This is a really nice and clean one-story REI that is well laid out and well lit. I say that because I'm used to the Concord REI, which is a two-story, cramped, and not-as-well lit store front. As an added bonus, the customer service at the Pleasanton location is better as well. I remember that it used to be that good in Concord, but that hasn't been my experience recently. The guy at the register greeted me in a friendly and enthusiastic manner. I proceeded to the shoe department in the back of the store where a friendly and knowledgable woman named Susan helped me. Man, no comparison to the shoe department in the Concord and Berkeley stores where the guys and gals were standing around chatting! It seems like this location has a lot more inventory and styles of items than my local REI, so I may make the drive if I'll be heading in that direction anyway. read more

Used to have really good management at this store and some employees are helpful but the Bike department is a different story. They go out of their way to talk you down as if you don't know anything. Oddly refused to help me get appropriately sized. On one earlier visit they refused to let me sit on any bikes. Two years ago I sat on a bike and a guy quickly approached and stood over the front wheel and held the handlebars like I was stealing the bike or something. Now you'll find all bikes locked up and mostly out of reach, as if you will destroy the bike if you handle it. On my latest visit a latina department lead went out of her way to be difficult with me and was later teaching another employee how not to answer questions. They either don't know their subject well enough or view other store inventory work as more important than spending time with me. Strange since retail stores with this amount of staff standing there can easily give great experiences at no extra cost. Unfortunately you won't get this at REI Dublin Bikes department. One or two odd interactions, okay but three bad services and I have to tell their story here. Go to Mike's Bikes or Trek nearby to get actual customer service when shopping for bikes. Advice to REI Dublin Management- stop selling bikes as your employees don't understand how to treat bike shopping customers and will give detailed answers and let you ride multiple bikes. They lost my sale and I bought two $$$$ bikes nearby. read more

Brian saved the day for me when he helped me get a Mother's Day gift for my wife. He worked hard to get me the right shirt for my wife and I appreciated the service. Several other helpers offered help while Brian was in the back looking for my shirt. Clothes are expensive here but you get what you pay for as these clothes seem to be clothes we will want to wear. We only come here for clothes to wear to buffets and not for all that fancy gear for risk taking sports. read more

REI...you devil. When REI announced it's end of the year sale, my wallet imploded. How convenient...the sale started the day after I booked my flight to Iceland. I've been a member of the REI co-op for a bit, and I've always been pleased with their service. I recently had the choice of going to the Concord location or the Dublin location on Saturday 1/4/14. I chose Dublin. I went to search for a PFD for kayaking. Because it's off-season, the PFDs were all stored way up high in some sort of cabinet thing that requires a ladder and patience. I was in shock that within 2 minutes of being in the paddling section, a nice young guy came over and asked me if I needed assistance, proceeded to grab a ladder, and sorted through EVERY SINGLE PFD to help me find my size. Bravo, REI. You hired a winner. But wait...it's not over. Then, I proceeded to the trinket section to find some European adapters. I ended up leaving with about 10 different things from the trinket section I didn't even think of. "Going to Iceland?" "Yeah, Iceland. It's totally random. I have no idea what I'm doing." "I've been there. Are you going to go whale watching? Iceland is great for that. You might want a motion sickness bracelet, though. Small first aid kit because chances are you'll be in the middle of nowhere. Sports jelly beans for hikes. Long-lasting protein bars, because you don't want to pay for every meal that's just silly. Save the money for a trip to the Blue Lagoon. Hand warmers...it is Iceland, after all. European adapter? Got it. This one's the best deal. I was looking for a new outdoor jacket to replace my "Golden Boy," a lightweight insulated running jacket I purchased at J. Crew 13 years ago. I previously purchased a pair of hiking boots at REI. I was so impressed with my experience then, I decided to go back. The salesperson worked with me trying jackets on for fit and color, once I found a jacket I liked, I found out that this location did not have the jacket I wanted. The salesperson called around and found the jacket for me. I will miss my "Golden Boy," but REI helped me find my new "Golden Boy, Jr." Long may he reign. read more

