It's not completely outdoors per se (you're in like a greenhouse area), but it's nice to protect you from the elements while still getting sun. There's also indoors seating. Staff very nice and receptive. It was a but too sunny for my taste, and the terrace area got kinda hot, but for my friend it was the perfect temperature, lol. I had the cobb salad and it was actually better than expected. So, this is a nice place if you're looking to get some sun. Not a great place to get views of the city. This spot is a cute location for drinks with friends. You have an open rooftop, great vibes, and solid little bites to eat. I would not recommend for a dinner location after a show. The french onion dip was tasty with homemade chips. The caprese panini was okay. I felt like they could have done more whether the type of bread or presentation to make it better. I ordered a Coke and you could tell the ratio of syrup and soda water was off. Kudos to our waitress, I think we were added to her section and even though she was incredibly busy, always made sure we were good to go. The food is solid, and the cocktails are even better. I usually go for something smoky and a little spicy with mezcal, and they always deliver. Definitely a spot I keep coming back to. read more

We got a great seat outside, great service, and the food and drinks were great! Everyone at the table loved the Cool Cool Cool. I'm not a huge gin person, so I got an old-fashioned that tasted like straight whiskey without much bitters or other flavor, but I followed with a Manhattan that was good. We shared several plates: shrimp tacos, truffle Bianca flatbread (probably my favorite), tuna crispy rice (seemed to be table favorite), and the kale salad which I probably wouldn't order again. I first came across Refinery Rooftop when I was browsing venues for a potential wedding. The space is absolutely beautiful with exposed brick, a glass roof, and umbrellas. It feels like a little escape right in the middle of Midtown. There was also good music playing which helped the vibe. This was my first time actually eating there, and overall it was a good experience. We had a 2:30 reservation, and while it was a relaxed time to go, be aware there is a $100 table minimum at this time on a Saturday, which can feel a bit high if you're not very hungry or not drinking. The staff was nice enough to make us a steak at brunch time, even though it was not listed on the brunch menu. We ordered the 16oz Dry Aged Cowboy Steak "Whacked Up," which came with green peppercorn sauce, chimichurri, garlic confit, butter sauce, caramelized onions, and focaccia bread. The steak itself was OK, though not amazing. Some bites were moderately tender, while others were too fatty and chewy. There was also a burned/charred flavor that reminded me of the disappointing experience I had at Peter Luger eating a burned steak. That said, the buttery sauce and steak sauces were tasty. I ordered the guava lemonade mocktail. It was not especially memorable. I would give it 3 stars mainly for the ambiance. The service was friendly, and the rooftop setting is beautiful. The tables are so low to the ground so you have to bend over excessively to reach your food and drinks on table. Reservations highly recommended for a group of 4 or larger! This is THE place to go after work and was really crowded from 6-8ish on a Wednesday. But it's worth the crowd (or not, if you reserve and get a table!). Not many places in midtown have a covered glass rooftop with views of the Empire State Building - this is probably the only one I would go with work friends. I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing the cocktails were. Nothing was bad and everything I had had was great! That includes the mezcal/tequila old fashioned. Definitely a solid rooftop bar, but nothing outstanding. We had a reservation for 8:00 on a Friday night. We were seated right away. The tater tots were very crispy and the black pepper mayo was delicious and different. The manhattan was good. The service didn't feel rushed, but they definitely got us in and out quickly. There was a DJ in the bar when we were exiting which might have been fun, but we just weren't expecting it. I'm going to be honest. We came to hang out after a day of traveling in, last night, Monday, Sept 8. I know we didn't have a reservation, however it was around 8pm on a Monday and there were tons of empty tables. I should have went with my gut when the first person I asked about how seating worked was rude but I figured eh, it's NYC. Then the host was rude, sat us reluctantly. I give our server credit she was tentative. Blonde hair, we sat in a two seater to the left in the middle ish. Don't remember her name. Where this 1 star really comes into play is we KNOW this is the last place my husband had his credit card. They don't have phones, he emailed and the said no, but figuring it was for the overall hotel, he went in-person and they still said no. So beware if you come here. There aren't any fraud charges "yet" but this is the last charge and we were tired from a long day. Don't recommend. The Refinery can make this right by doing more due diligence and finding where the lost cc is. read more

