I wish I had seen these reviews on Yelp before I booked, but at least I got a refund before actually having to stay in the property they were trying to rent us. Classic bait-and-switch SCAM. They canceled our original VRBO Oahu rentals twice, offering a different property each time via email for houses that were listed on VRBO. They sent an email with a link to book through Rental Advisor instead of VRBO, which would have been protected by VRBO's Book with Confidence Guarantee. Because this whole process seemed fishy and Rental Advisor was not forthcoming about renter protections I decided to go deep enough into the booking process to see their Renter Agreement, in which I found the property address. I searched the property on Google Maps and found the house in a rundown neighborhood nowhere near ocean beaches (like the rental "bait"). Needless to say I canceled the original rentals (twice, because they actually listed TWO great-looking rentals on Oahu as "bait.") I feel for the folks who actually ended up in some of their properties and had ruined vacations. I'm a pretty savvy traveler and even I almost fell for their scams. STAY AWAY! The photos: The one in the daylight was the "bait," the one taken at night is the "switch" (pretty nice, huh?) and the street is where the house is located. read more

If I could give no stars I would! We stayed in a rental home in Hauula. The inside was super cute. We arrived and there is no AC Unit. We received. Email about theft in the area' so we were afraid to open the windows and leave. The beds were HORRIBLE! Cheapest beds they could find. When we contacted them for a refund they said no. Didn't offer to get us an AC unit just told us that "you should have been here last week, it was hotter. And no one in Hawaii has AC " well we had another unit a few blocks away that did!! After my review was posted on VRBO- they had it taken down. Said I threatened to leave a bad review if I was not compensated for having to spend two of the hottest nights in a hotel! Oh and just in case you do get to sleep- the Rooster farm next door will make sure it's not for long!! read more

Terrible property management. They don't take care of your property. Unlicensed, unprofessional, and most definitely dishonest. When a company has to rebrand 3 times, it's a major red flag. Formerly called Alii Estates LLC, then changed to Lavish Getaways after bad reviews. Then after more bad reviews, they rebranded to Rental Advisor. All I can say is RUN as far as you can from this unlicensed property management company. read more

Rental Advisors are scammers. If you are looking to rent a vacation home -DO NOT RENT from them. We were forced to cancel due to the coronavirus and they refused to refund us even a penny. We didn't go the property yet they charged us cleaning fees, damage waiver, etc. It is not an honest company. I'm filing a better business bureau complaint. read more

They manage an AirBnb on the north shore of Oahu. The place has RATS! We trapped 2 during our stay. Cockroaches were in silverware drawer when we arrived. Place is dirty & needs lots of maintenance. Not worth the price. The beach is amazing. Property is poorly maintained. Host doesn't know what is at the property or not. Oven didn't work. Settling floors. Some ceiling fans don't work & no AC. Few outlets & lots don't work. This was reported in a previous review & still not fixed. Bathroom doors don't actually lock. Brown rust spots on ceiling. Broken cabinets. Some windows don't close & open properly. Missing attic vent covers which lets pests in. Washers & dryers are old & don't work well. Dishwasher missing pieces. One dishwasher has a broken spring so it will fling up and pinch fingers. No toilet paper holder in the master bathroom. House is advertised to sleep 15 people but there are 5 spoons provided. Kitchen does not have basics. No laundry soap, trash bags, or other basics provided like salt and pepper. read more

Do not rent a property thru this company, another reviewer said it correctly they are scammers, straight up thieves. I went in search for a Tahoe vacation rental for my family reunion of 20 people coming from all over the states n Hawaii, I booked 1 property and paid in full in June for a vacation in September, started out fine. The fires in California was raging n lots of people were being evacuated, 11 days before my check in I asked to cancel with a full refund, needless to say it went back n forth n they wanted me to continue my vacation as planned, that city was evacuating the day of my check in. they tried to to tell me to ask VRBO which suggested I get a full refund, well to date I loss over $2000 renting this property n got nothing back. They didn't hold up there end n took my money. Any hotel would've given me a full refund n the other property we rented gave us a full refund that one was thru AirBnB. No respect for people, they didn't earn a dime but took it anyway. read more

