I want to start off by saying that the customer service I received here was excellent. The tasting associate was very sweet and personable, and nothing that I'm about to say has anything to do with her or the people employed there! I'm not a wine connoisseur. I'll pick up a $6 from the grocery store and call it good. I go tasting every once in a while, but I don't get into the whole "notes of this" "nice nose" kinda stuff. But I will have the occasional $50-80 bottle as a treat. That being said, I got the first wine (I think it was a Pinot gris? Just a white wine) on the flight, looked at my friend (who's a winemaker) and said "this thing has notes of wet dog and sewage". She agreed. I couldn't drink it and it burned the back of my throat when I tried it. The second wine (rose) had notes of sulfur and also burned . It was easier to drink but not great. The Pinot noir was the best, I could actually drink it. Though I've had cheaper bottles that tasted better. It was very watery and didn't have much body to it. The Pinotage was very disappointing. It had too much salinity. I know that the winery was just bought out from the previous owner so they're probably just stuck with whatever he made. I'd like to come back in a couple of years to try some things that the new owners make! I didn't get to try their food, but it did look amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. Nice wine, with the Malbec being the winner for us. Delicious pizza, and great to find a gluten free crust. The live music was awesome. Pretty vineyard. Pleasant service. Seating/chairs could be more comfortable, but that's a super, minor issue. We'd recommend. read more

My rating is based on the wine not the ambiance. We did a tasting each, 5 red and 5 white. The wines were good, we liked the reds better. Had 2 tamales each, pork. This place always has a wonderful welcoming atmosphere, with a great band playing every time we come. They also have great pizza. This is the perfect late night pizza and wine and place to go! Definitely recommend the Tempranillo wine with the Italian sausage pizza! read more

Lackluster wines and aggressive service mean that despite frequent music events and great views, you're better off finding another place to spend a summer afternoon. The owner, Steve, is genuinely pleasant to talk to, but everyone else my mother and I interacted with was gruff, and made it clear we were representatives of the part of their job they hated, rather than the part of their job they enjoyed. read more

I'm new to the area but not to the wine scene. I never met Steve Dunn before but what a weird guy. No doubt about it! I won't be back.

I probably owe this place a re-visit. But, I rode out here during an organized Bike Ride, and this was my 3rd visit of the day. Overall, the wine was "meh" nothing impressed me or intrigued my personal taste buds. (I think I'm spoiled with living in Hillsboro and having the Dundee AVA and Ribbon Ridge AVA in my backyard, it makes even the well-respected-Willamette Valley region seem like grape juice watered down with vinegar to me. So, maybe I have my bar set too high- because in all honesty it is not just RedGate, but pretty much all wineries in the Willamette Valley aren't very pleasing to me) Regardless, the estate was plain and simple, like a lot of Wineries built in the 80's. It was not flamboyant like Californian-rich-designers come out with. It was very humble and quaint. The staff in the tasting room were friendly enough, but not overall charming. Personally, I have no intentions of going back here, but I will keep an open mind when drinking the bottle of wine that my husband bought from this winery. read more

Go for the wine stay for the food and take in the music. The owner and staff are friendly and fun to talk to. Get a pizza, home made tamales or mustard pickles. Kick back with a bottle of superb wine and listen to musicians both local and regional. Diamond Back, Ty Curtis, Ted Vaughn Blue's Band and many more! Worth the short drive from the Salem area.
