Really love the mussels and clams steamers. Chefs kiss with a bit of bread for the white wine. The added fries was a good addition for texture and crunch. The braised short rib was delicious as well. Tender and fatty. Love the balance of carbs, meat and vegetables. Being outdoor in the north beach on a sunny weekend is a total vibe.
This is a beautiful european restaurant full of color and character, and fairly busy on a Friday evening. Glad we made a reservation, as I heard the host tell another couple it would be a one hour wait. We were offered our choice of seating and opted for the heated patio which was covered and enclosed and in close proximity to the live music happening outside the venue. The band was talented and entertaining, performing funk and soul, including songs like Ain't No Sunshine (when she's gone) and Lovely Day. Awesome sounds on the trombone, keyboard, bass, guitar, and vocals, courtesy of Daryl Savage Music. The restaurant offers a nice variety of delicious tapas on their menu. We got the arugula salad, crispy paella balls, risotto funghi porchini, albondigas (beef & pork meatballs) which came with toasted baguette slices, and two glasses of sangria (red and white). The beverages were delightful and topped off with plenty of fresh fruit. Each of the dishes were amazing and made with quality ingredients we could really taste. I especially enjoyed the paella balls and risotto. Wow, such distinct flavors that had me addicted. Plating was lovely as well. Also, staff was attentive and professional, and we were pleased with the service we received here. The place is ideal for date night for sure, the setting offering a nice balance of casual and upscale.
Stopped here for some dessert and a cocktail. Service was great. We shared the tiramisu which was delicious and you get a pretty BIG slice. I also got their espresso martini which was ok. It was made with rum instead of vodka so it had an interesting taste. I will come back to try their tapas menu
Really feels like a hit or miss on the food. I have been to Red Window before, at the recommendation of friends, and was surprised to be disappointed by the all the food which came to my table when I dined here before. However, this time I went again with a friend who assured me the food is fantastic and I was a little bit skeptical but it turned out a bit better this time. We ordered a medley of food: the patatas bravas, the flatbread, the albodigas, the crispy paella balls and the crispy cauliflower. I was especially excited for the patatas bravas as I had tasted them before. They were the highlight of my previous time I had dined here. This time was no exception. Exceptionally crispy flaky and fantastic texture with the multiple layers. The crispy paella balls were also excellent, Very flavorful and what a nice slight crunch to their exterior. Unfortunately I was half disappointed by the rest of the food we ordered The flatbread was just alright, and I regretted we didn't do at least one of the add-ons for it as that likely would have improved it a lot. The albondigas were a lot to get through and I'm glad we were sharing the dish. They went well when paired with the other dishes as it was very one-note with getting through each of the meatballs. The crispy cauliflower had good flavor, but surprisingly were far more mushy than crispy. Red Window has a really nice spot on Columbus, great vibe and friendly staff each time I've visited. They have both interior and heated parklet /outdoor seating. However, the food really feels like there's a only a few standouts on the menu and the rest aren't really bringing more to the table. Peek at other reviews before you go to get an idea of the hits on the menu.
I've randomly stopped by this place on at least two occasions now. Cocktails were fantastic, and the food is unexpectedly refined and really good. The patatas bravas are perfection, and I really enjoyed their smoked salmon crostinis as well. For sf, the prices are also reasonable. Would love the opportunity to try other dishes in the future!
Came here for brunch and honestly had a great experience. The restaurant has a really vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, with colorful walls, unique chairs and both indoor and outdoor seating that makes the whole place feel lively and relaxed. For drinks, they offer a wide variety of cocktails, beers and even mocktails. I decided to go with a mimosa and it was honestly one of the best I've had in a while. You can tell they use fresh orange juice because the flavor was perfectly balanced, not too sweet and not too acidic. Food wise, I ordered the Spanish Burger and it did not disappoint. The burger was fresh, flavorful and clearly made with quality ingredients. It paired perfectly with the crispy fries. The staff were attentive, friendly and service was quick, which made the whole brunch experience even better. Overall, this is a great spot for brunch whether you're a local or visiting the city. I'll definitely be coming back.
