I want to tell you there's no need to shop around. I called and the owner personally contacted me the same day. Lawrence was very thorough and personable. He sent Steve out to measure within a few days. Steve was a great representative for this company and was here early today to install the rails that were prefabricated in the shop, he had them in within an hour, left no mess and the railings have a great finish including these decorative square finished caps at each leg. Very reasonable prices but the quality and staff are second to none. Thank you for making this a simple process.

    Very sturdy and beautifully installed.

A few years ago we replaced our aging walkways and stoops. We obtained a very reasonable bid from Reliable Rails to add a hand rail to the kitchen stoop. However, we were concerned putting up a railing would make the landing seem smaller, so we never had it done. A couple of months ago, we got tired of hugging the wall of the house going up and down the steps and decided it was time to put in the railing. We got a bid from a different contractor recommended to us by a neighbor, but the price seemed totally out of line. We asked Mr. Giles at Reliable Rails to update his now years-old proposal and it came back just slightly higher. We had him do the work and we could not be happier. The railing is very handsome, beautifully constructed, and makes the landing seem larger rather than smaller since we now can use all the space without worry about falling off the edge. We should have had Reliable do the work years ago. Mr. Giles and his team were uniformly friendly, helpful, and careful in measuring for and installing the railing. There was no debris left in the planting bed that surrounds the stoop and no collateral damage to any plants or other items. We heartily recommend Reliable Rails.

We hired Lawrence at Reliable Rails last July to replace our iron railing and paint our whole railing on our front porch which was 28 years old. While we felt the fee to paint the rail was extremely high, we thought about it and figured it would be done professionally and would last a long time so we agreed to it. They were supposed to come on a specific day but Lawrence called in the afternoon and said they wouldn't be able to come that day. I said no problem because it really wasn't. They showed up the next day and did the ironwork excellently and we were very pleased with that part of it. The painting is the problem. They did not get rid of the rust and it is running rust down all the posts. It looks AWFUL! I called Lawrence to try and address it and he was extremely rude and swore he never even painted the railing that he only repaired it. I sent him the invoice and circled the fee for painting the whole rail. He never answered and obviously hasn't repaired it. See the pictures for yourself!

They worked very hard despite cold winter temperatures and completed the job in a timely manner. They took their time laying the posts and carefully measuring the distances and property line. Antonio is very detail oriented and made sure that we were comfortable with the property line and we discussed how the fence would flow given the grade of the property. I appreciated that he is definitely of the "measure twice (or three times), cut once" mindset and I felt like he was very focused on getting it right and making sure that I was comfortable before starting the install. I never got the sense that he was trying to rush this job to hurry off to another project. His team left our yard spotless during and after the install and graciously cleared bushes and brush in order to install the fence in the first place. Any time I had a question about the project or needed clarification, Antonio was quick to call or text me. He is very customer service oriented and puts a lot of effort into maintaining open lines of communication and partnering with his clients to get the job done right. Every day he said he would show up to work, he did, and he was always available by text (day or night, including weekends). His communication skills are amazing and his good nature and positive attitude made the project go smoothly, despite some external forces (that had nothing to do with Antonio and his team) that made it unnecessarily challenging. I highly recommend Antonio and his team.

He took over an hour to measure everything and sent me the lumber quote he received so that I was fully informed, then we talked labor. He would point out problematic areas (like rotting framing) and would ask me if I wanted to have it replaced rather than just covering it up with the new surface. He did an amazing job that had my mom's tenants and the neighbors complementing the work and I felt the price was very reasonable. Based on that job, I brought him out to take a look at my townhouse to possibly replace the siding and he suggested sanding, priming and painting instead due to the price of replacement. They sanded almost every square inch of it, primed it (in some areas twice) with a peeling paint primer that is like glue to fill in gaps and keep the rest of the old paint from peeling, and then put a double coat over everything. When they finished, I was surprised to find that they had power washed our patio, porch, and front half-height fence and even painted the fence though we never talked about doing any of that work. I felt compelled to pay him extra. Deck Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wELQYf0YGKY

From our very first meeting with Cliff (the company owner!) to the final walk-through with Sam, the project manager, the experience was exceptional every step of the way. The communication throughout the entire process was outstanding. Not once did we feel anything less than a top priority. Texts were answered within an hour, and emails were always returned within hours. That level of responsiveness gave us complete confidence and peace of mind. Mike, Pavlo, and Wade were the primary builders, and they were phenomenal. They treated us like rock stars during the entire three-and-a-half-week build. Mike, the lead carpenter, took the time to explain every phase of the project in detail, which my wife and I truly appreciated. Whitmer Decks removed our old deck and built a beautiful new 14x12 screened porch, along with a 10x10 deck and staircase. I'm no professional photographer, but the results speak for themselves--we are absolutely thrilled. We can't wait for warmer weather so we can fully enjoy our stunning new space. The craftsmanship is simply incredible. These guys are true artists. Every time we look at the work Whitmer Decks completed, we're blown away all over again. Thank you to Cliff, Sam, Mike, Pavlo, Wade, Keen--and Spark Roofing as well. You are all amazing, and we will not hesitate to give our highest recommendation to anyone who asks. I want to mention that their estimate/upgrade process was incredibly easy and actually fun to work with! Each upgrade came with about 5-10 photos that were VERY helpful in envisioning what the final product would actually look like! With gratitude, Shawn Purcell

The decision ultimately came down to how many supporting beams were being used by Sundecks (we did not want a supporting beam blocking our view from the walk out basement).Price wise, Sundecks were one of the more expensive . The work was done in a timely manner. The staff were polite and acted in a professional manner. The deck itself seems structurally sounds (the deck was completed late summer 2017) and from afar looks attractive. However, there is no finesse. There are nails in random places that have no function (they go in and out of the same piece of wood only). A lot of the nails were not hammered in properly and I had to go around with a hammer ensuring the ones that may come into contact with a person (railings etc.,) were flush to avoid injury. The corner beams on the railings are not level either (they are off set to each other). The nails in the base (floor part) are not positioned in straight line so up close it just looks sloppy, like I have done it myself. There are a lot of split pieces of wood, most caused by sloppy nail work. It just screams laziness. Now, if Sundecks had been one of the cheaper quotes, these details (although they would still bother me) would not annoy me half as much, since you should get what you pay for. But they charged a lot and the work is sloppy in terms of the aesthetics. It is for this reason I most likely would not recommend Sundecks, since for the money you should be able to get something more finessed.

When Rick came to give me an estimate for the project he brought books that had the different colors and grades/levels of composite decking as well as a book with the different railing and baluster choices. Now I did have other estimates set up, however one did not show, and the other company was very nice but they emailed me the quote a few days later and told me they used Trex decking and that was it, no brochures or explaining the different options, nothing, made me wonder if I was supposed to do my own research. Rick explained the high and low end options and the differences in the type of boards Trex carries, which were also pictured in the brochure.
