Cracker Barrel has nothing on Red's. They are gimmicky while Red's is the real thing. They say that if you're traveling, try the places where the locals go. This is definitely a "Local's" place. The menu is basic in that there weren't any "gourmet" items but real home cooked specialties like biscuits n gravy, country sausage, French toast on Challah bread, hot cakes, grits n spuds. The place was crowded at 9:30am but we decided to sit at the first available counter seats. The wait was about 5-10 minutes; just enough time to read their little town newspaper. My husband had the regular French toast with the spuds (potato wedges sauteed with onions and peppers to give them a really tasty flavor) and bacon. I had the hungry man's French toast. Honey, orange zest and powdered sugar with 2 country sausage patties. The waitresses were friendly and even though they were very busy, refilled our coffee cups with a smile. Heart clenching food. Everything is dripping with grease and the place smells liked burning oil. I had 2 bites of a burger and couldn't finish it while staring at the puddle of grease on my plate. Red's is one of those places I make a point of visiting every time I'm in the area. They only serve breakfast and lunch but that's OK; the limited focus is more than balanced by the quality of food and service. Everything they serve is delicious and in portions large enough to challenge the most dedicated over eater. The biscuits and gravy are excellent (you can't go wrong) but today I had the special; fried chicken and waffles with a honey oat syrup. It was awesomely delicious and served by Bonnie who is so good at what she does she could sell ice to an Eskimo. The food's okay, but not great. If you like Cracker Barrel, then you'll like this place. Large portions; if the food was better, that could be a plus. Hubby and I had lunch on Friday. I am somewhat of a food snob. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious! I had the best sea food chowder I ever ate. It was creamy and chock full of sea food. And best of all it was not overly salted. Hubby had a Rueben sandwich. Tender, not dried out. Delicious marble rye. It came with perfectly seasoned fries. We shared fried green tomatoes. They top them with feta cheese side of roulade sauce. We ate every bite. Service was great. Although the restaurant was packed we did not have to wait long for our food. This is a fantastic breakfast place. Although it takes us awhile to get there AND there is usually a wait, this place has huge portions of delicious food. My husband's favorite dish is the country fried steak. It is always perfectly cooked and comes with potatoes and a biscuit. My two go-to favorites are the eggs Benedict or the orange French toast. This is a good place for a relaxing brunch with good company. There are booths or bar top areas to sit and eat. Low music was great so we could enjoy conversation. Excellent food, and even better service! The servers are great, and always hustling. The food is delicious, but seriously too much (if you're not an "I'll take the rest to go" type.) My club wrap was awesome, but almost too overflowing to eat. A good problem, I guess. The best (seriously!) Loaded Baked Potato soup I've ever had. I have been going here for years and it has always been great. But today was the worst I have every felt from a restaurant. I asked for my toast and pancake to not be burnt and the waitress(Kari) acted like I was an inconvenience. Then my steak was overcooked and tough to eat and my daughter's fruit had mold on it. I really don't think it is an unreasonable thing to ask for food without mold all over it. We were looking for a change from the typical chain restaurants and decided to take a ride out to Reds. Got there around 11:30 on a Thursday and the parking lot was already full. However, we only had a short wait for a table I ordered the French dip and my companion ordered the rodeo chicken sandwich. I thought the wait time was a little long ( probably close too half an hour) but I think that may have been because of the shift from breakfast to lunch. Breakfast foods seemed to coming out more quickly. But I have to say it was worth the wait! The portions were huge and the food was hot and very tasty. Finally came in here last Sunday for breakfast after driving by for years and hearing great things about the breakfast. You're going to want to get here early, preferably in the summer if you're a local, because it was filled by 1030 with a 30 minute wait so I can only imagine how busy it can be with snowbirds here. Trust me this place was worth the wait. We had sat at the counter and we ordered our coffee and food. I got the veggie omelet with fruit and the boyfriend got the western omelet with potatoes. We also ordered the hot cake after hearing about how big they were . The omelets where perfect and delicious. I was impressed with my fruit plate because it wasn't just a few melons and grapes. It had pineapple,oranges, bananas and grapes which was a great treat for a side. I stole one of the potatoes off the boyfriends plate and I was so thrilled with them because so few places make them like they do at reds. They were crispy on the outside but not fried and tenter on the outside. The hot cake lived up to the hype it was the size of the plate and easily an inch thick and fluffier than anything I've ever seen in a pancake. Such an amazing meal! My whole family ordered breakfast, while I ordered the Beach Bum sandwich. All of the meals are absolutely huge. I love that it's an open menu and you can order anything (breakfast, lunch, dinner) anytime of the day. The beachbum hoagie bread was fresh and crisp at the same time being light and fluffy. The coleslaw and fries added to the sandwich make this like a Primanti brothers Pittsburgh style sandwich, which is amazing! The guy buster breakfast was the breakfast of my husband's dreams and he ate the leftover pancakes for the next two days, still raving about them on each day! My dad got the French toast and we had never had French toast that doesn't get soggy in the middle. The flavors and tastes were amazing. The prices just added to our value and the service topped off the experience. Everyone was extremely friendly and fast. We can't wait to visit Florida again to go back. We were out for a ride today. We had heard about the restaurant. We decided to stop in. We were quickly seated. Then it was downhill. My wife ordered cup of soup and egg sandwich with bacon. I ordered pastrami. The egg sandwich came out, no bacon, no mayonaisse and uncut. My pastrami was so salty and layered rather then shredded. Made it difficult to deal with. I ate half and gave up. My wife had to get waitress to finish the order for bacon and myonaisse. Upon leaving the cashier asked if everything was okay. My wife mentioned the fact my pastrami was salty. The cashier immediately took a defensive stance and blamed us for not telling waitress. My wife did not tell her in any condescending or negative manner. It was clear to me that this restaurant is not for us. I might add the prices were higher than most luncheon menus we have seen. $6 for a egg sandwich. Bill was $27 with no alcohol. Needless to say we will NOT be back and would recommend them to no one. If you do go do not complain. 70 years of loving pastrami and this one was the absolute worst ever. This is the best place for breakfast. You walk in and it looks just like what you'd think a country restaurant should look like. There's a big fireplace roaring and cute quaint decorations everywhere. I was a little put off when I first got in because they wouldn't seat us (at the table already prepared for us) until the whole party was there, so we were cluttering up the small waiting area. But once we got seated, service was excellent. The food came out fresh and hot. It was so delicious too. Everyone in our large party was very happy with their food. Reds was a different experience, to start off my feast the waitress's addressed with "what are you drinking" and then took my order of a nice glass of water. However, this water this water wasn't so nice it tasted like it was taken out of a park fountain. I then requested for a lemonade and I didn't receive for till the end of my meal, but wait I can't forget about my meal. Ordered the full serving of buiscuits and gravy, was not disapointed, soft fluffy buiscuits and sausage bits in white gravy. The portion was large and cheap, the tea was excellent (for some reason that's hard for many establishments to get right, not Red's.) Atrocious customer service, atrocious food. We sat there marinating in the frying oil smell watching others get their food before us when they clearly came in after us. The food tastes like re-fried fumes of oil cooked in a pan that has never been washed. The food was cold, the grits were appalling and disgusting.
