Visited 9/24/2024 for dinner! Let me start by saying your hostess deserves a raise that girl was busting her butt off. We waited for a table for about 20 min. Not the greatest table back by the bar. At one point I had a crowd of women hitting my seat and talking loud which took away from my date with my husband. So we started with a couple of appetizers- the onion soup rolls and the dip with ricotta cheese both of these were good. The onion soup rolls were a bit on the dry side. I ordered a chicken sandwich but got an eggplant sandwich. I'm not fond of egg plant. I asked the hostess to grab our waitresses and mentioned that I got the incorrect sandwich. The waitress said I could have swore you said Farm To Ciabatta Sandwich - I didn't want to correct her, but I had asked her when ordering and I pointed to the sandwich and said this one which was the Cluckwork Orange and I asked her if it was good with the artichoke hearts and she replied yes! No big deal she corrected it immediately and she was a ok waitress. The sandwich was slapped together quickly because she came back with the correct sandwich in less than 5 minutes. Unfortunately the sandwich wasn't good which wasn't her fault. We order dessert and I had asked for coffee. I should have told the waitress to forget the coffee because she paused and looked over at the kitchen and then said yes, I have coffee. So I received a cold cup of coffee. We ordered cheese cake which wasn't very good. It had an odd after taste. So unfortunately I am giving a 2 star review because of the sandwich, cold old coffee and dessert. For the sandwich the bread wasn't toasted and it was slapped together so quickly, the cold coffee and dessert. Lastly when I got home I was in the bathroom for a long time and was totally sick so it had to have been the sandwich or dessert because my husband had the appetizers. He had one bite of cheesecake so it could have been that? Not sure but something made me super sick which was not great especially being on vacation. read more

We wanted something different & Red's Place filled the bill. I would called a comfortable & cozy place. Their French Onion Sliders got us in the door and didn't disappoint! The bread picked up the nuances of a warm soup and the onions were well caramelized & tasty. I opted for the 5 mushroom sub and was extremely tasty & satisfying. They had a crab burger & great sides. Nice choice of beers & other beverages. All in all another visit in the future is looking good! read more

We have been to Reds several times. The food is usually good. Prices are on the higher end. Manger has a bad attitude and does not care about customers. We usually tip 20% on up depending upon service. Our experience was so bad that we all got up and left. Horrible Customer Service. We will never go back! read more

If we're talking colors, I'm not big on red. I'm more of a purple fan myself, but since we're talking about Reds, capital R, I can say that Red is great. I had to wonder what came first, the name or the matching walls as we slid into a rounded booth that made me feel like a mob boss about to make a deal instead of an order. The table kept slipping around, probably because we kept bumping it in an attempt to lean closer and hear each other. The waitress brought over two mason jars and filled them out of a milk bottle. My mate asked for a straw, and we were given two, already unwrapped. A moment of silence passed for the turtles, ended by me blowing bubbles into my icy water. The waitress kept pace with our refills. (Considering how muggy it is out, this is very much appreciated.) We are on vacay, so my mate broke his diet to order a Porks and Rec with a side of tots. They were the first thing he touched, practically melting into the booth. And no, it was not because of the weather, or because he hasn't had potatoes in ages, because I stole a tot out of his tiny fryer basket, and dear gosh, they're good. Crispy, crunchy, with a punch of salt, and what I swore to be the slightest tickle of sweet. (Don't quote me on that, as even though he agreed, we were a bit weary from our hike.) The sandwich itself was served on a very soft ciabatta, nice and bubbly. The pork had been perfectly braised, offset by the fresh veg and herbage to make it still taste fresh. I myself decided to be the Fun Guy (girl, but I'm poking fun at all their delightfully punny titles here) and order a sandwich with a side salad. I'm always curious how a side salad is interpreted by restaurants. It's always feels like pulling ingredients out of a hat. They picked cucumber, a few slivers of onion, and halved tomatoes. They also pulled arugula out of the hat a few times, making for what should have been a bitter salad, had it not been balanced by the strawberry poppy vin's sweet notes. If you're gonna get a salad, get that dressing. My sandwich I had asked for, ironically without arugula. The garlic aioli wasn't visible upon it's undone display, top bun taunting me with it's pickled red onions. I kept going back for them until my mate pointed out I should assemble my sandwich. I took a quick taste of the thick wedge of mozzarella, which was chewy, without the pull that would have otherwise distracted me from a mildly leaky sandwich. (Thank goodness for proofreading because my phone almost said moldy, so let me just re-emphasize how fresh this place is. Fresh, good food. Okay, carrying on...) The basil balsamic dripped from the thin portobello at the gentlest of tugs, making for a juicy patty, and very wet fingers. Pretty sure I stained their fabric napkin, so sorry Red. (Even if you are a grandpa ghost, because I did get curious and look up the name origin after all, your food deserves respect.) So if you are vacationing in town like us nature junkies, trek over and fill up on good food. read more

The hostess wasn't overly friendly, but luckily we were undeterred (everyone can have a bad day). The bartender took our orders and was so incredibly kind and welcoming. This place had great vegan and vegetarian options, and lots of seafood options for those who don't eat burgers. Very delicious flatbreads. Me and my friends got three kinds and they were all amazing. The crust has a good crunch, the cheese is filling and melted, and the balsamic vinegar complements everything. I ordered loaded cheese fries without bacon and wouldn't quite recommend that option -- something's obviously missing. The fries themselves were a little bit too dry and potato-y for my taste. The crabby patty that I tried on another occasion was too salty. The service, on other hand, was perfect. Would recommend. P.S. I think impossible burgers would be a great fit for their menu. This has really become one of my favorite places to order from while here in Ithaca. All their sandwiches and burgers are unique and all delicious. But for me their real star is the Mac and cheese. The portion is huge for the price and it is topped with chicken tenders. If you have a chance, try it out ! It's very solid American food. read more

