I would call this restaurant approachable French cuisine. It is laid back and not stuffy. The menu seems fine dining but I would say it is delivered more like southern style. The French mainstays are good. The frites are amazing. Yes I know they are just French fries but they are damn delicious. It is a solid meal but I wouldn't call it uniquely inspired. It delivers exactly what you would expect...which is a good thing. read more

Great service and delicious food! Easy parking in the lot. Outdoor dining is available as well.

Fantastic! Everything we ordered was delicious and a great price! They did a great job with social distancing as well. read more

Rendezvous - Escargots et Champagne - French Near Me - Asheville, North Carolina

It was lovely. We both got the steak au poivre and it was delish. Our waitress was delightful and right on time. The pommes frites could have been hotter, but overall a wonderful culinary experience and we'll be back. read more

I'm partial because I live in Haw Creek but I found the food and service excellent. We sat at a high top because we didn't make reservations. I will admit I was a little turned off by this to start because it was a Wednesday night and they had open tables in the dining room. I decided I wasn't going to let that ruin my experience. We started with tomato salad - it was amazing. I could it'll eat that salad every - single - day. For entree I had the mussels. M-W they have an "all you can eat" mussels special, 5 styles to choose from. I was able to do half orders so I could try more styles. I had two traditional styles and one very spicy with andouille sausage. My husband had the rabbit dish that was essentially rabbit pot pie. He enjoyed it very much. Outdoor space looked great. Hopefully they will start a weekend brunch soon. read more

Rendezvous - Duck Leg - French Near Me - Asheville, North Carolina

Went here a few months ago and was not impressed (French Chardonnay that was NOT chilled and dry salmon). But was encouraged to give it a second try. Ok. I had steak au poivre (with frites included) and my wife had steak frites. They got the order mixed up and gave us both au poivre. Not a huge deal - they corrected it. But they delivered the frites, like, 10 minutes before the steaks. What??? I like hot frites with the hot entree and all in the sauce. My steak entree was fine. My wife said her steak was almost inedible and the sauce (garlic butter) was awful. She barely ate the steak and I'm hoping I can improve it for steak and eggs to use the leftovers. I don't understand the high ratings for this restaurant. Not worth the second try, and I won't be back. read more

Generous meal portions. We shared the pate plate to start which was excellent. The duck was fantastic. My quiche wasn't so great. It wasn't very hot and the pastry crust was a bit soggy like it had been microwaved so that was disappointing. We liked the wine selection and finished with a nice bread and butter pudding. read more

Nice atmosphere, but food was lacking. Salmon was overcooked, little taste. Limited wine selection. Nothing special.

This review is specifically for take home meals ordered for Christmas. The meal included prime rib roast, carrots and scallop potatoes. When we opened the meals I was shocked to see not prime rib, but thin sliced beef. This was not in the description. Had I wanted sandwich meat, I would have ordered from a deli. I found this to be a misrepresentation that ruined a Christmas dinner for 2. Cannot recommend and won't try again. read more

Well I've been waiting for it to open and thank god it did. I had the best meal I have had in Asheville. What a wonderful evening. Service food and ambiance all fun and top notch. We brought our dog and the dog even liked it. Reservations in this town are rare so that's a huge plus for me. It's the quality of Bouchon with free parking. Yay. read more

