The service was wonderful the staff member helping us was so kind and welcoming. We tried the 2019 brut sparkling wine, and it was the perfect balance of crisp and slightly sweet. I usually shy away from sparkling wines because they can feel too heavy, but this one was light, delicate, and incredibly easy to enjoy. We also ordered the blue cheese-stuffed dates with almonds, and they were absolutely delicious! Rich, flavorful, and a perfect pairing with the wine. I do think I would have preferred the goat cheese version, but they were unfortunately out at the time. In fact, it seemed like quite a few items on the small menu were unavailable, which was a bit of a downside. Overall, Chemeketa Cellars is a charming spot with great wine, friendly service, and a unique story behind it. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Salem for a girls day!

The winery has multiple areas to enjoy, including a barrel room with live music, a tasting room, a patio adorned with pizza, ovens, and lots of vineyards to wander through. There is a verse and well stocked menu with plenty of drink options. Their wine is some of the best I've had in the area and is an example of how good a Pinot Noir from Oregon can be. The people who work there are very welcoming and friendly, and made me feel right at home. They have good knowledge of their wines and offerings and have plenty of smiles to hand out. Their flight is affordably priced, and the poor is enough that you can really get a sense for what the wine taste like. I'll pick up a $6 from the grocery store and call it good. I go tasting every once in a while, but I don't get into the whole "notes of this" "nice nose" kinda stuff. But I will have the occasional $50-80 bottle as a treat. That being said, I got the first wine (I think it was a Pinot gris? Just a white wine) on the flight, looked at my friend (who's a winemaker) and said "this thing has notes of wet dog and sewage". She agreed. I couldn't drink it and it burned the back of my throat when I tried it. The second wine (rose) had notes of sulfur and also burned . It was easier to drink but not great. The Pinot noir was the best, I could actually drink it. Though I've had cheaper bottles that tasted better. It was very watery and didn't have much body to it. The Pinotage was very disappointing. It had too much salinity. I know that the winery was just bought out from the previous owner so they're probably just stuck with whatever he made. I'd like to come back in a couple of years to try some things that the new owners make! I didn't get to try their food, but it did look amazing. Again, service was great and very helpful, but the wine was just...not it.

A lot of people gravitate to Dayton and McMinnville. However, there are a lot of great wineries out South. My favorite is Trinity Vineyards. I love the cozy atmosphere as opposed to the cowded tourist wineries. Plus, they have great live music every weekend. Trinity has recently added Friday evening happy hour, and also, their newest addition is a fantastic farm to table food truck that Cindy Parker has mastered the fine art of food fushion.
