I don't recommend Dr. Edwin Lee. This doctor didn't help me at all. I went to him for 6 months with vocal cord paralysis. He said he didn't know the cause and it should go away on its own, they only charged for endoscopy. Only his assistants examined me. He was rude and I felt like he didn't care. At the first appointment he said they could do different procedures, but he didn't do anything. And when after 6 months I asked if I should do some exercises, he said "yes, we can prescribe them" without offering them at the beginning. And I'm still suffering with my problem. I don't recommend this doctor. read more

If I could give no stars I would. False advertising about cancellations. Emails and Vm saying you can cancel within 24 hrs but then I get told I will be charged $50 if I don't cancel within 10 days. Also horrible experience with Dr leaving after I am about to pass out from a procedure. He fanned me a few seconds and then left the room with the nurse. No one checked on me or said can you drive. Been dealing with constant ear infection on and off for last couple of years. Doctor's do not believe me when I tell them my symptoms. They do not want to pursue any kind of care regarding my issue with my ears as a 23 year old female. Place makes me feel very unseen and unheard regarding my medical issues. Doctor Kennedy did run some tests but however he always said they came back normal regardless of the results. I tested positive for all outdoor allergies and proceed to tell me that allergy shots would not benefit me. This is after the allergist said I would be a great candidate for them. This most recent visit, I was diagnosed with an ear infection from the INOVA urgent care and then came to Reston ent. Doctor Kennedy stated that my ears looked good, regardless of having ear pain, headaches, sinus pain, and head fog. He advised me not to take the antibiotics prescribed to me by INOVA. This is considered to me medical malpractice. Not willing to help or even provide any explanation to anything. Waste of time and waste of emotional/mental health along with physical health. read more

Most of the doctors are unfriendly here. I've seen them for years and unfortunately, this seems to have always been the case. I won't name names. But they all are just kind of ho-hum in terms of personality. Not very warm. I have always felt like the doctors want to end the appointment (no matter what it's for) as quickly as possible. And the doctors' demeanor is kind of "fake friendly," dry, and flat at times. Maybe that's because they are more science oriented, but a little bit of bedside manner goes a long way with some patients, and they just don't seem oriented to provide that. The doctors will answer your questions, but kind of hesitantly. My impression anytime I ask questions is they have better things to do with their time. Another example: I called my doctor in this practice to ask a question unrelated to my allergy shots, and he gave me an answer but didn't say, "By the way, how are your shots going? Hope they are going well." He sounded bored, answered two of my questions, and then ended the call. The nurses and front desk staff are nice, and the allergy shots Reston ENT gives me are effective! That's the only reason I go -- because the shot process is efficient. But don't expect a lot of warmth and enthusiasm from the doctors. read more

My parent's appointment was with Dr. Huang and the practice changed it to Dr. Kennedy without informing us. Dr. Kennedy didn't even introduce himself or even went over the concerns why we were there? He literally spent 5 minutes and said all is fine. Expected more in thorough examination and some diagnosis of the problem from a "specialist". They allocate 30-45 minutes for a new patient and bill accordingly. My PCP does a much better job examining. It was a complete waste of time and $. Additionally, this practice takes 4-6 weeks to process a refund in a form of check! Everything in the office is electronic with ipads and what not, but when it comes to a refund, they have a pretty lame way of doing it. read more

My husband and I have been to Reston Ear Nose and Throat twice in the past few weeks.  We are elderly, and after more than 40 years of marriage we seem to be losing our hearing at an almost identical rate.  (He says "cicadas," and I hear "potatoes," thinking it's part of a lunch request.) It was easy to get an appointment, the two receptionists were friendly, professional, and efficient, and we did not have to wait despite there being quite a few people in the waiting room.  The practice is well organized and still COVID-careful.  We saw two lovely nurses/assistants followed by Drs. Moldenhauer and Hwang, and had extensive hearing tests.  We both left feeling as though we had chosen an excellent practice.  We will soon return to pick up and learn how to use our new hearing aids.  Our neighbors will be so happy when we are able to turn down our television. read more

