We have spent thousands, over three years, on two HVACs that were under warranty when we bought the house. They've have to install expensive items because something either "failed" or "wasn't available as a part". Every single time they've come out for the newly installed attic unit, it works for a few hours or a day and then breaks down again. When two technicians arrived wearing masks I was thankful they were so thoughtful of Covid precautions. To do a simple cleaning of our dryer vent was anything but simple. They discovered a major clump of dryer lint that needed to be removed, not only as a fire precaution, but for allowing our dryer optimum work performance. With more more effort than I expected they had to remove the clump through the attic and discovered the outside vent was much smaller than it should be. Thank you, Reliable Air! I've had several HVAC companies work on my AC over the years, and Reliable is by far the most fairly priced and thorough HVAC company in San Marcos that I've worked with. 3 of their technicians have worked on my system, they always show up in the time frame they say they will and give you a call beforehand. They haven't tried to pitch me a new system even though my AC is kind of cobbled together from new and old components. They actually test parts before trying to sell you new ones. And when my AC continued to fail even after they had changed some components, they continued to send out technicians to work on it until the issue was completely resolved, they did not charge me another cent for it. All in all I am very impressed with the quality of service I've received and their prices are not any higher than the other companies I've used who put far less effort into their customer service. read more

Please read this entire review and you decide if you want to use this company. My mother came home after a few days away and AC was not working at all. We called Reliable Air that afternoon and they came out in the early evening to check out the unit. After an evaluation, they recommended a complete unit replacement (inside and out), including duct work. For the record, this unit is 6 years old. They stated the system was fried (electrical short) and the duct work had gaps and was poorly done. They left that evening with the AC still not working and said they would start work the next morning. My mother dealt with it for one evening with fans, etc. Luckily, the weather cooperated. For a 1700 sqf, single story home their initial estimate was $14,000.00. The next morning, they provided a written quote per our request. The quote was not detailed nor itemized and was slightly above the $14K amount originally stated. We stated we were seeking a second opinion and they had the audacity to say "OK, we'll send another one of our techs to check it out". We politely declined and stated the second opinion would come from another AC company. We called a second company and they arrived by noon. By 12:30, the unit was up and running. The new tech quickly checked the unit and determined it required a capacitor replacement; which technically considered is a very easy fix. Total repair cost was $300, which I still think is an inflated price but it solved the problem and is much better that $14,000.00! From my perspective, Reliable Air attempted to take advantage of an older person who may not seriously question what an "expert" recommends. Fortunately, she communicated this issue to us and we were able to intervene and assist. What's most upsetting is that the solution could have been made the evening of the service call with a long term recommendation to upgrade parts of the unit, at a later time. That may have secured our business for the future, rather than lose a customer for life and receive this type of review. Thanks for listening. read more

Moving in August, in Texas, is never pleasant, but it's definitely the worst when the air conditioner only cools off half the house! They had a nice young man come to my house. Tried to sell me a $400 mold machine to go in unit and told me it would cost me $1200 to have unit lifed and a second drip pan installed. Told me it was now working great but pressures were way too high and I would need to pay several hundred dollars to have some removed. As we looked at the control I said maybe the filters the problem. He said yes that could be I showed him the filter which was extremely dirty-he says oh that might be the problem. He changed it and then said he'd recheck the pressures and then informs me they are fine and don't need to be altered. An hour or so latter it starts water starts coming down through the aircon duct. I call Reliable and they inform me someone will be there shortly. Then they call back and say they had spoken to the manager and it was not their problem I needed to call the people who installed it, I informed them they were in Houston. It had never leaked that way. I argued that it happened after their guys had been in attic and pulled it apart to inspect. They refused to send someone out despite me begging. Another air con guy came over and found the ducts had not been retaped. He also cleared the line which was blocked. I feel they tried to rob me off money and didn't even look at the simplest solution. then wouldn't return to see if something had been knocked or put back incorrectly by their guy. My neighbor who manages 18 airconditioners looked extensively at the system and determined something had been done wrong as the system had never leaked in the 1 1/2 years. He also immediately noted that the new filter was the incorrect size which their tech had not noticed. He went down to reliable air and talked with the manager asking him to please send someone to see what happened and they plain right refused. I cannot believe they feel no responsibility at all to check as to what has happened after their tech opened up the system took pictures and stuck their sticker on my machine with their contact number. read more

Yesterday we had Reliable Air from San Marcos Texas, install a new air conditioning unit for our home. They worked in the hot hot weather and had to go in the attic as well, they did an excellent job and we are very pleased about the work they did for us in installing our new AC unit. The installers names are Andrew C. & Billy R. , We ere very pleased and happy about their great job they did the installation of our central air unit . They installed a new thermostat and explained how to set it and use it efficiently. They were very professional and knowledgeable about everything. I highly recommend this company to do your air conditioning installations or repairs for your home . The one thing I thought they did that made me upset, they did an awful job on painting ( which they did with spray paint and they ran out of paint and didn't offer to to finish the center of the board that is the pull down to the attic , so that part is dirty with black Smugges ! The cost is extremely high. Edgar is professional and knowledge. A rat/or mouse had made a hole in the ventilation, Edgar located the problem within 5 minutes. He patched up the hole with A/C silver tape and insulation. 10 minutes total. I even helped with illuminating with flashlight where he was patching. Total time start to finish 20 minutes. Then I get presented with a bill for $422. Since 20 minutes is one-third of an hour, that equates to $1288. per hour. Wow. I protested the high cost. He said , it wasn't him, the company sets the cost. I'll never use them again. read more

