REI is the best sporting gear store I know for knowledgeable staff and knowledgeable service. These aren't people who have a job just to have a job; they clearly know about their products and most of them seem like outdoorsy, sporty people. Another reviewer was complaining that they used to allow a lifetime to be able to return something, which changed to a year, but that's still very generous compared with most stores I know that have a 30 day return policy. As an REI member, you also get a yearly dividend, and the amount varies based on how much money you spent on purchases. The prices are sky high, which is the only reason I don't give it a full 5 stars. The clothing in particular you can get somewhere else for pretty much the same quality. You might laugh at this if you don't share my experience, but I have gotten clothing at Walmart or Target for about the same quality (athletic wear that wicks away the sweat and is well-made) for way, way cheaper. But for things like Prana hiking pants, a wide selection of hiking shoes and boots, waterproof gaiters, camping gear, mummy sleeping bags, and hiking and backpacking backpacks where REI has been my go-to store for great quality that I don't find many other places. Sports Basement is good, too, but I find that the staff at REI (not just Dublin but other locations, too) are the most knowledgeable and usually very patient with helping you what you need. read more

I've been to this REI on rare occasions. Prior I was here to look for deals on water shoes and this past time was to pick up lift tickets for Sugar Bowl. It's not a busy REI but then again...what REI is? There's a small little parking lot in the front. What I like about this place is that it's quite bright and airy which sometimes I feel some REIs are a little bit cramped like Fremont. I think it's because it has super high ceilings. Everyone here is quite friendly but sometimes to a fault. The cashier was basically the only one doing checkouts and a line was forming behind me and someone had approached her for a bandaid. She had to stop everything she was doing to attend to her. It would've been nice if she had called someone to attend to her or get someone to handle the register. I needed a wind-proof cycling jacket since the weather has been less than ideal lately in the Bay. Came in about 5 minutes after opening today thinking i'd get a head start on the crowd. Boy was I wrong! The place was full of humans! There was a LOT of cycling apparel on clearance (30% off marked price). I managed to take an additional 20% off with my membership price so I had to get on it! They even carry White Lightning (Dry chain lube), which I can't get at Livermore cyclery anymore. I even managed to find a good pair of Pearl Izumi gloves that kept my paws warm on today's ride. I would recommend one to pay for the membership since members get 20% off any one item each visit and get 10% of their total purchases back each year as dividends. read more

What can one say about REI? I ride mountain bikes, hike, camp and snowboard. They have everything any outdoorsman or outdoorswoman could need. The quality of their products are great. Pricing is high but you get what you pay for. They offer free snowboard waxing while you wait. Great service and top notch products. read more

Love the options that they have for outdoor and sport attires. It's my first time to buy a bike at REI. We really liked the time and care they take to help our 2 toddlers pick out their big kid bikes. They provided us the option of doing a test ride at their back parking lot. The people who work at REI are there because they love what they're doing and have a real interest on the products that they represent. What happened to the friendly customer service? Placed an order online for curbside pickup. Arrived at one of the two designated parking spots for curbside pickup. Was waiting a bit, and so I decided to get out and just walk around the car. But, when the employees showed up and got closer to my car, one of them orders me to get back in my car. Not even explaining what their policy or procedure is. Just tells me to get back in if I wanted my item. The situation was similar to how a cop would probably instruct you to stay inside the car while they write up a ticket for a moving violation. How is accepting my pickup item while standing next to my car outside any different than walking up to a cashier inside the store to pay for an item? Probably even safer to accept my item outside than it is inside. read more

This store is great. Very well kept and clean. Staff is always nice and helpful. Only down side is they are a bit more expensive, but id rather pay more for quality apposed to just buying cheap junky stuff that doesnt last. Rei is the best for all the outdoorsy stuff read more

I waited in line for over an hour too and have pictures to prove it! I knew I would not get a gift card for how far back I was in line but the staff said there was a good chance I would get one of their signature water bottles. I was the third person in line NOT to receive a water bottle. : ( So sad, just my luck. Some one was nice enough to let me take a picture of their water bottle though. Furthermore, everything in the store was full retail in price. I know REI does not run sales that often but I thought they would have some kind of a deal going for grand opening day. On a plus note, the store is brand new, state of the art and the staff were overly excited and friendly. I'll be back of course because I like REI in general and they do sell good stuff. read more

