Super frustrating waste of time. Twice he didn't show, spoke 3 times on phone, left another three voice messages and sent 4 emails. The last time we spoke it was left at "I'm your guy, you have my word I'll be there"...and then he didn't show again. Unprofessional and rude. read more

We called Scott based on his excellent Yelp reviews as well. After a bit of phone tag, he came out to inspect our roof and provided two options. We went with the lesser cost option as we expect to complete a full roof job in the near future. His team arrived as agreed and completed the work efficiently. Unfortunately, after a bit of cold and wet weather (roughly a month later), we found ourselves with puckering on the again. We reached out to Scotty who indicated he'd come out to inspect the issue. Two attempts later to reach him, no response. In short, the work quality was Good - no leaking, but workmanship so-so and the responsiveness weak. The old adage holds true - you get what you pay for. read more

Winter was approaching and I had a roof problem. To my relief, Scott came out the same day I called him and evaluated a problem with my chimney - broken mortar letting in rain/moisture. He quoted a fair price but when his workman came out they saw yet a bigger problem, a 3' x 8' torn section of my shingle roof! Gratefully there was still one fair day remaining when they could patch the job. Assured that this would last through winter snows and spring rains, I applaud his responsiveness and trust his 30 years experience. read more

Scotty did a decent job on our roof about 5 years ago, but he left us with a problem that we're still trying to resolve. We have a graystone two-flat with a flat roof; the roof is designed to drain to a central downspout. Scotty decided it was a good idea to move the downspout to the corner of the gutter. We had problems with the gutter overflowing as a result of this change. I called him repeatedly over a period of several months to discuss the problem. When he finally called me back, he insisted that what he'd done was fine and denied that the problems had anything to do with the change he made. We had to have another company come in and replace the gutter to correct the problem. He also failed to notice that there was significant deterioration in the exterior masonry of one of our chimneys. The people who replaced our chimney were surprised that the person who worked on our roof hadn't mentioned the issue, because it was so severe and so obvious. His work on the roof itself was adequate, but his performance on the job as a whole was not com pletely satisfactory. read more

Scotty never followed up on a request to provide an estimate, so he will not get a second chance.

Scott was very communicative and sent lots of pictures so that we knew what was going on the whole time. He also seemed reasonably priced.

Came out the same day-fixed my leak...quick & efficient!

I called Scotty, based on his excellent Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. I had a leak and stain in my living room ceiling, which I figured was going to be a big expensive hassle. After running up on the roof a few times, Scotty made a simple fix, and gave me a lot of useful information on taking care of my roof in the next few years. Since he came 5 days ago, we've had 2 big rain storms, and no leaking! read more

I previously gave Scotty at Red Sun 5 stars. I called him to provide a licensed inspection. After work was completed (apparently quality work btw) he provided me with a bogus license number. I had to hire a second appropriately licensed contractor. I ended up delaying my closing and paying about 300 dollars extra. Quality work but if you need certified licensed work, look elsewhere. read more

I took the morning off work so that Scotty could come by and give me an estimate. He didn't show. I called him, and he said he was just too busy with another project, and asked to reschedule for the next day. When he came by the next day, he didn't bring a ladder, which is something that a roofer might want to bring in order to make a proper estimate. Three months later, and after a couple email exchanges, I still don't have an estimate from him. I guess he has enough work to keep him busy and doesn't need any new business. read more

While I was very satisfied with the repair work done by Red Sun Roofing, I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed when I contacted them for an estimate to replace my roof and they never followed through. Bummer. read more

Scott did a great job for us recently. A recent storm caused some crazy leaking in my roof. I was worried that I might have some internal damage to my walls and ceiling if another storm hit us. I called Scott and left him a message. He called me right back within minutes and told me he could come by the next day to take a look. When he came by, he explained what was wrong, took pictures (since I wasn't going to go up on the roof myself) to show me and told me that he could fix the problem pretty simply without having to replace the entire section of the roof. Two days later, he came by and within a couple hours, it was all taken care of! Before he left, he also told me that he would insure the work for a year. Thank you Scott! I would definitely recommend and use again (but here's to hoping that I won't need to!). read more

