We contacted Armor fence for a quote to install a privacy fence on one side of our yard. Seymour (Manassas) came by on Saturday 3/16 and spent quite a bit of time going over what we wanted. It wasn't rocket science but Seymour took the time to answer all of our questions. We received our reasonable estimate 24 hours later. This was our first estimate and we had 3 others scheduled. Once we received all of the other estimates we decided to go with Armor Fence. On 4/4 the installers arrived along with Seymour to make sure everything was set the way we wanted it. This company's customer service is HORRIBLE! We were assigned Tim McGuckin as our Design Consultant and he was a nightmare to work with - attempting to price gouge us with tens of thousands of dollars of extra material and labor we did not request (e.g., we asked for wood and he kept pushing composite, he inserted several thousands of dollars worth of lighting and other electrical components that were not requested or required) and trying to justify his extras by citing county requirements that were not accurate for the scope of work we were looking for. When asked to modify his quote to reflect the work we requested, he initially refused then came back with a revised quote magically cutting over $20K. At this point, we contacted the office to request a new Sales representative to work with because we simply did not trust Tim. We also asked to speak with the Sales Manager to discuss our concerns further. The receptionist, Emma, made no attempt to assist us or address our concerns. She just forwarded our request back to Tim, who then refused the work. Unfortunately, our experience with this company is extremely negative. The sales representative we met seemed more interested in his commission than providing an accurate quote to his customer and the office staff seemed indifferent or oblivious to assisting with our concerns. Additionally, Tim himself indicted that the skill and knowledge of Armor Fencing is lacking as he is the "only one in the company experienced enough to quote [our project]." (For clarity, our project was putting a wood porch with a gazebo on an existing single family home - not complicated). I reached out to Armor Fence for a deck, porch and fence estimate based on their good reviews. I spoke with Emma who scheduled an appointment with Steve for March 30th. Steve contacted me and says he is unable to do the 30th due to scheduling conflict. We then came up to meet today, the 27th at 3:30. I rushed home from work to make that appointment which is rare for me to leave before 4. I called Steve at 4 to check in on time and no answer. I called back the office and they tell me Steve is busy and not in office so they cannot transfer me to him. Usually in the past with other companies, the main office would call the sales rep or at the very least give me a call back after speaking with him to atleast let me know if Steve is running late. If Steve couldnt make it today, he could have texted, emailed or called me letting me know that he cannot make it. read more

The installation was started and completed quicker that I expected. Avoid Armor Fence of Northern Virginia. The company does not care about their customers, the salesperson is incompetent and untrustworthy, and the management is useless. When I met with the salesperson on my small townhouse fencing project, I explained in great detail, including the personal reasons, on how we wanted the slats on a board-on-board style fence to be close enough so as to be a private fence. Another company had explained how it was done and he agreed to install our fence this way. Imagine my surprise when I got back on install day and the slats were the regular spacing with views into the yard. When I complained, I got back the excuses that it was a great fence, met HOA requirements, was beautiful, looked just like the brochure and eventually that it met the contract requirements (which were a very basic description). He offered to correct the job if I paid the costs (to fix their error). Several times I brought up the commitment he made to me and our specific requirements - and never a response or rebuttal that he didn't make that commitment - which goes to show he knows he screwed up and didn't do his job. When I escalated to management, no response. Well, I did hear from Management once. During the installation process, he called to berate me about how their crew had been turned away because other work was going on and this costs them money. I explained I never agreed to that date, no one on asked to see me at the site, and no one ever contacted me to schedule it. His response - they sent an email! I sent him the email I eventually found in the Junk folder which includes a statement that a response is needed to confirm the date. No surprise - no apology or regrets for the error on their part. Their web site promises: - Good Planning: Everything Starts with Planning. (Not done) - Experienced and Equipped: We have been doing this for decades. (Didn't help this time) - Happy Clients: You won't be unhappy, we promise. (Definitely not) - We stand by our work: We understand how important your home is. (Only if I pay) So yes, my fault in not noticing the contract didn't include any information on the spacing. I trusted the salesperson to deliver on his commitments, do his job and communicate the requirements. I also had misplaced faith in the overall professionalism and integrity of the salesperson and the company. They know they screwed up on this small job and failed to deliver to their commitments. read more

I hired Armor Fence to secure an existing wooden fence on a rental house I own. I decided to check on the work the day the repairs were scheduled. The two workers were pleasant enough, but neither could speak any English, and they were digging a hole for a post on the wrong side of the fence. I managed to stop them while I called the office to explain the problem. Apparently someone then called them to give them directions in Spanish. Then I noticed that they were making other repairs on the wrong fence segment. I decided I better stay to try to supervise them -- 2 hours of my time. However, I could only observe one of them during that time while the other worker was working on securing that segment of fence bordering the driveway. Within 3 months of the "repairs" that segment near the driveway fell down crashing into the car of one of my tenants. read more

