We got a great seat outside, great service, and the food and drinks were great! Everyone at the table loved the Cool Cool Cool. I'm not a huge gin person, so I got an old-fashioned that tasted like straight whiskey without much bitters or other flavor, but I followed with a Manhattan that was good. We shared several plates: shrimp tacos, truffle Bianca flatbread (probably my favorite), tuna crispy rice (seemed to be table favorite), and the kale salad which I probably wouldn't order again. The ambiance was perfect- quintessential NY rooftop experience.

Food (4/5): We ordered the burger with fries, wings and panini. All the dishes were good and solid. The wings could've been more tender and fall off the bone delicious, but they were all decent. Service (5/5): Top notch service where our waiter was very friendly, helped with photos for our group, and the food came fast despite our big group. We were there for our friend's birthday and they made it special. Ambiance (4/5): Darkly lit, somewhat upscale american bar restaurant vibe. Overall nice setup and part of a beautiful hotel. There was an outdoor area but we didn't really hang out in it because it was too cold at the time we went.

Espresso Martini with tequila instead

Randomly popped up at this cute little bar/restaurant while we were waiting to meet up a friend. Of course I had to have myself an Expresso Martiniii! We didn't order any food, but we did get a glimpse of a few delectable orders that passed us by. There's also a covered outdoor dining area with views of the Empire State Building :)

We come here to wait until our room is ready every time we visit New York. Something about the space is just so inviting. The food and cocktails are good. The scenery is pretty even when it's snowing.

Came here for happy hour- got a couple of cocktails and truffle fries. Both were good, however YOU COME HERE FOR THE VIBES AND THE VIEW. The Empire State backdrop is gorgeous.

16oz DRY AGED COWBOY STEAK -WHACKED UP-

I first came across Refinery Rooftop when I was browsing venues for a potential wedding. The space is absolutely beautiful with exposed brick, a glass roof, and umbrellas. It feels like a little escape right in the middle of Midtown. There was also good music playing which helped the vibe. This was my first time actually eating there, and overall it was a good experience. We had a 2:30 reservation, and while it was a relaxed time to go, be aware there is a $100 table minimum at this time on a Saturday, which can feel a bit high if you're not very hungry or not drinking. The staff was nice enough to make us a steak at brunch time, even though it was not listed on the brunch menu. We ordered the 16oz Dry Aged Cowboy Steak "Whacked Up," which came with green peppercorn sauce, chimichurri, garlic confit, butter sauce, caramelized onions, and focaccia bread. The steak itself was OK, though not amazing. Some bites were moderately tender, while others were too fatty and chewy. There was also a burned/charred flavor that reminded me of the disappointing experience I had at Peter Luger eating a burned steak. That said, the buttery sauce and steak sauces were tasty. I ordered the guava lemonade mocktail. It was not especially memorable. I would give it 3 stars mainly for the ambiance. The service was friendly, and the rooftop setting is beautiful. However, I wouldn't order the steak again.

GRILLED CHICKEN PANINI

For a spot to just get drinks and apps, very nice. To actually sit down and eat.... the table and seating selection is very poor. The tables are so low to the ground so you have to bend over excessively to reach your food and drinks on table. There is a nice view of the Empire State Building- but not a lot of shade provided by the umbrellas if you want to come for lunch or just before sunset so it can be really hot... wish we would've came in the afternoon instead!

Flatbread tower and drinks

Reservations highly recommended for a group of 4 or larger! This is THE place to go after work and was really crowded from 6-8ish on a Wednesday. But it's worth the crowd (or not, if you reserve and get a table!). Not many places in midtown have a covered glass rooftop with views of the Empire State Building - this is probably the only one I would go with work friends. I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing the cocktails were. Nothing was bad and everything I had had was great! That includes the mezcal/tequila old fashioned. The flatbread tower was also super tasty and we crushed the cookie skillet. Will definitely come back!!

Menu

Definitely a solid rooftop bar, but nothing outstanding. We had a reservation for 8:00 on a Friday night. We were seated right away. The tater tots were very crispy and the black pepper mayo was delicious and different. The manhattan was good. The service didn't feel rushed, but they definitely got us in and out quickly. There was a DJ in the bar when we were exiting which might have been fun, but we just weren't expecting it. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, including the hostess and doorman downstairs.

Pretty vibey indoor / outdoor rooftop. If you want seating on a Saturday you'll definitely need resys. You can walk in to the bar which was crowded and had loud music playing. Inside some people were dancing. At the bar some people were talking. And outside people were eating. I loved the style of this place and it felt very trendy inside. Located in a pretty nice hotel. On the ground floor lobby was a completely different vibe with a really nice jazz band playing. It was on the pricey side but you're paying to be in a cool place.

Awesome views of the Empire State Building from the patio! It was busy both during the day and at night but there is still plenty of space to hangout. Great spot for a cocktail!

Calamari
Roxy M.

Stopped in for a cocktail. Had the margarita with watermelon tajin. It is so good and a must try on the rim of your drink. The calamari was very good. The location is open and the breeze felt nice. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were attentive. Great spot for a look at the Empire Stare Building.

Vincent P.