I walked in on a mission, to find new hiking shoes! I had been wearing my old ones five years and they had started to hurt my feet. Also, they were high tops and waterproof, making for warm feet. While the warmth was great in NY, it was a bit much for CA. Having been to this store before I walked straight back to the shoe section. They were busy, but greeted me and told me they would be with me shortly. It was probably about five minutes later when they finished up with another customer and then I had someone to help me. I explained what I wanted, picked four styles and told the lady my size. Mostly the trying on of shoes went fast because nothing fit right. There was one pair of merrell's that seemed about right, but they only had a half size smaller than my size. Helpfully the sales clerk brought out a different pair of merrell's in my size so I could get a better idea on fit. Because they didn't have the shoes I wanted they looked in their system for the shoes and saw that Concord had one pair and Berkeley had three. I was told sometimes the one pair is false, so they wrote up a sheet with the name and number of the shoes so the people at the front could call Concord for me. The guy at the front was on hold, but kept an upbeat attitude and stayed on hold for a while. Luckily, they found me the shoes in Concord near where I live and put them on hold. They offered to ship to my address for free, but I declined because I didn't want to wait a week. read more

Never buy anything from this store and never ever ask for a gift from someone from REI. Came in to exchange an item that was too small and was a gift. They will do nothing unless you have a receipt even for an exchange when they saw you walk in the store with the item. I'm even a member who has never returned anything, but I didn't have "proof of purchase". Guess the over priced item goes in the trash. Lesson learned. read more

Had a great shopping experience here at REI today. I work at the San Diego location and enjoy seeing other stores in the Co-Op. I also did a little shopping for a new hiking shirt, and Molly was very helpful in outerwear, finding me a size that wasn't shown on the floor. Thanks Molly! Lots of associate touches, as I was politely approached in each department I visited. Action sports, camping, outerwear, and footwear. A really nice experience. Becca was my cashier and we briefly chatted about Escondido, where I am from. Very friendly here, but I don't expect anything less when I shop REI. Great location!! read more

To the team at the Dublin REI store, I thank you! Shopping during SIP is challenging enough to find the right item and coordinate for curbside pickup. The lounge chair item was available online for same day pickup and I awaited the email confirmation. I finally called the store to inquire and the team found my item and communicated with me all along the way. It was a bit of a scramble for curbside pick up and I was a few minutes late, but they made it all happen! This was a birthday gift for the following day, so I'm grateful to the Dublin team for rallying together. read more

Horrible bike department that does not know their products I went to REI today (Sunday, Sept 15, 2019) and the first thing I heard when I entered the store were two retail floor personnel complaining that the customers were only looking around the store and not buying anything. I went around the store twice and at no time did anyone ask if I needed help. They just ignored the customers. Finally I went to the bike department and talked to a man at REI and told him I was interested in bikes that have flat foot technology where your feet can touch the ground while you sit on the seat, but the seat is angled back so that your legs can fully extend while you pedal. The person who represented himself as the head of the bike department said in a puzzled way "I can lower the seats of all of our bikes. Not a problem." I repeated what I said above, emphasizing the bit about legs that can fully extend while you pedal, and the bike manager in a condescending manner said he had never heard of that type of feature and it must be a bike brand that is only available on rei.com. He had never heard of that feature. In their store there are several Electra bikes on the floor in the Dublin store that have that particular feature which are about 10 feet from where the manager was standing. Even though the store carries Electra bikes, apparently the staff are clueless about their features and specifications. After that awful experience I left the store and found the model I was looking for at Livermore Cyclery and bought it that afternoon. REI seems clueless about the bike brands they sell compared to Livermore Cyclery who actually has staff that know about their product line. read more

I really appreciate the staff's expertise at this store. I had to get hiking boots for a backpacking trip and the sales associate, Steven, spent lots of time with me ensuring I had the right fit and shoe. Also, the buckle on my backpack hip belt went missing two hours before I was about to leave on my trip- I was told to come down to the store with my pack. Tim and Kim found a replacement buckle and even put it on for me. This is the place to come if you need someone who has been/there done that -great customer service! read more

