Came here for some fondue!! This is the oldest restaurant in zermatt and has recently been renovated and is such a cozy place. The fondue was delicious and came with bread and potatoes but the real star of the show was the Toblerone chocolate mousse, which we had a couple of other places but this one stole the show! The service was also incredible!

Great place to get fondue and the owner is hilarious ! Would highly recommend. Very cozy as well

Perry - one of the best servers we've ever had! Super funny and he taught us all the best ways to eat the fondue.

Without fail, I will return to this spot every time I visit Zermatt! The service and ambiance make it a must-visit! It is the oldest restaurant in Zermatt and a beautiful spot to people-watch, especially as the sun goes down. We were seated right away and received fantastic service. Our server (Perry) literally gave me the jacket off his back because he thought I looked cold and didn't believe me when I said I was fine (I wasn't, lol). Later, he came back with a jacket for my fiance, too. Perry was hilarious and very attentive. He also gave us a shot of their Alpine vodka to try and recommendations for late-night drinks afterward! We ordered the Fondue Du Pont which is a must-try when visiting Switzerland. It came with fresh bread and potatoes. The portion was for 2 people but 4 could've easily shared it. We had their house white wine which was delicious - bonus points for its hilarious name, "Doggystyle". The staff were all super friendly, and Perry is one of the best servers we've ever had! We will 100% be coming back!

We seated ourselves at the empty seats available outdoors. They were short staffed and the wait times were a bit longer than expected. We ordered a salad and snails for the evening. The meals took a bit to arrive. They were alright. How much better can a a salad get! However for $12 the portion of the salad seemed meager. Snails were okay.

It was a great fondue, amazing service and ambience. We got Fondue Du Pont, Dried meat appetizer, Pinot Noir house wine and the desert of the day (toblerone mousse). Everything was perfect. Service was above and beyond. Highly recommend it.

Amazing food, service & location. Highly recommend! Beautiful location in the alps. I'm

Melting of wheel of Raclette. They scrape off melted cheese onto a plate, add potatos and pickles. Yum.

Awesome food and service. It's a Mom and Pop kind of place. Comfort food which is great after a hard day on the slopes. Get the melted Raclette with potato and pickles appetizer. The locals love this and we saw tons of this leave the kitchen. We opted for the ribeye with Demi glacé. Very good. The staff works SO hard to pull this off every night. We had a great meal.

    fully loaded Rösti

Came here twice for lunch during our stay in close-by Randa. Atmosphere was very warm and cosy. Staff helpful, friendly and not rushing. We sat down at a table in the section on the right side of the restaurant. Nice wooden tables and benches. Really a Skihütten-Feeling. Had a local cheese and meat (cold cuts) plate with potatoes on the side. Some of the house wine with. And a plate of snails, a specialty here. The other day snails again (that's the good stuff) and a fully loaded Rösti with all the works (cheese, ham and two eggs). And that was probably the best Rösti I've ever had in any restaurant. A big load, fair for the price and really fills you up. The cheese was probably Raclette cheese, very nice. Prices were really fair for Zermatt, the place is really wonderful. It's the oldest restaurant in Zermatt and it feels like home and the staff did their part to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The house wine wasn't that great though. But as a whole experience highly recommended. We will be back.

OMG what a rip off! Big Warning. Fondue they say 42.00 Swiss francs for fondue for 2 but charged us 84.00! For cheese! Then 8 CHP for tap water. That's like 10 bucks! We also saw them pouring one kind of wine in a bottle into another and did I say they ONLY TAKE CASH? Another customer freaked out as well as we were leaving. We feel so ripped off!

This place is a must-have in Mattehorn!! Amazing food, service, and ambiance. Our server in the red sweater was so kind and accommodating with our meals. Thank you for a great dinner service that was nicely-paced and so flavorful/delicious!!

    Fondue in Zermatt, Switzerland

Great fondue! Definitely get the version with herbs. The menu says pricer per person, indicating if you want to share, this is what each person pays but this is NOT accurate. Just pay for 1 fondue ($24) and share it amongst 4 people. There will be enough yummy cheese, bread and potatoes to share. We also ordered a meat plate which was excellent. These two things fed 2 adults and two kids. This place has a lot of history and is the oldest restaurant in Zermatt. The owner comes around and makes sure you're taken care of. And if you're lucky, he'll show you his amazing photos of the Matterhorn. Juice and sodas were $4 Francs. Gratuity is included. We loved this place.

I was fine but just a tip for ya! Lols I got cozy basement Swiss vibes here. We were seated right away on a weekday afternoon for lunch. Place was full and it's not a big restaurant so must be a popular spot. Zermatt is quite the happening spot! Ordered the fondue and the hubs and I were fine with the serving for one person so the pot was only halfway full. But if you and your other half are super hungry, better get two orders. This fondue had a white wine taste to it, which was good even though I preferred the garlic fondue I had in Lucerne. The brat and fries were delish! * Tipping is not mandatory in Switzerland. Of course if your server went above and beyond for you, feel free to round up on the check and I'm sure they would appreciate it. But I think the Swiss servers know we tip in America so when it was time to pay our bill, our waitress said "oh and if you would like to leave a tip, you can do so right here." Oh lawd so tacky and awkward but whattaya gonna do. But of course we tipped her even though she wasn't that personable and attentive. Lols

We are a group of 9 and we wanted to dine at Restaurant Schäferstube after seeing a lot of good…read morereviews and recommendations from other people but Restaurant Schäferstube is full. I accidentally found Restaurant Julen, which is a sister restaurant of Restaurant Schäferstube, and in fact, it is in the same location but on the upper level of Restaurant Schäferstube. The most important thing is you can order the signature items of Restaurant Schäferstube from the menu of Restaurant Julen!!! So we decided to give it a try and I am so glad that we did! They don't accept reservations of more than 6 online, so I had to send an email to confirm and requested a window seat. I really like the atmosphere and the decorations of Restaurant Julen. Majority of us ordered the 'Grilled rack of lamb roasted pink on our wood grill' 2 courses from the SCHÄFERSTÜBLI GRILL. The lamb is soooooooo tender! I highly recommend this if you eat lamb, the lamb is special and unique in this region! Everyone was so happy with the food and service. We had a very good time there although we cannot stay late because we need to get up early to ski. If you cannot make a reservation at Restaurant Schäferstube, come here. If you just want to have the grilled lamb from Restaurant Schäferstube and don't mind where to go, come to Restaurant Julen, the sitting is so comfortable!
