Fantastic food! We were told by a local that this place has the best seafood on the island, so we had to try it. It definitely didn't disappoint. We enjoyed the lobster roll and fish & chips. So delicious! The beers we got were great too - a blueberry beer and the 1776 IPA. Both were delicious. Service was fine - you order at the counter and pickup at another counter - nothing fancy. They offer outdoor seating only which was wonderful as the day was gorgeous. Oh and the fries. These were amazing. And you get a ton of 'em. So good. This time we got here right at noon, and the line was forming! We were second in line, wait was worth it. I got the lobster 'hamburger'. The only thing that made it a hamburger was the bun. The lobster was cold and they put warmed butter on it. Extra drawn butter would have been good. I would either ask for the lobster roll bun, or just get the lobster roll. It was good, and I would go back, but maybe a different location. The breeze became heavy at times, and would be refreshing save for the fine dust coming off the driveway from the numerous cars coming in and out. We heard the best lobster rolls in PEI were at Richard's, so we ventured about 30 minutes from our hotel to check it out--and it was absolutely worth the relaxing drive. When we arrived, the line was already 20 people deep. We joined in, and to our surprise, it moved pretty quickly. We ordered four lobster rolls and grabbed a seat outside in the blustery wind. In the back of my mind I was thinking, this better be worth it. Then our buzzer went off. When I picked up our lunch and saw the sheer amount of lobster they give you, my first thought was: hell yes, this is worth it. Even sitting outside in the wind and drizzle couldn't take away from what was about to be one of the best meals I've ever had. I've never seen a sandwich packed with this much lobster before. Most restaurants give you a few chunks mixed with filler, but not at Richard's. These rolls were overflowing with big, juicy pieces and just the right amount of mayo. The bun was buttered and toasted to perfection. Honestly, this was probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in my life. If you're anywhere near PEI, do yourself a favor and go to Richard's--you won't regret it. read more

Popular seafood outdoor restaurant serving lobster rolls, fish and chips, fried scallops and fries. There seems to always be a line, but they move quickly to get orders and food to hungry patrons. I got the lobster roll and it was delicious. Great amount of lobster spilling over a roll and a side of chips also. Would definitely recommend. Never had a worth the price - delicious - Lobster Roll until today. It was so packed with tender lobster meat I hardly ate much of the perfectly toasted roll. The lobster had mayonnaise, celery, green and regular onions along with the roll. ( I understand the other way of having it is with just drawn butter - which I don't think they offer but don't quote me!) The place itself has a touristy vibe to it but don't let that turn you away - in fact it adds to the experience. And talk about touristy, check out their attached gift shop. This was the best lobster roll I have ever had! It was very lightly dressed with lemon cutting the rich mayo, it was an enormous portion of lobster! We went to the one at Brackley, where the lines were much shorter than Covehead Wharf. We will go back for sure! read more

Was fortunate enough to eat here multiple times on a 2-week vacation. The fish and chips are to die for. Had my first lobster roll there and it was delicious and packed with lobster. Don't skip the PEI potato fries (chips). This place is right by the beaches and Covehead Lighthouse. It stays very busy, but the line and tables turn fast. Market price today was $29, so it was a tad cheaper than spots in Charlottetown yet it was much more generous. We also had the salad instead of fries, and it was very good and high quality too. I tried Richards at two different locations and at both spots in my opinion the lobster had a texture of being previously frozen. I preferred the buttered version to the mayonnaise one you could taste a little of the lobster, the mayo version was so over seasoned it might as well been a tuna fish spread. Yes come to Richard's for one of the best seafood experiences on PEI...but it helps to come prepared with the right mind set. Namely be prepared to wait, because yes it's worth it. It doesn't matter when you get there, you will experience a wait. As for the food, make no mistake the lobster roll is delightful...BIG chunks of chilled crustacean, light mayo, chives, lemon & celery all on a traditional buttery split-top bun...definitely PEI Top 5 IMO. But the reason why you come and wait upwards of an hour+ is...FISH & CHIPS. Hands down this is THE best on the island if not all of the Maritimes (ok ok I certainly haven't tried them all but you get the point, this is other-worldly type stuff here)! The secret is panko-breading which gives the haddock (no cod here buddy) lightness, flakiness & just the right amount of crunch. The other 'secret sauce' is the secret sauce, as in tartar. It is one of the most unique...I've heard rumors of sun-dried tomato in the mix...but surely there's other secret ingredients, and wowza does it provide the perfect dipper. Fries are fresh-cut PEI tubers and righteous. So bring a book, download a podcast OR better yet, bring a buddy and trade off while one person goes dock jumping off nearby Covehead Wharf to kill the time in the most fun of ways...but ride it out and you'll be glad you did. read more

