Restaurant Les Armures is a historic (I heard oldest restaurant) in the middle of Geneva's Old Town (Vieille Ville). If you're a tourist it is just steps from Saint-Pierre Cathedral. Renowned for serving authentic traditional Swiss cuisine there are hearty dishes on the menu .I found the quality lived up to its reputation for the cheese fondue which was Gruyère and Vacherin cheeses with some kind of wine. I was walking around and stumbled by accident across Restaurant Les Armures. This restaurant welcomes everyone with open arms and staff is more than willing to help you navigate through their Swiss Menu. I walked in around, 17:30 (5:30pm), during their busy time and I asked if they had any open tables available for one person. The manager was so kind and graciously let me dine here. He did say, "As long as you can dine in an hour and a half, you should be fine. We do have reservations set past 19:00 (7:30pm)." I accepted his offer, "I appreciate it, I don't need but an hour." The atmosphere is very historic, dating back to 17th century. Here you will enjoy exquisite dishes and wonderful Swiss hospitality. The staff is more than happy give you great recommendations and help translate menu. They offer great choices on their menu. I wanted something completely local. I settled on, "Féra fumée du Léman" - Smoked Geneva Lake White Fish. My waiter also recommended something on the sweet side for dessert, " Mousse au chocolat suisse et Ovomaltine." - Swiss Chocolate Mousse with Ovomaltine. Every dish was delicious and worth the price. We had a lovely dinner at Restaurant Les Armures. We were excited to nestle into a table in the dining area that was decorated with knight armor and coats of arms. The classic fondue was delicious and we ordered it with two types of sausage, potatoes and bread. The local perch was also very good in a butter sauce. Definitely a restaurant that appeals to visitors more than locals, but it was a nice place to stop during our short visit in Geneva! read more

While this was a Geneva bucket list item, I don't know that I would return. We were sat for dinner outside, and their seating is quite crammed and on a slope to the point that our table was slightly tilted. Our server was generally attentive, however it took easily over an hour from the point of being seated to having our food arrive. The fondue was excellent however, and I'd recommend the choices we made of one traditional Vacherin/Gruyere fondue and one tomato based with the addition of sausage on the side. Highly recommend you make reservations in advance. It's a very beautiful establishment and food is pricey as expected but delicious. I took one star off because our service wasn't that great and each dish took forever to come out. It was just me and my fiancé for dinner and from us getting seated to getting the check it was about 2 hours. We ordered the Swiss onion soup to share and they were nice enough to split it into separate bowls. My fiance had the perch fillets and I had the steak. Food was cooked to perfection. This is a Geneva staple for both fondue and perch filets. If you're with the locals and they ask you where you ate dinner and you just say "Armures" they know where you're talking about. The raclette is generally eaten in the fall and winter but I couldn't resist having some when I was there in June. I definitely got some looks from the other tables but whatever. The perch (filets de perche) is mind blowing too and shouldn't be passed up. I know...that means two trips but that's okay. Service is typical Geneva which is to say paced for enjoying the company of the people at your table. read more

We had a late lunch at Restaurant Les Armures the Sunday afternoon we arrived in Geneva while waiting to check into our AirBnb. We were looking for some traditional Swiss food to start out our trip. The restaurant is in an old hotel towards the top of a very steep hill. We were able to sit outside. It's not super level and it was quite crowded. They were able to fit quite a few tables into a small space. I will say I felt very underdressed. This is the only place in Switzerland that I felt that way. My nephew ordered the pike and my partner and I shared the cheese fondue with a touch of blue cheese. The fondue was served with A LOT of bread. It was the tastiest fondue we had on the trip. I would have enjoyed something in addition to the bread but that's all they served to us. Our waiter chatted with my nephew about the pike and how they fish it out of Lake Geneva which he really enjoyed. He also enjoyed the pike itself. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and thought the service was stellar. It was expensive but everything in Switzerland is expensive. read more

