My friend from Portugal said "you'll walk right by this place without even noticing it" and it's a really accurate description. I was probably the only non-Portuguese eating here for lunch, it felt like a small local kitchen with the kind of food you would eat at home. Much recommended if you want to try something less costly than the popular places but is still uniquely Portugal.
Arroz de marisco: A Portuguese seafood broth with rice, I was told to not call it a Paella because it's insulting. It's a Portuguese invention with the big difference being the rice is pre-cooked and added after so the broth is less thick and less soaked with starch making it taste a bit "cleaner". My favorite here and very delicious.
Alheira: "Jewish Sausages". An interesting local creation by the Jewish community when it was illegal to be Jewish. There were fears their religion would be revealed if their households weren't hanging pork sausages to cure outside so they invented this imposter with non-pork proteins and bread. This one had bread and chicken and had an interesting soft texture I haven't had before with sausage.
Arroz con Bacalao: Salted Cod Rice, by this time I had plenty of salted Cod. I liked it but just a couple bites were enough. read more
