I really cannot share enough good words about my experiences with Lion's Fence. Richard, as others noted, is very responsive. We contracted them for two jobs, one to install three-board estate fencing around the street-facing side yard, and a second job to install a six-foot solid board privacy fence enclosing the rear. Both jobs were done quickly and impressively. Both times neighbors not only came out to admire the work, but also to compliment and ask after who did it. The pricing is highly competitive. Overall I'm happy with the result. We had Lion's fence build a split rail fence with wire, and they did a good careful job. The work was done quickly, the fence was laid out straight, the workers were careful of the property line, the wiring is tight to the ground, and overall it looks great. They did a custom style of gate which turned out nicely. The price was good and ultimately they started about 2.5 weeks after I gave my deposit. Overall, I'm very happy with the work and would use them again. The only reason I'm knocking a star is I had to stay on the owners case to get the work done in the timeframe he promised. When I cut him the deposit check, he promised he'd follow up and schedule the work to start the next day when he got to the office, and it would probably be two weeks. What followed was two weeks of emails where he wouldn't respond, promised to again schedule me the next day but didn't, said he had to wait on materials to schedule, said he had to delay because of the weather, etc. With a fair amount of pushing on my part, he did deliver the work in roughly the timeframe he originally stated, but he blew a lot of smoke up my butt in the meanwhile. read more

In short: this company does quality work and honors its warranty. We contracted Richard Leitch and Lions Fence to install 30 feet of fence and two gates at a cost of $2500. The installation of the fence occurred without incident and the quality of work was excellent. Four weeks after the installation one of the upright posts began to split and swell, a normal phenomenon. However, the swelling caused a gate to no longer close. Mr. Leitch honored his warranty and sent a crew to make the necessary repair. He was easily reachable by email. We spent approximately $4000 to have a ~3-4 foot picket-style fence around the perimeter of our backyard installed in August 2019. Despite delays in starting the work, a lag in communication/response, and accidentally ordering an additional door (for which we weren't charged, thankfully), we were generally happy with the work. The price tag seemed steep but we were willing to pay for quality products and careful installation. Fast forward to August 2020: several clips/connectors from the fence have popped off, creating gaps in the fence. Despite repeated emails to Lion's Fence over the course of two months, we have yet to receive the name of the company that supplied the fencing materials so that we could order the missing parts directly from the supplier and fix the fence ourselves. (Note: We did not ask Lion's Fence to fix the fence, even though it has been barely a year since installation.) He came right out and provided a quote. I got three other quotes, but Richard's was the best by far. Richard was also willing to work with me on both aesthetics and function. I wanted a horizontal fence that I had seen online (and on his website) and I also really wanted the fence to be FLUSH with the ground (so that my new dog could not escape. Richard and his guys spent extra time to make sure that the fence was flush with the ground - they had to cut special boards to fit on the bottom of the fence because my yard is on a hill. Don't trust Lion's Fence. We hired them because of the good Yelp reviews and their price was lower than other quotes we received. However, even though they said the fence would match the color of our neighbor's fence next to it, the one they installed for us had a very strong green tint and green and black stamps all over it. When I complained the next day, they said the green color is typical for pressure treated wood, and will fade within a few months. Fast forward 3 months, the color has barely faded (and the stamps look exactly the same), and now they're saying it'll take another 9-12 months. They're also blaming Covid, which I understand has made the supply chain more challenging, but doesn't excuse them from using wood that looks terrible on the fences they install. It's on them to quality control their materials. I haven't seen a single other new fence that looks like ours. And when I asked recently if there's anything they can do to make up for this tacky looking fence in my yard, they showed almost no concern for the situation and just offered a 5% discount on a future project (as if I'd consider ever hiring them again). Richard was great to deal with, listened to what I wanted to do (horizontal fence) and sent photos of previous work done. Came out and gave me a quote for a new fence and removal of my old fence, and I was impressed with how he described his work that I went with them despite a couple lower quotes from elsewhere. His crew showed up on time on install day, worked through the muggy summer day removing the old fence. They put up with me coming in behind to clear out any brush from between my and my neighbor's fence. When I said I'd like the plank width and spacing to be a certain way, they were all ears and did it just how I wanted it, with some constructive feedback on what would and wouldn't work. It's been a few years (sorry for the late review!) but I wanted to give them their due. The fence still looks great, the cedar is a nice silvery color now. read more

Ok, I just have to say, the customer service by Lion's is amazing! (See my previous reviews for details on pricing and all that junk). Our wonderful builder decided to install new sod around our Lion's fence. Brilliantly, they opened the gate...installed the new dirt and sod in our backyard....closed the gate... then piled more dirt and sod on the other side of the gate. Brilliant plan so now it effectively created a grass barrier which made it impossible to open up the gate! Sheepishly, for the 3rd time, the fiance emailed Richard at Lion's fence and explained what happened. A week later, Richard sent a crew out, and they sawed off the bottom of our gate so now we can open it above the brand new sod. And he didn't charge us. Acceptable fence for the price. We asked about a fence for the backyard to keep the dog in; they put in a nice looking raw pine wooden fence with scalloped top bit. Issues: The bottom didn't quite meet the ground in a few places on a slope, but loose dirt was piled up to hide the gaps... that bit bugged me. Like I'm not going to notice? If I did miss the gaps, the dog would have gotten out first time I tried to let her loose. I'll have to do some extra work to close the rather large gaps, and I'm not sure what that fix will take. The fence exterior will be impossible to paint, stain, or otherwise protect from rot and carpenter bees where it goes really close to the other fence, but I guess that's normal. I'm cool with them ripping out the ivy along the fence line but they took out some shrubs/small trees too and that was unexpected and uncoordinated. Would have been nice to be asked. The posts are raw wood sunk in the soil. I asked beforehand how long it would last, and was reassured it would be solid for years. We'll see. In their defense I did not contact them with follow up complaints or give them a chance to mitigate. But the dirt kicked up to hide the gaps thing really made me irked, and I don't like doing any follow ups while actually angry, so, mediocre review it is. read more