We know that just about everything is overpriced at REI stores, but this particular store is poorly organized to a point where it's difficult to tell just how overpriced. My S.O. tried to buy pants marked down from $60 to $40. Lady at the counter insisted this was a mistake and charged the full amount. I grabbed a sleeping pad from a shelf that clearly said $39, this was the only kind on the shelf. Find out at the counter it's $139. wow. Okay fine. Go grab the other sleeping pad that I was considering from a shelf marked $50. Made sure to verify the name of the product this time. Nope that was for the short, this one's $90 at the register and wasn't marked!! That's 3 for 3 products that were more expensive than what they appeared to be marked. I think I'll stick to other REI stores or the website which at least make it clear how overpriced their crap is. With what they charge for gear you'd think they could afford employees that'd make the shopping experience pleasant. read more

It's your typical REI, like any other REI. The staff here is very friendly (like most REIs that I've been to), and everything is organized so that things can be found easily. I really love this chain. I honestly find that most everyone I encounter at these stores are generally happy and friendly people (maybe because they tend to get outdoors regularly and drink in that sunshine). Good customer service and very helpful and cheerful sales associates. They have a large selection of outdoor gear, bikes, canoes, snow spots, sleeping bags, tents etc. I came in because I need an attachment for my Gopro camera and they were fully stocked of all the accessories (unlike target and sports authority who had nothing). I asked where their Gopro items are and the sales associates dropped what she was doing (she was working with a co-worker on their new computer system) and walked me over to the area. If you want good information about an outdoor product this is the place to go. The staff are very helpful and know what they are talking about. I also like the REI brand too they are usually awesome products and last a long time. Came in today to exchange a gift and the process was very smooth and easy and signed up for their membership program for myself and my family. I'll defiantly check this place out more often. Great experience and service at REI. Spoke with Brisco regarding putting a cargo on top of my BMW X5. He spent close to an hour helping me pick the right cargo rack and helped me put it on. He provided excellent service, follow up, and was just a great person in purchasing and setting up on top of my SUV. REI is my top choice in outdoor products. read more

Bike shop at REI is a disappointment.....I always end up having my time wasted here because the staff doesn't know what they are doing. I purchased a front rack for my Navarra Rondonee that is a touring bike. I had to return it the next day because it didn't fit. The staff wasn't sure what would fit but they knew REI no longer carried racks for the touting bikes they continue to sell. I really recommend not buying a professional bike from REI. They don't carry parts for the bikes they sell and staff reported to me they are all part timers, so I shouldn't expect so much......... read more

Most things are not inexpensive here. They only carry good quality gears and that's why. I like the fact they have staff available at different corners so I can find them whenever I have questions. I have been shopping at REI for over 30 years and love the company. That said, the crew at the Dublin store exceeds the high standard this company sets for itself. I went for my annual stock up trip and the employees were helpful, friendly and most importantly knoweledgable. While is what I expect from REI, the Dublin crew surpasses all the other stores in the chain. Having grown up shopping at Berkeley and Concord REIs, the Dublin store is now my home store. 4.5 STARS. I've been a long-time REI member, shopper and fan. Now before you go whining that they're too expensive, always remember this: "You get what you pay for!" Over the years, I've purchased many items for various applications - camping, cycling, skiing, vacation gear, etc. - and been very pleased with my purchases. On rare occasions, I've had problems with products purchased at REI and I can tell you REI always stands behind what they sell. Unfortunately, due to grifters like my bro-in-law's buddy (he's the guy who buys, wears out products, then returns for new), REI has had to alter their return policy. I'm still confident they will serve me well as I am not a dishonest guy returning items that I've worn out or broken due to my misuse. One minor complaint...while employees are generally very friendly, sometimes their product knowledge leaves much to be desired. With that said, I am pretty knowledgeable about products I am considering purchasing, so not a huge issue for me, but a valid complaint for sure. 4.5 STARS! read more

