This is a nice REI that is close to the airport. Friendly, helpful service. A great selection, including clearance and re-supply items. Lifetime Membership with co-op. Rewards with annual purchase totals. I came for a rain jacket and got exactly what I needed with great assistance to answer my questions. Dressing rooms available. Moderate pricing with excellent quality. read more

Obviously REI is well known for having great outdoor products. While expensive, there are certain things you can't cheap out on anyway. What I didn't enjoy was the checkout experience with the very pushy clerk to get their "co-op" rewards. He even asked us when our last trip in was (2 years ago) and we mentioned we don't even think we've made a purchase here. We were getting one item and this guy went on a long speech about the program and judged us for having a Costco card? Weird he's even looking in my wallet as I'm trying to pay, and only made me want that rewards card less. read more

Went in the evening on 8/28 to buy shoes before a trip. Was discussing my goals with my fam who came with me and the woman working the shoe section was chatting with someone but somehow heard me utter my shoe size and practically had me figured out by the time I made up my mind about what I wanted. Also saw me eyeing another shoe and ran and grabbed that one as well. Very attentive and nice experience, will definitely return!! read more

It's REI so that automatically gets you four stars in my book. What I specifically like about this store is the customer service. I came in to look in for some new cots for an upcoming camping trip. The associate that helped me not only had great product knowledge but he opened up one of the cots to let us try it out. We talked through some great tent options that would accommodate the cots (we were in the market for a new tent). I was impressed that the associate was able to take the time to walk us through all the options. I have always been impressed by REI and their customer service but this store in particular, bravo all around. read more

REI in Tukwila is hands down one of my favorite outdoor stores in the area. Every time I walk in, I feel like they're just as excited about the outdoors as I am. The store is super well-stocked, clean, and organized, which makes it easy to find whatever you need -- from hiking gear and trail shoes to camping equipment and last-minute travel essentials. What really makes this location stand out is the staff. Friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile to help you find the right fit, offer advice, or share their own experiences. Whether you're a hardcore adventurer or just getting started, they make you feel welcome. Bonus points for plenty of parking and being right by Southcenter Mall, so you can easily make a whole outing of it. Plus, the store layout is spacious and never feels overcrowded. read more

I went to the REI Tukwila store to return a defective item purchased online. After returning the item, I shopped around. I was there for almost 40 min and 2 floor staffs walked by me and did not bother to greet or ask me if I needed help. One of the male staff had extremely bad body odor which was not pleasant..... The only person that provided any sort of customer service was the security guy by the entrance. He was extremely professional with incoming and outgoing customers. The people on the floor could learn some customer service from him! This is the only reason I give a 2 star. If I ever need to go to a physical store, I'll go to the one Tacoma or Bellevue next time. I've had better experience at both locations. read more

I came in a week ago unsure about a good pair of running shoes to purchase. I have gone through several pairs without having a pair I love. I had the pleasure of meeting a gentleman named Scott who went above and beyond my expectations. Wow He measured my feet and the width as well and he gave me some solid advice to do every time I am trying shoes. I was so pleased I left with 2 different pairs of shoes! I haven't taken off the shoes since I purchased them, it's like I am running on clouds. They are amazing quality and just had to come back and leave a review after a great run in my new FAV shoes of all time that he recommended. Thank you! Go to him for all your shoe needs. read more

A very small REI but they have a good collection of essentials. Please keep in mind that, as they aren't a typical whole REI store, they won't carry everything. The collection is very limited. I am not an outdoor person at all but I truly appreciate the store. They have a great staff, and all essentials required for outdoor activities. I usually drop by here when coming to Renton. I usually browse their sale section, they have pretty good deals. There is an ample amount of parking in the complex. read more

Went to get a good pair of everyday boots and was helped by Moira (hope I spelled that correctly). Not cheap but what good pair of boots is. read more

I've been to this location several times now, and I always appreciate the customer service that they have here, but today was a step above - I went in just to browse some of their backpacks for a trip that I'm taking later on in the summer, fully not planning to commit to anything today. I ended up talking to several associates who asked if I had questions, and at first I was hesitant to really get into anything simply because I wasn't 100% sure. I ended up asking Giselle (I think that was their name!) and they asked me if I just wanted to do a full backpack fitting. Not only that, when I mentioned that I was thinking of one backpack, they told me that they had bought the pack for their brother and brought their experience with the bag while we were fitting it. They also realized the straps were too small on me, and went on a mission to find me the right size, just for the fitting! I mentioned that I wanted to get a specific color that they didn't have in stores, and they pulled up the product info for me so that I could order with the cashier up front (also a delight!) if I was interested for pickup. I didn't think that I would end up getting anything right away, but I was so thankful for Giselle for taking time to answer all my questions and get me sorted. A great store, and amazing customer service! read more