Scotty came over, gave a fair opinion of the work needed to be done, and offered a solution. He worked with me on price and said if the solution wasn't correct he wouldn't charge me for it until we found the correct solution. Very impressive and would highly recommend him. read more

Scott did a great job of diagnosing the problems and solutions with my roof. The guys did a great job, fixed everything they said they would, and the price was very reasonable. read more

Scott was amazing! He came to our home in the middle of chicago one hour after calling him about a concern of our bedroom ceiling leaking/roofing issues. It was extremely cold outside, and he was without crew, but he still took the time to come see our family. He was polite, attentive, respectful of our culture and home, and gave us very good advice. My parents were very frightened because of the extent of leakage/roofing issues that happened that morning, and he did all he could to calm us down, educate us about roofing, and even provided advice for what to tell any other roofer we would work for. Scott is a great roofer and seems very genuine. We whole heartedly recommend him. read more

Scott was wonderful!! I found him using yelp and noticed he has great reviews. We were in the process of buying a house and needed an estimate on how much work was needed on the roof in order to start negotiations for the house. He came to the house a couple days after I called and then called me back with a very through and detailed explanation of everything I needed to know! I really appreciated how much time he took to make sure I understood everything about the roof! read more

Scotty was an incredible help to us. He weatherproofed our exterior, sprayed our masonry, and repaired our joints and cracks. His prices were extremely reasonable, attitude was stellar. You can tell he's passionate about what he does! And so freaking funny. My husband says he needs a Bravo show. read more

Scott was very helpful for me with dealing with suggestions on what the cause of a leak might be. He looked at videos and pictures and followed up with me when others were leaving me hanging. This kind of follow up is refreshing and really rare in this industry. read more

I would give this company 10 stars if I could. Our roof has been leaking for over a year now, we have had multiple people come out and even spent a lot of $ on a new roof. Scott came out and within minutes told me why it was still leaking. A few days later he fixed the problem and it no longer rains inside! I wish I had called him earlier. I will use them again. read more

Scott was a tremendous help with my roof inspection. He provided great insight and in timely manner. Scott takes he job very seriously and it shows that in his interactions. Scott is an expert and is willing to spend time with his customers to explain his findings and expert suggestions. When it comes to roofs, Scott will own my business forever! read more

If you're seeking for the best roofing service, then you are on the right page. None can offer you best services as they can. Harry came to our house along with 2 of his men. The way they checked in the roofs, told about the exact cause for the leakage and then explained us the precautions to be taken was incredible and reflects their professionalism. Knowledgeable and courteous. Whilst in the interaction I had with them, they seems to be very friendly. They replaced our roof along with front wooden trellis really quick. Truly a reliable and wonderful company with adorable staff and amazing services. Gonna call them whenever I want to get any roofing service. read more

Scotty did a terrific job fixing what we thought was just a small isolated leak at our chimney but turned out to be a bit more. He explained what was causing the problem in the first place, and how to fix the whole chimney area thoroughly instead of just the leak we had noticed, so that it wouldn't just happen right away again. He ended up doing quite a bit more work than we initially realized we needed, but the price was still very reasonable and didn't increase when he got up on the roof and saw how much worse the situation was than we had expected. read more

I highly recommend Scotty and the crew at Red Sun. As first time homeowners we were a little nervous about overpaying for repairs, but Scotty was courteous, professional, and thorough during the whole process. He did a nice job explaining to us exactly what needed to be done and we were very happy with our bill as it seemed extremely reasonable and fair. we'll definitely call him again in the future should we need more work. read more