Pretty disappointed with the way we were treated when requesting and using fitting rooms. I got grief from a salesperson: I left a fitting room to find another size to try on, and as I was leaving another customer rushed up and asked politely "can I please use the room?" to which I replied Sure while holding the door. Then I went to find a different size and came back, found a salesperson and asked if they could let me into a free fitting room. They then knocked on the door of the room I had previously used and I stated that I'd let another customer use the room. The salesperson then told me that I was not supposed to do that and how it led to extra work for them and putting away clothes and so on. I was not comfortable and don't think I deserved a scolding. Next problem was when my son wanted to use a fitting room. He and I were standing near the rooms, had used the call button to request help getting in the room. The same salesperson came back to unlock the room and ignored my son's presence talking only to me! I had to tell them "he's the one who needs the room" to which the salesperson person just said "oh, ok just leave what you don't want in the room or hang it on the rack outside the room when you're done". They made no eye contact or acknowledgement of my son. I don't think we should be treated like this when we're paying high prices for the product here. Just a lousy shopping experience were we felt a basic lack of respect. REI should understand that many customers who are treated shabbily won't necessarily complain...they just won't come back. I did end up spending close to $200 that day and on reflection I feel like I should have just left the clothing on their return rack and left the store. Was excited to have a decent sport store in the Dub-world. Finally came to visit and was HUGELY disappointed at how small the store was and how limited the selection was. I was looking at getting a Osprey Aether 65 Pack in green. I called prior and was told it was in stock but when arrived they didn't even have the 65 Liter pack stocked. In an effort to take advantage of their current new membership of $50 or more purchase when applying for membership through the end of august I checked out their their garage sale area. There was a quarter dome air hammock that was discounted from $119.93 to $71.83. The only note was that it was sanitized. In the garage sale all sales are final and only for members. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH... Please check the contents fully before purchasing from sale garage. When I laid out the hammock it was missing the connecting cord, tree straps, and a tent peg (all originally included).the lack would basically makes this a nonreturnable $71.83 piece of trash. When alerting the front counter they made an excuse that the original typed tag had probably been ripped off by someone like myself inspecting the nonreturnable item before purchasing and a handwritten "sanitized" tag was added. Overall this location will not be a "go to" REI for me again. read more

The bike shop was super busy and I was disappointed when the employee at the front door said they were backed up for several weeks. But I just needed a simple fix (simple for someone who knows what they're doing, complicated for my mechanically challenged self lol). So I decided to ask at the bike counter anyway and they ended up fitting me in right away. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the guy who assisted me, but he was super knowledgeable and friendly. Much appreciated and will definitely use them for future bike repairs. Five stars for the bike shop, 4 stars for the store because they are overpriced on a lot of things. read more

Came in on a Monday night around 7 pm. Looking to buy a new bike for my 8 year old daughter. we just moved from Hawaii and thought this store and brand would be the best place. Came in and walked straight to the bike department. Looked around even tried some bikes out for a spin, all three of us, and no one came to greet us. Must have been there for a less 10 min or more and no one greeted us. Another customer walks up to the department to the desk and 1 min later is greeted by an employee but still does not acknowledge us until she noticed my daughter sitting on a bike that was I guess out for repair? She says you can't ride that.. that's why it has a tag... How are we suppose to know that when it's sitting on the show room? My daughter is simply looking for a new bike. Now I'm a bit upset so I asked... is there anyone here to help up us? She states me but I will be with you in a bit.... We are there first but I guess that doesn't matter. You lost a customer not just for the night... but for good. read more

I have shopped at plenty of REI's, but this location is one of the most least diverse one there is. Every employee I encountered was a middle aged white male employee, who had no trouble with "the how are you sirs" to customers in front or all around me, but if you are a female or on top of that a female person of color...forget about it. The customer service treatment based on my shopping experience was very preferential and lack luster. Guess you have to be a bro or a blond to get the same customer service. It's unfortunate as REI tends to be a very diverse and friendly place. Not impressed with this location. And the service they did provide was mediocre. Other locations provid their expertise and really try to help you on product info or fittings. Love REI, but not impressed with the Dublin store. Pass. read more

Other REI stores that I've been to have an elitist sort of vibe - this one doesn't. we bought a very expensive Thule bike hitch from here. we figured it was better to buy from REI than getting it cheaper elsewhere since they are known for taking care of customers if there are issues. Turns out we were wrong! The thule bike hitch had a faulty lock mechanism so I decided to take it back and exchange it for another one. REI Dublin gave me a hard time with the return , had me talk to multiple managers and wasted my time and in the end did not do the return cause it had been more than a year since i bought it (February 2020). I guess they didn't realize that the covid pandemic hit and not everyone was using the equipment they purchased and were not visiting their stores. In the future, I will think twice about buying from REI. their customer service is not worth the high prices. read more