REI - Ghost bike - Bikes Near Me - Tukwila, Washington

In elementary school our class visited the Pioneer Farm Museum for an overnighter field trip. We brought our sleeping bags and flashlights. We slept on hay in a barn. I had never used an outhouse before. Honey Bucket, yes. A scary wooden shack, no. It was the first time I had ever gone "camping" without my family. Then in middle school our class went to Camp Seymour for the week. We stayed in cabins and did all the outdoorsy activities like canoeing and hiking. I enjoyed being around trees and fresh air. These field trips were fun and it was like a PNW rite of passage too: This is how we connect with nature. This is where we learn to respect our environment. This is our home and we must do our best to protect these resources. The FernGully movie I watched many years ago still resonates with me. We shopped at Big 5 and Sears because those were the closest and known places for recreational equipment at the time. REI became popular years later. REI started to become trendy when I was in my teens. We used to drive to the one off Eastlake then they opened a store in Tukwila. REI at Southcenter is pretty small compared to the flagship store but it still has good merch. It has free parking but be forewarned, the roads are pretty hectic during Christmas time. The store is clean and organized. I love the variety and selection of brands. Knowledgeable staff are there to assist with questions. They also offer classes if you're a beginner or want to learn more about the outdoors. Check it out online. REI is where I buy park passes, quality supplies, and comfortable clothing. My job doesn't require me to dress up anymore, so a lot of the stuff in my closet are things that protect me from the weather elements, stuff for the terrain, and equipment for safety (shoutout to my WTA and Search & Rescue buddies-you guys are my heroes!) REI has items for all recreational enthusiasts. My co-workers, friends, and fam are pretty outdoorsy. We fish on the coast. We dig for oysters in WA State Parks. We run in parks and we hike up mountains along the I-90 corridor. We embrace and prepare for the rain, sun, wind, and snow. I usually dress in layers. Good shoes, a backpack or messenger bag, and a water bottle are important things to have when you work downtown. Madison, James, and the Pike St. Hillclimb are brutal but they give you a pretty good workout. It's the end of August. I'll be breaking out the fall jackets, scarves, and gloves pretty soon. Gore-Tex has saved me many times at the 4th & Jackson bus stop. REI has always been there for me like that friend who's always got my back. Ohhh, there goes that Rembrandts song..."So no one told you life was gonna be this waaaay--clap, clap, clap clap!" read more

awful customer service. came in with my girlfriend and her sister to browse for hiking clothes and got no greeting at all. there was one older guy that just kept hovering over us at the shoe area and never said anything. like awkwardly staring at us. then when it came to checking out, our cashier was pushing the stupid membership onto my girlfriend making her extremely uncomfortable. some people don't know what "not interested" means. don't go to this one if you're looking for customer service, because it does not exist. read more

the service wasn't very good at all, there was one guy with longer hair whom I talked with in the hiking water area who was very nice and great service helping me with a patagonia jacket in the men's section. The other guy who helped me was in the shoes area, looked at me 3 times and avoided me up until he tried helping a man who pointed me out saying I was waiting first. He then said "oh ok" and walked over to me with a faded smile. Maybe it was just me but the service in there could be much better. read more

REI is one of my go to places when I'm looking for specific brand like North face and good quality high end outdoor gear or collection. I love the place. REI - Looking for hiking boots - Bikes Near Me - Tukwila, Washington

Stopped in knowing I needed hiking shoes but not sure which ones. An older gentleman assisted me. He listened to what I was looking for and brought out some recommendations. I also picked a few by eye and he brought those, also. I ended up choosing one of those he recommended. Spent the week hiking in them and am happy with my choice. He was knowledgeable and not pushy or hovering. I loved that. He actually went on break and another girl gave me more information on the shoes I was considering (Altra Lone Peak 8 Trail-Running Shoes). They are designed flat on purpose. So the first man to help me didn't see me purchase the shoes. I wanted him to know he did a great job but I don't know his name. The girl was awesome, too. Very informative. Recommend this store. I have been an REI member for DECADES- and I have never been pissed off in a store....Until tonight. So sadly I write this- as I really wanted quickly try on a pair of Kuhl capris- they were not inexpensive (as many things REI these days) but apparently this location closes fitting rooms half hour before closing- come back tomorrow... except flight leaves before opening in the AM... Not sure how long it takes you guys to try on a pair of pants- but it is NOT half an hour... Nice - guess REI does not need my hundred dollars and maybe my business any longer either. read more