I am a 70-year-old, disabled, decorated, former U.S. Air Force Reserve colonel, who served in various critical settings and capacities during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. I am also a black man. On the evening of Tuesday, July 9, 2024, my white girlfriend and I were dining in Red's Place, 107 N Aurora St, Ithaca, NY. It seems we were the wrong racial representation Red's Place wanted to project. First, the manager asked us to leave. Then she said she would seat us outside in the brutal heat. Finally, she placed us in a booth, which we decidedly avoided when we originally entered Red's Place. In response to my review, I am certain the manager will offer excuses, justifications, and explanations. She will even cite that she granted us a complimentary drink. Despite her refutations, the fact is we were removed from our desired seating area--where we were enjoying our meals and each other and were receiving exceptional service from our wait-staffer--to a booth we did not want and to wait-service we did not receive until bidden. When confronted, the manager immediately said "don't pull the race card on me," which suggests my complaint of racist treatment was not her first. Popped in for lunch on the patio. Very good experience. Let's be clear - the french onion soup bowls are what's going to make me remember this joint. It was an appetizer for the flavor gods. I love love love french onion anything, and these were so damn tasty. These little bread rolls of love were the ideal vessels for the french onion soup and melted cheese. I really want these more often - damn I live 4 hours away. The fried chicken sandwich was very tasty with the honey, mustard and pickles. This place did not disappoint!! First time being the the FLX area for my hubby and I. First time in Ithaca! We really loved the vibe here! The staff was very friendly and polite. Our waitress Olivia was great! Her personality made our experience so much better! Everything on the menu sounded so good, but we were in the mood for burgers after hiking Taughannock state park. Just looking at the food that was being served to the others around us just made our mouth water even more. Great prices for great portion sizes and the quality is 10/10! Hubby had the angry pig, and per his words "oooohh this is really good". I haven't had everything on the menu but the by the looks of everything, anything you're in the mood for will probably hit the spot lol! I had the breaking baaaaaad burger. I was skeptical at first because I'm not a fan of tiziki sauce, but this place flipped it upside down and made me like it. The burger was so juicy and tender. The lamb patty cooked to perfection! My hubby and I both had the lemonade which they served in cute mason jars. Totally went with the restaurant theme.Excellent! I'm so happy we made this choice to come here! I had a terrible experience here. I ordered two pesto flatbreads for take-out; one gluten-free, one regular. When I arrived home, I saw that neither of them were marked "gf". I called Red's and asked if they could help to differentiate the flatbreads, as they both looked very similar. I have an allergy and can't take chances. The person who answered the phone didn't know how to differentiate them. She conferred with another staff member who said the gf flatbread should have rounded crust. Neither of the crusts had rounded edges. I asked if the gf crust was thinner, and I was put on hold. I was then hung up on. I waited for several minutes and didn't get a call back. I called back repeatedly and was sent to voicemail. Finally, after calling back numerous times, I reached another employee who directed me to the manager. I explained that I had been hung up on and wasn't helped to differentiate the crusts. The manager was incredibly rude and defensive. He justified my being hung up on by explaining that the business was "slammed" tonight. He then explained that the gf crust was zucchini-based and green, completely different from the regular crust. None of that information had been given to me when I initially called. He asked condescendingly if I'd ever ordered the gluten-free flatbread before. It's not my job to know how your gluten-free flatbread looks or to have ordered it before; it's pretty universal to mark takeout orders with GF. I understand that people make mistakes, businesses get busy, and not every employee may know the ins and outs of differentiating gf crust. But what is totally unacceptable is the way I was treated. Being hung up on, and then gaslit by the manager. How hard is it to apologize, assist me, and own up to a mistake? I'm a local and had been to Red's multiple times (non-takeout) in the past. Definitely do not expect good service if you try to order takeout. Be sure to be an expert on how different crusts look beforehand. I will not be returning. read more

There are lots of burger selections, from typical ones you can get at any shop, to more specialized burgers, to even college-themed ones to give your buddies good-lived memories with a side of heart disease. But jokes aside, great energy and place for hangouts or a burger craving. Had dinner with friends at Red's Place on Saturday, 10/21. The wait was long because it was a Saturday night, but after we ate, I realized why. Everything we ate was outstanding. Wings - crispy and tasty. The French onion soup bowls - wow. I now need to learn how to make them at home. Bang bang shrimp was very tasty. My crab cake sandwich was huge with tons of crab meat. Wonderful gastro-pub with a college town vibe. My wife and I both had flatbreads, I the caprese, she the "Betty White." We were in town visiting and met our cousin here for dinner. It's very low key, low lit, and the waitress let us just take our time figuring out what to order. After the food arrived she pretty much let us just spend time visiting and catching up as we ate. We shared the so cheesy dip which is melted parmesan, mozzarella & fontina, artichoke, arugula dip served with corn tortilla chips. It was quite tasty and more than plenty for three people. My spouse had the clam down which was steamed little neck clams in white wine butter sauce, garlic, parsley & diced tomatoes served with grilled bread that she thought was pretty good. I had the thai sliders that were bigger than I expected, pretty spicy, but with a side of sour cream I could handle the heat! Overall it was a nice experience. Meter parking is steep, but there's a lot just around the corner that's reasonable. read more