This place is such a vibe Highly recommend this place they have live music. It seems to be like on Fridays and Saturdays. It's very cute, beautifully decorated, and cozy feeling I didn't get the opportunity to enjoy any of the food since I stopped in for drinks, but the drinks were beyond delicious and very on them for the holidays The staff was incredibly kind and made every drink feel special Highly recommend this place to anyone in the area
Beautiful Space, amazing service, lovley drinks! We Sat Ont he heated patio and it was such a nice way to enjoy the bussling city while still being toasty. Great cocktail menu and they tasted great, and mocktails too. Our server was so kind, attentive, and always checked in on us! The food for me was just okay. The serving and price were reasonable and quite big would definitely return for drinks again but probably not for food. There are a few vegetarian options!
I'm not sure the bands name but the lead singer was lit. King David, a Nigerian king indeed. Vocals and band had many dancing in these streets. It was fabulous people watching. The live music schedule is on their website but I wish the band names were listed to return for more. I grabbed a table at Red Window for an hour. We sipped on festive cocktails ($17) in very fun mugs. If you really must know, the mugs are from Target. But the moment, priceless. The holiday decor at Red Window will get you in a festive mood, guaranteed.
Fun spot for a group dinner! They were very accommodating for a large group of 20 people. We sat outside in the heated covered patio (dog friendly also). It was very easy to make a reservation through OpenTable. The service was a little chaotic and they forgot some things/messed up who got what but that is expected with a group of 20 people. I appreciated the staff's patience and efficiency as they took our order. My favorite things I tried were the holiday eggnog drink, short rib, patatas bravas, and the mac and cheese. A little pricey for what it is, but I enjoyed the vibes of the place. The Christmas decorations were up which made the whole area feel super festive and cozy!
randomly found this spot. was craving a burger and saw the chicken sandwich on the menu. started with n/a passionfruit drink (cool kids menu). SO so good. loved it. truly felt like a cool kid. the coconut mojito mocktail was also pretty good. for starter, got the crispy paella balls. they were pretty good. id get them again. for main, got the spanish fried chicken sandwich. I wasn't a fan of how the chicken itself was cooked. not like a regular chicken breast. not sure if it was dark or light meat. but flavors themselves were good. ambiance was really nice. they had indoor and outdoor seating. the service was also quick.
THE BIG: Italian restaurant located in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. Super lively and energetic area of SF with the restaurant boasting indoor/outdoor seating options. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here for dinner after exploring SF and worked up an appetite. We didn't have a reservation but it was early enough that we were able to snag a walk-in table outside. There was also live music that kept us entertained on the corner of the street. We ordered the braised short rib, risotto funghi porcini, crispy paella balls, brussels, and patatas bravas. My favorite bite was definitely the patatas bravas. They are cubed and layered in a nice mouth feel way. The risotto funghi was a lil too salty for me but still enjoyable. Second favorite bite was the brussel sprouts. Service was a bit slow and I had to wave them down even though there was almost no one in the restaurant. That's the only ding I have to give. THE FINAL BAMBOO: The total bill for this great meal was around $100. Food was great, ambiance was great, area was great. All around a great time :)
To uphold a restaurant in a prime location is not easy. If you suck, you're out. Located in a busy corner of North Beach, Red Window is hanging in there I must say. To be honest, I have had better tapas in the city over the years but I have a few favorites here as well. Not a big fan of their Sangria (too much ice dilluted the drink within minutes) perhaps this is more of a tourist trap, similar to Japanese food you find inside the malls of Japantown. Not terrible, but not astonishing either. However, a couple of things that stood out when we were here: the Patatas Bravas and the Spanish Brothy Rice. In general, their dishes are on the saltier side, so keep yourself hydrated as you go. The Patatas Bravas are potatoes that have been pressed and then sliced to cubes before they fry them. Very greasy but quite tasty. The Spanish Brothy Rice is exactly what it is, seasoned rice with seafood and sausage with lots of extra gravy that it resembles soup. Almost like a soupy Paella or a Gumbo. Appropriate wintery food. We also tried a couple of their fried croquettas, they taste pretty good but not at the right temperature. I like mine pipping hot but they were lukewarm. The restaurant was not too busy the night we were there so service was quite smooth and the staff was generally nice and attentive. I would perhaps come back and try other drinks and see if they might be better or the other food and see if they have toned down the salty. read more