Wonderful lunch here on a Saturday. It was peaceful, calm and beautifully sunny. The service was superb and friendly without being intrusive. Our food and drinks were delicious and just right. Pretty vibey indoor / outdoor rooftop. If you want seating on a Saturday you'll definitely need resys. You can walk in to the bar which was crowded and had loud music playing. Inside some people were dancing. At the bar some people were talking. And outside people were eating. I loved the style of this place and it felt very trendy inside. Located in a pretty nice hotel. I was traveling to Manhattan with Vanity Fair for a sponsored trip years ago when I was a blogger. The company set up reservations for all of us to stay at this hotel and to my ACTUAL shock it was across the steeet from Atlas. As a massive fan of Project Runway, and self proclaimed Tim Gunn super fan.... This is probably some of the best regular hummas i have had. It is extremely rich, creamy and flavorful with a good variety of things to dip into it. The veggies and bread were really fresh as well. It was on the pricier end especially for hummas but so are many things in new york especially at higher end places. The atmosphere is pretty of what you are paying for. The bright and lush bar was my favorite. The hanging plants, lights, and glass ceiling made it perfect for the warm weather but I could see it working well in the rain as well. It also has a good amount of outdoor patio seating. The service was quick and friendly, which only added to the overall enjoyment. We stopped in for a light lunch (I would recommend a reservation) and we had the kale salad, which was a standout--delicious and surprisingly filling. And if you love a bold flavor, the black pepper mayo is a must-try, which we had with the delicious tater tots they serve. I personally loved how peppery the sauce was, but some may find it off-putting. All in all, Refinery Rooftop offers great food, fantastic service, and one of the best atmospheres in the city. Refinery Rooftop was by far one of the highlights from my trip to New York City! I was able to get a reservation for a Friday evening on the main outdoor patio space, and they gladly obliged my request for the ideal seating to look at the Empire State Building from (as first-time visitors to NYC). I appreciated that the patio space was kept exclusive to reservations (there's a bar space inside), even on a Friday night. You'd be surprised how many LA places have little to no concern for reserved spaces on the weekend! Service was very attentive and friendly, and any items we ordered were out in no time at all. She also offered to take a picture of my partner and I together when she saw us taking pictures for each other! For food, we ordered a plate of calamari, which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious to enjoy. The cocktails were also creative, strong, and enjoyable! All in all, everything worked out perfectly and we had a wonderful evening on the rooftop while enjoying an unbeatable view of the Empire State Building. I not only recommend this spot, but I advise coming here over one of the observation decks, as the experience is far better! read more

I arrived here with my girlies, and we had reservations. Even though we were a few minutes early, we were seated right away. The rooftop is on top of the hotel, so you have to head inside and take the elevator up. I loved the seating--they gave us a nice spot with the Empire State Building in the background, which was such a cool view. It was a bit windy, but the umbrellas were sturdy--though, in the middle of our meal, we did notice that someone's umbrella a few tables down toppled over. Our waitress was attentive and on top of our needs. The food was absolutely delicious! I'm already planning to go back for the Caesar wrap, which I paired with tater tots. We didn't have reservations and initially they only had tables or bar seating in the sun, but a table quickly opened up that we were able to snag as long as we stayed for only an hour. The rooftop is lovely. Half of it is in open air and half is semi covered. There's a bar in the center. It has a thoughtful smattering of leafy plants and wood paneling. To start, we shared the mac and cheese. It was topped with buttery breadcrumbs, which added nice texture. It was perfectly melty with a satisfying slight sharpness to the cheese. For my main, I got the cauliflower flatbread. It was loaded with veggies including sprouts, cauliflower, onions, and bell peppers. The toppings made it difficult to pick up and eat, as the crust was quite floppy. It was also quite bland and flavorless. The cauliflower dough was chewy with a crispy edge. I wouldn't order this again. Servers were attentive with water. Overall, I think the food is slightly overpriced. read more

This gorgeous rooftop is in the heart of midtown and is the perfect place to host a brunch or grab lunch or dinner. I walked in with a friend during lunch and we were sat right away. Their brunch drinks are so good and the food is even better. I shared the chicken club and the veggie sliders with a friend and they were both delicious. The sliders were not dry in fact they were perfectly moist and had some of the best sauces on the bread, the whole thing was great. The chicken club was also very yummy and if you get fries with it, it'll be the perfect lunch! Views are of course awesome especially if you're seated on the edge of the rooftop.
