O Haesanmul Jjim Seafood braised in a spicy sauce with bean sprouts
Ness S.

This restaurant is not closed as reported. It's taken over by new ownership. The food continues to be excellent. I like the seafood pancakes a lot the softshell crab was also very good although a little on the fried side. Their Galbi Jjim was excellent. The meat was fall off the bone tender. The Haesanmul Jjim was spicy but a reasonable level. The flavors were deep and delicious. It's been a while since we've been here. The ambiance under the new owner is completely different now. Looks new and vibrant. The owner was serving us and she was very friendly and talkative. Excellent all around. I'm looking forward to returning.

Such a cool little hidden gem!! Amazing Korean food and karaoke was so fun. Owner was so sweet, brought out some lovely complimentary tasting plates and beer.

Outside of the restaurant

Never got her name, but the owner was the sweetest person ever! Inside had a really comfortable setting vibes. Their foods are a HUGE portion AND very very delicious for the price . Definitely worth going to!

First timer at this well thought of Korean destination. It's "down the alley" in this strip center, with no street frontage presence. Take note. Some of their features: Open late, #1 karaoke bar, super helpful owner and staff, huge menu, great food. Owner was very helpful in the ordering process; and they force you to use a QR code to order. Everything we ordered was great, and the kimchi pie was unique. Beer and wine is self serve out of the coolers. We left before karaoke kicked in, but it was very crowded when we left at 830. We will be back!

Silla has you covered for alll your Korean food cravings- especially those late night ones since they are open until 1 AM! Late night food just hits different and this meal was absolutely hitting the spot. Soondae (Korean blood sausage) is one of my favorite things to eat and luckily I was able to get soondae stew at a local Korean restaurant. Although I'm not big on other pig intestines in my soup, owner encouraged us to get it and surprisingly it wasn't too bad. If you like chewy textures then I recommend giving the full experience a try! If you're less experimental with your food choices then you can't go wrong with the Korean fried chicken. It was crispy and coated with a savory, slightly sweet sauce. The fried soft shell crab was so good. It had tender and savory meat on the inside and the seasoning was amazing. I liked it even better than the fried chicken! The assortment of banchan (side dishes) were also great with a mix of savory favorites like marinated spicy squid, marinated fish cake, kimchi, and pickled veggies as well as sweet dishes like the sweet potatoes. The owner and worker were very friendly and service was quick since you order online and they bring the dishes to you.

This place has been around forever. It opens late for karaoke as well so it's great for people who want to hang out and drink with decent food. They also have weekday & Saturday specials. The ajumma who greeted us at the door and seated us was very friendly. Shout out to Susan! The gentleman who waited on us was friendly, but a little bit more reserved and we really didn't see much of him. I would say that the service was a little slow that day because we had to ask for rice twice, & there was a misunderstanding, whether or not they had purple rice...which they called brown rice? That was weird. I was also told to just go and get my own drinks from the coolers. They brought out our water in paper cups, which was also kind of weird. Their ordering system is from a tablet at your table. I like the efficiency of it, but it took a little bit of the personal touch out of my dining experience. I came with a few people who had never been to the restaurant and they had questions so it was harder to get them answered with the tablet ordering system. The food came out in a timely manner and everything was good. The bibimbop did not have the sizzling Crunchy rice at the bottom so I think the hot stone was not hot enough when it was brought out. That's the main reason you get bibimbop, so no bueno. The Bulgogi was also a smaller portion than it looks in the pictures. I probably wouldn't order those two things next time. I would say the Bonchon is on par with some of the other Korean places around town so nothing really special & tgey were a bit less generous in their portioning of them compared to similar places. Everything has always been consistent though and a true staple for Korean food. I also like supporting small OG spots like this especially when Korean barbecue all you can eat chains are taking over these days.

The restaurant is tucked back with a welcoming sign. The environment is very cozy, with decorations and nice lighting. The food is incredible and they have a vast menu for all your Korean favorites. Their side dishes are always fresh and in season. What truly makes this place special is the owner. She is so kind and loving. The food is great but I keep coming back for her!

I came here a couple of years ago and didn't have a fantastic experience with the staff but I think there is a new owner who has revamped the place. The interior is very cute with lights and a karaoke stage. My family and I enjoyed the food and the staff was very helpful. My favorite dishes were the seafood pancake, banchan, and the Budae Jigae.

