This was hands down one of my favorite stops in Ensenada. Our Airbnb host recommended it, and this place did NOT let down. First things first - I would not consider this place a dive bar in the least. I personally wouldn't walk there from Ave Adolfo Lopez Mateos, but it's in a nice/stylish building with a security guard stationed in the parking lot. Our bartender was AWESOME. She was kind and patient with our broken Spanish, and switched to English when I gave her a deer-in-headlights look. She gave us a tasting wheel to help identify flavors in the Mezcal, which was immensely helpful. I've never had Mezcal before -- so even as someone who has a pretty decent beer and wine vocabulary, the wheel was super helpful in picking out descriptors for what we were smelling and tasting. When my boyfriend asked how Mezcal was made and how it differed from tequila, the bartender pulled out a book with photos that illustrated the process. We did two tastings; the first was three mezcals made from the same plant, differing only in region. It's amazing how the terrior made such a difference in the final product. Entrance can be a bit hard to find (included photo) - walk in the building with a rooftop bar, and the place is on the first floor to the right! read more
