I have been bringing my 2002 Lincoln Continental into this repair shop for over seven years for service and repairs, and have spent in excess of $4000.00 for those. On November 14th, 2024, the coolant reservoir was replaced at this shop ($250.31). I drove the mile home, and before I could park it the radiator literally blew up. I phoned Matt and suggested that perhaps a hose or line was not clear, that maybe there was an air pocket, or a hose was not connected, and he replied that it wasn't possible. He told me that I needed to have the radiator replaced, but that it would be over a week before he could do the work. The radiator was replaced on December 5th, 2024 ($822.81). The cost of the coolant reservoir and radiator was over 3/4 of my monthly income. After the radiator was replaced, Matt took my car for a test drive and it was still overheating. He replaced the thermostat while I waited, free of charge (he said it was a holiday gift for me), took it for another test drive and it was still overheating. He and another mechanic then attempted to 'bleed' the coolant air bleeder screw which did nothing. He said that I could take it home, and could drive short distances safely, but that I would need a new water pump installed (for $500.00 +), and I made an appointment to do so for December 17th, 2024. I needed to run an errand on December 12th, 2024 and when I turned the key in the ignition there was nothing, not a single sound. My son-in-law attempted to give me a jump start and still there was nothing. I had the battery tested and it is at 100%. I phoned Matt and all he could say was 'I'm sorry'. He offered no suggestions, help or advice. My engine is seized as the result of shoddy workmanship. My car is no longer operable. I listed it for sale, but no one wants to buy it. Because I cannot leave an inoperable car parked in front of my house I am forced to donate it. This is quite a dilemma for me, and I am actually quite brokenhearted. I am a recovering cancer patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and I relied on my car to get me to medical appointments and the stores. I am elderly and disabled, and my Social Security income is just a little over $1300.00 per month. I most likely will not be able to ever afford to purchase another car. I know that something was not done correctly when the coolant reservoir was installed, and as a result of this I will no longer have a car. Note* Outside of losing some coolant, my car was running perfectly prior to having the work done at Gilroy Car Care. I have owned my car for over ten years, have kept it well maintained, and this is literally breaking my heart. I explain to him what was going on with the car, thinking it was a dead battery or an alternator, but he said he would look into it, and surprisingly enough. Super friendly. Super chill. Their goal really seems to be figuring things out as apposed to most shops who's goal is to charge you for as many things as possible. Got my car towed here after a friend referred me. They told me it was an issue they weren't able to fix (malfunctioning pcm) and that I'd have to go take it to the dealership. It took a few days to arrange another tow. I asked what I owed them; nothing! Last place I went charged 200$ to "diagnose" that my battery was dead. Solid guys. My friend has also had a lot of work done here on multiple cars. Always done well and for a decent price. That's definitely not something you can say about most mechanics! read more

Friendly workers, but they weren't able to help me. I brought in my VW 15Jetta because of an oil leak and a transmission slip issue; the day I brought it in they ran an obd scanner and said it had a few error codes and they'll check it out in a few days, that turns into almost a week. They call me and tell me they dont have an updated computer to read what's wrong with my car. They couldnt even tell me where my car is leaking oil. Outside their shop they have a VW logo, advertising they work on VW cars, really misleading. They didn't charge me which was the only positive thing. I took my car down the street to another shop and they checked my car out in 2 days, told me what was wrong with my car and fixed it 3 days later! read more

I took my 1997 Chevy Corvette in to get my air-conditioning system looked at, and serviced. The owner Chris sounded very pleasant on the phone and told me to bring my car in and they could take a look at the system, and run the tests necessary and would be charging me about $100. After waiting a few hours, I was told by mechanic " Casey" that he DID NOT find anything wrong with the AC system and had added refrigerant. I was very happy about this due to the fact that I have severe health problems, and being in excessive heat can cause me to possibly have Cardiac issues and hyponatremia. ( low sodium). I took a Lyft ride to drop me off at the shop. To pick up my car..When I arrived my car was parked outside. I went to start the car up noticed there was cold air coming out of ONLY the middle vent, but not on the right side. There was hot air coming out on the right side which would be the passenger side. I mentioned this to "Casey" and he said he overlooked ( neglected)going on the other side but had only at felt the cold air coming from the middle. When I start asking him more about why this would happen he started copping a Bad ATTITUDE with me. I happen to be in the Classic car industry, and so I myself am mechanically inclined. When I made a suggestion to him he got really nasty and rude to me and told me to go sit in the waiting room!! He was going to try to charge me for the labor that he supposedly did but never really repaired. Where is the integrity? Luckily the Manager "Matt" told him not to charge me!! I don't know how much "Casey"knows about cars, but obviously seems like not much. I've been collecting Corvettes for years and the kind of information he was giving me seemed a little off so I said something and his attitude got even worse!!I did leave with cold air coming out of the vents after I switched on the AC button. I had cold air for one afternoon. Today I get in my Corvette, And it's blowing all hot air. So the so-called Refrigerant must've leaked out, yet he said my system had NO leaks! I called today 6/14 and asked for the owner, CASEY answered , and said that the manager and owner were both gone for the day. When I told him what was wrong he was again Very rude to me and told me to get it diagnosed somewhere else!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this shop. I also would be careful if someone by the name of "Casey" is going to work on your car. Luckily I am am only out of 1 day wasted!! read more

