    Steamed mussels- yum!
    Stacy S.

There aren't a whole lot of places to eat in downtown Antigonish, so we went with Brownstone and crossed our fingers that it would be good. We were pleasantly surprised! They're located off of the main road in downtown and if you arrive after 4pm, you can park at the metered parking for free! Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by a staff member and told to sit wherever we like. It's a medium sized restaurant with two sections and a small bar. The menu is diverse and prices are on par with the other restaurants in the area. I got the soup of the day for $6.95 which was tomato cheddar and it came with a delicious biscuit! For my entree I went with the steamed mussels for $13.95. It was a decent sized portion and I was extremely pleased with both items that I ordered. Hubby got the Mediterranean Chicken Wrap for $15.95 and loved it! They have a diverse cocktail menu filled with local craft beers, wines, spirits, etc. I had a pint of the Butcher Block Red Ale and it was smooth and somewhat bold. The food came out fast and the service was super friendly! I loved how they had the place all decorated with pumpkins and fall leaves. Very festive! I would highly recommend this place if you're passing through Antigonish!

Our order: steamed mussels, chicken souvlaki, lobster linguine, and local radler and cider Deserving of the highest rated restaurant in Antigonish on Yelp. The steamed mussels were the best I had on my Maritimes trip - the white wine sauce flavor and its umami was fully infused into the meat, and the sauce itself was light enough to drink as a broth. I've not the biggest fan of Greek food (don't @ me) but the chicken souvlaki had a well-balanced mix of spices in addition to being tender and juicy. Maritimes lobster just hits different and the lobster itself provided the pasta with much of its sweet, salty and ocean breeze flavor that paired well with the light cream sauce. Attentive and friendly service, beautiful traditional decor that showcases and celebrates the array of cultures that built present day Antigonish. Long lines, no reservations/walk in only, indoor and outdoor seating available.

Cute outdoor seating and cozy inside space. Hostess and waiter were friendly and helpful. Food was delicious! Menu has so many options! I had the pulled pork sandwich and husband had braised haddock. We were both thrilled with our choices.

Mediterranean Wrap with side soup of the day (chili lime chicken)
    Paige L.

We stopped here for lunch in the middle of a five hour drive. In short, the food was good and the experience was okay. My friend and I each ordered wraps and the side of soup. Our wraps were awesome! Fresh, hearty ingredients true to the menu description. My mediterranean wrap had chunks of chicken breast, olives, feta, lettuce, onion, greek dressing, etc. Delicious and a great proportion of filling to wrap (sometimes you order a wrap and there is wayyyy more wrap than you want!) The chili lime chicken soup of the day was so-so. It was tasty but felt...a bit tired. A cilantro sprig to garnish it would have added some freshness in flavor and color at the very least. The atmosphere was okay. We sat in one of the booths, which are lined up in this skinny side room next to the bathroom. We were near the bathroom and heard all of the loud details from within, from loud paper towel dispenser banging to crying children. There was often a line to the bathroom or people coming back multiple times to see if it was free because it seems that this place only has ONE toilet for the entire restaurant! Unfortunate. The service was friendly. It was also somewhat slow. Our wraps took a while to show up and we hunted down our server to ask for the check. We wondered if it was just busy or if our location back near the bathroom boonies made us a somewhat forgettable table. If I was coming back in town, I'd honestly want to try something new.

Seafood chowder with halibut and salmon yummm!

Traveling from Sydney to Halifax found this place just off the path in a quaint little town and fabulous food. We were looking for a little lunch and this was the place. Service was excellent and the food very tasty. The seafood chowder was very flavorful and lots of seafood. The pizza was also very good we had the sausage and fennel add tomato sauce on the crust as suggested by our server. She was right and a perfect match. If you are making the trip almost dead in the middle of the drive highly recommend

    Lobster Poutine! Yum!

Food was excellent service was superior. Outdoor dinning a plus. Portion size was huge. I had Lobster poutine and couldn't finish it. A large amount of Lobster with a light wine sauce really enjoyed.

