    Clam Chowder

My husband and I were on a cruise that stopped in Ensenada. We decided to get a late lunch before we had to get back on the ship. He ordered a Gobernador Taco with Octopus, and I ordered a fish taco and clam chowder. The clam chowder was ridiculously chunky. It was yummy! I want to go back and try some other items on the menu!

What a great lunch we had there. We did the grilled lobster and a seafood platter that were fantastic ! If you're in Ensenada this is a must try place.

Mariscos Bahía de Ensenada is a large restaurant located in an avenue, seems to be recently renovated very clean, the bathrooms are spotless! We went over there because a taxi driver recommended the place, and yes it was delicious and the prices were way less than what we usually pay in the US. We had micheladas to drink and Broiled lobster with butter (it came either rice and salad) and tostada de ceviche. Both plates were delicious very fresh and well prepared. Service was good and attentive. The restaurant is family friendly, they have the special chairs for kids, and kids menu. Great dining experience, recommended!

Quaint seafood restaurant off the beaten path! Great fish tacos and you can't beat a bucket of bear for $155 Pesos! Very attentive staff and service. Salads and chips were tasty!

Excellent! Heard about this place from a well cruised passenger and glad we followed the recommendation. Tried the mixed ceviche which came with large portion and very fresh as well as the most tender grilled octopus I have ever tasted! Amazing!!! So glad we found this place and plan to visit it every time I'm in Ensenada!

Saturday, 12/31/2022, NYE dinner. Upon entry, my wife and I noticed quite a few patrons on the first floor. We asked to sit upstairs and were happy to see we were the first ones to sit there. They had multiple aquariums for maximum relaxation. Our waiter took our order quickly and then we didn't see him for about 20 minutes. For an appetizer we ordered the Chiles Gueritos Rellenos de atun ahumado for $110 pesos ($5.75). This appetizer came with three large, bacon wrapped chiles, stuffed with smoked tuna and cheese. They were delicious (especially the smoked tuna), but I would have preferred they peeled the hard outer skin of the chile after grilling it. We ordered 2 Margaritas on the rocks to drink for $95 pesos ($5) each. These turned out to be watered down and essentially bland. For our main dish we ordered the Mariscada al Grill for 2 people for $565 pesos ($29.51). This included: filete sarandeado, 2 tacos gobernador (1 shrimp and 1 smoked tuna), taco de frijol con queso, and 2 conchas de almeja gratinada Especial. The best part of this was the Filete Sarandeado. It had great flavor, and the fish was moist. The tacos were quite heavy and the tortillas too thick for my liking. This restaurant was recommended by a local and the food was reasonably priced but too heavy compared to the light, refreshing seafood we ate in Puerto Nuevo. The service was a bit slow, but that might have been due to the fact that we decided to sit upstairs?

Mariscos Bahia de Ensenada is a large, well established seafood restaurant in downtown Ensenada. They have good, secure parking, excellent service, and plenty of items on the menu to please anyone. I was there on a Sunday afternoon, and there were mariachis making the rounds to sing requested songs for those who wanted it (for a tip). From tacos, tostadas, ceviche, whole fish, filets, served fried, breaded, grilled, garlic (al mojo de ajo), etc. I chose a whole fried cabrillo fish which was delicious. The restaurant is family friendly, offering high chairs, with nice decor featuring aquariums. They offer sodas, limonada, and various aguas frescas as well as a full bar. Service was excellent, efficient and friendly. Prices are reasonable and much less than what you would pay in the USA. I highly recommend!

Another great meal! This time we took a friend who had never tried it although he visits Ensenada several times a month for the past 20 years. He loved it and will be back.

