While in the 'Nish for a visit before it was completely overwhelmed with St. F.X. cultists returned to their indoctrination, my wife and I stopped in for lunch at Justamere. Meeting a friend there, it came highly recommended on their part. It was nice to have the confirmation of a local, as the interwebs can't always be trusted (says the guy writing internet reviews...). We were luckily able to snag a spot on their bright and spacious enclosed patio! Both their breakfast and lunch menus were options when we arrived, and I was torn in multiple directions. I ended up landing on the fishcakes and salad ($18) instead of the heavier breakfast fishcakes iteration, as I was anticipating a hearty dinner and some greenery would be a bit lighter in the belly than eggs, homefries and toast. Three fishcakes were dotted with salmon, haddock and bright pops of green onion. They had a nice little crust from the griddle, and a chow brought its signature mix of acidity and sweetness to balance things out. The greens were fresh, and candied pecans, goat cheese and tart slices of Granny Smith apple added layers of flavour and texture. My wife's fried chicken sandwich ($19 + $2 sweet potato fries upgrade) was a towering mass of savoury delight. Two pieces of crispy, fried chicken was topped with creamy coleslaw, with some tartness showing up to the party care of the pickles. The SPF were good and crisp, and their chipotle mayo made for delicious dipping. Service was friendly, but needed some nudges on a busy Saturday afternoon. Big bonus points for the baked goods we took home! Ultra-chocolate-y brownies; massive, cheesy cheddar bagels; and a dee-lish-ous (bad spelling added for emphasis) cheddar and jalapeno bread. Every dish I have tried there so far just blew my mind. My favorite so far are the pancakes, they are most softest, tastiest, sweetest pancakes I have ever had in my life. I highly recommend the place. Their service is incredible too! The waiters and waitresses are incredibly friendly. The ambiance of the place is quite romantic and peaceful. We had a good dinner at Justamere Cafe & Bistro in Antigonish. After driving for much of the day, my friend and I stopped in Antigonish for the evening and decided have dinner at Justamere Cafe based on checking out the dinner menu on their website, which sounded appetizing. They are also open for breakfast and lunch. Justamere Cafe was a bit hard to spot since it's tucked away in the back corner of a large shopping centre (Sobey's/Canadian Tire), adjacent to Cleve's and Boston Pizza. The place did not look that busy when we arrived here around 8PM on a Saturday night. We could sit anywhere we'd like. The atmosphere here is casual upscale with high ceilings, finished wood trim, indoor plants, and overhead hanging lights. The tables for dinner service are covered with linen cloths and set with linen napkins/utensils. There is also covered outside patio seating in front with a nice view of the vast shopping centre parking lot, sea of pavement. Some the menu offerings for dinner include Fish & Chips, Braised Haddock, Pesto Shellfish Linguine, Pork Tenderloin a La Forestiere, 10 oz AAA Rib Eye Steak, Spicy Ginger & Mandarin Vegetable Stir-Fry, Chicken Supreme, Quesadillas, Greek Salad and others. The prices are moderate, lighter fare/pasta $11-$19 and dinner entrees $18-$26. We started out with fresh warm bread and butter, which soft inside and firm outside. For dinner (we shared our entrees), the Grilled Chicken & Roasted Mushroom Alfredo ($15) was prepared with tender juicy sliced grilled chicken, fresh mushrooms (portabella, button, crimini), garlic parmesan cream sauce (not too rich), and linguine (cooked just right). They did not have the Caribbean Jerk Chicken, so we ordered the Fish Cakes (2) with Side Salad ($11) were prepared with haddock, lobster meat, potato, & onion and had a firm texture on the outside, served with a tangy sweet mustard relish. The side salad had fresh lettuce, mesculin greens, red onions, red peppers, and tossed in a creamy house dressing. The food we had tasted fresh and had nice flavours. The service was acceptable for our dinner. The food arrived to our table in about 20 minutes after ordering and we were poured water refills. We passed on dessert and were very satisfied with our dinners. The check total came out to just under $30 with tax and before tip. read more

After a quick look over the menu at Justamere, I was ready to not be happy with my breakfast experience. I'm not a pancake or toast guy, which seemed to make up their two main breakfasts. I decided I would suck it up and just eat, pay and leave a constructive review detailing what I didn't enjoy once I was in the car. It was eat here, or not eat until Truro. When the waitress came to take our order, I choose the big breakfast which consists of 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, toast, 3 meats and home fires. I immediately asked the waitress to exclude the pancakes and toast. To my surprise she immediately recognized the loss of value I would be receiving and countered with "would you like extra anything else instead of the pancakes and toast? How about double meat and some extra homefries?" I was sold! I could not have been more wrong about my preconceived opinion of this place. The food was delicious. The quality of the the ham and bacon were premium. They were predominantly meat and not fatty filled pieces. They were the kind of cuts I'd spend 10 minutes at the supermarket looking for. The hashbrowns did not appear to be store bought, and the coffee was fresh and kept refilled without any policing on my part. I can say with 100% assurance that the next time I am back in Antigonish, I will be making an intentional visit to Justamere to try another item on the menu. Maybe lunch, time will tell. When looking for an upscale yet casual dining experience in Antigonish, Justamere Cafe & Bistro is a great option. We're dined here a few times and each time we walk away with full bellies and a smile on our face. We typically go here for date nights (the inlaws' live nearby and so we're able to go child free thanks to their babysitting offers) so we enjoy the quiet atmosphere and time to relax. The room is airy and light music fills the background with just the right amount of noise to cover the other diners' conversations and keep yours private. Service is always attentive and friendly. The food is rather exceptional in flavour and I've been known to keep repeating "this is AMAZING" many times through a meal :-) On our most recent visit to celebrate our anniversary I sampled the seafood chowder for an appetizer and was not disappointed. Filled with seafood and just the perfect consistency for the cream, it was a hit. I then followed up with the Pork Tenderloin a la Forestiere which is pork tenderloin medallions in a demi cream sauce flavoured by wild mushrooms. Served with seasonal vegetables and Justamere's wonderfully aromatic and wonderful orange ginger basmati it left me wishing I could order another. My husband had the Chicken Supreme which is an oven roasted chicken breast in a sundried tomato and pepper cream sauce. We split a slice of cheesecake for dessert. Attached to an Inn I'm sure they get a fair number of visitors but I also know that the cafe has a great reputation among locals for a truly wonderful meal. In fact, it has become our favourite spot to buy gift certificates for family members for special occassions. read more

We waited and waited for our food. When it arrived two were OK, the third, a frittata, should never have been served. By this point we were all hungry. I pointed out the frittata to the waitress and said we'll eat it but it is burnt. It was taken off the bill. We probably should have sent everything back but that frittata should have never left the kitchen in the first place and they should have held back all the food until it was presentable. Didn't come by to refill coffee, or even to give us our bill. Had to get up to pay at the front. Was not overly busy either. Would not recommend. read more

I have been a weekly (or more) fan of the Justamere Café & Bistro since its inception. Everything about the Justamere is delightful: FOOD, wait staff, ambience, price. Just wish they'd stop teasing me with their decadent desserts!!!! My favorite is definitely the Chicken Mushroom Alfredo. When I order it, I never want the dish to empty. Also enjoy the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich and have been know to camp out on a weekend morning enjoying the BIG breakfast. Nice, crisp bacon, homemade pancakes, sausage, ham (yes, all three meats), two eggs any style, toast, homefries. Great place for celebrating birthdays and anniversaries or just meeting a friend. You'll be very impressed with the quality of the wait staff. The food turn-around time is good as well. Great menu; salads are always consistently good! I'm becoming very hungry.