Dr. William Kennedy. Referral originated by my Primary Care Physician. Venue was the Reston ENT office at Fair Oaks. Referral purpose was to be evaluated for the possibility of a "certain condition". Medical examination revealed I did not have the "certain condition". Great. Was this the end of the story? No - it was not. The examination revealed other conditions that needed to be addressed through treatment: including surgery. Dr. Kennedy is a remarkably talented physician and surgeon. Because of his skills - Short term: healed much faster and much less agonizing than expected. Long term: I am much healthier because of the treatment, which I restate, was not anticipated at referral. Willing to hear and discuss patient concerns. He addressed every issue with candor and clarity. Most appreciated is he briefed my wife after surgery, and provided important information I would not have been able to comprehend or remember. Reston ENT is a well-run clinic. The administration went smoothly. Intake: requirements and scheduling for pre-op, surgery, and post-op clearly stated in a pdf. Clear instructions for pre-op and post-op recovery. Web-portal access is excellent for completion of medical history and access to the ENT physician reports (downloadable). Likewise all aspects at the surgery venue in McLean went smoothly. read more

I have gone a few times, both with the same results. The doctor listened to what I had to say, but if I misspoke about my symptoms and they didn't line up with the doctors, I was incorrect and fabricating my symptoms. I did not appreciate the talk down she gave me and the excessive answer to a simple question. She also had me leaving the office crying because of her talking over me. I will not be going back again any time soon. I also had to fill out a survey ahead of time, that when I mentioned that I had selected a symptom on that survey, the doctor seemed surprised and used that symptom as validation for what I have been feeling, but I told her that is not how it feels and didn't listen to what I had to say. read more

I was patient with Dr.Hwang until he rejected my prescription renewal with only a few days for medication left. When I called the front office they informed me that I should be responsible for my health and call in for an appointment. My other doctors pro-actively call me if they need me to come in, due to a pending prescription renewal or they renew the medication but make sure I have an office visit scheduled. I complained about this but they lack customer service to address this situation. read more

Experienced ENT Doctor that you can TRUST. Go visit Dr. Daniel Hwang and find out why he is a Washingtonian's 2020 Top Doctor Award Recipient. What did Dr. Hwang do for me? - I have been unable to breath through both nostrils for the last 10+ years. So I went for an exam and it was determined that I needed to get a Sinuplasty and Turbinate procedure done. Why 5 stars? 1. Dr. Hwang - the most important criteria for any medical care is the doctor. Dr. Hwang is long-tenured ENT in our area and has seen ALL kinds of issues, which means your issue is highly likely something he has treated before. I know others may not concern themselves with this point, but Dr. Hwang is absolutely a genuine, sincere INDIVIDUAL, who happens to provide you with medical care. At the end of the day, it is great to have TRUST in your doctor. 2. Reston ENT Staff - They are fantastic! I have been there on several occasions and you can tell they are a great team. I always take any negative reviews on Staff with a MOUNTAIN of salt...the truth is you go and find out for yourself. If you have to get surgery done, then you will have the pleasure of meeting Renee...who is outstanding. Very detailed and thorough and addressed all of my questions leading up to my surgery at Fair Oaks. 3. COVID-19 Protocols - the office in Reston was thoughtfully laid out providing 6 feet of distance between guests. They also ensure that you text before entering the building so that they can manage the number of individuals in the waiting room. As you can tell, I am not one to write reviews often, unless compelled to do so. Like any reviews take them all in and consider not everyone's experience will be the same, but if you are looking for a really Trustworthy, Experienced Doctor, then you need to see Dr. Hwang. read more