Stopped by for a quick snack. Pulled pork poutine, beers and the haddock salmon chowder. All good - in a nice friendly town atmosphere. Good place for ALL.

One of the better restaurants in the area. The portions are quite large and prices are reasonable and affordable. What I am very happy about is their chowder only contains fish. Which is perfect for me because I have an allergy to shell fish and I found that almost all restaurants in this province will serve chowder with lobster/clams/scallops.... so I am unable to order it. The chowder was delicious and was so happy to have a bowl during my trip to Nova Scotia. I also ordered the Braised Haddock and the fish was cooked really well. I even glared at other food coming out of the kitchen and everything looked really good. I wish I had room for dessert. It looked amazing. If I ever come back to Antigonish I would come back.

Pulled pork poutine, lobster linguine, Caesar salad, seafood chowder.

Delicious food during our stay in Antigonish! On the cute Main Street, can't miss it.

    Greek burger. Smoked chowder.
    Corinne R.

Great food. Excellent service. Really fairly priced. The smoked chowder was super yummy- which is huge coming from me since I am not a fan of most smoked foods. We all had something different. Bacon burger. Chicken Souvlaki. Pad Thai . Greek burger. Served fast and hot. I would go back.

Fish and Chips is wonderfully seasoned and the fries were fresh cut. They had a side soup of the day that was also delicious.

Very good paninis and sweet potato fries. I had the veggie panini. It was delicious but could have used more vegetables in it.

They post their soup schedule on their Facebook every week, and we lucked out because my wife has a nostalgic soft-spot for their soup of the day that day, corn chowder. Soups come with a biscuit or roll, and I doubled down on biscuits. The corn chowder was still piping hot after taking everything home and getting set up to eat. The soup was was creamy and smooth, with pops of sweetness and texture from the corn. The biscuits were buttery and lightly flaky, and while the exterior was a bit more firm and roll-like than a typical biscuit, it didn't detract from it. I had also picked up a loaf of whole wheat bread, which was light, airy and moist - great for sandwiches or on its own! On a return visit, it was another batch of soups - the daily special of clam chowder and the alway available, tomato cheddar. The clam chowder was thick and chock full of bits of clam and perfectly bite-size chunks of potato. I went for the roll this time, and it was light, smooth and great for dipping. My wife's tomato cheddar was a great, simple soup. The namesake flavours were front and centre and it had a silky mouthfeel from the added fat of the cheese, but the sauce didn't break and have actual pools of grease. For dessert, I bought a couple of their iced cinnamon rolls. They were light and airy - definitely head and shoulders above the grocery store ones - and a quick run through the microwave softened that butter/cinnamon/sugar mix wonderfully, without completely liquifying the icing. A Slice of Home is a fantastic addition to both the neighbourhood and the town as a whole, bringing thoughtfully made goods at affordable prices.

The menu isn't big, likely due to a small kitchen, with a handful of breakfast and lunch options. Most are fairly standard diner/cafe fare, although British items like their sausage roll and Cornish pasty stuck out as unique offerings. I went with the daily special, a Caribbean-themed breakfast. The salt cod and provisions (slang for local fruit and veg) ties in well to Maritime cuisine thanks to shared colonial roots and the historical shipment of salted fish from the here to the Caribbean. It was served skillet-style (sans skillet) with chunks of potatoes, tomato, plantains, green onion and more topped with two sunny-side-up eggs. The salty hit of fish paired well with the savoury bowl and a little bit of heat added further depth. A roll on the side may or may not have ben particularly Caribbean, but it was great for sopping up the tasty sauce. My wife is an infamous fan of sausage rolls, so that was an easy choice for her. Paired up with one of the day's soup specials - roasted red pepper - it became a proper meal. The meat-to-pastry ratio was quite generous, and the light char at the end of the roll reminded me of the burnt end/open-ended egg rolls in Ottawa. Some mushy peas completed the ode to Britain. The roasted red pepper soup was velvety smooth and delicious. It's easy to see why Stone Soup Cafe is popular with both locals and tourists alike, with a little bit for everyone, and a creative flair to keep things interesting, while nailing the execution.
