This restaurant features local sheep with black face. We ordered lamb tongues with vegetable-herbs and garlic oil marinade as appetizer, tongue was very tender and tasty, I loved my grilled rack of lamb with potato gratin and vegetables as main dish, it grilled to the right moment that one can taste the smoky flavor and meat flavor. I was also impressed by my wife's Braised lamb knuckle in aromatic red-wine sauce, potato gratin and vegetables sauces, it was tender and delicious. I asked waiter about the cooking style at the checkout, I thought it was French, and the answer was local, and descendent from long time ago.

Came here for the fondue and was certainly impressed with the experience. We tried the (all you can eat) Chinoise fondue, which come with 3 types of meats to cook in broth. The meats were all tender and tasted great once cooked but came out frozen around some pieces. You receive a plate of 5 different dipping sauces, pickled veggies, and fruit. We orders a couple more plates of meat. One business model that should change is the 1 hour time limit. We were basically booted because the next seating was arriving at 8:30. I don't like being rushed through my meals, but also we waited almost 15 min in the begining for someone to actually take our order so much of the ordering/tricking can occur during broad daylight.

What a cute little spot in Zermatt. The ambiance was great and our server was super friendly. We ordered the lamb knuckle (which was braised perfectly) and the salmon trout which was well seasoned (I usually don't like cooked salmon). Zermatt is expensive but for the food here, I would say this is one of the more reasonably priced restaurants in Zermatt!

I came in to town as a single traveler. I walked in at about 1530 and inquired on a reservation for 1. She cheerfully accommodated my request and found me a small spot corner table that was not needed for a larger group that frequents this restaurant. Every SINGLE COURSE WAS HEAVENLY!!!! Service is absolutely 110% Food and presentation- 125% Price (for the area) ON POINT!!!

Below the Romantik Hotel Julen you'll find some very good food that is just what your hungry stomach will be demanding after a day on the slopes. We stayed in the hotel and and so we enjoyed getting food delivered to our suite. Back-to-back nights of having the grilled lamb chops proved their spectacular flavor is not an accident. They are from the restaurant's farm and run approximately $50 for the entree but they are delicious. They are cooked perfectly and are plump and succulent. Other favorites we found were on the starter menu: 1- a large fried "ravioli" (looked more like a huge empanada) stuffed with sauerkraut and chunks of bacon atop a zucchini doused with a delectable brown sauce, and 2- a cheesy spinach-y "dumpling" atop a gentle tomato sauce (this dish was a special for one of the nights we ate here and is not on the regular menu). Both of these were wonderful and were prime examples of elevated comfort cuisine. The soups were a bit hit or miss- one night was delicious and the other mediocre. The dessert we tried-- the slice of raspberry quark- was good but not great. Note that if you stay at the Julen, you have the option for rolling a prix fixe into your rate and it is a good deal in terms of price; however, we did this last year when we stayed here and we found the food mediocre and the service a bit not so good. This year, we skipped the prix fixe and enjoyed the food we ordered (a la carte) much better. It was more expensive but much more enjoyable to eat. As I said, we enjoyed our dinners upstairs in private, so I cannot speak about the service; however, if it is on par with the morning crew who serves breakfast, you'll have no complaints.

I highly recommend everyone who travels to Zermatt to try this restaurant. Paul took very good care of us and so did our waitress Daniela. Each table has a little book about the history of the hotel and restaurant. It is a family owned business which provided the personal attention one would only find from a family owned restaurant. Our first visit to Schaferstube (correct spelling) we tried the Raclette and Cheese Fondue which we're both delicious. The Cheese Fondue was 25CHF for a very large portion. The Raclette was all you can eat for 40CHF. The Raclette also came with a cured meat plate and a very nice fruit plate for dessert. We liked it so much we went back to try the lamb which is what they are known for. Paul raises the sheep up the hill in Zermatt. I sampled each plate from our party of six and enjoyed each one. The plates I sampled included the lamb sausage, lamb chops, lamb knuckle and lamb burger. All of which were excellent.

We wanted cheese fondue, so asked few Swiss people for good restaurant, and this place was recommended. We ordered Salad Composition with cheese fondue. Salad was tasty and filling with assortment of cucumber, red onion, celery, pear (could be pineapple). Cheese fondue was good without overpowering cheese taste. I was too full to finish it, but they gave us more than enough bread pieces. The place was booked with reservations, but we got the table without reservation as we arrived 10 minutes before opening. I heard people coming back for more of good food. The place is very cozy and welcoming. I can see why the place gets booked out.

Best Lamb I have ever had! They bring it to you in 2 portions so your food doesn't get cold. Talk about service!

Amazing local family owned restaurant. Farm to table. Fondue, Rackette, venison were sublime.

Expensive place, 9 CHF for a bottle of water. The cheese fondue was good. I wasn't blown away, but I enjoyed it.

We started with a Valais Syrah wine, relatively heavy but an excellent accompaniment to the Raclette and salad.

Because we were a party of 3, we did not fit the number of chairs in the restaurant. She started to call 2 parties of 2 behind us. Since she's allowing parties of 2, I told her to just take my husband and my kid. I will not eat. After being the first to be seated in an empty 20 seats room, my husband and kid were served last. My husband said that she continued to be rude to them and other patrons. My kid said that his curry pork rice was the worst. The curry was clumpy and the rice was mushy. My husband said that his ramen was mediocre at best. The meat was dry and the noodles were clumped together. There are many other options at the Chamonix Village. There's no need to pay overpriced mediocre food and be treated badly. Definitely skip Tanpopo.

Although I can't agree with a previous review stating it was the "best ramen I've ever had," we enjoyed a tasty and comforting Japanese meal. They were not able to make maki rolls so we ordered the wakami seaweed salad as a starter that was nice and light. For entrees, we ordered the Tanpopo complet beef curry with boiled egg and a miso ramen bata with added spicy white sesame oil. One side note: I liked the kick of the spicy oil, but since that particular ramen comes with butter, it felt a bit too oily. My recommendation is to only add spicy oil to ramen that doesn't come with butter :) I felt that both the curry and ramen dishes needed some salt. Luckily, this was easily remedied by a couple shakes of the salt shaker. Overall, we enjoyed our first lunch in Chamonix!
