Delicious cider on tap!
Julia P.

Friendly staff, good food, gluten free options. Great place to sit down for a meal in a bustling college town not far from the highway.

a glass of beer and a glass of beer

Our order: steamed mussels, chicken souvlaki, lobster linguine, and local radler and cider Deserving of the highest rated restaurant in Antigonish on Yelp. The steamed mussels were the best I had on my Maritimes trip - the white wine sauce flavor and its umami was fully infused into the meat, and the sauce itself was light enough to drink as a broth. I've not the biggest fan of Greek food (don't @ me) but the chicken souvlaki had a well-balanced mix of spices in addition to being tender and juicy. Maritimes lobster just hits different and the lobster itself provided the pasta with much of its sweet, salty and ocean breeze flavor that paired well with the light cream sauce. Attentive and friendly service, beautiful traditional decor that showcases and celebrates the array of cultures that built present day Antigonish. Long lines, no reservations/walk in only, indoor and outdoor seating available.

Braised fish with rice and veggies

Cute outdoor seating and cozy inside space. Hostess and waiter were friendly and helpful. Food was delicious! Menu has so many options! I had the pulled pork sandwich and husband had braised haddock. We were both thrilled with our choices.

Mediterranean Wrap with side soup of the day (chili lime chicken)
Paige L.

We stopped here for lunch in the middle of a five hour drive. In short, the food was good and the experience was okay. My friend and I each ordered wraps and the side of soup. Our wraps were awesome! Fresh, hearty ingredients true to the menu description. My mediterranean wrap had chunks of chicken breast, olives, feta, lettuce, onion, greek dressing, etc. Delicious and a great proportion of filling to wrap (sometimes you order a wrap and there is wayyyy more wrap than you want!) The chili lime chicken soup of the day was so-so. It was tasty but felt...a bit tired. A cilantro sprig to garnish it would have added some freshness in flavor and color at the very least. The atmosphere was okay. We sat in one of the booths, which are lined up in this skinny side room next to the bathroom. We were near the bathroom and heard all of the loud details from within, from loud paper towel dispenser banging to crying children. There was often a line to the bathroom or people coming back multiple times to see if it was free because it seems that this place only has ONE toilet for the entire restaurant! Unfortunate. The service was friendly. It was also somewhat slow. Our wraps took a while to show up and we hunted down our server to ask for the check. We wondered if it was just busy or if our location back near the bathroom boonies made us a somewhat forgettable table. If I was coming back in town, I'd honestly want to try something new.

Seafood chowder with halibut and salmon yummm!
Calvin N.

Traveling from Sydney to Halifax found this place just off the path in a quaint little town and fabulous food. We were looking for a little lunch and this was the place. Service was excellent and the food very tasty. The seafood chowder was very flavorful and lots of seafood. The pizza was also very good we had the sausage and fennel add tomato sauce on the crust as suggested by our server. She was right and a perfect match. If you are making the trip almost dead in the middle of the drive highly recommend

Lobster Poutine! Yum!
Beth L.

Food was excellent service was superior. Outdoor dinning a plus. Portion size was huge. I had Lobster poutine and couldn't finish it. A large amount of Lobster with a light wine sauce really enjoyed.

Stopped by for a quick snack. Pulled pork poutine, beers and the haddock salmon chowder. All good - in a nice friendly town atmosphere. Good place for ALL.

One of the better restaurants in the area. The portions are quite large and prices are reasonable and affordable. What I am very happy about is their chowder only contains fish. Which is perfect for me because I have an allergy to shell fish and I found that almost all restaurants in this province will serve chowder with lobster/clams/scallops.... so I am unable to order it. The chowder was delicious and was so happy to have a bowl during my trip to Nova Scotia. I also ordered the Braised Haddock and the fish was cooked really well. I even glared at other food coming out of the kitchen and everything looked really good. I wish I had room for dessert. It looked amazing. If I ever come back to Antigonish I would come back.

Pulled pork poutine, lobster linguine, Caesar salad, seafood chowder.

Delicious food during our stay in Antigonish! On the cute Main Street, can't miss it.

Greek burger. Smoked chowder.

