On the way to the fresh seafood market in Ensenada I passed by a family owned business that had some nice people working. They asked if we wanted to have lunch, but we wanted to get some fresh fish before it sold out. I paid little attention to their offer to cook my fish for me at that moment, however when we found some live lobsters I thought that it would be great to enjoy a margarita while they did the cooking.
We arrived with the lobsters and discussed preparation with the chef. She was eager to please and offered to serve to serve it with beans, rice, salad, bread and french fries, a Mexican feast! While I was discussing the order a huge party coming from one of the cruise ships sat down slamming the restaurant. Every staff member worked very hard to take their orders before coming for my drink order.
I finally got a margarita what was about a 2 out of 5. The tequila was barely noticeable and they used some mixer that I did not enjoy. I sipped it anyways as the understaffed kitchen brought out about 20 plates to the cruise ship group. My meal, some sort of Lobster Thermidor type stuffed lobster, takes a lot of work and time to prepare. Of course they made all of the other food last and our wait was extraordinary. I would have walked out if my birds were not in the kitchen. After the hour plus wait they brought out our meals. The rich preparation lobster had great flavor due to a heavy dose of cream and some fresh vegetables in the sauce. It could have used another 5 minutes in their "Mexican" broiler as the cheese was not melty enough. It was pretty obvious that they plated the beans and rice really early as they arrived cold.
I did not mention the forgotten bread and french fries and was happy to be eating by then.
When the bill arrived there were 2 plates on my ticket that were consumed by the cruise ship passengers who shared out table but were long gone. The chef/owner graciously removed them from our tab along with those watery margaritas.
In the end this is is a restaurant that I would return to, with owners that are eager to please their guests. I caution you to look out for cruise ships and make sure that you do not get behind a large pack of tourists. read more