Terrible experience at their Fair Oaks office just now. I won't mention the doctor but saw her today due to an incident involving difficult in equalizing while diving two weekends ago. I wasn't asked about pain and from her facial expression and responses I don't think she knew much if anything about what I was experiencing. I kept talking about my symptoms and getting generic responses. When I was asked about breathing through my nose I said yes I had had issues for years since falling into a brick wall as a child and no mention of checking for a deviated septum but said it could be allergies and left it at that. I kept repeating that none of this happened prior to the dive and that I'd even coughed up some blood after surfacing. None of it seemed to register. She checked my ears with I believe and otoscope but it had no cover and I can only assume had been sanitized after the last person who had it in their ear. And (while I understand this because it was about a child and a relative) she received a call notification and if the earlier part of the session wasn't bad enough I felt even more rushed after that. She told me nothing more than the general practitioner I saw the day after the incident and the medics with DAN (Diver's Alert Network) but did suggest a hearing test after I said it felt muffled at times (not always). DAN who have experience specifically with diving suggested it was a rather common middle ear barotrauma and I mentioned that but she just said she hadn't seen anything. I suppose the test is just yet another way to make money for the practice. When I called the main number to try to speak to someone, apparently their office manager was out as well and I was told they'd be in touch though the gentleman I spoke to was professional and tried to help. Based on this one experience though I would NOT recommend this practice to anyone, especially diving or pressure related. It was a completely unacceptable appointment! read more

When I made a follow-up appointment to see Dr Kim I was not informed that she no longer accepted Medicare and Anthem for billing my visit - I received an email confirming my appointment and to go into the Portal to update it - upon doing that I saw that my insurance information stated "INACTIVE" - I immediately called your office and was informed that this was the new policy I asked how much the cost would be and was told that it depended on what procedures would be performed - since I am now retired on a fixed income I had no other choice but to cancel the appointment read more

I usually have a phobia where docs treat me like a slaughterhouse animal. I'm just a number. In and out. So of course my first visit I try and run my whole life in 2mins since this was the first time I came in. Dr Lee listened, provided guidance and when I asked if I would be a candidate for in-office surgery he sent me to get an CAT scan and then I booked a visit the next day to go over results (I was able to get my CAT scan on the same day as ordered. Kaiser-like luck!). I went over the images still thinking I'd be brushed away. Studied videos and blogs so that when we went over the results I had my ammo of knowledge prepared! That wasn't ammo, it was conversation! I was able to dialog with Dr. Lee and he was able to explain what he agreed with me and what where he disagreed which was great. He also told me I was born without front lopals which was why I couldn't find that on my scan. The next day visit dismissed my worries about being a number. When he took a scope behind my throat he had a video device and allowed me to record my larynx and see what GERD was doing to it. I was amazed. So he is now my ENT. Angela his assistant is also terrific. I've had so many DRs that just felt like I was another patient in between their M-F work life. And so many DRs with outdated equipment. I loved the video device. I have a video of my throat! How cool. So yes highly recommended. He's now my ENT. I don't mind the drive at all :) Regarding the other reviews, I normally take caution when I see folks with a high amount of reviews but did not see an elite review. I myself am not at an elite status either. So read all reviews with caution. My decision to give Dr. Lee a go was by the Washingtonian magazine award and Google reviews. I was debating on 4/5 stars. If I went to 4 stars it would be over the pricing. But I went with 5 stars because there are a lot of people in that office, the office has always been clean when I get there and the office is located by Reston Hospital near Reston Town Center, which can't be cheap. So with the building overhead, paying himself and staff I felt compelled to leave 5 stars. I like having the right amount of people in the office and new medical equipment. I don't mind paying for that premium. read more

I booked an appointment online using their automated system. It offered me several options within 3 business days and I selected one and uploaded my information. Shortly thereafter I received an email confirmation of the scheduled appointment. Within 2 hours the office called me to inform that my selected appointment was "no longer available." They said the next available appointment is in 45 days. I just laughed at the receptionist on the phone and declined to be rescheduled. She offered no explanation or apology. If I could give a negative star review I would definitely would. I got to say the experience I received was poor and the advice Dr. Lee provided me was pathetic. I went in for hearing loss that unfortunately I've had for years and hoped for a solution. After getting a hearing test done and nothing abnormal was shown. I'd asked Dr. Lee what i can do to improve my hearing or what can be done? Dr. Lee literally said I can use my hand and cup it behind my ear to improve me hearing I stared at him thinking it was a joke but he was being serious. I wasted my time and money for a doctor to tell me to cup my ears to hear better. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time here. read more