This review is for the bike service. Now I love REI, I am a member, and I shop there frequently enough. Also, the bike mechanics seem to be very nice, and knowledgeable. So why the 1 star review? Because quality matters. I brought my mountain bike for warranty service. My only complaint was that gears were not indexed quite perfectly. I left it, and went back three times. This first time they messed up my seat dropper post. The second time they fixed it, but not quite. The third time, over two weeks later they fixed it. Imagine my disappointment when I took the bike out two days later to find the gears were not indexed correctly. Shame. They are nice guys. Possibly quite competent. But my experience left me thoroughly disappointed. I lost over two weeks on the bike and didn't get the basic issues addressed. read more

Customer service here is top-notch. We're always attended to during our shopping visits here and staff seems fairly knowledgable and willingly to help. During our last visit, we had come to take advantage of the Labor Day weekend sale and purchased the BOB jogging stroller along with accessories. In the amount of time it took us to settle our bill, a staff member had pulled a new stroller from the back, built it, AND installed the car seat adaptor for us. We were able to easily and literally stroll our way out of the store without any fuss or muss. In general, I like the selection and variety of items, and the store itself is a good size. If you shop here enough, or make a big enough purchase even, the membership is worth it! read more

Beautiful new REI store in Dublin...I'd been wanting to check this out since it's opening last month and am glad I finally got around to it. I went on a Saturday eve and it was pretty dead which I was excited about cause I can imagine it gets pretty busy in here. Overall the store was well stocked (beanies gallore, yahoo!) and had quite a selection. However, the bf was looking for some cycle pants...and his selections were basically tights or pants, and he was looking for something inbetween to no avail. Their clearance racks were lacking since some of us are on a budget. Lots of cute stuff in the store and it's very clean, making the trip enjoyable...but ultimately i walked away empty handed. Maybe there will be more clearance stuff available soon! read more

My issue is specifically related to bicycle shop & store manager (s) for their lack of effort & horrible customer service: We have shopped at REI Dublin locations for years now; buying equipment and clothing for different occasions. During the REI Annual sale in May of 2019, I decided to purchase a mid-ranged priced bike for my spouse. It took a month to get the bike and to be put together at the local REI in Dublin. On Saturday, July 6th, I attempted to pick up the bike from the shop since I have received an email last week stating that it's done and ready to be picked up. As I started testing the bike I have realized in less than a mile that the right side brake is poorly functioning; you need to hold the break lever almost 70-80 percent down for the bike to slow down (not stop.) I turned around and took the bicycle back to REI Bicycle store and informed them about the mishap that was done during the installation of the bike, and that's when the sad and awful experience started: 1) The employee at the bike shop stated that it was a "slight" issue, and I replied that it is not a "slight matter" as the bike breaking mechanism is clearly not functioning to its standards. The employee sadly tried to save the situation by stating that he meant that a "slight overlook during the installation", and I again disagreed with his statement. I am thinking it's a bicycle with a basic principle of peddling and stopping, so how can you over look the lack of functionality of the brakes. Additionally, I explained to him that it is unsafe and unacceptable for REI to give us a bicycle in this status especially that I am gifting this bike to my wife and we had plans to use it shortly. The bike shop employee had no rational answer and agreed with me about the bicycle status, but then he stated that he cannot do anything about it today as "he has three other bikes in the shop and he won't be able to do it today." I reminded him that this is a NEW bike that I am picking up today from REI after walking to the store from my house and we have plans to use the bike tomorrow, and he replied " that bike brakes need to be bled (due to air), so bring it back tomorrow and we will work on it." And that's when I knew that this place has a lack of customer service understanding; they are willing to have me take the bike in its unsafe condition and inconveniently have to bring it back to them so they could work on it the next day. 2) Clearly, I wasn't happy and wanted to speak with a manager at the store, and that's when the story gets more dreadful. I have spoken to two managers there with no positive change. Well, I patiently reminded her that this is a new bike that was assembled and checked by the expert staff of the store, and it is inappropriate and improper for them to provide me with a new bike in this status, and that's when one of the managers stated,"the bike shop employee who is coming in tomorrow knows how to deal with this bike situation (to bleed the brake), more than the person we have at the shop." To me this excuse is just as awful as original excuse of not having time! Now, before leaving, I asked the store manager to have a representative from corporate call me as I am very unhappy about my experience and overall customer service at REI Dublin branch. It has been more than a month and no one called me, yet! What an unpleasant experience at REI Dublin location. I really would like to speak to a company's representative. Regards, AF read more