I wandered into Red Window for Saturday brunch after hearing great live music outside. It is a very cute eatery right in the heart of North Beach. There were a lot of really great options on the menu. They are listed as tapas, but the serving sizes were pleasantly larger than expected. I ordered 3 dishes for two people and we were beyond stuffed at the end. Patatas Bravas - There's a reason why everyone gets it. Easily the best thing we ordered. Potato perfection. Pork Hash - Quite good. Pork was pleasantly tender. Everything was cut larger than I expected for a hash. Veggies were a touch bland. Baked Egg - Delicious. Sauce was very tasty and the bacon was a nice touch. Eggs were slightly overcooked but still so yummy! The space is very cute with extensive indoor and outdoor seating. Prices are pretty good for the area. The live music creates a very welcome atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and took good care of customers. Definitely worth a visit! read more
One of the best new restaurants in SF! Seriously everything on the menu is amazing - you can't go wrong. Bring a group so you can try a bit of everything! The low ABV cocktail menu is a perfect pairing with the atmosphere of the restaurant. Some feature tableside mixology. Try the Sucker Punch with a rosemary infused smoke bubble. Starting with the Pintxos, 1-2 bites, you could seriously just eat all 12 and have an amazing meal. Personal favorites are the Bacalao (salt cod, potato, piperade - add a squeeze of lemon if you can), Jamón croqueta with béchamel, warm oxtail crostini, crispy mushroom skewer, and the crispy meatball. The Tapas menu is equally delicious and you'll want to order everything. You MUST get the Patatas Bravas. They have no business being that crispy and fluffy with a duo of romesco and aioli. The Tortilla Española is egg, potato, and tortilla goodness. The Gambas with butter, garlic, and herbs is delicious - you'll want plenty of bread to soak up the butter at the end. The queso fundido is exactly as it sounds - melted cheese with bread. The drizzle of balsamic elevates the queso fundido that hits your sweet, salty, and umami taste buds. The star of the tapas is the huge pork shank with white beans - falls right off the bone and is absolutely delicious. I recommend skipping dessert and getting another cocktail or walking off the amazing food while you find a gelato spot in North Beach. Do not sleep on Red Window! Great food, top notch service, and an amazing atmosphere! read more

Fun tapas spot- central location which is great for people watching. Interesting low proof cocktails and tasty food. We tried a variety but the hits were the patatas bravas and the paella poppers. Misses- the crispy meatballs and sadly the basque cheesecake (I was excited to find it on the menu, but it was too salty for me). Overall a cute and colorful new spot. Will be back to try the little window where you can get empanadas and drinks to go read more
Delightful outdoor place that I've been watching and waiting for. Spritzer was refreshing. Pork main was recommended but we wanted something light so ordered mushroom skewers, 3 croquettes, and garlic shrimp. Ended up doubling down on the shrimp order later - it was so good! Sweet empanada with apple was delicious with pastry that wasn't too thick. Basque cheesecake was delightful but I could have done without the caramel sauce. read more
I had heard of red window from some friends before, and it mostly lived up to the hype. We sat at the bar, where we chatted with the very friendly and fun bartender (wish I knew his name). We just ordered wine but the tropical cocktails he was making looked amazing. We ordered the patatas Bravas (so good and flaky but we wish there were more), meatballs, shrimp, and chicken wings. The wings and potatoes were definitely the best dishes. I'll be back to try their cocktails and other dishes too. read more

I'm not one to complain about portion size esp if the food is good and I really was looking forward to trying red window since we live right down the street... but $19 for this jamon was upsetting. I mean we ordered $100 worth of food for 2 people from Tock and surprised that they skimped us on the portion to make a few extra bucks. Just left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Went here with some friends on 4/25/2021. Had a blast! Usually go out for Italian in North Beach but was craving tapas! I heard about this restaurant through a friend who works in the industry - its very new and I have a feeling will be featured in Eater SF very soon. Highlights: Cocktails - they were creative, fun and delicious Croquetes - recommend ordering each one! Make sure everyone gets their own crispy meatball. It was the best single bite of the night. Paella Popper - While the restaurant doesnt have paella, it does have this, which i enjoyed because it was served quick and you could taste the saffron flavors. Usually you have to wait 45 minutes minimum for a paella, but these were perfect substitutes Crostini - both the tuna and oxtail crostinis stood out. I was hesitant at first to try the tuna one, but the flavors were so delicious Skewers - these were fun and brought european flavors that I don't usually see in America. My favorite was the crispy mushroom with cheese custard. Tapas - ordered the patatas bravas, chilled octopus, gambas, queso fundido tortilla espanola, brothy rice and pork shank. All were good. The patatas bravas were better than the ones I've had at La Marcha. Highly recommend. The rotilla espanola was delicious and made for good leftovers the following morning. The brothy rice was missing something however. I'm not sure if I was expecting paella and thats why i was dissapointed, but it didnt meet my expectations. The pork shank was delicoius and had nice crispy skin to enjoy. Will be back soon! read more