I called around asking for quotes. By far the cheapest and most responsive was Armor Fence. Jeff and his team were responsive by phone call, email, and text as needed. We decided to go with black ornamental fence and gates on each side of the house. On one side it was going to be a double gate. It turns out after they installed it, the gate wasn't exactly flush with each other due to uneven sloping ground. They allowed us to swap to another gate and we went with another single gate. I received a quote in May 2021. Same month as my neighbor with precisely the same dimensions and conditions as me. For reasons that can't be explained away by lumber prices, she received a much lower quote. When I asked about it, Armor tried to explain it by stating she received her quote earlier. But this doesn't explain how Armor's competitors were able easily beat the quote they gave me even though they are subject to the same spikes in lumber prices. If you don't know someone or have some kind of baked-in advantage you can't get a fair price with some companies. Additionally, I arrived home moments before our quote was supposed to take place and there were two estimators, both of which were parked in our two numbered parking spots. One moved to a neighbor's and then looked at me as if asking for approval, so I let him know it was my neighbor's spot. He just replied "well I won't be there long." There is visitor parking on the street that is very close. All other vendor and contractors have understood this without explanation. He then said, "will they be home soon?" Very unprofessional. Note - We live in Montgomery County and Armor Fence has extended their service area into Maryland. We hired Armor to build a 5 foot wood fence around our small backyard in anticipation of getting a dog. Some neighbors had used them and found their work to be good. I got multiple quotes from Armor and other companies. Armor's quote was in the running. They were very easy to work with to get a few additional flourishes built into the fence. They did their work exactly on time and in the time they estimated. I worked with Bob through the whole process and he as great; highly responsive, straight talking, very pleasant to work with. After a little time some of the wood post caps cracked, and they responded almost immediately to check them out and replace them with no hassle. We'll use them again when we need more fencing work. read more

I am giving 3 stars because the Operations Manager Dean did the appropriate thing and replaced 56 poats and 2 crossboards that should have never been installed. Dean and the lady who answered the phone in the office seem to be customer service oriented which is more than I can say for the salesman Kris who stopped replying to messages once the fence was installed and there were major issues just 3 weeks after installation. He never disclosed thwt they use appearance grade lumber that is purchased in bulk, and there is zero quality control performed by the insatallers. They just put up the wood and pickets regardless of what they look like. This is our third experience in Lake Ridge with having a pressure treated pine fence installed, and this was the only time we have encountered this issue with poor quality. One of these fences was installed in 2018 which is only 5 yesrs ago, so the excuse of there being better wuality in the 90s doesn't work for that one. I had a fence installed with modified deck work (added stairs and a gate to the existing structure). I was not pleased with the work performed by this company. They do not give theirs customers a courtesy call or follow up on when the work will be performed. I sent several emails asking for an update. The job was broken into two separate teams, so I wrote multiple checks for the entire job. They would not provide an estimate for repair of an existing vinyl fence on my property. They showed up unannounced, and the crew left cigarette butts on the deck and yard. They installed a rail over a bird feeder I had. They stole plywood from my property, and I had to all a manager in order to get it returned- they "thought it was trash". One month after the install was complete, the gate latch came apart due to poor construction and workmanship. I will not recommend this company in the future. read more

My hats off to Armor Fence and specifically Keith Brantner. I called Keith wanting to get a quote from at least 5 different companies. Keith was my first call. He said he could meet me at 10 a.m. I unfortunately I had to be at work. He asked what time I needed to leave the house which was 7:00 a.m. he pulled up at 5:50 a.m. ready to go. That speaks volumes and was a good indicator to me that my business was important to him. I also told him I wanted a good fair price with quality parts and that I don't care to haggle and go back and forth. He quoted me 1 price, didn't make up any discount schemes and play the salesman part. After I received all my quotes and realized I could get the job done cheaper by using less quality products than Armor (a competitor used that wording) Armor came in right in the middle with my budget. Install crew left a lot of trash behind, including nails and screws. No follow up after the deck was complete. I have little kids and they pick up whatever they see. These guys did a small fence for me on a townhome in in Springfield VA July of 2013 and did a great job for a great price. The guy I dealt with was Steve Whetsel, and he was a good guy. So I called them back to do another fence this year. We agreed on a price and a date, and I confirmed it several times over email. The date came and went, and no fence. I contact Steve to see what the deal was, and he said (via email, so there's a record) that they were swamped and my fence would be done absolutely, without fail on 18 July 2014. You guessed it. No fence, and no contact from Steve. It's really too bad. They did a good job the first time and they had guaranteed repeat business. Guess they have more work than they need. At this point, I don't care what Steve's promises or prices are. I'll do the fence myself before I pay Armor to do it. read more

We had a lengthy install delay due to inventory supply and inaccurate measurements. Every company deals with issues outside their control, and every company makes mistakes. How a company resolves these issues is what differentiates a good one from a bad one. Not only did Dean at Armor Fence communicate regularly with me, he showed empathy throughout the process and ultimately took great care of me. He even called me the day after the install to see how everything went. Most of these installs go off without a hitch. When they don't, you want to work with a company that will take care you. I had my double fence gate replaced by Armor fence in November since they originally installed the whole fence in 2010. The repair wasn't under warranty but I thought that since I wanted the gate to match, going with the original company was the best option. Matt is very responsive but the wood is cheap wood. Like cheap Lowe's wood. When I complained of the wood warping after 3 months I was told to just go get some wood from Lowe's or Home Depot to fix the problem. Matt said he would install and replace them at a cost to me. I said no. I will not use this company and I will be removing the armor fence placard so they don't have free advertising as well. When you pay premium price for a fence you expect premium wood. My Dad built a deck for me with premium wood. No warping. We also used screws on our deck and the gate boards armor fence replaced were placed on the frame with nails. Bad craftsmanship period. read more

So not happy with these folks. I got a fence installed 2 years ago. Wooden with wooden gate. As well as some chain link gate replacements. Communication and follow up were marginal at best. About 6 months ago I needed them to come back and fix (which I was glad to pay for) the gate, which kept coming out of balance and not shutting properly. I had a good experience with Armor Fence. Brian was great to work with helping us understand our options. We asked him for every possible type of fence quote and he was always quick to provide us with what we asked. We had several other estimates from other companies and Armor was by far the most responsive and had the better price, and the only company to follow up after a quote was provided. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 is because of some frustration on my installation date being changed several times. Delays were caused by weather, however I think communication on when to expect the installers, or that they were running late would have eased the frustration. I have a flagstone patio where posts are embedded making the job more difficult; nevertheless, they jackhammered specifically where necessary to produce a seamless fence, leaving the flagstone intact.