This place is hopelessly disorganized. For some time, I have failed to get in to eat at Bouchon: apart from the horrors of parking downtown, I have never gotten there, at any time, without being told it would be at least 45 minutes wait for a table. So I never ate there. But the new branch, we were told, would take reservations! So there was a chance. Well, my wife and I went not long after they opened. The vaunted parking lot was over-full, but we parked up on the side in a non-space, and no one complained. The hostess was completely uncoordinated as far as what to do with the people who were showing up with reservations, but eventually we were seated. Service was incompetent - waitress was pleasant enough, but didn't recognize any of the names of dishes on the menu, so communicating an order was a bit tough. Food was not spectacular, but also not bad - I guess I'd give it 3.5 stars, with another one lopped off for service, noisy environment, and general disorder. But the second time was a killer! We wanted to take a friend there for a farewell dinner. I called on Thursday, asked if they had a table for 3 around 7:30 any time on the weekend. "Sure, we can do Sunday!" So all was arranged. And then when the three of us arrived Sunday just before 7:30, the place was closed (despite Google saying it was open, and since they have no website, how else to know?), Nobody there, door locked, parking lot blocked off with ropes and a fresh coat of tar applied. Dead as a doornail. Perhaps they had some reason to close. But they had my phone number, and they could at least have called to tell me they couldn't honor the reservation. This is just totally unforgivable. Perhaps they will get their act in order eventually, but you'd really think that after all these months (more than a year since they announced they were going to open this place) they'd be at least semi-competent at running a restaurant in a town where there are so many good choices. read more

Went there for Thanksgiving . In all fairness probably not the best time to review a meal but for the cost I had to say something. First, The place was filled , every table occupied. The noise level was very high. I noticed quite a few noise dampers affixed to the ceiling but they don't seem to help . It was hard to hold a conversation with my wife. The appetizer salad had a nice cheese that paired well with the dried cranberries but the greens were limp and lifeless. I had the beef. It was properly cooked but the sauce added nothing to it. My wife ordered the salmon and specifically asked that it be rare. It came well and dry. Due to the rush and a harried waitress we did not return it. The waitress was however very nice . This was not a French meal. The topper was the many stink bugs crawling on the ceiling above us and up the curtains next to us. read more

Went for dinner with two other couples on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very loud, though we were seated in an alcove. The service was subpar with duplicate servers asking the same questions. The trout entre was drenched in butter and tasteless as were the soggy vegetables served with it. My husband got the fish special which he said was good, as well the side of vegetables were soggy and tasteless. The best part of the meal was the cheesecake. We enjoy the variety Asheville offers and if we are going to head to that side of town we would prefer Copper Crown or Post 70. One and done. read more

I am reluctant to leave a less than positive review, as I expected to love Rendezvous. The food is up to Bouchon standards, almost. Close enough. The ability to make a reservation, and park, is fantastic. The problem is the ambient noise level. Servers can not hear your order. You cannot understand their explanation of the specials. You probably cannot hear the person across the table. The room is a clever, modern design which simply does not work. I have never knocked a restaurant for its interior design before. As much as I want to love this place, I simply will not return until I hear something has been done to fix the acoustics. read more

East Asheville really needed a fine French restaurant and Rendezvous fills that bill beautifully. My party this week enjoyed the mussels, the steak, the salmon and the beef burgundy. Everything was prepared just about perfectly. The beef burgundy was especially wonderful - hearty and fork tender. If I order mussels in future I will ask that they put only enough mussels in the bowl that are in sauce (as more than half aren't), then ask for more (as mussels are all you can eat). Of course this problem could be eliminated if the mussels were served in a larger bowl. Other than that - no issues. Wine list great. Chocolate mousse not to be missed and try the black walnut liqueur with your coffee - it's locally made, unique and really lovely. read more

This place is pretty good. I come from a French family, and my mom said the ambiance and food reminded her so much of her grandparents. From the food to the music to the plates on the wall .. I was shocked on how fast everything came, so I wonder if it is all made before hand instead of made to order and that's why it didn't get 5 stars, but nevertheless we will return. read more

Tonight was our first time at Rendezvous. It did not disappoint in any way whatsoever. Clearly Front House Manager Aja J. is on top of her game in creating an excellent ambiance for a delicious meal. The staff was attentive and yet not too much so. Food arrived quickly and was so good: sweetbreads and pommes frites for appetizers, beet salad, bacon greens, shepherd's pie, duck ravioli and crab cake! Excellent wine and beer as well. We finished it off with creme brûlée and are now home and stuffed to the brim. After almost two years of rarely eating anywhere but home this was truly an evening to remember. We will return. read more

