The Best Transmission repair in northern Ca. Ray and his team are Awesome. I highly recommend them.

After checking out multiple shops, I decided to take my car to ray at the transmission clinic for a couple of reasons. First, he's been in gilroy since at least the early 90's. I figured he wouldn't have been in business that long if he was in the habit of screwing over his customers. Second, he's former military and I like supporting veterans. Given the other positive reviews, I expected to get decent service. He's a small independent mechanic with a no frills operation. Ray tells me to bring my car in on Thursday, because he was busy. I come back later that week and drop off my car. Ray then removed the transmission from my car to repair the squeaking noise my clutch was making, rendering it inoperable. Then he stopped working on my car for the next four weeks. Ray began working on other customers cars which were probably better paying than my small job. Week one the excuse was "we are waiting on parts to be delivered ". I knew this was a lie, because all the bearings and parts needed were in stock at the Napa auto parts, two doors down from his shop. Week two he said he was swamped with work, and would get to my car tomorrow. Each day I came to get my car he hadn't made any progress on it. It's about a 4 hour job to fix what needed to be replaced, it took four weeks. By week three, his response became "maybe tomorrow ". What could I do but throw my hands up and wait? My car was apart. By week four, I said this is getting ridiculous, so Ray promised to have my car ready to go by Tuesday at 1:00pm. Promise! By 1 pm the next day my car was not only not ready it was just getting worked on. My ride had to take me back home and I walked to work. Ray had apologized for not having the car ready, he said "sh!% happens, ya know." My car was finished later that day. The damage? $650 for labor (about $130 an hour) and $232 for parts and tax. I feel his prices are fair for the Bay Area. Your experience may vary. I think ray is a decent mechanic, but he has a hard time saying 'no' to other jobs and I suffered as a result. Not the most professional . I'll have my car towed to San Jose next time. I can't recommend this place. read more

Ray helped me out and fixed my car in less than a week! I blew my transmission on my Jetta and the price of a new one was $6000(from VW dealership), Ray rebuilt mine for $2500 and my car runs like it used to! He gave me a 3 year warranty with it as well. read more

I went to see RAY to have my Cadillac CTS looked at thinking a possible transmission problem..He told me I don't have a transmission problem which is Relieving although it seems to be a mechanical. I walked in I asked if they can seal a transmission first off the man behind the desk was rude right when I brought it up he made it seem like I was an idiot and once I said it was a Manuel transmission he straight up said I rather not work on it because it's a hassle. All I needed was to get it sealed and he straight up denied me service what person will decline a customer if that is what they are experts at on transmissions I will never go back and do not recommend on bit if he doesn't have confidence in sealing a Manuel transmission wonder what his work is like. Ray is the best! I have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to cars, and I didn't know what to do or where to go when my engine check light came on in my car. I stopped by here on a whim, less than hopeful, because I always get overcharged for things like this. But right when I got here Ray was extremely kind and honest. He diagnosed my car right on the spot, which only took like 10 minutes... He even brought me over to the diagnostic scanner to show me EXACTLY what came up and what was wrong with my car. He explained everything very clearly and told me the parts I would need replaced. He then quoted me a very fair price and did not even pressure me to get it fixed there.. He wrote down the codes that the scanner brought up and told me to call him back if the engine check light went on again (he had cleared it when he was scanning it) to ensure that there really was a problem needed fixing. I have no knowledge when it comes to car repairs, other than to get it taken care of by someone who knows what they're doing. I called hoping to just get some guidance. Ray answered at 630 on a holiday weekend, and was so sweet. He said he'd diagnose my Acura for free, quoted me for him to rebuild my existing transmission and we talked about family, of all topics. Brought car in for Transmission Rebuild and they failed to fix it 2 times. This brought on more costs and time, which they refused to pay. Don't bother with this place, for it is a gamble with your car, your well-being, your time and your money. In the long run, it would be cheaper, to just bring it to a business covered by BAR and/or to your car's manufacturers (Ex. Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc.), which will properly guarantee less hassle and a proper repair from a trained professional. P.S.