Meeting a friend there, it came highly recommended on their part. It was nice to have the confirmation of a local, as the interwebs can't always be trusted (says the guy writing internet reviews...). We were luckily able to snag a spot on their bright and spacious enclosed patio! Both their breakfast and lunch menus were options when we arrived, and I was torn in multiple directions. I ended up landing on the fishcakes and salad ($18) instead of the heavier breakfast fishcakes iteration, as I was anticipating a hearty dinner and some greenery would be a bit lighter in the belly than eggs, homefries and toast. Three fishcakes were dotted with salmon, haddock and bright pops of green onion. They had a nice little crust from the griddle, and a chow brought its signature mix of acidity and sweetness to balance things out. The greens were fresh, and candied pecans, goat cheese and tart slices of Granny Smith apple added layers of flavour and texture. My wife's fried chicken sandwich ($19 + $2 sweet potato fries upgrade) was a towering mass of savoury delight. Two pieces of crispy, fried chicken was topped with creamy coleslaw, with some tartness showing up to the party care of the pickles. The SPF were good and crisp, and their chipotle mayo made for delicious dipping. Service was friendly, but needed some nudges on a busy Saturday afternoon. Big bonus points for the baked goods we took home! Ultra-chocolate-y brownies; massive, cheesy cheddar bagels; and a dee-lish-ous (bad spelling added for emphasis) cheddar and jalapeno bread. Justamere isn't just a big fish in a small pond, they're just killing it with both their hot and baked goods.

This fixture of Blue Acres has been around for longer than I've been present on this plane of…read moreexistence, so it's with deep shame that I admit that it was only this spring that I tried it for the first time. While looking for a quick lunch on a sunny Saturday, I was right behind a few other people who just got their food as I was ordering, putting me at the front of the queue. Owner and sole staff member Donna guided me through the highlights of her menu and I settled on the hamburger platter. Several minutes of wonderfully pleasant chit chat with Donna followed while I watched her prepare my food like a well-oiled machine. My food was soon ready, coming tightly packed on a heaped paper plate for me to eat in my car, although you can get it secured for a trip home or elsewhere. The crinkle cut fries, while unsurprisingly from a bag, were spot on, with shatteringly crisp exteriors and light, fluffy interiors. The burger was diner-style par excellence - steamed bun; a beefy, hand-made, griddle-cooked patty; melty cheese; sauteed onions, and some bite from mustard and relish. I should have nixed the ketchup to dial back the sweetness, but this was still a great little burger. A cup of house-made coleslaw was of the creamy variety, but still had a bit of tang to it, which helped cut through the rich meal a little bit. On my return visit, I went with the fish and chips. While it's a box that a lot of restaurants feel they have to check, and they do so poorly with from-frozen, pre-battered fish, I heard that Donna batters it in-house, so I was looking forward to trying it. This was a very good order of F&C. The batter was light and airy, and the two-piece was a good amount of food, with the pieces like the half filets that you'll see around, rather than the one gargantuan piece of fish that pubs often have for shock value. The fish was firm, but tender and flakey and I don't know if tartar sauce was forgotten or isn't offered, but I truly just enjoyed the fish on its own. Ceilidh Drive-In is among a dying breed of old school greasy spoons that do the simple stuff well, and while it took me a while to get there, it won't be long before I'm back.

Look. Normally I would not give this type of establishment (casual dining / pub style food) five…read morestars. But between everyone in our group enjoying their food and the excellent services we received from our server Randi - I can't NOT give it five stars. It's not perfect - but our group was very happy overall. We pit stop in Port Hawkesbury after getting off the ferry at Caribou and making our way to Glenora Distillery Inn. This restaurant had the highest reviews of any restaurant in the area. They were able to accommodate our Group of nine including four adults and five kids. The only issue was that their debit and credit machine was down so they accepted cash only. Outside of that - the food and service were excellent. Our server Randi was excellent at checking on allergy issues we had around eggs and nuts. What we ordered: Starters: - Nachos. Solid. Nothing spectacular. Kids menu: - The Works pizza. The kids liked it. It was pretty basic. Thinner crust and looked like oven baked, but again - the kids that had it said "yummy." - Quesadillas. Really good. One of our kids ordered it without peppers. The first order came with peppers. Randi offered to replace it quickly and immediately - and was apologetic about the mix up. This is one of those service moments that gets you a star added or taken away. The customer first attitude and service was top notch. Thank you Randi. Randi also comped a dessert for that kid as well. Adults: - Crab Cakes. My wife really enjoyed them. I had one bite and they are not my thing - but my wife really wanted crab cakes and they delivered on her expectations fully. Good job! - Maple Spinach Salad as a side is Soooooooooo good. Loved it. Get it. - Seafood Chowder was exactly what other reviews said - made with fresh ingredients, super chunky with lots of seafood and not that many potatoes, and was tasty. One of the top two chowders I've had on this trip. - Fish and Chips was MASSIVE. One piece is plenty, but the update to two pieces is a deal. Manage your stomach space accordingly. We had our desserts packed to go, but a couple of bites of the Turtle Cheesecake and Coconut Cream Poe were delicious. Again, max score I would give on these types of places is four stars because I reserve five stars for my favourite places that you can't miss. But all the food was good - and Randi was really excellent. Randi earned this place a five star review.