I'm brand new to backpacking so I had no clue where to start and what to get. If you want to know exactly what you need and not overspend on what you don't need come to this REI. Save yourself hours of online searching and falling for perceived discounts. I could have saved a few bucks using 1st time customer discount codes with reputable online companies however the pain of having to send the items back, cost of return shipping along with wasted time which totally outweigh the savings was luckily avoided by coming in to the store. The staff here saved me a ton of time and money helping me focus on what I really needed to get started. There is a lot to learn and they will shorten your learning curve because all of them are experienced users of the equipment. I'm blown away by how amazingly user friendly the technologies for backpacking are. Lightweight gear, safety items, and things that limited the stress on my body made hiking extremely enjoyable. Setting up camp was super easy and took little time which was very important after a long day of hiking. Cooking meals took minutes and super tasty!!! After exerting energy to get where I wanted to go and being able to enjoy a meal with very little effort was priceless. Staring up at the stars at night was epic!!. Special thanks to Dan the man for nerding out on the gear choices with me and sharing life hacks to make our experience more enjoyable. Kyle who works backpacking too was also very knowledgeable and super helpful. For all things backpacking go see those guys! Kazu the store manager was equally impressive, the most remarkable part of working with him is we had no clue he was the store manager, he jumped in to help us from out of nowhere right as I turned to look for help like he could sense I was about to need help, he shared his experiences with backpacking, showed us items that made sense for what we were looking for, quality items at lower price points, and personally checked us out at the cashier so nobody had to wait in line. He treated us like every amazing staff member did which is a true testament to the stores culture under his leadership. Molly back in shoes and clothing was very friendly and helpful too. To top it off I got a call today from the store, weeks after our 1st purchases to ask how we're liking the gear, any feedback or anything they can do to help. Who does that in retail anymore? The REI Dublin store does so go there and see for yourself why they're so awesome. There are others I didn't catch names, every staff member goes out of their way to help. I have been a customer and member at REI for 10 years now and just love the store. I have never wrote a review but this time the customer service was exceptional!! I was looking in clothing and a sales person by the name of Steve Cross was so nice and friendly. He helped me and my son out big time. Steve took his time and was so knowledgeable about the products the store had. I have never in 10 years ever had anyone so caring and attentive as Steve was. I hope REI knows what an asset Steve is to their store. I will now go in and ask for him specifically. Not only is this man good looking, but he is so kind. I went to REI in Dublin couple of days ago looking for something to help me ease my pain in my heel and reoccurring blisters I was getting every time I ran more than three miles. I recently purchased new shoes supposedly really good ones with a lots of cushion recommended for running by runners (Hoka) but not from REI unfortunately, yet still nothing was helping. As I walked in the store I was in a rush to pick up dinner for my kids and so I really wanted someone to help me not just in finding a product but who could recommend something for my particular needs in a jiffy. Honestly, I did not know what I needed but this would have been my last effort to solve this issue before going to Dr. I ran into this truly beautiful girl named Karen who is also a runner (major plus) very knowledgeable and patient I might add who helped me understand why I needed the $15 pair of socks..which now that I have used them and will gladly buy more of. I also bought body glide for my blisters and inserts for my new shoes. I waited to write this review mostly to see if the products worked because the service was already excellent. I am happy to say I ran five miles today and had no pain or blisters!!!! I believe Helen was the one that warned me to break in my inserts before going in for a long run and brave of her to take my shoes and old inserts to see what the problem was. What a team!!! I came in just now to ask snowboard questions and also check to see if my snowboard was in top notch condition, and four of the staffers swooped in to help me and answer all my questions. They didn't mind I was taking up their desk and also technically not paying anything. They were just such nice people. And Julie, who apparently is the best there is, helped me actually screw on my bindings. I would recommend this store to anybody. I usually go to Any Mountain for selling information, but this store has me convinced. YAY for REI! read more