Toby was the technician that came out to do the tuneup on my AC. He was exceptionally personable and knowledgeable. He took the time to answer all my questions, and gave me different options for how to take care of the issues my AC had. He performed the work quickly and in a professional manner. This place is a hot mess. Schedule service on my HVAC system and the day of the appointment they cancel. A week later they try to arrive before the schedule appointment told the technician no you can't be here before 1:00 (appt was schedule from 1 - 3). The technician checks my system out says it's in good working order. I tell him that the primary drain line is clogged please unclog it. Tells me its all good. Pay him $199. fast forward to a day later and the primary drain line is still clogged. Very disappointed. Not interested in continue an business relationship. They found so many issues including many things that were not up to code, and a hole had been drilled so that carbon monoxide had been leaking into our home. Poorly run operation and a very rude service manager named Tom. We scheduled an install and upon arrival the service tech said he needed more manpower and would get back with us. I received a call from Tom and he stated that they didn't do what we had previously scheduled to be done and said he would refer us to another company because they were too busy. This was all on a Friday prior to Fourth of July weekend. We never heard back from anyone and that left my expecting wife and family without a/c until the following week. I have used this company in prior years and an obvious buyout has taken place since. Inadequate people in positions that they should not be in and this will simply cause others to experience what my family has experienced. Anything but Reliable! Called them out for a quote on a new system for a room addition and waited a week before calling to see if they had any numbers for me. I had to again explain what I wanted quoted and was assured they would send me an email with a quote. I have not heard anything from "Not so Reliable" and would not recommend them - total waste of my time! Sorry to say that I am not a fan of Reliable. Giving them 1 star because this system will not allow 0 stars! They are not worthy of 1 star in my opinion. They installed 3 new units at my home in Wimberley when I had it built 3 years ago. With the install came a prepaid PMA. In the last three years we have had to have one of the units recharged every year. There is obviously a slow leak that they cannot find. Their solution is to just recharge the system when it freezes up so that they can get the service call fee and sell me Freon 410A at $116 per pound! They have no interest in fixing the problem because they want to continue to get more money out of me. By the way, Green Electric charges a reasonable $35 per pound for Freon 410A! They came out last week under the guise of doing our free (pre-paid) PMA only to tell me after the fact that the PMA on two of my units had expired so I would have to pay for the service call. The technician found no issues with the units other than to advise me that the capacitor on one unit was "going out". They then proceeded to replace it at a cost of $282 plus the charge for the service fee. So, my seemingly "free" PMA visit ended up costing $420! Oh, and by the way, I went to Lowes and found the exact same capacitor for $30! We told them that we were getting "system faults" on our main unit and the technician told us that he was unable to diagnose the faults because he did not have the equipment to read the error codes. Remember, this is a unit that they sold me initially and installed. I'd think they would be able to service equipment they sell! During the so called PMA visit, the technician did not check the filters. Turns out they were dirty and just needed to be replaced which I had to do myself. The filters for the three units cost me around $50 total so it seems resonable to say that Reliable would have charged me in excess of $450 for filters based on the exorbitant mark up on their other products. This company has no intention of making good on their shoddy install of a brand new system, and they brazenly rape their customers on parts and service calls. Shame on me for letting them take advantage of me. Maybe this post will help others avoid the same horrible experience! If you want excellent service by someone who is knowledgeable and fair, call Green Electric. You will be pleasantly surprised! read more

Reliable Air installed 3 (2, 3, & 4 ton units) Carrier 20 SEER high efficiency units in our 4100 sq. ft. house in Wimberley in Oct. 2015. We were replacing existing Frigidaire 12 SEER units that were 15 years old. The replacement included the air handlers and thermostats for each unit. I compared prices with another local well established company, both companies with very good reputations, & RA came in with the best price. I also purchased a 10 year extended warranty which includes labor & material. The 2 man crew that installed these 3 units were great and worked hard and steady. They were on time each of the 3 days that was required to install all of this equipment. These units are QUIET! The big thing is our electricity savings each month. I started a spreadsheet right away and to date, this is a savings of over 30% each month! Reliable comes out twice a year to fully inspect each unit, change the filter if required, and make sure condensate drain lines are open. No problems at all other than one of the thermostats had to be reset due to a power outage. This repair was to unplug the thermostat and plug it back in. No other problems to report in the 14 months we have had them in service. I discussed this with a neighbor and he purchased 2 of these same units recently. This is excellent equipment and good folks to work with. Glad we found them. Larry read more
