We are traveling as a group on motorcycles on our way to Cape Breton island. We booked rooms at the Maritime Inn, and decided to stay on site for cocktails, and a bite to eat. Best decision ever! We enjoyed the seating on the patio. Our server, Antra, was phenomenal with her service, and her bubbly personality. Our orders were spot on, and her menu suggestions were outstanding! I would give her 10 stars, if possible. She is truly a great person! The establishment is blessed to have such a dedicated employee! The food was excellent, they even offered free samples of wood fired pizza that they will be launching soon. That too, was outstanding. Overall, we had an excellent experience. read more

We did not have a great food experience. i let the waitress know i was allergic to bell peppers. i was told i could replace the veggies with a salad. when she brought the dish i got a small ceasar salad that was basically lettuce with dressing on top and a scatter of cheese. i was told i would have to pay for the baked potato if i as making this replacement. so basically i got a piece of fish and a very small ceasar salad which did not look like a ceasar salad at all! no crotons. just a few pieces of lettuce with dressing squirted on top. i tried to voice this to waitress but she got defensive and so i gave up. my daughter got the salmon and it was a very small portion for $25.00. This is the first time ever not leaving a tip. but this was the only way i felt my voice could be heard. and now voicing here. read more

My husband and I had breakfast at the Main Street Cafe this morning. We were staying at the Maritime Inn so it was handy. The breakfast was good and hearty. It came out of the kitchen quick. It was $8. Our server was friendly and helpful. read more

Well, as it turns out the Main Street Cafe has a lot to offer. Not only wonderful servers who are warm and welcoming, but also a very interesting and eclectic menu of really great food. We ate there several times during our stay in Antigonish (at the attached Maritime Inn) and had both grilled and baked salmon, baked Haddock, seafood chowder (2 times for lunch) and the stir fry twice with different sauces. When the weather is nice, they have an outdoor patio available as well. Highly recommend and encourage you try it out. While the appearance is a bit worn, the food and service are excellent. read more

I agree with "He and She I," if we lived anywhere near Antigonish, this place would become a favorite. As it was, my wife and I had taken the overnight ferry from Newfoundland and were headed to Halifax... We'd decided to wait breakfast until we got to Antigonish, because of a restaurant that sadly is no longer there. ...and so we set off on foot looking for a place to eat. A passer-by overheard our plight, and suggested the Main Street Cafe, located inside the Maritime Inn. What luck! We didn't have to wait to be seated; the food was fresh and delicious, and promptly served. Mandy, our wait person, was just terrific! Our coffee was kept hot, and the whole grain bread that came with my meal was wonderful. What's not to like? read more

I am so pleased with this restaurant !! I went here my first night in Antigonish and thought the prices looked a little high but after a few days in the town I realized they were extremely fair priced ... if not under priced for the atmosphere, service and food. This is a very nice place to enjoy a quiet meal without bar patrons .... which seem to be everywhere else. This also means it was very clean considering there was no spilt beer or raunchy conversation. This is not a pub, not fast food and not a pizza joint. It's perfect! read more

We were in town and found this place in Yelp. After reading the menu on line figured we would try it out. The place was quiet, the staff friendly and the food was real good. I had the Bacon wrapped Pork Tender Loin with Blueberry compote and it was amazing. My friend had the stuffed chicken and he said it was amazing as well. Stopped for lunch on our way back to Halifax. My sister in law tried to order the pan fried haddock from the kid's menu and was refused. The server said it was policy that only children under 11 can order. She asked if they could make an exception because she ordered a large bowl of chowder and server said they were doing parents a favor by offering pan friend haddock to kids. They actually lose money by the way they cut the fish. No apologies and no offers to make suggestions in other ways. The food was quite bland. All of our meals were bland. The prices were good but dishes quite small. I wouldn't be opposed to eating here again if I had no choice.. read more

I ate here recently and ordered the ginger beef stir fry with rice noodles. For $18 I received a portion which barely covered half of the very shallow plate. For that price and that size portion I would expect a remarkable stir fry. What I got was basically just a level above what you find at a cheap chinese buffet. The food was just warm, the sauce tasted like it came from a bottle and the beef was obviously frozen. The vegetables tasted fresh though. The taste was just okay and would have been more acceptable if the portion was not so tiny. Seriously, I make rice noodles at home often and what I received on my plate was about half of what the recommended serving size is on most packages you buy at the store. I have had good experiences at the Main Street Cafe in the past so I will give them another shot but I cannot recommend the Ginger Beef unless you are keen to blow a 20 on an average tasting dish that will leave you feeling like making an A&W run because you are still hungry afterwards. Love the Mainstreet Cafe! Whenever we visit family in Ingonish, Cape Breton, Mainstream Cafe is the GoTo restaurant for us. The menu is full of surprises; simple, yet Delicious! The first time we went - I remembered I ordered the waffle breakfast- portion was unexpectedly large like Ihop. :-) Great menu for kids and for everyone. Service is Fantastic, staff very friendly; Food is sure to please the foodie. read more

Well located and good outdoor and indoor spaces. Friendly and timely service who facilitated sharing dishes. Quality of the food had slipped from our visit last year when iMain Street earned a strong four stars. This year Main Street struggled to earn three stars. Saved by the wait staff. Hopefully management will turn the quality coming out of the kitchen around If we see some positive reviews on the food we would come back. read more

This is a lovely little cafe, quiet, and well-served. The breakfasts have great prices, as Michael S. said. The menu is inventive, oatmeal was delicious. We also stopped here for a bowl of soup one afternoon. If we lived in the area, this place would be on our "regular" list. read more

Had an excellent experience. I was persuaded to order the Thai nachos as an appetizer and my life was pretty niches changed. I had never had such amazing nachos in my life, the vegetable Alfredo I had was also nice. But some nights when the crisp moonlight shines through my bedroom window and stars illuminate the sky, I can here the voice of the nachos whistling through the wind, calling my name and I shed a tear for I have not Ben able to have them since I left. read more

Great restaurant with great prices. They aren't kidding when they say they have the Best Breakfast in town. Food is excellent, menu is diverse, prices affordable. Bar area has a great atmosphere and is well stocked. Steak and seafood excellent. Live music Friday evenings, definitely worth trying. read more

Very disappointing. Got a lobster roll and came with overcooked sweet potato fries and a small cole slaw with a really odd taste. Lobster tasted fishy and plain, needed some seasoning. The roll itself tasted like it came from a package and fell apart when you tried to eat it. read more

I ordered the fish and chips. They were brought out promptly by a friendly waitress, but were very soaked in frying oil. I decided I can deal with this so I removed the breading, taste was below average. So I decided to use the tarter sauce which was served in the smallest container I've ever seen. When I asked for another tarter sauce the waitress told me it would be 75 cents. When I asked why she said it was the owners policy. I asked if the 1 piece fish came the one sauce she said yes (I ordered the 3 piece which also came with one ) When I asked to speak to the owner he would not come to the table. So after paying my bill I went to see him, the result was he could care less about my opinion. I asked if the 75 cents made him more money than the 2 deserts we would have ordered, he just looked confused and stated he didn't care ! Sorry for this really long review but my opinion is he is used to dealing with tourists who probably won't ever be back anyway which shows in his lack reasoning.
