Finally gave into a tourist favorite and now I know why I always skipped it. Loud music, watered down drinks, and mid food. Due to the party vibe, you have to flag down a waiter. They're are two guys that go into the crowd, take people on stage, pour shots in their mouths, then flip them upside down. Entertaining to watch because of course they go for the largest people, mainly women. The shrimp tacos were not good to me. I left them on the table. The waiter told us how much our total was and added the tip himself. No bill. I don't like janky practices. I suggest you bring cash here. Our server Anna was very good, but we were directed here because we wanted to watch the Chicago Cubs game and they couldn't get it. They did try, but alas, we ended up watching the Dodgers v Cards game. We ordered some margaritas and got some chips and guac. However, while we sat there we definitely got entertained... this was a definitely a party bar. Loud dance music, shots a plenty and a guy blowing a whistle putting 1800 down people's throats and then turning them upside down and shaking them. There are so many places to go around Ensenada but Papas & Beer is the quintessential party place around. I have been coming here for over 4 decades since I was... hmmm around 16. It has changed but still the great party place. Because of that, prices are a little higher than some of the other local places but still, if you want to be in a party atmosphere, you have to come here for a little while at least. Along with beers and a couple of mixed drinks [simple stuff like Bacardi and Coke] we also had a guacamole made at our table. It was pretty good. Service was awesome and the music is so much fun. This place is huge! I came when it was till retry early but I can imagine this place knows how to party. I see it online a lot and wanted to try at first I was confused if they were open they had lots of staff around but no one spoke. I sat at the bar with some friends we eventually moved to a table. We ordered some drinks and some fresh table side guacamole. It was super fresh seasoned and made well. As we were leaving we heard the whistles going the music increase and even some guy upside down taking shots and that was t 1030am. Wish I could see this place more lively but overall a good place to stop when in town for a drink and some fun. read more

Here on a cruise and we decided to pop in for fun,food, and drinks. We cruise frequently but we usually just pass by Papas. Last time that we dined here was around 28 years ago for our honeymoon. We came on a Tuesday around 1pm and it wasn't crowded. But it was wild inside as usual. The vibe and decor was amazing.Music,was blaring from the speakers and people were partying and having a great time. It was difficult to order food because of the loud music. The server could barely hear us. My husband ordered the carne asada burrito and lemonade. I had the guac bowl and a mango margarita. When my food arrive it was wrong and I figured it was due to the music. I am not a fan of sending back food but I wanted that guac with the tomatoes, onions, and all the fixings. In college this was the spot all the younger kids would go for cheap drinks and a fun time. "In my time" we went to Lake Havasu, so when I was down here for a wedding I was like why not, let's go hang with the drunk college kids for an hour. They had an all you can drink until 11pm for $5. When they handed us the plastic white cup, I was had like a wake up moment of "Oh were really with the college kiddies." They ran out of tequila for the margaritas, but I assume that it was just for the AYCD. I also learned that there are men that come around to pour shots in your mouth, shake you up, then flip you upside down and shake you up. This is a very popular tourist spot, but honestly, the food and drinks aren't the best it's more about the vibes than the quality. A lot of girls tend to get really drunk here, and I noticed that some of the workers take advantage of that and try to hook up with them. Please be very careful, because there aren't many laws or restrictions in Mexico, and some of these men act like they can do whatever they want to tourists. One man even took two girls to the back of the bar and then tried to touch me. I told him I was married and not to even think about it that's the only reason he backed off. Just a heads-up: this isn't a place I'd feel comfortable coming back to, especially if you plan on being under the influence and want to feel safe as a woman. read more

This place is a vibe for sure. I've heard of Papas & Beer from others who've visited Ensenada as a place where people pick you upside down and pour tequila in your mouth. That was the extent of my knowledge so I was in for a surprise. This place is located near the port terminal so people who go on cruises will stop by to spend the morning or afternoon. There are two floors and when we got here at 12:30pm it was completely packed. It was basically a day club for Americans partying in Ensenada. There were female workers in very little clothing walking around and patrons paid them to spin them around and pour alcohol in their mouth. And as advertised, there was a guy flipping people upside down. It was about $10 for this experience and we saw plenty of people giving them money. There was SO much whistling that I still have flashbacks when I hear whistling now. If you don't like loud noises you should avoid this place at all costs (among the other reasons). That doesn't prevent families from bringing their entire families though (including little kids and older folks). Long story short, this place is the definition of a tourist trap. However, if you want to watch a show and people-watch, this is a good place. read more