We picked this restaurant as we were looking for a traditional Swiss meal on the last night of our trip. We walked by the restaurant earlier in the week and saw the beautiful white linen table cloths and were looking forward to an elevated experience. So we were a little disappointed when we showed up for our reservation and were escorted to a basement room with red and white checkered placemats on bare wood tables. There were plenty of open tables upstairs in the dining room, maybe they are for locals? I wish we hadn't bothered to get dressed up. This is a very nice restaurant with amazing cheese fondue and raclette. It's a little expensive but pretty reasonable for what you get and in a nice atmosphere! The raclette cheese is some of the best I've ever had. You get free bread which was also tasty and nice to use for the fondue and raclette. The waiter was very attentive, friendly, and funny. After stepping foot into Switzerland, though not my first time; all I could ever think about is having something cheese related. Fondue is highly recommended here, and I definitely wanted to dine here and wanted my cheese fix. Unfortunately, being a foreigner and a tourist for that matter, certain experiences isn't always called for nor appreciated. Geneva is a relatively small city and so everything is connected and easily accessible. You can find this charming restaurant and the oldest cafe in Geneva perched atop a quiet hill just minutes away from the 12 tram line. Upon arrival, the host, not only did he accept our walk in request but gave my party and I ample room to dine. They were fully reserved and so that was very much appreciated. We each ordered a starter course, and an alcoholic beverage. Fondue was the star pot for our meal and it did not disappoint. A simple heaping of toasted bread and boiled potatoes were a fitting and filling choice to dip in a creamy cheese and wine blended sauce. I will say that while it is not the fault of the restaurant, the party of 6 that sat next to my table was an unexpected crowd. My question is why would you come to a restaurant that serves fondue when you despise the odor the food emits? Well, these people basically took out their cologne/parfume and spritzed in my direction. That definitely ruined the eating experience to the point that we decided to not consume the rest of the fondue. The party seated next to us were rude and in no way mindful; yes the restaurant serves fondue. If you do not want to smell it, then dine elsewhere. Correct me if I'm wrong about the being foreign opinion, but it is definitely not entirely incorrect. This place was incredible. We initially planned to go somewhere else but they were only offering fondue at lunch and so we took their advice and came to this spot. Definitely an amazing experience. We fortunately got a table at 6pm on a Friday night without a reservation. They were super busy. It took a little while to place our order but once we did, our items started coming out at a good pace. The spinach salad with goat cheese, red onion, and nuts is delicious. Definitely recommend. We ordered the fondue our waiter recommended and it was incredible. So tasty and honestly an insane amount of food. We couldn't finish what we ordered. The waiter was so fun and showed us how to eat the fondue the traditional way locals do. I'm so happy we were able to stop in this spot. It's an awesome experience! Dinning here left a warm and fond memory, the star of the show was undeniably their cheese fondue, it was definitely a melty masterpiece, so rich and creamy. We went to this restaurant because our hotel recommended the place and so they booked us a reservation. I really wanted to like this place because it was a bucket list for me. I probably ordered the wrong thing but the fondue was overly salty , we ordered a medium steak and got a rare. We had to ask for every thing even bread. We made our reservation online a week or so in advance. This restaurant is located in the Old Town area of Geneva in a 17th century building. The restaurant is charming. We absolutely loved it. Our waiter was amazing. We ordered gorgeous salads, French Onion Soup, Raclette with Potatoes, Mushroom and Bacon Fondue, and Pesto Tortellini. One of the rudest front of house experiences I have ever had the displeasure of running into. French waiters and hot dog vendors in New York alike would have flinched. I had been here a couple of times over the years and wanted to share the experience with my daughters- big mistake. We had a reservation for 2215 which was admittedly surprisingly late for Geneva. Not our first choice but it was what was available. We arrived and they were not ready- not a big deal- we sat five or ten minutes later although the heat was cranked up to 30 degrees. The second we sat the bum rush started. Menus dropped and then asked in the first five minutes of sitting three times what we wanted to order. Finally maître d' came over- well inside the personal space of my wife and I- and basically yelled that the kitchen was closing so we had to order or else. Food was fine but rushed. Our waitress was good and attentive and was kind enough to offer dessert menus and coffee. Would have chalked it up to a jerk maître d' but as we were leaving, one of the waiters said something dismissive and rude assuming no one in my family spoke French. There is clearly a disconnect between whoever sets their reservation policy and the front of the house at the restaurant. Fondue and perche abound in Geneva so until they figure that out (and figure out the thermostat), I would not bother with this place. read more

So I'm not a local guide but I lived in Geneva for a few years. There are great restaurants with authentic Swiss food- best fondue in the country is Cafe du Soleil in Petit Sacconex. Unfortunately Les Armures has developed into a tourist trap where maximizing table turns trumps food quality. The setting is very nice. Service is fine. But you can't serve raclette that is burned; Swiss onion soup that has no flavor, and Zurich style veal with almost no seasoning. It was sad as we used to take people there when they visited.