I decided to go here after reading the other Yelp reviews and I am so glad I did!!! I am up in the area for a couple months for work and tow a Scion xB behind my motorhome. When I was driving around town, I noticed the Scion started pulling hard right and had a fairly aggressive vibration in the wheel. I found this a bit suspicious because I just had tires, front end alignment and a full service done before I left Palm Springs to come up to the area. The first thing I noticed when I pulled in were all the classic cars they had in the shop! Being a gear head myself, I immediately felt like a kid in a candy shop and almost completely forgot about my stupid little tow car! When I explained to Dave [the owner] what the Scion was doing he said he would be happy to take a look, but he was booked so I would have to bring it back. I explained I was kinda in a pinch because I need the car to drive to San Jose every day and I am up here living in a 40' motorhome. He was AWESOME and said let's get you taken care of. He even had someone drive me back to my RV and pick me up later that day when the car was done. Being a tow-car, or as we RVers call them Toad or Dinghy, I expected it got beat up by something on the road. I figured since I was an out-of-towner and was being "squeezed in" I was probably going to get nailed on the bill. Wow was I so wrong and so pleasantly surprised!!!! Dave called me back and told me the right front tire [again all 4 tires were fairly new] had the tread separating. He said everything else on the car looked great and recommended I just replace the tire. I figured it best to replace all 4 of the tires, just for peace of mind, so he quoted me out on a new set and had the work done by mid-afternoon. Dave and his crew are awesome! I also got to meet his wife when I came back to pay the very, very reasonable bill, and she was very sweet! You can tell that this family owned operation takes pride in their shop and their reputation! Now about the classic cars they have in the shop... WOW.. Just WOW..... Being someone who has done over 30 classic car restorations, I have a huge amount of respect for any shop that is filled wth treasures like they have in there. I also know just how picky classic car owners are about who works on their cars, so I can say without a a doubt that this is the place you want to go to!!!! As a matter of fact I am currently working on restoring my childhood car [1973 Corvette Stingray] and will seriously consider shipping it all the way up here when it comes time for the mechanic work to be done. read more

Updating my review and taking one star away. A week after I got my brakes inspected, which involved taking out my front tires, I had to remove one of the tires and I found that the person working on my car had cross threaded and over tightened the lug nuts. As a result the lug nut studs broke while removing the nuts. I cost me money and time to get the studs fixed. I thought a auto shop would use a torque wench! This could be an isolated incident but it did cause me trouble. ------- Old review ----- I recently got my 2001 Hyundai checked at GCC. Check engine light had turned on. I talked to Dave and he gave me good advise on what needs to be done and what must be done. No unnecessary repairs. I'm sorry to say I'm a couple months overdue writing this review but these guys deserve even more than 5 stars! They went above and beyond helping my family out when we had a car emergency on our way to a girls weekend getaway. We broke down suddenly just outside of town and had to quickly find somewhere for the tow truck to take our car. Though they were extremely busy, they made room to accommodate us. The mechanic Casey made a quick assessment of what happened and Matt, the manager, was able to order the needed parts right away. They were both pleasant and professional. They even allowed us and our dogs to stay in their waiting room which had been closed due to Covid precautions. What I most appreciated was how they not only sincerely wanted to get us on our way but they wanted to ensure that the car was perfectly safe to do so. This place is awesome. Very nice people well knowledgeable. They will not take you for a ride like the dealer would. I had them do a lot of work on my Hummer H3. Had them replace water pump, radiator, thermostat, Rear brakes and front diff bushing all for under $2,200. Dealer would have easily charged 3x that amount or more and they did it all in two days. Would have been one day but water pump was a last minute deal and they could not get the part till the next day. If you don't live in Gilroy then it's s little out of the way but well worth it. If you need work on your car take it to them first for an estimate you will not be sorry!! These guys will be my go to shop from now on! read more

Then he offered to replace the pads and re-grease and re-surface the rotors. His update on my car and things that needed to be worked on next was very helpful. My 2002 honda civic was over heating. I had been to another shop which told me it was my headgasket and I got a funny feeling that wasn't right. I took my car to gilroy car care and they took the time to explain a number of things to me and treated me like a person instead of a woman that doesn't know anything about cars. It ended up being my radiator which was a $1200 difference than the head gasket. They didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. They were up front and honest. I have never felt more comfortable having my car fixed. The fact that they take the time to make their customer feel comfortable instead of just taking their money is my biggest compliment to them. I found this auto shop via Yelp. I hadn't really used Yelp before, and wasn't really sure how authentic the reviews actually were. This shop had a 5-star rating, and I wondered if the rating was padded by their friends. Nope - this shop absolutely lived up to it's 5 star rating!!! (which also boosted my confidence in Yelp reviews...) I already had another shop evaluate my car for a performanced problem but they couldn't detect - yet alone fix the problem. (Admittedly, this other shop DID fix another obvious problem which existed (the idiot light was on...) but it just wasn't the particular problem I wanted them to discover and fix...) Diagnosis of the problem requiried taking a fairly lenghty test ride to get a handle on the perfomance problem-pattern. Dale (the owner of GCC) did this, and determined the problem to be ignition related - an area that the other shop did not even detect. Although business IS business, GCC was already pretty busy with prior commitments, and this IS the busy holiday season, but they DID take on my repair and complete it the same day - which was much faster service than I expected. In addition, upon completion of the work, Dave (another employee) went over the actual details of what the fix entailed, pointed out potential future maintenance I may eventually need, and how to recognize the symptoms of when this maintenance is needed. In addition to getting my car repaired, I was given some car maintenance education as well. Dale, his wife, and other employees are very personable. Our conversations went well beyond just the car problem and I just felt very comfortable with the staff - although I had never met any of them before. I have already recommended Gilroy Car Care to my wife, and it is now become my personal garage of choice. read more
