An update to my past review: These guys are top notch! My car had an electrical issue that seemed almost insurmountable, the capable pros at Preferred dug in and rooted out the cause. Great service, quality workmanship and a good value for the money spent. Honest, competent, professional, reliable and just all around nice guys. read more

Brought my 2013 Lexus GS 350 in for a coolant leak and paid about $180 in diagnostic fees. They told me I needed a full radiator, thermostat, and hoses replaced -- quoted around $1,800. Their own paperwork admitted the cooling system only lost 1 psi in 15 minutes and that they couldn't actually find a leak. I got a second opinion at a dealership. The real problem was just the radiator cap -- the worn cap couldn't hold pressure, so the coolant was boiling over and escaping. About $100 to replace, and the car has run perfectly ever since. The cap was even listed on their own quote (a $26 part), but instead of trying the cheap fix first, they pushed a $1,500 radiator job. Either they couldn't diagnose a basic cooling issue or they were counting on me not getting a second opinion. Get your quote checked elsewhere before paying these guys. read more

Was told by a friend that Preferred Automotive was a shop, that had honest, skilled, trustworthy staff. He undersold Preferred, this is a rare establishment with well trained technicians, and point of contact staff that knows what's going on with my trucks. Hard to find a shop that still works to the idea, " honest days of work, for an honest days pay" read more

Is there 10 Stars ??? If there were, you would get my vote. From start to finish, everything was smooth. Andrew got me in same day for new spark plugs, fuel injection cleaning & an oil change. Engine was acting "funny" and I had a trip to Sacramento the next day. Andrew was very professional, patient, understanding and shared car knowledge with me too. He made me feel like family, not just another customer. I also met Dave, the Owner- super nice guy and they offered me a ride home and picked me up when my car was ready! I just called Andrew & told him how great my car ran up & back! More power, felt "smoother" and I got Amazing gas mileage too! WOW - super happy. I definitely recommend going to Preferred Automotive for your vehicle needs. read more

Contacted Patrick and Dave at Preferred Auto to see if they could fix an exhaust leak and change my oil on my Porsche GT4. Brought it in and they were able to diagnose the exhaust leak as a mis-installed O2 sensor from a previous shop. They were able to fix the threads on the manifold saving me from a major expense and install all new O2 sensors. Very happy with the outcome and they did everything in 2 days. They even changed out my Key FOB battery. read more

Just called to get a simple quote for a quick oil change and the lady who answered the phone was instantly annoyed just because I asked for a quote. She said, "I'd assume it depends on how much oil you need." I'm assuming she was referring to the fact that I hadn't yet mentioned my vehicle type. I let her know I'd gladly give her the make and model, and she immediately said "Hold on" and left me on hold without saying anything else. Then a guy named David got on the phone, and based on how he answered, he seemed just as annoyed, maybe even more than the first lady. I had to ask him to give me a quote. I gave him the make, model, and year, and then he asked for the motor size. I said I didn't know, assuming there was only one option. He responded with an irritated tone, "Then we can't quote you." I later looked it up and confirmed the 2014 Honda Odyssey only comes with one motor size, the 3.5L V6. After he finally gave me the quote, I said thank you and he just hung up on me without saying another word. As a customer, it really felt like I was bothering them by simply trying to give them business. A little patience and basic courtesy would have gone a long way. read more

I trust this mechanic they seem very honest and trustworthy they preformed an oil change and coolant flush on my car. The front desk person is also very friendly. -1 star because they charged me $20 to replace my radiator cap because they broke it(that's how you know their honest they told me!!) other than that no complaints! read more

First time there today, they were extremely honest and prices were great! I highly recommend them.

I brought my truck in for suspension work, and it was around 800 bucks. A bit much, but ok. I've taken other vehicles here before, and I WAS happy with the service. They started charging customers 8% for credit card transactions. I am completely disgusted with this change, passing another price increase to the customer. Bad enough, they're charging a premium for hourly labor, now 8% more for a credit card. I think it's completely ridiculous to change us 8% more. I don't mind paying a premium for labor here, they do good work. The 8% more, come one guys... In their defense, a small coupon online is available. They can keep it, Im so tired of being nickeled and dimed. I'm taking my business elsewhere. Completely unsatisfied with the 8% fee. read more

Excellent service and honesty, integrity! I took my car to a dealership dealership said I needed all brakes done. Extremely expensive quote. Took to preferred automotive for a second opinion. I actually did not need brakes and have good life on the current ones that I have! I appreciate the honesty and integrity. This is my new go to mechanic highly recommend them! read more

just picked up my car. 1.) replaced the rotors, I had the owner show me the old rotors because it seemed like BS, and sure enough, there was no rust, looked brand new. When i questioned him about it, he said "i never replace pads without doing rotors"...HA! 2.) same thing with the cabin filter: brand new 3.) wouldn't refund me after I paid THIS SHOP IS FRAUDULENT! read more