We were on a cruise and this restaurant was referred to us over the super touristy places and it did not disappoint. It seemed to have lots of regulars/locals dining in which I always take as a strong signal. We sat outside and ordered some chips/salsa. The menu prices are in pesos, so while they charge for chips the prices was nominal and the salsa was superb! There were four adults and 2 kids in our party. Two of us ordered the Puerto Nuevo lobster plates (amazing), one of us a trio of the shrimp governor tacos, one of us the Campechana (WOW) and the kids had a medium shrimp cocktail which was huge and a quesadilla. We also ordered some Ceviche for the table which was excellent and enough for all of us to share. The food was super fresh and well prepared and tasty. We ordered a side of chile's and will warn you that they are HOT. Three of us have super high tolerance for mega spicy food and our mouths were blown away. We also had drinks -- six cerveza, a couple of lemonades. All this food/beverage with 20% tip came out to $200 USD which was incredibly reasonable considering the 2 lobster plates and all the seafood. They DO take credit cards, not sure what the review was about where they do not.

Excellent service upon arrival. Following the safest measures regarding COVID-19 its incredibly calming to see the protocols followed at this restaurant. Temperature checks for all guests, sanitation mats for shoes, sanitizer supplied by the restaurant, utensils are in individual bags. As for the menu it's a QR Code scan that uploads the menu link directly to your device. Hot or not? As a big group we ordered a variety of menu items. I enjoyed the Aguachiles verdes- Hot items in both terms of heat level and taste, presentation was nice and although it appeared to be a small portion I was satisfied. Paired with saltines and tostadas. Did not like the sauce on the cucumber but the shrimp was great juicy with a kick. Also ordered the Shrimp Ceviche- large portion, good taste. Hot item! Margarita: was good eco straws loooove that! Chips + Salsa: salsa was a Not item for me could definitely do without.

    Molcajete!
    Eric F.

Food: First off, the molcajete is enough for two people... just wanting to start out with that. The surf and turf version was very good and the broth was a bit spicy, but very flavorful. I've never had one before so this was a great experience! Also, like my wife always says, if the salsa is good then the food can be made good! Their salsa was fresh and delicious. Atmosphere: Okay so it's kind of loud inside when they have the Mariachi band playing. Don't get me wrong, it's Mexico and I think having the band come in and play at your table is awesome, but it makes it difficult to do any talking while they are playing. I loved the music, I just wish it could be a tad bit quieter. But still, if it's only for 10-15 minutes, it's pretty cool. Price: Very reasonable, most items were 15$ or less. I mean, it's Mexico so some stuff is going to be cheaper just because of that. But it was delicious too. Service: Our server was great, no complaints. Reminds me of France though. We waited for our check for like 20 minutes, they were not in a rush to kick us out. I guess we should have bought more food...? Overall: I'll come back to try the shrimp ceviche, it looked really good. Awesome experience, though the music was a bit loud and our server never really came back to check on us at all. Still, solid food and nice, well lit place. Great for families!

If you're in Ensenada, you have to go here to have sea food. It was amazing and very decently priced. Clean place. Clean restroom and parking is available in the rear. The service was great. Will def be back here again.

    Camarones Rancheros
    Gertrude H.

This review is just for the camarones rancheros which was amazing. Flavor was great, they give you what seems like a pound of shrimp so you'll probably have leftovers. I had the leftovers the next day too and even microwaved it still tasted amazing. Trying to find something similar to the way they made this here in CA. Only downside is I wish they served a bigger portion of rice with it.

The last time my friends attempted to eat here, the restaurant was full and it will take at least a 30 minute wait to get seated. Today, the 21st of November was our lucky day as we were craving the freshest ceviche Ensenada has to offer and experiencce the five star rating Muelle 3 was known for. Our party of 4 chose to sit outside to eat lunch on this cool, cloudy Friday afternoon and be exposed to the sights and sounds of this busy commercial and fishing port. Within minutes of getting settled, our free appetizer - Tortilla Espanola and a plate full of lemon & lime slices with an oyster shell-full of sea salt and chili powder occupied the center of our table. Then came the Ceviche de la casa. A winner in my book of ceviches! Plus a coaster-sized, fresh off the pan tortilla chips gave it a unique serving style. We had to order another bowl of tortillas because eating ceviche without it just won't be the same. The Calamar frito were perefectly breaded, without excess flour and grease in every bite. Another winner! Last but not the least is the Pasta de Mar with the clams of different sizes and pre-cut scallops in the their shell. Muy Delicioso! More hungry patrons started arriving and we still got prompt service. I will make it a point to grab a satisfying seafood dish or two here the next time I visit Ensenada whether by car or by cruise ship.