The lobster role was served in a top-sliced bun and was overflowing with chunks of buttery, whole lobster. The lobster salad had a clean taste that highlighted the meatiness and texture of the lobster. Supported by a perfectly toasted bun, this lobster roll can't be beat! The highlight of the fish and chips was the crispy panko breading, which added a great texture to the flaky and moist fish. Had a great time here. There was a bit of a wait, especially considering we came as part of a great group, but the wait is well worth your time! The perfect way to end your day on PEI! Reasonable prices for such delicious food and beer. I had a lobster burger because it was highly recommended to me. I would also highly recommend it if you really appreciate the taste of lobster. From what I've heard the lobster roll has some herbs and mayonnaise that can impede the lobster flavor whereas the lobster burger is straight lobster, butter and bun! The fries were delicious. Perfectly crisp on the outside while soft and warm on the inside. I loved my Devil "something" beer. I have also had the blueberry beer from the island and I would highly recommend it. It's the most impressive fruity beer I've ever had. If you're on the island during this restaurant's open season I would highly recommend stopping by. read more

Somehow tragically I didn't know about Richard's on my visit to PEI a couple of years ago. I recently read about it in in a Bon Appetit article prior to this past trip. Conveniently, Richard's is located (with parking!) in view of the Covehead Harbour Lighthouse my Great Uncle Hector Panton restored in the '70s. Back to Richard's: there's nothing more to say other than this is THE BEST LOBSTER ROLL EVER‼ I've patronized closed to well over 2 dozen establishments to eat Lobster Rolls from LA to NYC to Cape Cod to PEI -- Richard's takes the prize for the most bountifully stuffed with the sweetest most succulent lobster, hands down. The lobster meat is perfectly mixed with mayo served on a fresh made bun. I could eat this for breakfast, lunch, & dinner! My mum was stunned by the size of it. I posted it on FB to which one of my friends described it affectionately as *that beast*. I could go on... We subbed fries with a house salad that was delicious! Too full from our roll, we had to take our salads to go which made for a nice lunch the next day. I'm super discerning about salad (& lobster) so this was worth noting. Hardly a wait at all this particular day, apparently highly unusual -- it was drizzling outside which proved to me the perfect time to go. I loathe waiting in line so this was truly a gift ;) The setting couldn't be more perfect for lobster lovers as it is located bayside sharing the space with local lobster boats. The view from the upstairs deck is a wonderful view of the water; inside cozy family style picnic-like tables offer more seating. These rolls don't come inexpensive; however the amount & quality of the lobster supports the price. I hesitate to post this as I don't want to wait in line next visit tho I absolutely want this place to become an institution (as if they need my help :) It is really a special spot for Lobster Roll lovers read more

This was very good (not delicious). It's a hole in the wall made from plywood that I'm sure just opens in the summer time. It was fairly quiet cause it is a Monday after all. We ordered the large Scallop plate that consisted of 18 Scallops + hand cut fries. The fries we're delicious & we're hand cut indeed. The scallops were good but not great. Here"s the issue. We asked about the sizes of the orders, our server told us it was 8 scallops for the small order & 18 for the large. Since we were splitting the order we went with the large. It only came with 13 Scallops...they ripped us off of 5 scallops!!!! You can't say anything cause they would just assume that you ate the missing scallops & I didn't count when I got the order (my bad). This for me soured the meal & maybe cut into my enjoyment!! read more

You have to arrive as soon as/BEFORE they open in order to line up. When we got there at 11:30, there was already a huge line. Kind of crazy. You also have to find seats before the whole thing fills up. They have two floors of seating and on the second floor, they have 2 large tables that can easily fit 10 people. After you place the order, you get a little beeper and you can do whatever you want while waiting. That very very convenient! It beeps, you go get your food and you eat! The lobster rolls were very good. The chunks of meat were huge and the bread was toasted to perfection. The salad was also surprisingly delicious. The portions were huge, so I had a lot of leftover fries, which were also delicious. The lobster roll with the side of fries came to 20$, which feels expensive for a fast food item, but I do admit that the portions and the quality can justify it. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I find that it was a little greasy at towards the end of the meal. It was just too much! read more
