Beef brisket sandwich along with a side salad w avocado lime dressing
    Irene S.

A wonderful place if you want some American fare in Ithaca! Nice decor, featuring pictures of what this location looked like back in the day, even featuring one from the early 1900s. I had the beef brisket sandwich and it was almost perfect (tad dry). The kids enjoyed their kids meal, which were some animal butter pasta with tater tots and another with sweet potato waffle fries. Friendly Service. Would definitely be back!

If you're looking for a spot with great drinks and amazing sandwiches made on ciabatta this is it. Located on the Commons in downtown Ithaca where you can enjoy sitting outside or inside. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive. My friend and I both ordered drinks that were delicious. I got the reds martini and it was so refreshing and fun. We wanted an appetizer and the reds pot of gold caught our eyes. It had the perfect amount of bread for us to share and once we mixed up the sauce and ricotta it just melted in our mouths. We even had extra for us to take home. The menu items have such fun names and the ingredients are fantastic combinations. I got the swim shady and could only eat half because it was so filling. The mahi was cooked perfectly and the arugula and pickled red onion took it straight to flavor town. I was nervous it would be soggy but it was the perfect texture. I got the French onion soup with it and I really wanted to like but it was mostly onion and not much soup. For dessert we saw that they have a rotating cheesecake option so we had to try it. It was Blueberry Cheesecake with vanilla ice cream when we went but I'd definitely be back another day to see what the other rotating cheesecakes are. The blueberry cheesecake was the perfect sweet treat to finish our meal with.

Food was unique and delicious! The service was excellent, attentive and speedy. The general vibe was fun and the decor was cute! The names on the menu were cute too, and my partner decided to listen to the menu which said to "trust us" regarding the pb&j burger and it definitely was worth trusting, very yummy!!!

Interior - A wooden table with a red-cushioned chair is positioned near a red wall in a restaurant interior. The wall displays a large black-and-white photograph of a historic street scene with buildings and trolley tracks. The background includes additional seating, a wooden accent wall, and dim lighting, creating a warm, inviting ambiance.

We've been going to Red's Place for years now. My daughter discovered it while going to college in Ithaca. The interior is a moody and elegant red vibe. The food is amazing! We always get the red sauce and ricotta appetizer. It's so delicious! Service has always been great! Never much of a wait time. You'll find nice seating, as well as a full bar. Highly recommend it!

We enjoyed our lunch at Reds and service was great. We opted for indoor dining but they also offer outdoor seating. I liked the clever names for the menu items, like Romaine Calm salad which I had. Our server was great and kept the refills coming.

Great staff and atmosphere. I had the farm salad with grilled chicken. Fantastic combination of veggies and cheese. 10/10

Sasquash.... GET IT! - The menu lists side dishes including steak fries, tater tots, sweet potato waffle fries, steamed vegetables, and sassquash served cold. The sassquash is roasted butternut squash with candied walnuts, granny smith apples, goat cheese, and apple cider roasted garlic dressing. Additional options include a cup of daily soup and a side salad with various dressings like bleu cheese, ranch, caesar, basil balsamic vinaigrette, jalapeño ranch, apple cider vin, or lemon parsley vin. The menu emphasizes customizable loaded fries with toppings for an extra charge.

Fan-friggin-tastic! If you've stumbled across this review, it's a sure sign to give Red's a try. The place is cute, they have indoor dining as well as outdoor patio dining in the front. Service was spot on. From the second we were told about 15 minutes to them wiping downs a table and seating us in less than 5. Server stopped by right away and took the drink order which provided just enough time to gather our order. We started with the pot of gold which was a lovely tomato concoction with ricotta cheese in the middle. My husband doesn't like ricotta- and this changed his mind about that. When you swirl it with the tomato base... chefs kiss! It's amazing! We ordered a burger that had cheese, apple cider vinegar aioli and bacon jam cooked medium rare which was absolutely perfect! For a side, we ordered the sassquash. I cannot urge you enough to try it! What a lovely burst of flavors and textures. Again, husband does not like squash - but this was amazing and he asked me to try and recreate it at home - yep, that good! Highly recommend this place. I can't wait to go back!

I love a good gastropub, and the ambience at Red's Place is quite enjoyable. Some bar food... a good beer menu... I'm all about it. It's why I've visited / gotten food from Red's Place a couple times now - as well as ordered delivery. Most recently, I was in town and realized I hadn't eaten all day... so you know what? Why not order delivery from Red's! (The availability on services such as Door Dash, which also sends me discount codes regularly, doesn't hurt either.) I placed my order online for the pb & "jellousy" burger with loaded steak fries on the side ($19.75 for the combo), as well as a side salad with lemon parsley vinaigrette ($4.75) because... you know... health reasons, and it wasn't long before my Door Dasher arrived with my order. Unfortunately, even though my Door Dasher was pretty prompt, my loaded steak fries arrived limp and lukewarm (at best). The burger, which was a bit of an experiment for me in terms of the ingredient combination of peanut butter and jelly on a burger, would have perhaps been better with a different meat blend. I don't know... the meat wasn't as appealing and tasted almost... overly sinewy for having been made from ground meat? The peanut butter and jelly combination on a burger was enjoyable, but something about the texture of the patty was off. Is it weird to say that the side salad was the most enjoyable part of my meal? The lemon parsley vinaigrette was quite tasty. That said, I don't want to be out here ordering delivery and just enjoying the side salad... ya know? With the various fees + dasher tip, the order would have been over $35. Thankfully, my trusty discount codes knocked about $12 off the price. Still... was it worth it? No. And perhaps that's the difficult thing about getting food at Red's... sometimes the food sounds promising, but the execution is lacking... and it's just not worth it. :-/

