V Tropical Bake Shop…read more A small Filipino bakery offering a variety of delicious Filipino savory snacks, sweet treats, and freshly baked goodies. Some items are made in-house, while others may be sourced elsewhere, but there's plenty to explore if you're craving a taste of the Philippines! One of the highlights here is the pandesal, the classic Filipino bread roll. If you've never had freshly baked pandesal, I highly recommend stopping by early in the morning to give it a try. There's just something different about enjoying warm, freshly baked pandesal with a hot cup of coffee. Simple, comforting, and oh-so-good! Here's a little tip: If you're looking for freshly baked pandesal, head straight to the cashier and ask for it. They usually sell them in paper bags containing several rolls, so you'll have a few to enjoy or share. Don't just rely on what's displayed. It's worth asking about a fresh batch! The bakery recently underwent renovations, and the improvements are definitely noticeable. The updated lighting and overall aesthetics give the space a warmer, more inviting atmosphere. It's a nice refresh that makes the bakery feel even more welcoming. Another welcome improvement is their payment options! Before the renovation, this was a CASH-ONLY establishment. Thankfully, they now accept credit cards, tap-to-pay, and other electronic payment methods. Definitely a plus for those who don't normally carry cash! If you're unfamiliar with Filipino baked goods or curious about Filipino delicacies, don't hesitate to step inside and browse their selection. You might just discover a new favorite! Sometimes, it's the simple things, like freshly baked pandesal and a cup of coffee, that really hit the spot.

My partner and I stopped by Cafe 86 in Carson hoping we had found our next go-to halo-halo spot…read more Unfortunately, authenticity and customer service were both missing from the recipe. Parking was easy, and when we walked in, there was only one occupied table. Three employees were chatting in the back. We were greeted, but it felt more like, "What would you like?" than "Welcome in." No smile, no conversation, no thank you--just a transaction. After taking our order, the employee returned to chatting with coworkers. When our order was ready, our name was called, the halo-halo was placed on the counter, and that was the end of the interaction. As for the halo-halo itself, my partner rated it a 2/10. It was overwhelmingly sweet and overpriced for what we received. We were hoping for layers of flavor and nostalgia but got a sugar rush that could probably power a small city. As a business owner myself, I understand that customer service is one of the biggest drivers of customer retention. Great products can bring people in once, but great service brings them back. Unfortunately, this visit missed the mark on both. The good news? These issues are fixable. A little more warmth, engagement, and hospitality would go a long way. Until then, we'll continue our search for our next favorite halo-halo spot.
