There aren't a whole lot of places to eat in downtown Antigonish, so we went with Brownstone and…read morecrossed our fingers that it would be good. We were pleasantly surprised! They're located off of the main road in downtown and if you arrive after 4pm, you can park at the metered parking for free! Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by a staff member and told to sit wherever we like. It's a medium sized restaurant with two sections and a small bar. The menu is diverse and prices are on par with the other restaurants in the area. I got the soup of the day for $6.95 which was tomato cheddar and it came with a delicious biscuit! For my entree I went with the steamed mussels for $13.95. It was a decent sized portion and I was extremely pleased with both items that I ordered. Hubby got the Mediterranean Chicken Wrap for $15.95 and loved it! They have a diverse cocktail menu filled with local craft beers, wines, spirits, etc. I had a pint of the Butcher Block Red Ale and it was smooth and somewhat bold. The food came out fast and the service was super friendly! I loved how they had the place all decorated with pumpkins and fall leaves. Very festive! I would highly recommend this place if you're passing through Antigonish!

There are non seafood choices as well including a great hot chicken sandwich. Beer and soft drinks available too. Breakfast is also served. This place is located on the main stretch of the vert touristy and BUSY stretch in Tatamagouche. It's small - about a dozen tables - so expect to wait if you're coming during the obvious hours (lunch/supper). The three of us got the last table for 4 but it was squishy because the place was packed! Service is friendly and quick! We honestly came specifically for the chowder and didn't try anything else because we all planned a visit to the chocolate shop, the brewery and the winery. The soup was a really good sized portion for $14 and it was creamy - something that's often lacking when you order chowder. It comes with two pieces of baguette which is great to dip into the chowder. The only complaint would be is that the chowder really lacks the staples as advertised. We did find LOTS of shrimp in each bowl, but one of us got one rubbery scallop in our bowl where the other two had none. The fish was also very difficult to catch as it seemed very little made it into the bowls. Despite it being very busy, the service was prompt and the food came out fairly quickly. There was an event going on at the winery up the highway so it is possible the menu was rushed that day. Overall, for the price, I really don't have too much to complain about but it would be nice to find more fish in the chowder. Lots of street parking available and they have an extensive menu. Google/Facebook say closed Sundays, but call ahead because we came on a Sunday in the middle of November and they were definitely open. Worth a shot and the rest of the menu looked like it had some great options.