I had a great time, danced on stage with my girlfriend and friends and was able to meet new people. I even had a high speed chase on a four wheeler and some local guided me to a parking lot preventing me from ending up in a Mexican jail. When I say this is the place to be in Ensenada if you're looking to have a good time I mean it. A group of 8 of us were on a cruise and docked in Ensenada for the day and of course it being a kid free vaca we wanted a party. We got in around noon and the party was already hopping. I can't say much about the food since we didn't eat but all the servers are there to make sure you have a good time... they place great dance music as well. I will say the only downfall is it is a bit pricey, but understandable considering it is a tourist spot. We had so much fun and definitely would come back if ever in Ensenada again, I'd love to try some of their food and of course some more tequila! read more

Maybe I'm not very fun, but I found it to be grossly noisy, quite degrading to the women that were being flipped upside down, and I didn't like my food much at all. I ordered a margarita to start, which was...fine. But we're in MEXICO. I don't want a margarita that is just fine. I want a great margarita! While on a cruise, we visited Ensenada and this was the first place we landed. My daughter is a brand new adult, and wanted to celebrate her 18 year old drinking status in Mexico. They JUST opened, so it was completely empty. The servers were very attentive and kind. My daughter ordered a margarita, my other daughter and husband ordered a beer, and I ordered a michelada. We also ordered some guacamole for the table. The michelada was delicious, and my daughters enjoyed their drinks. Within about 10 minutes, people started filling up the space and getting fun and loud. You definitely go here for the experience. The scene is very fun and vibrant. They have all your favorites, including a pretty extensive margarita menu. I ended up ordering the Mango Margarita, which was both refreshing and delicious. Instead of shot girls, P&B has two men who go table to table serving tequila shots with a twist. Your purchase includes a shot and whole lot of manhandling. They throw you upside down and bounce you around for about two minutes. This bar about a 15 minutes from the Ensenada port and we'll worth the walk. This is apparently the spot to go to if you stop in Ensenada. As a heads up, it is a little bit of a walk and anything beyond that is considered actually dangerous. They aren't recommending anyone to go further. I understand why it's a popular spot, because the music is so loud that I almost went deaf. But if you're drunk, it's a good time. Beer is cheap, for American standards. And they also do this thing where they give you a tequila shot while lifting you upside down... Sometimes almost against your will. But people are good sports about it. I have to give the guy credit though, he was lean but muscular and he was flipping ladies that definitely weighed more than him upside down. I had a drink from the bar across the street and set my drink down to pick up my electric fan I dropped on the ground and the waiter comes by and throws my drink away. I complain and find the manager, (he was even WORSE), he reorders me a drink at the bar and I explained everything and at the end he says "I tell all my waiters to throw away drinks that aren't from papas & beer". Are the tacos delicious here? Absolutely! Is the location perfect? Yes it is right in the heart of downtown. Also is walkable from the cruise terminal. However the biggest downfall is that you will be approached by several people trying to sell you things from outside the restaurant. I enjoyed the food but I also couldn't enjoy my time there since I was approached by at least 15-20 people during a 30 minute meal. Honestly I don't think I'll return to this location. Yes it was great they accept credit cards but it was a tad annoying constantly having to say no to everyone approaching. Ensenada has other places with less intrusion from people. read more

Of course this is the quintessential place to take your 18-year old son. He had 3 tacos carne asada and I had the guacamole appetizer. They were fantastic. We had a shot of Patron Silver and a beer each-Tecate and their brand Papas and Beer...made by Tecate. Beer was okay but the waiters were fantastic. We, of course, watched girls on spring break get turned upside down and drink tequila...and a few guys...whistles blowing as one might expect. Always have to go here just to say you have been here. A must do in Ensenada! We came here on the Carnival cruise and a member of our party had this place on her list. We walked in and were promptly seated near a bachelorette party. We all ordered a margarita and some replaced the tequila with vodka. Once we found out about the poppers, our mom ordered us each one. In September 2019, my girls and I took at trip to Ensenada in which everyone raved about Papa's and Beer. I wanted to go to one of the best places in the world to eat which Anthony Bourdain raved about which was a one or two blocks away. However, the majority wanted Papa's and Beer which honestly coming out from the cruise ship to land. It was so over stimulating to me - loud music, a lot drinking and very crowded. I would have preferred something more quiet as it was just too much going on. Any who, I ordered my food and ate a little of it as I was not feeling well. I just wanted to go back to the ship and lay down. The staff was very nice and helpful and very patient. My nacho I ordered was not flavorful at all and very bland but this place appeared to be Americanized. They had bells ringing in which someone would be flipped over taking shots out of seductive areas of the body. They would come up and do it. Luckily it didn't happen to our group as I was not having it. Overall, at the time it was too much going on as I was suffering from land sickness. What a great experience! I went on a cruise for a bachelorette party and Ensenada was one of our stops. We spent the majority of our stop here and I wish we stayed longer! We had such a great experience all around. From the MANY shots to our great bartender CARLOS, we loved it all! The bathrooms are also clean as they have someone in there keeping it clean. They have a fun activity that you can participate in if you are brave enough (they poor a shot in your mouth and get shaken around and turned upside down)!
