I made a 45 minute drive to downtown Hayward and all the security gates were already pulled out and the store was closed. I stood in front of the store confused because it was only 3:15pm. I sat in the car checking the hours online as the employee with long hair closed up and drove away in their white Mazda hatchback and their bike rack hitch. Is this normal practice? Do any hire ups know people are closing up shop early? Pretty bummed to be honest. Totally killed my mood and such a waste of time and travel. Oh well.

I wrote my cell phone on his notebook to call me for an estimate. I did not hear from him until I called Friday. He said he had 3 people at the store but will call on that day. He did not. I called on Saturday to check on the bicycle. He said he'll call me on the same day which he did. The bicycle was ready for pickup on that day for $60. If you are not in a hurry, I guess this place is fine. But if you care about letting your "yes" be "yes" & your "no" be "no", there are other bicycle shops out there.

It was my dream bike, a black Cannondale, top of the line. After that, got married and had children and Gene saw me through training wheels through teenage years, then sadly through a divorce. Back in a bike and climbing mountains - loving life! Anyway, today, after trying all night to get my chain back on my new e-bike (not possible on the road) I walked in and George was at the door. He sensed my frustration and said, "Come on in." It wasn't an easy fix. But they worked on it, two guys 25 minutes, and 5 tools. Meanwhile, I walked into the showroom to check out the bikes (tee hee hee). Then I noticed a new coffee and tea station with a couch and chairs, and Madeline cookies. It's just what I needed after a frustrating night and morning trying to fix it myself. Such a mindful and kind touch. People easily complain, so positive heartfelt reviews are gold. Alameda Bicycle is a solid community member and business. Honest. If I don't need something, George will say, "You don't need that." Last time, I picked up some gorgeous Ortlieb panniers (which they installed) and a fix-a-flat for on the road flats. I forgot it on the counter -- it was here waiting for me when I returned a few weeks later. They only had my old digits! BTW, I didn't eat the last Madeline cookie. I saved it for you! I was struggling to figure out how to use it, and the employee ended up helping me pump my bike tire. It's been years, but I still remember this kind gesture from one of their employees. It's hard to find parking around Park Street; it's convenient that they have four compact parking spots and one handicap accessible parking spot in their parking lot.

I have been coming here for years. Couple of years back I had a not so good experience with one of…read morethe service specialists but I brushed it off as one off and continued to get my service repairs here. Today I went in for an issue that I was having on my rear brake (squeaking noise and over heating ).They had changed the brake pads and I had not used my bike much. So I was expecting something to do with that. The person (same Specialist) suggested to replace the system (pad, rotor ) to fix it as it was a waste of time for him to clean the pads. He was also expecting me to pay for the brake pads again. He also insinuated that I must have insisted for just the brake pad change to save costs etc , basically passing the issue to me. At that point I lost trust in the repair recommendation and bummed by the attitude. And will likely get his fixed somewhere else. Used to love this place but am going to another shop onwards.

Love his installs almost one month in on my bike and it's pushing like a champ. I'm about 40 miles on the bike since the upgrade and I'm still in love. Inspired by vapor wave, we landed on a Sailor Moon palette of deep purple, magenta, and white (with a few gold accents). The pin stripe around the lugging is really clean. Excellent work! She's a beauty now. Rick talked me out of an additional blue color block and I think it turned out really great. He even polished the chrome fork and applied topcoat over the decals so they won't fade like the originals.

I met Rick at his shop and he helped me pick out a new color after listening to what I was thinking color wise. We also agreed to redo the decals. He told me it would be about 5-6 weeks and like clockwork it was ready in that timeframe. I went to pick it up and I was amazed! It looked better than new and the decals were fantastic. Built up it looks even better and feels like I got a new bike! I would highly recommend Rick if you are considering getting a frame repainted.