I arrived for a normal office visit to have my ears checked. I was advised that a normal office is $3,000 and my deductable would be $130. This is for a normal office visit. I had to cancel and seek a practice that is not so exorbitantly expensive. The doctor may be good but not worth that price. read more

Medical stuff is very friendly and competent. The incompetency starts when you begin dealing with the front office. My copay is $40 but they keep insisting on charging me $88. I was in a lot of pain so I had no choice. But after multiple conversation and attempts of explaining them the situation I gave up and moved to a different clinic. I saw Dr. Lee the first time over 10 years ago when I worked for another practice and performed surgery on my left maxillary sinus. So when started having issues with my right maxillary sinus, I immediately thought to see Dr. Lee. Boy what a difference a few years made now that he was in private practice. His demeanor changed for the worse in my Humble opinion. He prescribed an antibiotic ointment to be inserted in my nasal passage. After the reading up on the prescription ointment, there's a warning from the manufacture not use their product in the nasal passage. When I called to express concerns about the product, Dr. Lee was extremely annoyed and quite rude . So much so he questioned why I would even inquire about the prescription. He felt as patient I should simply trust him and consume whatever he prescribed eventhough I had concerns. Most of all, he performed two procedures and none of them worked. The first was the ballon sinuplasity. I went from having server post nasal drip to post nasal drip and periodic nose bleeds. My symptoms had worsen. After several months of follow up doctors visit and exams, dr. Lee finally decided that I needed surgery on the right maxillary sinus. Needless to say, that surgery caused more problems. My nose bleeds continued for months. It's been nearly year since my first visit with dr. Lee and nose bleeds are less frequent but my sinus issues on my right side is still haunting me with no relief. I decided not to return back to see Dr. Lee because I personally feel like he wasn't really attentive to my needs and he did horrible job fixing my sinus issues. I don't think that my condition has worsen but there's certainly no improvement. read more

I called to make an appointment because I had this ear infection for 2 months now. On the phone the lady tells me they accept my type of insurance and took down all my information. They also weren't open in the nearest location so I had to drive 12 miles in the pouring rain at 7:30 in the morning. When I arrive they straight up tell me we don't accept your insurance. Like what? People were nice and all but my overall experience wasn't pleasant. The women that I talked to over the phone told me in person "oh you're suppose to tell us what type of insurance" read more

It's all about the money with this place. I opted not to perform surgery with Reston ENT because of bad service from the nurse/receptionist. The only thing they were concerned about was to get paid. She was rude, impolite, did not answer my questions about the surgery and was in a rush. I have seen other complaints of racist behavior by the staff here and I think this was also the case with me. I will not recommend this place unless you are white american. They will treat you better if you are white. read more

I was a new patient as well as new to the area. Unfortunately I had gone into the wrong building for my appt. I called the office to let them know I was running late as well as asking for directions. At the time of the call I was 8 minutes late. When I finally made it to the office 10 minutes later I was disturbed to find the receptionist wearing slippers instead of proper shoes for a Dr.'s office! Upon checking me in I had informed her I had just called to let them know I was running late. She asked who I spoke to. I told her I didn't think it was necessary to ask. (There is only 2 receptionists) She proceeded to do what I thought was a lot of typing and the walked away from the desk without saying anything to me. When she returned she informed me I couldn't be seen because I was late. I told her I had called and should've been informed that when I called. She then again inquired who I had spoke to and what time I had called. I told her that I needed to be seen. And she turned and walked away without a word to me again. I finally called out to the office manager who was sitting in her office. I told her I had called about being late and lost. She responded with - "yes we goggled to see if you had in fact called" and she told me the time of the call. Excuse me?I didn't think I would have to prove to them I called! I told her I was offended at the lack of professionalism by her staff. Dr.Lee was unconcerned about the dress and conduct of his staff. As I expressed to him, his staff is a reflection on him and his practice. He had no response. The nurse in the exam room told me that she was constantly hearing complaints from patients and didn't deal with the front office on purpose. I was extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism. And I will be finding another ENT. Dr. Lee failed to live up to what I would expect from a Dr.'s office. read more

