I had to tow my 4X4 Chevy truck in for tranny work. They did a great job and kept me informed of the progress. I highly recommend them.

would give Lee at Hollister Transmussion zero stars but there isn't an option…read moreHe screwed up two transmissions & does not stand behind his work, the first was a TH 400 for my cousin which I supplied him with quality Hughes components Alto clutches, Kolene steels etc. It failed within 3 weeks, I called Lee told him it was havibg issues, he didnt even attempt to say bring it in let me look at it, just quoted a 90 day guarantee for not using his parts, if course most projects are rarely completed in 90 days it was beyond the warranty even before he got it running I sent the transmission to world known race transmission shop & asked Mike to do a forensic teardown & inspection, the short version is a snap ring for the clutch pack was not fully seated & popped out (poor work & attention to detail period) Trans failure #2 A C4 for Legendary Fabricator Jack Hagemann's 34 coupe all work, core & parts supplied by Lee/Hollister Transmission It lasted 3 test drives, no return phone call to Jack or myself, shows Lee's character & lack of ability or work ethic. Avoid this shop at all cost, & get quality competent work done elsewhere, it is very unfortunate I was forced to compose this review, as Lee's wife sherry is very kind, professional and a nice person, however Lee's lack of communication and how he has failed on all levels not once but twice left me no choice Gary Allen Allen Enginewity

Finally an honest shop... I had a bad clutch master cylinder. I am pretty mechanically inclined and…read moreI knew all that was wrong with the clutch was the master cylinder.. I had them repair the part In question and they didn't come back with, "you also need to replace the slave cylinder, and your clutch is going bad as well." Your new total is $$$$$$$$$$$$. They replace the bad part and the clutch system is as good as new.. In short, they could have attempted to rip me off but they didn't. Prices were fair and turn around was speedy. I would recommend. East Oakland

This review is long overdue, but I've been so busy with work that I'm only now getting around to…read moreit. I wanted to make sure I followed up because I know my review will mean something for this business. I brought my classic Toyota Land Cruiser to Nayarit Transmission in East Oakland for a transmission fluid change. From the start, I felt at ease. Yes, there's a security dog on-site, but the way the owner treats him says everything!he's clearly part of the family, not just for show. As someone who loves dogs, I really respected that. The owner walked me through the whole process, explained why a higher-quality filter gasket was worth it (and he was right the one I had wasn't great), and even saved the old fluid to show the work was done right. He got the job done faster than I expected and at a more-than-fair price. This shop is built on honesty, hard work, and family values. In today's world, that's rare. I highly recommend Nayarit Transmission if you want quality work and someone you can truly trust with your car.

I came to Nayarit because another mechanic at a different shop said my transmission on my 2015…read moreNissan Rogue was damaged and they don't deal with replacing transmissions. A quick perusal of Reddit revealed that Nissan Rogues from this time period were notorious for major problems with the CVT transmissions and there was no fix apart from replacement. I am always a bit terrified of dealing with mechanics because I realize how vulnerable I am to having to trust the expertise of a complete stranger and I have no real independent way of verifying that I am not being taken for a ride. I was fully expecting having to shell out $7000 or more. So, when I rolled up into Nayarit, I was greeted my Marcos. He was friendly and welcoming, and fully explained the history of problems with Nissan Rogue transmissions and why they generally have to be replaced. But he said he wouldn't know for sure until he did a full diagnostic. So, I left my vehicle with him, fully expecting the worse. So, I was quite surprised when Marcos called me and said that perhaps my problem was not my transmission, but instead the transfer case that is attached to the transmission. The transfer case, well, transfers power, between the front and rear axles for all wheel drive. Marcos explained that replacing the transfer case, which is a third of the cost of replacing the transmission, might fix the problem. But he warned me that, sometimes, after replacing the transfer case, they realize the transmission still needs to be replaced. I was cautiously hopeful, but still prepared for the worst. In just two days, Marcos replaced the transfer case, did a full tune-up of the existing transmission, as well as some other severely needed maintenance, and turned my vehicle over to me working perfectly. No need for a new transmission! What??!!? Marcos could have told me I needed a new transmission, and I would have believed him. It is extremely evident that Marcos is extraordinarily trustworthy - he will do a careful diagnostic review of your vehicle, carefully explain exactly what is wrong based on his expertise and experience, and will only repair or replace what is necessary. The cost of his work is very fairly priced. He works fast. He takes great pride in the high quality of his work. He has integrity. What more could you possibly hope for? Thank you, Marcos. You are awesome!

The Best Transmission repair in northern Ca. Ray and his team are Awesome. I highly recommend them.read more

After checking out multiple shops, I decided to take my car to ray at the transmission clinic for a…read morecouple of reasons. First, he's been in gilroy since at least the early 90's. I figured he wouldn't have been in business that long if he was in the habit of screwing over his customers. Second, he's former military and I like supporting veterans. Given the other positive reviews, I expected to get decent service. He's a small independent mechanic with a no frills operation. Ray tells me to bring my car in on Thursday, because he was busy. I come back later that week and drop off my car. Ray then removed the transmission from my car to repair the squeaking noise my clutch was making, rendering it inoperable. Then he stopped working on my car for the next four weeks. Ray began working on other customers cars which were probably better paying than my small job. Week one the excuse was "we are waiting on parts to be delivered ". I knew this was a lie, because all the bearings and parts needed were in stock at the Napa auto parts, two doors down from his shop. Week two he said he was swamped with work, and would get to my car tomorrow. Each day I came to get my car he hadn't made any progress on it. It's about a 4 hour job to fix what needed to be replaced, it took four weeks. By week three, his response became "maybe tomorrow ". What could I do but throw my hands up and wait? My car was apart. By week four, I said this is getting ridiculous, so Ray promised to have my car ready to go by Tuesday at 1:00pm. Promise! By 1 pm the next day my car was not only not ready it was just getting worked on. My ride had to take me back home and I walked to work. Ray had apologized for not having the car ready, he said "sh!% happens, ya know." My car was finished later that day. The damage? $650 for labor (about $130 an hour) and $232 for parts and tax. I feel his prices are fair for the Bay Area. Your experience may vary. I think ray is a decent mechanic, but he has a hard time saying 'no' to other jobs and I suffered as a result. Not the most professional . I'll have my car towed to San Jose next time. I can't recommend this place.