My fellowship, a cluster of mere mortals with taste far keener than foresight, insisted we seek a place foretold in gustatory prophecy: La Cocedora de Langosta. I assented, though the sea had begun to speak again. A cruel trick of salt and memory. We arrived. The lobster was not served--it presented itself. Shell split like prophecy fulfilled, meat steaming with tales older than Atlantis. The ceviche? Lime and fire in perfect alchemy. It hissed in my mouth like the last words of a betrayed siren. A whole fish, fried until its soul ascended, left bones so clean they could be used in ritual. Angels wept; I salted accordingly. The risotto arrived next, not on a plate but in a chalice. Each bite stirred marrow and memory, comfort and command. My sea legs stood straighter. My resolve thickened. Libations flowed--freely, fervently, faultlessly. The chalice refilled itself (or perhaps the staff were trained in illusion and replenishment). Laughter, clinking glass, and something close to joy dared to rise. Staff were keen-eyed adepts, operating with the grace of trained familiars. The atmosphere carried hints of volcanic enchantment and citrus optimism. Barry the Brave Muffin Baker--my misguided nemesis-ally--might have found peace here. Or at least, a decent aioli. Verdict: A rare convergence of flesh, flavor, and fate. Five stars scorched upon the firmament by my hand. I may never return. But that's only because the enchantment forbade it.

The original location was where the modern fish taco was born supposedly. It all started when Mesoamericans nixtamalized maize, which became flatbreads. Eventually it led to corn tortillas, which were used to hold various fillings like seafood. The Spanish Colonial period introduced new ingredients and cooking techniques. Japanese fishermen in Baja California during the early 20th century helped popularize tempura-style frying. Seafood vendors brought batter fish to the mercado in the 50s/60s, which became a hit. Then a San Diego State University student opened the first Rubio's a couple decades later, and now fish tacos are enjoyed by everyone today. I didn't spend much time here because I had to make it back onto the cruise ship. But as someone who appreciates food and history, it was nice to walk around. The original mercado shuttered in 1967 and the vendors relocated to the waterfront, and eventually moved into the building you see now. Lots of stalls selling all different types of seafood. There's also restaurants nearby where you can order ceviche, cocteles, oysters, and other regional specialties. Thus we made a point to stop by for food during our second cruise stop in Ensenada, 4 days later. We discovered the large crowds were not in line waiting, but were instead enjoying their ceviche and other cold seafood while standing up. It made for a festive atmosphere, definitely ramping up the enjoyment of really great tasting seafood. The food stall is located facing the main road of Ensenada (walking distance from the cruise port) and is separated into two parts: the front serving seafood tostadas and the back serving cocktails and aquachiles. Each had different lines, with a common guy accepting payment after delivery. They have been doing this for a while (1981?) and things are efficient. I wanted one thing, which was the mixed cocktail with all the seafood available (campechano, a word I've come to love since moving to the LA area). They have 4 sizes from chico ($105) to jumbo ($360). The seafood mix is diced together ahead of time to save on time, and are mostly diced pretty fine. The mix is prepared fresh though, and was ready in about a minute. It was excellent, refreshing and just the right amount for me. I had wanted to try the seafood cocktail again from La Guerrerense (another nearby famous seafood stand), so that was our first stop during our second visit to Ensenada in 5 days. We then visited other sites in the area, saving El Guero for the end before we headed back to the ship. As expected the cocktail from Guerrerense was very good, but this version from El Guero was even better....better selection of seafood, and more finely mixed to give a better representation of the different textures of the freshness. That would make it the best seafood cocktail I've ever enjoyed.