My first contact at this store was a greeter at the door with probing questions and pushing membership. At this point, I haven't stepped foot in the store yet. I told him I was not interested in membership and that I was there to check out their bikes. He insisted someone come to me in the bike section with MORE questions. Two sales associates, tall white dude and a short white woman, walked up to me and were confused after I told them that I was JUST LOOKING. He replied, "So you're just looking at bikes and not actually getting one." Ouch! There must be a reason to visit this store in person because "just looking" is unacceptable. I've decided to start using my bike. I haven't owned a bike rack for awhile. We have a larger 4 bike hitch rack that fits your sufv, but nothing for my smaller car. I had done some research online and decided to pop into the store to get some advice before purchasing the rack. When I arrived, the greeter at the door asked if I was looking for something in particular and I told her the purpose of my visit. She radioed back to the bike staff and directed me to the area. I was met in the walkway and escorted to the right location. Unfortunately, my product was not on the shelf and it was in the back. The salesperson found it and a bike repair person told me that the website would give me exact instructions on how to set it up for my car model. It did require me to purchase an additional part, but I've used it once and it's a keeper. 5 stars for outstanding customer service and the tip regarding the custom instructions. I would have installed it based upon the standard instructions. read more

The ski service shop at this REI knows how to help a customer more than any other ski shop in the Pacific Northwest. When ALL other ski shops and REIs could not do a same-day binding mount, this one could. The ski technician, Jan (spelling? Pronounced "yawn") was personable, professional, and accommodating. Jan accepted my skis/bindings at 7:00pm and them mounted and waxed by closing at 8:00pm. No BS, no gimmicks--he said he could do it and he did. 10/10 would recommend. Now I'm making the extra drive here for all of my servicing needs. read more

The staff (especially Ms Patty Murphy look-a-like) could not care less. After chasing her down as she did everything within her powers to evade any customer, I asked her for help and she pointed in a few general directions and walked off. When I asked her for a size, without as much as even thinking about asking for my size or checking her stock, she waved me off and told me to goo to the downtown store. This store is clearly in dire need of better management..., or perhaps any management may help. It's insulting to spend this amount to be treated the way "and Murphy" did. Very unfortunate. read more

I came here on a Thursday afternoon to have a new inner-tube and set of pedals installed on my road bike. I was helped by a gentleman named Jan who noted the mechanics were booked until Monday. He filled out the paperwork and quoted that my bike would be repaired by Monday. He said to check out the store while he filled out the information. About 5 minutes later, he found me and said he would just fix my bike himself and have it ready within 30 minutes. After 30 minutes or so, he came and found me in the store to let me know the bike was ready. He greased my chain, aligned my brakes, and gave me a presta valve cap. Note that I only wanted an installation for pedals and a new inner-tube. However, he performed tasks found in a standard tune-up despite not being part of the initial quote (thank you sir!!!). I only paid for pedal installs, a new tube, and the tube install despite the extra efforts Jan put into my bike. Also, he gave me route advice on different trails nearby. Overall, I'm a happy man and Jan deserves recognition for his level of customer service that day. Also, if he didn't quote me on a 30 minute repair, I wouldn't have spent money on new goodies while lurking through the store. read more

Actually quite small but moderate amount of selection for a lot of the outdoor sports activities. There seems to be an associate in each area, and due to the small nature of the store, it's not hard to find anyone to help you. At least it wasn't hard for me. I think Fidel P. said all the associates asked if he needed help, but maybe they thought he was going to steal something....I kind of got that vibe too. But maybe they are just friendly and customer service driven. Also, I don't know if I over looked it, but I didn't see anything for kayaking or canoeing. Review is for my visit on 6/16/15. 5 stars! REI is the Nordstrom for the outdoorsman. Anything you need for outdoors sports, camping or living besides a vehicle is sold via REI. Prices are spendy though. Great pair of ladies sandles for $100, kids sandles for $50 or a Ghost bike for $1,100. There are some small products with lower prices. The selection at this store is big on the clothing and small on the other items. This was the first time my BFF and I had been to a REI store. As soon as we walked in, we were approached by Chad. Chad proved to be a superior salesman. Not only was he genuine, kind, and polite, he went out of his way to help us. I wanted to see the new Evrgn tent that you can see the night sky through, and when I asked if one was on display, Chad said no and offered to set one up just for us! He also walked over and got the tent then brought it to us instead of walking us to the product. I've never experienced any sales person in my entire life who brought the product to me. Chad had a tag on his green vest about being an instructor, and I asked him about that. He was happy to tell us that he teaches a few classes (I forgot which ones) as well for REI. He gave us info on the co-op as well - just $20 to join for life and get 10% back on anything you buy yearly plus special sales and coupons. A couple other employees asked how we were doing as we perused the store. Neither of us have had so many employees approach us in a retail setting. Bob also had a smile on his face! The store was very clean and well organized. Super impressed by this, along with the layout. Big, free parking lot. read more
