The price was very reasonable--honestly, cheap compared to other places. Redman's is a true family business, and you can feel it the moment you walk in. While I was there, the family dog was playing with a mailman who clearly knew them well, the phone was ringing nonstop, customers were paying for repairs, and yet in all that hustle and bustle, there was a genuine sense of community and friendly service. They are very helpful. I was very worried of costs for a smog but it passed and it has happened 2 times now i have to go again for a third biannual smog i do believe they are honest and trustwothy. I ve never gone in for a smog and came out with costly repairs. Just was able to recieve a smog but if your car has been sitting for long periods of time they tell you to drive it about 100 miles first it has to go to san jose and back a couple times from gilroy on the freeway to get it to high enough speeds to know if it will pass. Whatever is a hundred at least. read more

My parents Nissan Xterra stopped working and I live out of town so I was looking for a reliable local shop in Gilroy. A friend recommended Redman's and they also had good reviews. They were very nice and accommodating that we towed the vehicle to them same day. Within a day they diagnosed the car and made a recommendation to change the distributor. Note this is an older Xterra with 200K miles so we were balancing to do more repairs or purchase a new car. Karen was very understanding of that and we agreed to try the recommended repair and reassess if it didn't work. The distributor replacement worked and the car was ready to go within 48 hours. Ever felt robbed by a mechanic? Sadly my first experience with this place made it completely understandable that it's possible for that to happen. Not only am I out of almost $200 for a diagnostic that obviously wasn't accurate being left broken down on the side of the road after leaving this shop being told my car had no issues. I literally called for help and reached a disconnected line. Unable to report these issues until after the weekend only to find out they were too busy to take my car back in yet and that I had to pay for another diagnostic. I ask when would be a good time to come down and speak to the mechanic personally I was told he was unavailable and unable to chat. Insane!! When I finally reached the point to bring it back I called and explained I had already discovered a few codes that came up before I had ever taken the car in and I knew what my vehicle actually needed, I was then given an attitude and being bullied into an argument I obviously lost and was turned away told they didn't want to work on my car after all. Shockingly I happen to be a business owner myself along with relatives who have businesses and we know customer service is key. Thank you Karen for showing me your lack of respect and support unknowingly treating me as nobody. Keep the $ and have a happy holiday from everyone that will being seeing this post and to all I will spread the good news to about your wonderful shop I'll never see again. Horrible. I was looking for a mechanic and chose Redmans after seeing their good reviews. Big mistake. Took my car to fix a electrical problem and steering issue. For the electrical issue, they charged 140+ to replace a fuse, then suggested to replace the whole visor because it caused the short in the first place. I ended up fixing the visor myself, and it works fine. The steering issue? They blamed it on the frame because the car was salvaged. And started to berate the car, stating it's not safe, get your money back and there are a bolts and piece missing. THERE was one bolt missing! I kinda got scared, because I thought these guys know what they are doing, and took the car to a body shop to get checked out. Zero issues with the frame. They said it's a mechanical issue. That's why I had brought it to a mechanic? Stay away!!! Mel is a piece of work, he sarcastically called my car a "Jewel". Not thin skinned, just would expect some respect and customer service. read more

I'm from Michigan, had a check engine light come on. Called the Ford store in Morgan Hill with the code I was getting they said $3200! Found Redman's and took it there, Kevin looked it over, found it needed a "reflash", cost $300! I've driven over 300 miles and no problem what so ever! Also when I parked out front there was a sign next to an American flag that stated "If you're not proud of the Flag and what it stands for... You're not Welcome Here!" Appointment @ 800. 1- front disc breaks and rotors/ 2- rear diff cover replacement w/ new oil. All parts provided by me. Stopped by to see if work had begun @ 930- truck had not moved from when I parked it. Stopped in at 1020 truck was being serviced and checked to see when work would be complete. Told to come back around 1400 hrs. Returned at 1530 hours and work was completed. So far so good. Happy with the work so far and the price. Plan to return with some additional work to be done.... Front coil spring replacement and valve adjustment. Will post another review. read more

WOW! What an experience. I had an 8am appointment but the service monkey doesn't show up till 805 to open up, ok not a huge deal but 8 means doers open computer up and running ready for business at 8 I have an exhaust leak, which obviously needs some cool down time, but I asked what time they'd have an idea what was the problem, the service monkey told she'd know by the end of the day!! I've got news for you SERVICE MONKEY 99% of the people who take their vehicles to you it's their DAILY DRIVER! And needing all day to diagnose an exhaust leak is ridiculous. I'm not a mechanic but I could cool it down in less than an hour. Don't waste your time with this business Oh and by the way the mechanics don't even show up till 9am, a whole hour wasted on what? HANGOVERS??? 4 days later Ford dealer diagnosed the problem in 3 hours (dropped off at 8 called me at 11) so as I suspected it does not take all day to diagnose an exhaust leak. read more

Well, our car broke down on our way home to San Francisco. We asked Siri and for once, Siri actually got something right. She directed us to Redman's Automotive. They were wonderful to us. We had our 8 yr old granddaughter with us and they had an 8 yr old granddaughter on the premises as well as a 3 month old puppy. Well, the kids had a blast while we waited to see if our car could be fixed that day. They bbq'd us burgers for lunch!!! As it turns out, we had to get a part which only came from Ford back east. Karen drove my husband to Enterprise Rent-A-Car there in Gilroy, who had no cars. She then drove him 12 miles to Morgan Hill to another Enterprise. And we finally got on our way. I called him concerning needing a part installed for my vehicle and he hesitated and said well who is this I told him I am a potential customer that would like little information because I am NOT able to drive my vehicle to his shop. A good mechanic is great to find. A great mechanic is even better. I've been using Redman's for some time now, and I've never been disappointed. Kevin, Mel, Karen and everyone there is definitely on top of their game. Recently, I needed some serious upholstery work done. The car is over 18 years old, and the driver's seat was pretty much gone, and the headliner was being held together with Gorilla Tape and prayer. I asked Mel if he knew of any good upholstery shops in town. He told me Kevin does upholstery work. A couple of weeks later, and Mel had located a replacement seat (even the same color). I left the car with the understanding that Redman's would do its best to have it returned to me by this past Friday. I had the car back in 2 days. The seat looks great, and the headliner looks as good as it did when I bought the car new in '94. Kevin, you did a great job, man. Took in my pick up to get smogged, when I called to check on it I was told it needed around $3,000 in additional work. I asked for a quote on just the smog, was told she would get back to me. Next thing I know I get a call from Marx Towing that we owe $1,300.00 in tow and storage fees! They had it towed 2 weeks ago!. I called Redmonds and was told Karen tried to call me numerous times, I only left them my cell phone number and have no missed calls from them and no voice mails. When I asked to talk to Karen I was told she was on vacation. At 3:30 on a Friday afternoon they calmly told me I could bring it right over.