From the moment I first called and spoke to Sarah about my urgent engine problem on my 2011 Corvette Grand-Sport, I could tell I was in safe hands. Sarah was able to get my 2011 Corvette Grand Sport in immediately, which was a HUGE help to me because I had to get back to San Francisco that evening. They were able to diagnose the problem, get the new parts from the Chevy dealership, and have my car fixed and ready to go the same day by 5pm! EXCELLENT SERVICE! I was especially impressed by Sarah's ability to answer all my questions regarding my car without having to put me on hold so she could ask the specific person that worked on the car. SHE KNOWS HER STUFF! Made me feel confident I took it to the right place, and I am VERY picky as to where I take my car for any sort of service. Another thing which impressed me was Sarah's excellent communication with me throughout the day. She was sure to keep me updated as new information came along. Personally, texting is the easiest way for me to manage my days, and she was spot on with texting me and replying immediately. I even texted her after they closed because I had a quick question... I expected for her to get back to me the next day when the opened up, but she texted me right back! =) Because of Sarah, now I have a place in the south bay that I can feel comfortable, confident, and safe with bringing my Corvette to! A+++ for the whole team at Preferred Automotive! read more

I contacted this business in a bit of a panic needing to get my battery swapped out in my car right away as I was heading out of town and they said they would be able to accommodate my request. I drove straight there and Patrick helped me out and they were very friendly and fast. I very much appreciated their help and customer service. I highly recommend this business. read more

We just had our Lexus serviced and Preferred Automotive did a fantastic job. I dropped the vehicle off in the morning, got a call a few hours later with all the details, approved the repair, and picked it up the same evening! They used good parts, had fair prices, and even cleaned my wheels. The shop was very clean and inviting. Awesome place! I know where we'll be bringing our vehicles going forward. Update: we just had our other car repaired and they again delivered. A simple fix was found and they took great care to explain things. Five stars again :) read more

They will not give a quote for any standard work. I had to give them my vehicle for the quote. Charged me 169$ to tell me what is broken which I already knew and had quotes from other shops and they quoted me more price than the quotes that I already had. Run.... They also add credit card surcharge extra. Jezzz. read more

Usually my husband has to go all the way to SJ to get his Mercedes serviced. Thanks to our friendly neighbors, they recommended going here (since they have a Mercedes as well). We called and got an appointment for the next day. Pricing is very reasonable compared to taking it the dealership. They also offer transportation for drop off and pick up! Staff is very friendly and attentive. Thanks preferred automotive for saving us the time, gas, and money we would've spend if we kept going to SJ for our car service. We'll definitely be coming back! read more

My 1997 VW golf with AAA two preferred auto motive just recently, like yesterday. I knew my clutch cable went out and unfortunately I knew it could only be the clutch cable. They indicated the clutch was good but the cable needed to be replaced. They said it would take 2.5 hours at $165 rate for labor per hour. my gut instinct indicated highway robbery! 2.5 hours to change a clutch cable only?! I knew this to be incorrect but they had me buy the balls. I was going to pay $625 for a clutch cable until they came to their senses, and realized their labor charges Were grossly estimated. It was re-estimated to only take 1.3 hours so the price dropped to $411. I am very happy about the price tag but mostly I am very happy with the install. Meaning, whoever installed the clutch cable surely dialed it. my car seems to run better and shifts better and I'm very happy with this auto shop and I highly recommend it. I really want to bring my other car here but I live in Santa Clara. Oh thank you Patrick and David for the excellent service. Thank you! read more

I always trust them to do a good job on my vehicle (BMW). Thanks for the competent and personal service!

I am so happy that this shop is available out here I just moved into the Monterey area not to long ago and couldn't find a good diesel shop to work on my truck if it matters I have a 2000 ford f250 7.3. And so no one had any availability to work on my truck or just wouldn't answer my phone calls and I called all the way from Paso to Monterey they took me in the next day and I had my truck towed to them. They fixed my truck in no time at all and didn't oversell me or push unnecessary this or that. These guys are honorable and it's extremely refreshing to not have to deal with a mechanic and wonder if their up charging you for something. They have the availability and the staff here to work on vehicles and get them back on the road and I am very thankful for that. read more

My van was needed to repair A/C. Patrick scheduled the appointment and got fixed the issue. I am really happy with overall services.

I don't recommend going to this company. They checked my car to only tell me what I already knew which was I had a leak. They topped my car off with water and coolant and charged me $100. Come to find out, a bolt was lose that caused the leak but they didn't mention it at all. I'm a woman that was stranded and they took advantage. I will never go back and don't recommend anyone going to this company. read more