Had the absolute best time! The cocktails we had were delicious and the server we had was very accommodating and sweet. But I think the prices match the stunning night views of NYC including the Empire State, which is fair. It's beautiful. They also have this mini dance floor with a fun DJ! Fun fun! Will come back here for brunch and maybe see the place during the day!

Ask the Community - Refinery Rooftop

Sunday 8pm. Is a minor/teenager allowed if accompanied by parents?

Yes bc it’s a restaurant also

Is the bar totally accessible by elevator? Or are there any stairs AT ALL anywhere in the process of getting to the bar?

There's an elevator that takes you directly to the rooftop.

How long is bottomless brunch?

They do not offer bottomless.

Do you need reservations just to get a drink at the bar?

No, you can walk in and sit at the bar.

Does one have to be fully vaccinated to enter?

I think so

What time does the kitchen close?

10 m

Looking to come here after dinner for drinks and a vibe, For a party of 2 should I make a reservation?

Yes, you definitely need a reservation.

If you walk in with a party of 4, is there a minimum needed to spend?

When you go during the day, there wasn't it was just open seating but unsure if it's different on the weekends.

Hello, does the Refinery rooftop brunch on weekends have bottomless drinks included? If so what is the price for the bottomless brunch? Thanks?

I do not think so!

Just want to go for drinks on the rooftop? Is there a minimum amount that needs to be spent?

When I tried to do a reservation online it shows a minimum of $100-$150 needs to be spent depending on the time of the day. I don't know if that applies to walk ins.

Is this restaurant dog friendly?

The last time we were there (March) there was a girl with a French bulldog. Perhaps it was a service dog, but I'm not sure.

I cancelled a reservation being that I was not aware of the age limit and was charged? I had sent a message when reservation was made requesting I for being that it was for a 17 year old birthday and never heard back. Hope some can help with this.

For some prominent restaurants If you cancel too late, they will charge you a fee but you should call. A lot of restaurants are not answering emails.

Is a Reservation required?

Would you say the vibe is more quiet and intimate or fun and energetic?

Fun & energetic

Is there any age restrictions or limits to enter, can someone under 21 attend?

A bar restaurant will allow a minor in to eat but will card them if they ask for a drink and when they show they are below 21 they will refuse to serve them spirits, wine, beer. Night Clubs in nyc have a 21 and up policy most of the time except… Read more

Does they have heaters?

If they have them, they didn't use them when I was there. Try contacting the restaurant.

Is the rooftop open in January?

We went for during Christmas and the outside portion is closed off but if you look at pictures you'll see a glass roof which still allows for the rooftop atmosphere even in the winter.

Will there be anything special for NYE countdown?

yes

What genre of music do they play?

Based on when I was there for brunch, it's top 40. It's in the background so you can still have a full conversation even if you're sitting a bit far from each other.

Should I make a reservation for drinks on a Saturday night?

I would make a reservation. I went there on a weeknight after work and our group needed a reservation. I don't know if it is a requirement, but I would call / email them to make sure you get your spot. Great place for drinks, BTW.

We wanted to have after-dinner cocktails in a chill space, so we searched on our phones & saw Paradise Lost address via Google. We proceeded to walk down & was unable to find the establishment due to their being no front sign. After walking back & forth a few times, we saw another group walking towards the door & they confirmed the place. We walked inside the front door pressed a "doorbell" & lo & behold we gained entry after the previous group went inside. Definitely an incognito entrance. Once inside that door there is someone to greet you, & take your information. There is a forest/ grass/ jungle-looking foyer/ hallway we walked down to get to the next door. Before we knew it, we were near the "Paradise Lost No Vacancy" neon sign w/ an arrow pointing towards the snake-shaped knob door. It gets opened & a supercool speakeasy awaits.... Paradise Lost has mixed style table / seating arrangements throughout the place. A bar seating section, booth-style seating area, lounge- style seating area, etc. We got there a little after 7pm, so the afterwork crowd was in full swing. Paradise Lost has interesting atmosphere. At times a Gothic / Medieval Vibe, meets place w/ shipwreck decor, meets eleganct /club vibe w/ beautiful ceiling lighting, etc. Music played in the background. Staff are friendly, energetic, & attentive. We were pleasantly overwhelmed w/ the vast selection of tiki cocktails that were on the menu. Paradise Lost also have an intimate selection of snacks/ food menu items. This included Popcorn, Tater Tots, Devilled Eggs Rangoon Dip, etc. We ordered some cocktails served in unique tiki mugs & a bucket of popcorn to munch on w/ our drinks. The popcorn is flavored w/ Sea Buckthorn & Browm Butter, which gave it an special flavor profile. Our cocktails were well-prepared & nice & strong. Paradise Lost has individual unisex bathroom stalls & a communal vanity & sink area. The bathroom stalls have spooky voices coming from a speaker as you use the bathroom. I was so humorously taken aback, it had me laughing when I came out...Definitely a different thing to experience in the bathroom - lol. Before we left we watched one of the bartenders do a cocktail "fire" presentation for some patrons in a booth seated area. Wow.... Paradise Lost accepts walk-ins only, no reservations. Paradise Lost accepts groups of 8 or less, unless you are requesting to book the space for a private event. Ages 21+ paradiselost.nyc @paradiselostnyc Paradise Lost is open everyday - 5pm-2am.
