I arrived on a nice sunny Saturday afternoon. High Scores Arcade is located in a nice area off Alvarado street in downtown Monterey. Parking is free and accessible along the streets and the nearby parking lots. The arcade games collection are classic, vintage, and from the 80's-90's. The space is on the smaller side but has just enough video games to look reputable. The decor is vibrant, bright, and playful. In the front is the counter where you purchase your admission, snacks, and alcohol/non alcoholic drinks. The admission is fairly priced. 1 hour of unlimited play is $10.00. All day unlimited play is $22.00. Overall we enjoyed our experience at High Scores Arcade. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The vibe was nostalgic and bustling. It was nice to introduce the games I use to play back in the day and play along side with my son. We hope to be back when we are in the area.

My sister's hair was right above her waist and they denied her the ability to ride the go-carts. She had even arrived to Funworks with her hair in a bun. They made her remove it so check the length. Which like I mentioned before wasn't below her waist This policy seems highly unfair and very discriminating. And to make matters worse, the go-carts are prob the slowest go-carts in the nation. All the fuss about their strict policy to then be disappointed with the 2 mph go-carts. Save yourself the headache, embarrassment (if you have long hair), and money. Go to Boomers instead!

The weight of the plushies definitely plays a role, so some machines require a bit of strategy and patience. The staff were very friendly and even added more plushies to the machines to help make it easier for the kids to win, which we really appreciated. The space was clean and welcoming. $20 for 23 tokens is a solid deal, and we ended up spending almost 40 minutes inside having a great time. There was plenty of free parking right out front. The front is liked with live plants that mesmerized my mom. She loves plants. Soon as you walk inside you enter a framing shop. This is in the back rooms of a framing shop. It all started with the owner and his love of pinball machines and his love of sharing his hobby with others. And we are so thankful that he has shared. What a fun time and bring lots of quarters if you have them. We should have brought more from our coin jar. My dad had them all pulled out, then mom said we didn't need that many, we really needed that many. They also have a change machine. If you put $20 in you get $20 of quarters. It doesn't give change back if you only want a portions of quarters. We only spent around an hour there, but I could have stayed longer. I was having so much fun, but we ran out of quarters. Too bad, there were so many games to play. The front room were the oldest games and gave you the most plays for your 50 cents. I believe all those games gave you 5 balls.