I came here on a Friday night with one of my friends - we were in the mood for some light dinner/snacks and this was definitely a great option. I loved That the menu was family style, Which allowed you to try a variety of different items. We had gotten a few of the smaller plates to share, as well as the pasta with chicken. Overall the food was decent, the brussels sprouts (unfortunately did not get a picture since we devoured them right away!) had a lovely lemon and garlic flavor, as well as roasted fennel seeds. I love a good croquette and these were vegetarian friendly options that definitely hit the spot! The patatas bravas were really lovely when they first came out and were warm, however after a little bit when they were cooler they definitely did not have the same texture. My least favorite item was probably the pasta, but that was also because I did have an allergic reaction to them (I am allergic to lentils and chickpeas so I wasn't sure if that was causing the reaction, but either way it was not listed on the menu. Just something to keep in mind when ordering - I definitely should've asked our waiter about this before hand.) Overall the vibe of the restaurant is very lively and colorful - especially coming on a Friday night it was a packed house and was lovely to see a sunset and have a nice spring day in San Francisco. I also do love the location that it is in North Beach and there's so many other bars restaurants and bakeries nearby to check out after or before your dinner. read more

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Red Window,…
We got the patatas bravas, tortilla, and cauliflower bocadillo for lunch. The patatas bravas were fantastic -- forgot what the technique is called but it's lots of thin slices of potatoes squished together, cut up into squares and deep fried. They were well cooked, nicely salted, and paired well with the aioli and romesco sauce. I didn't love the tortilla, as it was overcooked and undersalted. The cauliflower bocadillo was surprisingly good; the cauliflower had a shwarma-ish seasoning for a lack of a better descriptor, and the sandwich overall had a nice bite. The three dishes fed us two easily, and I thought the pricing was pretty fair. read more
I came here on a Wednesday night with my college friend after work. We got seated at the corner of a nice lively colorful designed store and started with a cocktail with nice citrus and a flower. All dishes were not only tasty but also aesthetic which was very pleasant and made our experience nicer for our birthday celebrations. We got meat croquettas, mushroom skewers, beet salad, patatas bravas, and arroz con pollos. I felt the menu was a little small compared to other tapas restaurant where they have more non-carb tapas options but I liked how the pinxios were a little more creative and innovative than other places. The skewer was very tasty and nicely salty and fried. I really liked the flavor of the dressing for the salad and even the beets which I usually don't like tasted good but there were too much dressing. The patatas bravas super pretty and my friend really liked it. The server was also gentle and dealt with our timing of ordering, eating, and the check smoothly. I really liked the ambience the service of the place and liked how it was not too crowded. Would love to try here again with more friends so that we could order more tapas. read more

Was walking back from yoga and past the "little red window" and decided to check it out. I waited at the window to order for a while, gave up and walked around to the hostess who asked me to go back to the window. Waited another couple minutes for someone to take my order. I got 2 empanadas and batatas bravas and it ended up being around $25 which felt pretty steep. I got the Spanish style chorizo and meat empanadas. They were pretty good, great dough and the filling was super flavorful. I think the chorizo was a little salty. I got the herb sauce as well which worked really well with the flavors. Took around 10-15mins to come out. By the time I got home (short walk), the batatas bravas weren't crunchy due to steaming in the packaging. Overall, might come back if I sit down with friends bc it's fun vibes with music and the food was pretty good but wouldn't order out again. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place! Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco now! The food is not only delicious but also very innovative! Let's start with the patatas bravas...I don't even like potatoes...but these are DELICIOUS!!!! They do this sort of accordion cut on them and they are so flavorful and the texture is perfection! The mushroom skewer is fried in a way that the texture is so interesting. Crunchy and soft at the same time. The red pepper on it is a nice little kick. Every single dish I've had there is fantastic. The cocktails...AMAZING! The Garibaldi is my favorite. It's like an Orange creamsicle with a bitter kick to it. They use a cool vegan foam that still gives that texture of having egg whites in it. Again, very innovative. Along with amazing food, each and every person I've interacted with at Red Window has been so friendly and kind and amazing. If you haven't been here, GO. If you have, GO AGAIN! read more