They performed a seemingly adequate job for an average price--- BUT be advised there will be NO follow through with the warranty when something comes up. We hired them to install a 6 ft wood privacy fence on a half acre property a year ago. The cost came to about 8000$- the initial communications and estimate were all prompt and clear, so we hired them. We were glad they were able to complete the project in a fairly short time frame- within 2-3 weeks of initial contact. The work took just a day for the crew to complete. Initially we were satisfied. Be aware however if you have children or pets there will be lots of small debris including nails and other sharps left behind. A few months later I contacted them not once but twice to request repair of a few popped boards as well as the bigger nuisance- a door that jams up and scrapes against the concrete, making it quite difficult to open and close. I never received a single word back from them. So a year later we still have a fence door that requires lifting and dragging to open. Also, my husband is irked by the fact that the door handle was not installed straight- just a cosmetic issue but another sign there isn't attention to detail in the work. UPDATE- After writing this review the owner did contact us via Yelp and a repairman came out to inspect the jammed door within just a few days. A couple days after that he came by and did repair this problem as well as dealt with an issue with the other fence door. When I pointed out these double doors were askew however he stated that is just normal. But I'm thankful that opening the single door is finally no longer a two handed task! read more

Needed a new wooden gate door for our brick fence. Requested an estimate directly via email to Richard using the email address on their website. After a week with no reply, I requested a quote again, this time through Yelp. After nearly another week passed, I finally got a reply from Anna that our ZIP code is "outside their service area" -- even though our home is located in the same county, just 14 miles away from their business (a 30-minute drive), and well within their expansive service area map on Yelp. When I pointed this out to Anna, she replied that their service area map on Yelp is wrong and that they are unable to update it. UPDATE: Anna replied immediately to my negative review on Yelp, but didn't address the substance of my complaint. I requested twice -- politely, each time -- an estimate for a simple project. I heard nothing from my first request. The second request took nearly another week for a response. While I appreciate that her response was in the evening on a Friday night, it was still days after my SECOND request for a quote and I found it impossible to believe that their service area excludes a home in the same county as their business location. Anna blamed an out-of-date Yelp service area map on the misunderstanding. HOWEVER, the non-Yelp website for Lion's Fence includes an FAQ page with the question: "What areas do you serve?" Their answer: "All areas of Northern Virginia including Fairfax County, Alexandria County, Arlington County, Prince William County, and Loudoun County. This includes cities of Aldie, Alexandria, Arlington, Annandale, Ashburn, Bristow, Broadlands, Burke, Centreville, Chantilly, Clifton, Del Ray, Fairfax, Fairfax City, Fairfax Station, Falls Church, Gainesville, Great Falls, Hamilton, Haymarket, Herndon, Langley, Lansdowne, Leesburg, Manassas, Manassas Park, McLean, Middleburg, Nokesville, Oak Hill, Oakton, Purcellville, Reston Town Center, Round Hill, South Riding, Springfield, Sterling, Sterling Park, Tysons Corner, Vienna and many more areas!" OK, here is a review from a real consumer... I recently moved to Lake Ridge from Washington, DC. I needed a fence quote for my shining new house because my dog likes to wander. I turned to Yelp! to try and find local fencing contractors. Based on the reviews here, you'd think that this fence company was top notch and responsive. Not so. In fact, the existing reviews don't even look real. Plain and simple, the one star is due to me calling this company numerous times back in October only to be greeted with a voicemail box. I left a few voice messages because I really wanted to shop some estimates and see if I could make an expensive job more competitive. Lion's Fence didn't even bother calling me back. For all of the rave reviews, I need to mix in one that explains not to waste your time unless you like being frustrated by calling a voicemail box and delaying the job thinking that you'll get in touch with them. So maybe Lion's Fence is truly a solid company. Unfortunately, they never gave me the opportunity to give them any business since they have zero customer service and wasted my time. All I can say is the workmanship is poor. My fence posts were not buried to a reasonable depth, so my entire fence has become a big sail in the wind during storms. In addition, I had to place a 2x4 between the gate posts due to sagging. I recently contacted several fencing companies to get quotes to replace an old, rotting split rail fence around our property. The first four companies did a good job putting together quotes although each tried to "upsell" us (I have no problem with this), but two of the companies did have the attitude that it would almost be a privilege for us to use their company. Then we met Richard from Lion's Fence in Clifton. Richard was polite, professional, and quickly prepared our estimate. He didn't try to upsell us although when we asked he was extremely knowledgeable about the different material options, fence styles, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. In fact, he discouraged us from a more expensive fence option we were considering as he explained a more basic option would work just as well as the more expensive one and would look better. Richard's quote was at least $500 less than the other companies' quotes and, in one case, several thousand cheaper. We agreed to the contract and scheduled an installation date. On the day of the tear down of the old fence and installation of the new fence we received a call from Richard 15 minutes before his crew was to arrive letting us know they'd be there in a few minutes. The crew arrived about five minutes later, greeted us politely, reviewed the job with us, and quickly got to work. I'll skip the boring details, but wow, what a job. The crew was professional, worked quickly, and did a fantastic job. They were meticulous in what they did to make sure things were right, but worked quickly and efficiently. Our old fence was down and hauled away and our new fence was installed in just a few hours. It is beautiful. Overall, I cannot recommend Richard and Lion's Fence work enough.
