Tasting flight.

What a pleasant surprise it was visiting West Hills Vineyards on a sunny Sunday afternoon. This establishment recently opened (June 2022), and I expect word will travel quickly how great this place is. They are still renovating the facility, which includes the former home of Oregon's 18th governor. On site, they have a tasting room, outside patio with a fireplace, gazebos (including a wedding gazebo), and a chapel (coming soon I think) on a beautiful estate just right off the highway outside of West Salem. It felt like home the moment I drove into the parking lot. When I went, my niece and nephew were playing guitars and singing, which was an extra treat for me. If you visit the West Hills Vineyards website, they list the upcoming events. The wines I tried (5 of them) were all very good. In fact, we bought a bottle of Chardonnay there and took two Pino Gris with us. Both were quite refreshing and reasonably priced. The 2019 Pinot Noir was very good as well. They also have other beverage choices: beer for the beer drinkers and non-alcoholic options like lemonade. We also tried the Flatbread, which was a delightful combination of fresh arugula, carmelized onion, roasted radicchio, and goat cheese. The presentation was excellent, and it went well with the Chardonnay. They have a few menu choices, which all look delicious. I will be returning some time soon to try more of them. Service was excellent also. Everyone was attentive and pleasant to interact with. I'm looking forward to visiting West Hills Vineyards again to witness how they are transforming the property and enjoy more good wines and food. It's very nice now, and will be even more impressive as the months go by.

Located just outside of downtown Salem, OR is @westhillsvineyards. The atmosphere is fantastic, the service was great, and the seating is comfortable and cozy. They even have live music on certain days of the week. We had the Charcuterie Board, roasted beet salad with goat cheese and spiced walnuts, and a mixed wine tasting.

What's the deal with the non wine glasses? Everything is good but need to have some decent wine glasses.

Honeywood Winery was a great stop! When I went in I saw a nice wine selection but I was on the hunt…read morefor mead and they indeed did have some. In fact I had an idea they sold it (but don't ask me how and where I got it) so it wasn't really a shot in the dark that they would have it. I got a bottle of the Wild Mead which is more floral and kind of keeps the honey flavor more present. They had plenty of other flavors... berry flavors some I think but this particular one was what I wanted. The service was friendly and I had a nice conversation with the two employees there. The mead itself was wonderful! As I said it is more of a floral flavor with the honey presence at work. Refrigerate it and you got a very refreshing and flavorful beverage to sip with at the end of the day.

I first came across their brand at some tasting rooms on the coast and the Made in Oregon store but this is the first tome going to their headquarters. They do 4 tastings for $10 and have unique varities including some west coast berries like Huckleberry, loganberry and, our favorite of the tasting, Olallieberry. The bottles are also really affordable at around $14. Service was super friendly and great about describing the different flavors.