We enjoyed our dinner so much we came back for lunch the next day. My husband got the same burger so he enjoyed his lunch. Me not so much - if you want super sweet bacon on a flatbread that you can barely taste order the proper pig! Bacon overwhelming and salty, balsamic glaze overwhelming and super sweet, can't taste the flatbread or the herbs at all - the goat cheese barely existent and ended up as tiny crunchy little balls. Needs 1/4 of the bacon and glaze, 5x the goat cheese maybe some arugula to cut the other flavors and some roasted vegis to round it out. Disappointed in my lunch, but I was starving so I managed to get some of it down. Should have gone with a burger again :-(

The Farm salad w chicken - A square white plate holds a salad with sliced cooked chicken breast, mixed greens, chopped red bell peppers, green peas, and green beans. The salad is topped with a creamy dressing and small pieces of chopped radish. A glass of water is visible in the background, and the plate is placed on a dark wooden table.

Unique mac and cheese and good gnocchi!…read more I am debating giving the rook 3 or 4 stars... I was not a fan of the salmon mousse... far too salty and I wish it was paired with crisped bread or at least something other than Ritz crackers. I did, however, enjoy the presentation and taste of the macaroni au gratin. The square shape is very unique and I liked the cheese sauce. The lamb w gnocchi was also quite good. Pillowy and soft. The lamb was cooked well. Overall, I would maybe return. I enjoyed the macaroni au gratin as well as the lamb w gnocchi!

Staff was pleasant and quick. The menu is dominated by drink options (cocktails and wines), and happy hour is 4-5pm, which is perfect for an aperitif. The fried chicken is by far their speciality, with the macaroni coming in as a distant second. But while both were delicious, I'd say the best value and taste goes surprisingly to the simple summer salad, which was crisp, sweet, tangy, and refreshing. It's only $10 for a hefty portion of food and I'd order that again anytime (and that's coming from a guy who'd never normally order a salad). My only criticisms are that the Rook doesn't have many entree choices (which may be a good thing for indecisive diners), and that it's very slightly pricey. Otherwise, it's an easy recommend for me.

However, did love the elevated feel of a typical American bistro. We thought the service could've been more attentive, but improved as the evening progressed. Our waitress was super nice and was helpful in explaining the menu specials and answering any questions we had. Most notably on the menu, the NY strip was a perfect medium rare. We opted to get the 4 jumbo shrimp on the side, which we thought retained a nice snap when we bit into it. It was also well seasoned, while still displaying its freshness. The fries complemented the steak, but was too well done for our liking. Our other entree, the lobster mac and cheese, had a nice cheese pull. We liked the added roasted tomatoes in the baked mac and cheese, which gave it a necessary acidity that countered the creamy, cheesy roux. For our appetizer, we chose the meat and cheese board, which was really solid. Appreciated the waitress explaining the selection, as well as the addition of a sour cherry jam and pickles on the side. This gave us a lot of mix and match options (64 to be exact), and we also liked how it came with charred/toasted bread. Finally, we wrapped up with a chocolate peanut butter parfait and key lime pie. Both were really good (get both if possible, but we liked the latter more).

The food menu is now several pages long, including tried-and-true favorites (many gourmet burger varieties, chicken sandwiches (with a Nashville Hot style option), nachos, wings, and salads . . . plus more intriguing fare like kimchi tater tots, a tuna poke bowl, and pork belly burnt ends. The inside has a gorgeous polished wooden bar in the middle for socializing; and while the inside can get crowded at peak times, keep in mind there's an enormous beer garden out back with about 15 picnic tables. And with a well-curated selection of two dozen beers on draft, you're sure to find something you like. But here's the amazing part about my visit: despite it being a weekend evening at the height of the dinner rush, our food came out in less than 10 minutes. And it was SO YUMMY. So keep in mind that, even if the parking lot looks full, there's almost always plenty of room out back. The two folks on the wait staff we interacted with were super nice, down to earth, and did a great job. The ordering process is a little confusing at first if you haven't been there, but the staff members was really helpful at walking us through it. Bottom line: Brewer's is the kind of neighborhood joint that's all too rare in these parts. Highly recommend!
