The second time, they asked me to leave my pickup truck there for two hours and come back to pick it up. Horrible mechanic. I paid almost $3,000 in repairs, they share to come back to get an alignment done. I come back, their tool to perform the alignment is not working. Brought my car in for an oil change with a coupon. They wanted me to pay $15 more for a special oil filter. I told them I had the oil filter in the trunk. Then they said my brakes only had 25% left and I need to change it. I declined because I know how to replace brakes myself. They still charged me the same amount for the oil change despite me providing my own oil filter. I came home and checked my brakes and they were barely half used. It's been 3 months since I made oil change and decided to look at my brake pads again and they still appear halfway used. I called, and they quoted me one price on the phone. When I went in an hour later and asked how much, the guy quoted me twice as much. I started to leave, and we settled on a price $5 more than the phone quote. So...negotiate, if the price seems high. When they were done with the oil change, I asked how things looked underneath, if there were any leaks or anything (I'd crawled under my van before going in, and saw some leak signs). He initially said everything was fine, looked good, but corrected himself a little on the leak. The guy was nice enough to bring me down into the pit and show me, he said that it was so slight it wouldn't be a problem for awhile. I always appreciate when a mechanic takes the time to show me what's going on. These guys are good, I watched them do the oil change and they double checked that all caps were tight. I'd call this place trustworthy based on my interaction (i.e. not trying to sell me repairs or things I don't need), even if they did try to price gouge. Oil change went quick, too! These people saved my life!! I pulled into the shop to get my air filters changed, AFTER having already had the oil changed one month ago by Jiffy Lube in Morgan Hill. TURNS OUT - THERE WAS NO OIL IN MY ENGINE!!!! The staff at FasterLube pulled the dipstick and found barely any oil BECAUSE STUPID JIFFY LUBE DIDN'T TIGHTEN THE DRAIN PLUG PROPERLY. Fortunately, I hadn't been driving the car very much cause I was on vacation for several weeks. But, if FasterLube hadn't gone above and beyond by checking the oil when they didn't have to, I would be out of a car by now. I would never have known that the oil had been leaking out because of Jiffy Lube's incompetence. I'm sooooooo grateful to the staff at FasterLube for finding this problem and correcting it. Of course, I was skeptical at first when they told me. But they showed me the dip stick and showed me the spilled oil all over the inside of the engine. And they showed me how it had been leaking out and covered the exterior of the car as well. The woman who works there even filmed a video of the damage and sent it to my phone so I had proof when I confronted Jiffy Lube. I'm generally not very observant, and I just thought the coating on the exterior of the car was the result of parking under trees dropping sap. I NEVER would have realized the car was leaking all the oil. I'm so grateful to the staff at FasterLube for SAVING MY LIFE! There's no way I could afford to by a new car now. Brought my car in here a couple of times, once to check my engine which suddenly started running very rough to the point the motor would die often, and the car would shake, stutter, and even backfired a couple times! This was obviously very troubling and unexpected, and given it started close to town, in Morgan Hill where I live, I didn't want to drive it too far and needed it checked right away. After driving it to this place, and they checked the engine codes, it was quickly determined the problem was a misfire, likely caused by old. worn, and bad spark plug wires, and spark plugs that were very old as well. I had no idea since I just bought the car from my uncle and didn't realize it wasn't really properly maintained, or serviced. The woman who I was dealing with quoted me almost $300 to change out those bad parts, which I felt was pretty high, but I also realize this is the kind of place you don't rely on for general service, as it's more of an oil change shop. Any repairs would be at a premium given the "convenience" of just dropping by without an appointment. Regardless, the proposed repair and replacement of the parts that I was told were the problem DID fix my car and made it run almost like new. The engine was running smooth as silk afterwards and I noticed an improvement in my gas mileage as well. Even though the repair was rather pricy, it got resolved, and that was much more important. I also did a follow up visit to get a smog check. They got it done in less than 30 minutes. Yes, a bit more than some other shops charge, but convenient and easy. read more

They took the car and told me I needed a oil change. And it wouldent pass with our a oil change. Then I said no just smog it. After 25 minutes, the guy tells me it need a catalytic converter because it's not a stock catalytic converter from the factory and if I didn't have one installed, he would "investigate". I told him to stuff it. I went to another smog place and the guy jacked the car up and told me it was a stock(from Nissan) catalytic converter. Never agree to any additional work, especially not the engine flush which can cause more harm than good. This place was my go-to for years. Two months ago, they broke my intake manifold performing a routine oil change and are now refusing to provide the replacement part or compensation so I can order it. Their first attempt at fixing it took 3 weeks because the wrong part was ordered twice(they had photos of my car, the old broken part and my vin). After my third attempt I was instructed by Daniel Barosa(the acting manager) to contact dodge and order the replacement. He would then write me a check when I brought in a receipt. I went the same day and ordered the manifold. I returned the next day with a receipt from South County Dodge and was told by Daniel that I paid too much and he would not issue me a check. Instead, Daniel called the dealership to check the price while I waited. He came back in to the office and stated he could get it cheaper and would not be issuing me a check. He instead ordered the manifold while talking with the dealership and said I can come pick it up when it arrives. I explained that this was not the agreement and that one was already ordered. He stated that this was the only way I would receive my replacement part. I reluctantly agreed and Daniel told me it would be arriving in 3 days. I returned 5 days later(on the 26th)and was told that the manifold had not arrived. I left and returned 5 days later(on the 3rd) and was told that the manifold was still not in. I left and returned 5 days later and still no manifold. Daniel called the dealership and Dodge confirmed that the part was on order but these guys didn't order the manifold until the 3rd. Dodge stated that the manifold will be delivered Monday the 15th(almost a month from the "original" purchase and two and a half months after the damage was done). As I was leaving Daniel told me that I would not be able to pick up the new manifold without dropping off the old one in return. I explained that this is my only car and that I use it every day to get to work and pick up my kids from daycare. I would need the new manifold to swap in to my vehicle when I can find free time. I would be happy to return the old broken part as soon as I could. Daniel told me that this was unacceptable and would be withholding my new manifold, again modifying the terms of replacing the part they broke. At this point I don't know what to do. I don't have the money to get a rental. We're a single income family of 4 and this is my daily driver. read more

Got the $22.99 oil change coupon on the back of the Safeway receipt. Figured I'd give them a shot since I could just go to the gym while they changed my oil. Get back and the bill is $48. Asked the girl at the checkout to walk me through the charges. My truck did need an extra quart of oil over what the standard special price is, no big deal. But $25 for a quart of oil? She says "oops, I made a mistake" and your new total is $33 after the extra quart and disposal fee. I assume this is standard rip off procedure to get people in for the $22.99 special and then make an extra $15 on them if they are too afraid to speak up. They also told me that I should "speak to the mechanic" because my power steering fluid is leaking. I know this is BS because I've been under the truck myself and there is no issues with that. I do need the ball joints replaced and that's a much more expensive job than anything related to fixing a leak in the power steering system but I guess it would take actual work to fix ball joints, since they are easily visible vs. a phantom power steering fluid leak. I'm sure these 5 star reviews must be friends and family. read more