This is my new favorite Asheville restaurant, especially for a special evening out. Same excellent food and service as their sister, Bouchon, but with better parking and a quieter atmosphere. RendezVous is definitely worth the short drive! read more

We were really excited about the thought of a Valentines dinner at Rendezvous. Unfortunately it wasn't all that great. We were a party of four who had a reservation for 9 pm. We were finally seated at 9:45 in the bar area. Our Negronis were not mixed well and tasted like cough syrup. My friend's grouper was raw, so she reluctantly sent it back only to receive another serving 20 minutes later that was raw. The staff was obviously trying to rush us. Someone took my plate and fries without asking if I was finished. Restaurant staff started eating at the bar like the night was over. They compensated the very expensive grouper meal with a dessert -- not much of a trade off. When a table of four has a reservation and spends nearly $350 on food and beverages, you would think that they would NOT be rushed out. It was absolutely ridiculous, and the fact the restaurant boasts of French comfort food is a slight to anyone who has actually enjoyed a meal in a France where they aren't rushed and the experience is just as important as the food that is served. My suggestion to the restaurant-- don't take reservations after 9 if you want to be closed by 11, especially if you seat parties 45 minutes AFTER the reservation time. RUDE!!! read more

Menu looked great but regrettably - we only got as far as drinks. We asked for seating on the porch ( doah ! 4 tops only we are 2 ) and got an umbrella table instread. This is one of my favorite places, The service and the food are so magnificent. The wine selection Was top rate. Can't wait to get back

Far from anything special. Food menu could use a more modern revisit. The dishes tasted as if they were from the 1970's. Each item could have been so much better if re-imagined for modern tastes. Service was mediocre at best. A very disappointing dining experience read more

Bouchon and Rendezvous are two of our favorites. Celebrated a birthday - first time dining out since the virus appeared. With Social Distancing and masks and many precautions in place it was so nice to have a social evening out of our house. As always the steamed mussels and fries are the best. A beautiful evening for dining outside. Highly recommend! read more

We were very anxious to try Rendezvous after being a big fan of Bouchon downtown Asheville. Friends made reservations for four couples to give it a try. Food and service was fantastic. Our waiter Blake was very attentive and did a great job. I was a little concerned having read the first two reviews by Carl and Stephen but if their concerns were real, I chalk them off to being professional critics. Only concern we had is that the main dining area is very noisy. We understand that this is being addressed by the owner who has a consultant working on a solution to soften the noise level. Our group had a variety of main courses from halibut to steak. All were great and the pomme frites were the best and as we remembered them from Bouchon downtown. A must try new restaurant. We will be going back. read more

Did a repeat at Rondezvous last night... another 10. Our server Nadia was again outstanding. we had mussels, escargot and bouillabaisse all prepared perfectly. So far the restaurant is doing a great job. We had an apartment in Paris and spent many months doing business all over France and have dined at dozens of places so we have an understanding of excellent French food preparation. FYI a French bistro is always noisy. read more

My husband and I ate there tonight and loved it. We had the all you could eat mussels and frites. They brought bread and butter to begin and quickly replaced when we finished our basket. The house white wine was great. We each ordered 1/2 orders of the mussels so we could try 2 flavors each, and when they brought out the first bowls we thought they made a mistake as the bowls were huge. We liked all 4 flavors we tried. And the frites were crispy and perfect. Even through we were stuffed we split an order of chocolate mousse which was also delicious. We will definitely be returning. So glad to have a restaurant in the neighborhood. read more

Everything was delicious, steak with butter, veggies, and fries with roasted red pepper mayo and garlic, plus a tasty dessert, and wine of course. It was however very low lighting and the server was kind of confusing. Only brought out half the appetizer (roasted garlic) but I think it's because the other half (mayo and fries) was part of my entree (steak frites)? Could've been more clear about why he didn't bring out the whole appetizer at once. Food was so good though I'd maybe even be tempted to try real French stuff like caviar or duck! read more

