Kathryn's Kuisine - Appetizers served on the patio when the weather is nice.

Kathryn's Kuisine

As a birthday present, we did a cooking class with Kathryn and had the best time. We chose the…read moreSyrian menu and Kathryn taught us so many fun facts about the region and food. She is a true delight and the meal was excellent. Those spiced potato cakes were to die for! I would love to try one of her other menus or wine pairings in the future. This makes a great gift or special experience when guests visit. Highly recommend!

From the moment I reached out to Kathryn, she was warm and friendly, detailed, upfront, responsive, and very communicative. She even worked with me to offer something new for the main course which was a new recipe she just tried for a recent event, and asked lots of questions to ensure that the food she was going to make suited our preferences. Kathryn accommodated our request to have dinner on the patio, and her presentation was amazing! Kathryn's warmth and friendly personality extended to the evening of the dinner as well. Kathryn's food was SO delicious!! Everyone gobbled everything up, and my kids couldn't get enough of the tzatziki! The wines that Kathryn chose for the courses paired very well. The fish was soooo good that there was nothing left on anyone's plates! Everything was delicious - shrimp fritter, tzatziki / pita, pomegranate salad, orange roughy with veggies and cous cous, and the chocolate mousse that was so light and yummmmmy! We had the full service meal option, and Kathryn explained all the courses and the wine nicely throughout. A huge plus was that our kitchen was spotless at the end of the evening, which was so nice not to have to worry about cleaning up at the end of the night. What an amazing experience - thank you Kathryn for making our anniversary dinner so memorable! If you are vacationing in Pismo Beach, or even if you live in the area, I would highly recommend that you reach out to Kathryn!

Grandma Ingrid’s - AMAZING toasted, fresh sourdough english muffin!! The crisp outside and airy inside is perfect! I may never buy store-bought again!!

So far, I have taken five classes from Grandma Ingrid and Nicolle and I have learned a lot and…read morereally enjoyed each experience thoroughly. The classes are held in an over 100 year-old family home and it is very warm and inviting. It is fun to attend the hands-on classes and there are always interesting fellow attendees to meet. Ingrid has a lifetime of experience with home cooking and as a Master Food Preserver for the San Luis Obispo Cooperative Extension Office and her knowledge base is vast. I highly recommend taking a class from Ingrid and Nicolle to anyone who enjoys cooking and wants to learn something new. An added bonus is that breakfast and lunch are included with each in-person class and you get to take home whatever you learned to make, plus handouts and recipes.

The classes take place in a quintessential 100+ year old farmhouse. All the participants are snuggly seated in their home but everyone was lovely and having a wonderful time (tip - there will be 2 demonstration tables, sit at the one with the hanging camera. Talk about front row seats!). My class was candy making. We were supplied with a small recipe booklet of around 10 different candies. Plus, you'll also get recipes for the food they serve. Yes, that's right - they feed you! You get a light breakfast & lunch, all homemade food from Grandma's kitchen, including homemade bread. The farm homestead isn't hard to find. Just know that the last two 'streets' are dirt roads and you'll have a private parking attendant (Grandpa) waiting to direct you. It was very easy to make reservations online & they provide excellent communication both before & after the class. The cost was sooo worth it! Can't wait to sign-up for my next class.

We had a fun evening at Central Coast Culinary, doing one of their popular Trader Joe's cooking…read moreclasses. It was the first time we were here, and from the description online I thought this would be a hands-on class, where you learn new kitchen skills and prepare meals with a chef's instruction. This is NOT what these classes are! You come in and sit around the bar looking into an open kitchen environment where volunteers prepare the meals for you. Adjusting our expectations quickly, we still had a lot of fun at this dining event. We received the recipes for the eight or so dishes that were presented during the class, our favorites were the seared salmon with Miso honey sauce, shrimp and basil stir fry, stuffed tomatoes with goat cheese and zucchini, skillet tortellini with crispy prosciutto and spring vegetables, pan-roasted filets mignon with asparagus and the strawberry rhubarb crumble. You can bring your own wine, too. Chef Debbie narrates all dishes, provides tips on what to look out for when you're shopping for ingredients and gives instruction to the volunteers that so all the prepping, cooking and cleaning. I wish Debbie would use a microphone, as she mostly sat on the other side of the bar, and we had a hard time hearing her sometimes. When dishes are ready, they are passed down the bar in huge serving dishes, so you can take as little or as much as you like of each of the dishes. I would recommend the meals are put in smaller serving bowls/platters and multiple are being passed to the attendees. When you're at the end of the line, you might otherwise not get much of the food, or you're left with scraps. The serving platters were way to big, and uncomfortable to pass around. Also, please get tongs to make it easier to pass out the food - especially the pasta or asparagus. All in all a fun date night, we were full with delicious food and received some great tips during the night. Would I go again for $75 per person? Unlikely, I really missed hands-on instruction, and think it's too pricey for us to do on a regular basis.

Moving through the hall, you can already feel a sense of peace settling in. I love that they offer purified water at the base of the stairs -- with the option to add mineral salt if you choose (my personal fav!). At the top of the stairs, the beautiful loft space opens up as the main room. Sunlight pours through the windows, illuminating another collection of thriving plants, each brimming with prana, or life force energy. Step into the heated room and you'll find warm, welcoming lighting, a fun disco ball overhead, and the gentle warmth of infrared heating panels. Every prop you could need is provided -- and there's enough for everyone. The teachers are all incredible in their own unique ways. Dharma offers the most comprehensive class schedule in North County SLO, with start times ranging from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., seven days a week. The owner, Jena, is a truly special soul whose calming, present energy is felt the moment you meet her. The love and intention she's poured into this space is woven into every detail. Downstairs, there's a lovely wellness lounge featuring an array of healing modalities and a space for other practitioners to host workshops -- from Reiki trainings to massage to bio-tuning and beyond. The class variety is just as rich: from sweat-inducing, kick-your-butt Inferno Pilates to deeply gentle restorative yoga; from classic Hatha to candlelit flow and stretch classes taught by instructors from all walks of life. Dharma Yoga Loft is something truly special in Paso Robles -- a town that's still relatively sleepy to the conscious community. Jena has created a space that honors those ideals while remaining inviting and welcoming to everyone, whether or not they're already tuned in to higher frequencies. I cannot say enough good things about Dharma, it's truly a gem!