Entrance

Food was flavorful and came out right away! Owner was immediately extremely sweet and welcoming. Atmosphere is beautiful and picture-worthy. Colored lanterns and cute vibrant decor! Feels like i'm under the sea! She has jazz music playing in the background which is a nice relaxing vibe. Portions are big so you get a good bang for your buck! Nice and big portions perfect for family or friend meals and smaller portion options for yourself. The entrance is a little hidden--on the side alley of the other Asian restaurant! String lights leading to the door welcome you. My friends and I ordered the wings and dumplings--all delicious! We didn't feel rushed while eating like a lot of places do. The owner made us feel welcome the whole time even though we were the last ones in the restaurant. She let us take a tour to look around at the decorations and take pictures. No complaints honestly, my friends and I had a great experience.

This place is absolutely delicious! Don't let the location (hidden down a side alley) fool you - this place is great. The budae jigae I had here was absolutely delicious - it was definitely the real deal. The side dishes were equally delicious - I was particularly impressed by how good the kimchi was. Needless to say, if you're craving Korean, check this place out!

Ordered: oh sam dolsot Ok can confirm that the oh sam dolsot is very good! And I think they are the only place in Columbus that does it?? To be honest, I've had better banchan but the lady working was super nice about offering us more so it's ok :) I also don't know if the oh sam dolsot normally comes with an extra bowl of rice but I was happy to receive lol. I think I might have come at an unexpected time? It kind of seemed like they didn't have waitstaff so there was borderline only one lady running in and out of the kitchen with one boy helping her clean and serve. So like massive kudos to her. Also, she was soooo nice and friendly. Definitely helps, too, that she was not a Chinese nationalist. She made it clear that she recognized the difference between China and Taiwan so she's a sweetie

Haven't been back to Restaurant Silla for ages and had some great time dinning in. The set up inside is quite different from what I remember. Right when you entered the restaurant, there is some beautiful décor. They also have a karaoke bar on the side as well. Once you get seated, you will scan the QR code at the table and order through the phone. I did noticed some place start having a similar pattern. I assume that would take some load off from the staffs. The food come fairly quick and the owner actually come periodically to check up on me. I got myself a bowl of Soondubu Jjigae and it is totally my go to order for something comforting.

The food comes out pretty quick considering they are making the sushi by order. I love their sushi options. If I can, I'll get the otoro (fatty tuna) and it's some of the best around Columbus that I've tried so far. They also have delicious cocktails that are well balanced. The only downside is trying to find parking since it's in the Short North. If you're lucky, you can snag a street parking spot near the restaurant.

Midway through my meal, they came around to light a candle at the table, which added such an intimate touch, and gave cozy date night energy in the best way. The edamame stood out because they generous with the flaky salt, which I personally loved. Sometimes places hold back, but this was well seasoned. 3. Customer Service (2.5/5) This is where things started to fall apart a bit. I stood at the front for about 12 minutes before being acknowledged, and the restaurant was nearly empty. I had to make eye contact with someone in the kitchen just to be seated. Service at the table wasn't much better. It took about 15 minutes just to get my drink order taken (which I had to flag the waitress down to order), and by that time I was ready to order my whole meal. I ordered an appetizer along with a couple of sushi rolls and some sake. I'm not sure if the waitress wasn't thinking about it, but she brought my rolls out before she even brought out my appetizer or my drink. The inconsistency was noticeable and took away from the experience. 4. Overall Taste (4.5/5) The food absolutely carried! I ordered a sweet potato roll and the Hoonie Roll, which ended up being my favorite part of the meal. Both were fresh, flavorful, and really well-balanced. Paired with the edamame and sake, everything came together nicely. 5. Overall Experience (3.9/5 ) Taking everything into account, the experience lands just under a 4. The food and atmosphere were strong, but the service created a noticeable disconnect. It's definitely one of those places where you'd go back for the food, but you'd hope the service catches up next time.