Food great - just like downtown at Bouchon. However, the place is extremely noisy. Many restaurants in Asheville are noisy, but Rendezvous wins first prize. We will not return unless the noise problem is resvolved. read more

Everything that passed our eight lips was absolutely prepared and presented to perfection. Everything. Having been Bouchon fans for a long time, we were thrilled to be able to enjoy their superior French cuisine a little closer to home, with a reservation, in an almost rural setting compared to Lexington downtown. Having read the negative comments in some reviews, the ONLY one we could find accuracy in is the noise level in the main dining room, but, as that reviewer stated, and as our server proactively told us, management is working on acoustic alterations that will address that issue in the not too distant future. Do not hesitate to enjoy Rendezvous... your tastebuds will thank you. It's absolutely among the top restaurants in the region. read more

I almost gave the place 2 stars, but decided on 3, because I think if I had ordered something else I would have enjoyed it more. But my boyfriend really enjoyed his food, so I feel like it was probably a decent restaurant. I liked the atmosphere. I liked the waitress. The bread and butter were good. We should have gotten a desert as the table next to us got one that looked amazing and it looked like they really enjoyed it. I got the unlimited muscles. My mistake was ordering Parisian sauce on my first order. They were out of the Louisiana sauce which is the one I would probably have enjoyed the most, but they did have all the other four available. It was cool they had 5 choices. The muscles were good, but I didn't like the Parisian sauce. I guess it was that it had so much white wine in it and felt like that was basically all. The Mediterranean sauce was better but I was a little tipsy and full by that point. I didn't come hungry enough for the unlimited muscles! But I felt like it was a good deal. The Mediterranean sauce had more to it. It wasn't plain. There were pieces of garlic in it and also it had more flavor. We did get the escargot which my boyfriend enjoyed. I really can't say whether I thought it was good or not, because it was my first time with snails. I wonder what all the fuss is about, cause I wasn't that impressed. He got the chicken cordon bleu and liked it. The French Fries were awesome!!!! The side of veggies was not. No flavor. I thought the French loved butter, so I at least expected more butter on those or some other flavorful ingredient. So - in closing: get the muscles but if you aren't crazy about muscles in mostly just white wine then get the Mediterranean sauce and it sounds like the Louisiana sauce was good according to table next to us. They are not all you can eat every night, so call to ask first if that is important to you. The bread and butter are good. The server was very cool and nice. The atmosphere was great. Cozy and cool vibe. Cordon Bleu was good. Snails are what you expect I guess. French fries amazing. Side of mixed veggies are a no-no unless you like very bland veggies. Asheville overall was a very happy and friendly town with a positive vibe and I would love to go back and I definitely want to try the Israeli restaurant which we almost tried. They didn't offer tomato and cucumber salad which I thought was really weird because my ex boyfriend's mother who was from Israel made it all the time and I have had it at other Israeli or Mediterranean or Middle Eastern restaurants. But I still wish we would have eaten there! I want to go back! read more

My favorite restaurant in Asheville. Have been there 3 times in the past month since they recently opened. The food is authentic French country. Have had several different menu items and all have been delicious, served hot and expediently. Service has been friendly and efficient. The salad grand pere was to die for with lardons and a dijon vinaigrette. The steak au poivre was delicious, done to perfection with a cognac sauce. The chicken cordon bleu and the beef bourgignon were equally tasty. The truite amandine the best I've had. The moules are a fun experience with several sauces to choose from. The house wine is great and reasonably priced from a vineyard in the Rhone valley personally known by the owner. Have had 2 of the desserts, the chocolate mousse and the fruit crepes both wonderful. I love this place and already have a reservation to return next week. Also great that they take reservations and have parking a definite us in Asheville read more