I was not impressed with this REI store. I have been an REI member for over 20 years, so maybe my expectations are too high. I was hoping to get help finding a back pack that fit me correctly to travel overseas with. I waited for about an hour for some assistance but was ignored, until I was greeted kindly as I exited the building with a friendly goodbye. It was a Sunday, and there was a fair amount of customers, but it would have been nice to be acknowledged and having some hope that eventually they would assist me. I am planning on purchasing a high end Osprey backpack, but would like to spend by money at a store that could assist me in sizing. I'm not sure if they take appointments, but maybe that would be a good idea, so I know if I drive out there through ridiculous traffic, I could get assistance. read more

I have found myself coming back again & again to this REI location & it is definitely among my go-tos when looking for anything travel-related This latest visit found me in search of a new backpack - the inner lining on my old one was literally ripping apart, so I finally had to accept the fact it was time for an upgrade And finding a backpack is quite a chore! I have been sporadically looking at backpacks, travel packs, day packs, etc.... for forever b/c I'm extremely picky when it comes to styling I like lightweight w/ lots of pockets, multiple compartments, & horizontal zippers but up until this latest visit, the planets were not lining up So fate must have known my poor backpack was on its last legs b/c I found a North Face backpack on this visit, that fit all my picky criteria.....and it was a fun purple color to boot - why have boring black all the time?? Also scored a waterproof outer cover which I have always been looking for - to keep all my stowed goodies nice & dry.....I'm set!! And since I can't leave there w/out a good tour of the store, lucked into an adorable pair of Life Is Good snowman jammy pants on sale for like $10! The Mr found a nice cooling shirt that will be perfect for an upcoming trip to New Orleans - fancy enough for dinner yet cool enough to combat the humidity Plus, got to use my yearly dividend for an even greater discount which is yet another reason why I love, love, love REI read more

Came to see the selections of bikes. The one I liked was an rei brand around $550 smackaroos. Well you get what you pay for. Membership is $20 and comes with perks like discounts of tune ups. They have everything you need for outdoors fun pricey though. I think I'm gonna wait until Black Friday ! The staff was very helpful took the time to explain stuff. Good ol' REI. This location couldn't have been in a better location on our way out to Sequoia and King's Canyon. We had stopped for lunch in Dublin and, when looking for a place to stock up on a few things for camp, this REI popped up. It's the same across the board, as far as REI goes. Great customer service, great selection of brands, and all of the wonderfully expensive gear you can convince yourself you do or actually do not need. Thus, this made our trip and easy "in and out" procedure. Love REI and never have any problems. Glad to be a member. read more

HMMM...The staff has always been so incredibly knowledgeable and helpful on prior visits. But, not the grand expertise experience I wanted from the staff today. I did my research ahead of time and determined I wanted to purchase either the Thule rooftop bike rack, or the Yakima. There appeared (middle of the day during the week) to only be like two or three staff members working. I had seen the Yakima displays in the past, as well as the Thule. But, this day, there wasn't a display for the Yakima roof bike rack, only the Thule. So, I lingered around waiting for the one guy working the bike section to finish with his customer. A staff member came out from the back room and offered to help me. When I explained the specific rack I was seeking (and had seen at REI so many times before), he looked puzzled, and went over to the computer to look it up, which he found online. Sure, I have seen it online, and in the store too. I want to see it and the Thule side by side to compare before I make my decision. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "I dunno, I haven't see it here"... Then the guy I was originally waiting for chimed in. I told him exactly what I wanted, and he looked like I just spoke German to him...said he had never heard of it. Guys, I have seen this exact model for over a year on display right here, AND it's at REI online. Don't tell me you have no idea what I am talking about. . . The guy who had come out from the back room went back there to see if he could find them. . . sure enough... he comes out with one. The second guy says "OHHH, I didn't know you were talking about this one".... Get ready... What part of Yakima Forklift Rooftop Bike Rack is confusing to you??? (for those wetting your pants right now, it's probably the most standard Yakima rooftop bike rack they sell)... OK, so now can you find a second one for me? Got it.... I get to the register, and the cashier is having some difficulty with getting the register to function properly. To the point where one person put their stuff down and walked out. It just wasn't a great experience. . . and, yes, I am an REI member...so does that make me an owner who can request the staff members be trained better??? If so, then make it so.... read more

We had to go on a 10 mile hike with 25 lbs of weight as part of Boy Scout activity, a day before , my son complained that his backpack was too small for him and we went to REI to get a new one. We talked to Jonathan at the store and he checked our old backpack and showed us how it could be extended and refit it to my son. Saved us $250 and avoided an unnecessary ( at least for now ) purchase . Jonathan sets an example of customers can be treated like family. My family and I are now a lifelong REI customer. read more