We were there around noon on a Sunday so they were not very busy but that was okay with us. I had made a Resy reservation because they recommended it. The interior is decorated very well and the light is slightly dimmed for a nice ambiance! They have really nice, and solid, dinnerware and glassware. We started with the crab rangoon tarts, 3 in an order, and the edamame. The tart shells were so buttery and the filling was the usual luscious crab mix. The edamame comes with salt or spicy, we chose salt. There was enough for all 3 of us. The drinks we chose were the Gin & Tea and the Lychee Martini. Both were delicious and the foam on both were handshaken and so creamy. The Gin & Tea was a surprise winner and I highly recommend it. We ordered 5 rolls. The Naruto, Center, Fantastic, Tiger and Dancing Salmon. I love Naruto rolls without the rice and nori, instead wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber. This one was well made and stayed together when using my chopsticks. It allows the fish to shine! The Center Roll had spicy tuna and a topping of avocado, masago and spicy mayo. It's what you would expect and well done. The Tiger Roll has a mix inside and on top. Each bite was a little different and delicious. The Fantastic Roll was just that! It had a lobster salad inside and slightly scorched Japanese scallops on top. The smokiness of the scallop was surprising and delicate and complemented the sweeter lobster salad. The Dancing Salmon roll had eel inside and salmon outside. I'm not a huge eel fan but this roll I ate and enjoyed. I hadn't had good restaurant sushi since NYC and this was up there with it. The quality of the fish, the server, the host and the overall atmosphere will bring go me back!!

And after that soft opening with a regular menu, this week they introduced an all-you-can-eat menu as well. So of course I got there as soon as I could. Quite an extensive menu for AYCE too, though not as big as their standard one. And full of interesting stuff. Nigiri, raw rolls, cooked rolls, deep-fried rolls, specialty rolls, apps, ramen, hibachi, and more. I wanted to try everything, but even though I arrived hungry I just couldn't. Maybe 25 years ago I could have eaten twice as much, and when the students hear about this they will clean them out. It's just down from where Japanese Oriental Restaurant used to be, and I used to save up and pig out there with my friends. Now I eat a bit less, but I still figure I had about $60 worth of sushi for $30. I started with seaweed salad- big portion, and very tasty. Fresh and a little spicy. Then unagi- two big pieces, excellent, tender and flavorful. Then maguro- good, melt in your mouth. Next I tried their "dragon eggs"- deep fried avocado with kani and tuna. OMG. Again, a big portion (two whole avocados, halved and stuffed. Finally, two big rolls: the High Street roll with spicy tuna, and the Seashore roll with salmon, kani, and more. Wow. Big, and tasty. Best sushi in town? No, but up there. Really good. Service was great. They open at noon, at least on weekdays, and I was the first one in. The decor is cool- it's an old house, and they have made it modern but with vintage touches. The bathrooms and waiting area are super cool. There's a bar off to one side, a sushi bar in back, and lots of sleek but comfy seating. Also a huge patio and courtyard out front. Free street parking out front (except during rush hour.) Also a small lot in back. Get here. If you like sushi, or other Japanese food, you'll like it. If you like a bargain, you'll love it. $27, yes, not cheap; but for sushi it's not bad, and for AYCE sushi it is a steal. A cool place to hang out, not far from campus, and drink, and eat good food till you're stuffed.

Atmosphere was modern and soothing. You can get ramen, cooked dishes like tempura, salads, all kinds of things. There's a full bar as well, and areas with cozy or romantic seating. The design was actually pretty cool, you could eat with a group or sit up at a bar by yourself and feel very comfortable either way. The sushi menu itself includes more traditional Japanese sushi, which honestly is what I'd recommend from the AYCE menu. They even have sashimi, which is cut thinly- which is fine, if you want more you can just order more, that prevents excessive waste. Most AYCE places wouldn't offer sashimi anyway. But the traditional sushi, sashimi and rolls were the ones we liked best. The more Americanized rolls with the alternative (non-nori) wraps were not as delicious, in our opinion. We couldn't figure out what it was, whether it was the wraps or an ingredient in the chopped sushi roll fillings. But there's a ton on this menu that was good. Will eat here again. Oh and a short note on large groups- maybe this is not the spot to go with a massive group? It's more of an intimate dining experience, although they do seem to allow big groups. I only mention this because I saw a negative review about slow service for large groups before we went and then the evening we went a group of maybe 10-12 college students impatiently waited by the door to be seated, even though the servers were polite and had to wait for multiple tables to clear at the same time to push together seat such a large group in a smallish restaurant- the patrons kept coming in and trying to sit at random tables before it was their turn. If you have a massive group I'd say split into multiple tables or maybe choose a different, larger or chain restaurant, like El Vaquero or Buffalo Wild Wings? Anyway I hope they left a good tip because the workers were very professional and the group was very large and very impatient.