I had sinus surgery by Dr. Daniel Hwang last week and was amazed at how right after the surgery I had no pain. I was in for my followup checkup today and teased that I thought he'd forgotten to do the surgery because there was no pain. He's got a wonderful bedside manner and truly cares for his patients. I also had a wonderful experience with the nurses at his office--Abby helped calm my nerves and got everything set up for me before the procedure. I'd highly recommend this practice because I've had other friends who've had surgery and they were in intense pain for a week. read more

Now I did not want to go the the ENT after I went to the ER and got a diagnosis but the ER told me to follow up with the ENT twice since I went to the ER twice in one weekend over the same illness, so I did. I knew this may have not given me more answers but to know this was a complete waste of my time, energy, and money was a complete understatement. First they asked me to be at my appointment a half an hour before my appointment time, which I kindly obliged, I had paperwork to fill out, it's courtesy. But you should also receive the same courtesy. Not only did I not get into my appointment at my appointment time, I didn't get to my appointment until 35 minutes after. So I got to the office at 1055am, my appointment was 1130am, and I didn't see a doctor until 1205am. When I asked the technician about this and said I am more than willing to be courteous but a courtesy needs to be met with courtesy at least she was nice an understanding but when the doctor finally came in, talk about the worst bed side manner. He had the attitude of, well I'm the doctor and he said to me "I am here now, what can I do for you!" I was like what the hek?! I was stopped in my tracks but didn't feel like fighting it as I was still super sick and wanted to get over with the appointment. After two minutes of checking me, he tells me what the ER already told me and what I already knew and then I was done. I wasted not only my hour and fifteen minutes, but my fifteen minutes drive, my gas money, my 50 dollar copay, my energy I could have used to be lying down, my time from my job, and now my dignity. What a waste of time and energy this place was. If it wasn't for the nice receptionist and the tech, I would have walked out the first 45 minutes I was in there. The doctor does not have a good bed side manner, I should know, I have seen a million of them and they do not seem to have their patient timing in check and make you feel stupid about it. And if the doctor doesn't want to show interest in you then that's fine, just say so, walk in saying, "The ER found this, why are you here". Don't make the patient feel stupid for following protocol. Cause like I said, I did not want to be there in the first place. Their saving grace is reception and tech staff. Otherwise they would have zero saving grace. read more

Unbelievable......receptionist RUDE....I called to make an appt and got an attitude when I was trying to guage how much the visit would cost. I asked for a BALLPARK and she REFUSED to give me any clue as to how much it would cost to go in get my year checked as I have chronic tinnitus and get an ear test...NO CLUE? HOW CAN I GET NO CLUE OF A BALLPARK BEING ASKED TO PAY CASH UPFRONT? Not everyone is holding their cash in the bank right now which requires planning. I also was very specific that I wanted to see 1 of the 2 MALE doctors there for her to give me availability for a woman. In addition, on top of the inability to give me a CLUE of how much money I would need to move for a cushion for this appt., she told me that they would most likely OVERCHARGE me for the visit to then REFUND me any overage once they heard back from my insurance company was very clear i have not et my deductible and I'd have to pay full price cash for the visit. What reputable Dr. office won't BILL YOU if they can't provide their fees much less overcharges you to give THEM a cushion then you get to WAIT for a refund? Unbelievable. I hung up. I learned that this place is a specialist when i was paying for my deductible (you usually pay more for specialist) and the doctor i saw didnt find out what is wrong with my ear and prescribed a very very expensive antibiotic. I called 20 min prior to my appointment to let them know traffic was horrible. I called again 10 min PRIOR appointment time to let them know I would be there shortly. Only to be told I was late and I would have to reschedule and a $35.00'charge would apply. By the time the little girl at the front desk was done I was in the parking lot.