I started my search in April for a one week rental in July in Hawaii through VRBO. Our group has used VRBO for years, and have always had excellent results. I sent a few questions to the "reservation specialist" in the listing for the house we all liked on the north shore of Oahu, got answers, and agreed to the cost. Unknown to me, the "reservation specialist" responded off line from VRBO, sending a quote and contract, and "Book now" button that looked like it was from VRBO. I used that button to book the house (with a $7k deposit included - total rental was over$15k for this luxury home). Later, when I had additional questions, I contacted VRBO using the reservation number I was given, only to learn they had no record of it. I would have preferred to deal with VRBO because of their national reputation and the history we have with them. VRBO told me I was on my own since I did not book with them, but they would investigate the apparent fraudulent use of their web site. After investigating, I learned the "reservation specialist" worked for Myrentaladvisor.com, which was formerly known as "Lavish Getaways." They changed their name in 2014 due to extremely poor reviews on Yelp-(poorly maintained or filthy houses - property manager did not show up - employees were not happy with the company). Their office is in Arizona, but they never answer the phone. My Rental Advisor advertised 1 hour response on questions. I called their office 4 to 5 times during business hours with never any response. "Terry" eventually did call me back, but we only spoke for a few minutes before she said her shift was ending and she hung up. The calendar on VRBO showed no reservations for this home in July or August, including our reservation. They probably did this to avoid paying VRBO their fees. My rental advisor maintains a master calendar for the property, but our reservation was not shown on that calendar either. After a little more research, I contacted the manager (Jacob Hansen) at Myrentaladvisor. He bills himself as a Six Sigma black belt. For those who do not know, the Six Sigma program was started at GE by Jack Welsh, and that may be the reason GE is currently failing. He received terrible reviews on Glassdoor (an employee rating system). The problems were that the company pays $7 -8 per hour (below minimum wage?), employees work from home, with some describing their manager as "dishonest". When I spoke with him, I discussed the problems of the reservation calendar not being up to date (he would talk to his IT guy), and the switch from VRBO to Myrentaladvisors during the booking process (he stated there is no way to add this info to their website), and the lack of communication from the staff at Myrentaladvisors (he would check the phone logs). He also told me he would take up the problems at the next "management meeting." I could find no other management people at Myrentaladvisors. When I was looking for more info on the house, I also discovered it was for sale and listed on MLS. I left a message for the reservation specialist, and she called back after 24 hours. She seemed genuinely surprised to find the house was for sale, since it was "doing so well." She told me that it was common for owners to list a house for sale. She called the owner and reported that they are testing the waters on the sale of the house. Since we booked the house in April for a July rental, I was concerned that the house could be sold and our reservation would be cancelled. Had we used VRBO for the reservation, they would have assisted us with finding a substitute from their large inventory. Myrentaladvisors has a relatively small number of listings. Finally, Myrentaladvisor was supposed to send us instructions at 90 days and 5 days before the rental date but failed to do so until I contacted them via e mail. How did it turn out? The house was not sold. The house was overun with Geckos and cockroaches- maybe this is normal for Hawaii? Beach towels were provided along with bath towels and were all high quality. The bedding was not what you expect (stained and worn) in a luxury rental. There were no instructions involving the trash cans, and all were overflowing when we arrived. We watched the neighbors and put the cans out on the correct date. The house is on a busy highway, and it would have been impossible to back out of the small driveway onto that road, so we parked along the highway. The garage was small and so overloaded with trash cans and other items we could not fit a mini van in to it. The yard overlooking the beach was very attractive. It was difficult to swim there because of the boulders and rocks in the water. The problems with Myrentaladvbisors, with the house, and the high volume of traffic along the north shore (Kamehameha Hwy) adds up to never wanting to go back to Oahu again. The next time I want to visit Hawaii, I will try Mauai and will be sure to use VRBO. read more