I live in a condo on the top floor. So, if anyone is going to see roof damage first. That would be me. One morning back in Sept. it was raining in my bedroom. I was not a happy camper. After letting the HOA know what was going on I hit the net for roof repairs. I read many reviews on a few local roofing companies and picked the top 3 based on reviews. Other owners in the building hired their own people as well. Scotty, was the first to get back to me within a day. He asked a few basic questions and was very accommodating setting up time to check out damage. After climbing 3 flights of stairs to get to my place. I directed him to the damage in my room and then to my back door to then climb onto the roof. Waiting on my deck, I could hear him walking around and make a tisk sound every once and awhile. Then he popped his head over the edge and told me why I was having the issue, where it was coming from and the recommendation. He then proceeded to lean over my roof edge ( I was afraid for him.) and show/explained to me things that had been done improperly. He really seemed to know his stuff and I picked up a few roofing terms to add to my vocab. He didn't write anything down but advised me to email him to get a quote in writing. He was very certain of the damage and how it needed to be fixed. I emailed him that night, recalling everything that he said needed to be done. (Before he left he gave me a few tips and tricks on how to fix the internal damage on my own. Very handy.) The following day he shot back an amount and recapped his recommendation. (I personally like the emails because you can read it and you have no issue with he said/she said.) Nonetheless, we had many quotes and it took my HOA about a month to agree. Scotty worked with another owner in the building to come out in November to get the repairs done. (Which was a little hard per the temp and rain.) After he did the work he shot me an email to recap everything that he had done. I was very pleased with his companies work and helpfulness. So, that was a long story just to say. I whole heartedly recommend RED SUN ROOFING. When I move out of here and ever need repairs to my next place. He will be first on my list. Matter of fact the company number is still in my cell. Scotty knows his roofing!!! You'll be in good hands. read more

We had a leak show up after a heavy snow. Scott was able to schedule quickly and easily, came out as scheduled and kept me posted on timing the day of service (definitely a rare thing here in Chicago). He figured out the problem and explained everything to me, even took me up in our attic to show me some things. Did a quick fix which seems to have solved the problem. I would definitely call up Scotty again. Only issue is that I forgot to ask for a receipt/invoice (my bad) and when I emailed to see if I could get one after the fact, I didn't get a reply. All the same, I would not hesitate to call Scott if I had another issue - very reliable and great work. read more

I needed to get some estimates for a couple different roofing issues, was on a tight timeline and ended up calling Red Sun since they were in the area. Never expected to get such courteous and helpful info just over the phone. Scotty ended up coming to the house that day and took care of some simple repairs and went over what really needed to be done and what didn't. Nice to know there are good people out there who know their stuff and don't take advantage. read more

Scott is fantastic and seems to honestly care about doing the best possible work and making your home right, even if that extends beyond doing the specific job you hired him for. I needed some shingles redone on my home and Scott took care of that, but also identified an area of my roof that needed to be reinforced which he fabricated materials to fill, fixed an area of my siding and a few other things around the exterior of my home. all of which he did without increasing his original quote or anything extra. it just seemed like the way he does business. very passionate and personal, nice guy, would definitely use him again. read more

Scott was very detailed in his explanation of what the causes of the leaking roof might be as well as the solutions. Gave me all of the options and what they should cost and what I shouldn't be paying for. Came out even though he was extremely busy during a rough streak of storms and rain. Call Scott before you call anyone else. Professional, knowledgeable and honest. read more

I called Scott in a panic on a Friday morning (around 7am) after an overnight storm caused some dripping in our utility room. Scott promised to stop by to look at our building later that morning, after explaining all the different possibilities for cause of the leak. He indeed stopped by late morning (11am) and explained the likely causes, based on our roof type and where the leak was occurring. Scott provided a quote and promised to come by to fix the problem on Monday. !! What service! On Monday, he arrived, fixed the problem, and took photos at my request. We will be happy to use Scott's services again in the future. read more

Over the years we've used Scotty for a couple jobs and we've literally spent thousands of dollars with him. For some of the work, he gave us a written guarantee and having had some recent problems, I thought the issue would be covered. I've repeatedly tried contact him by phone and e-mail over past month and still haven't gotten a response from him. I thought having been a repeat customer, he'd have the courtesy to respond back. I guess I was wrong. read more

We had a leak in our coach house roof. Scotty came out and not only fixed it, but did a great job of explaining the problem and giving us options at different prices. He's also a really nice guy. I'd definitely use him again. Because he is the sole proprietor, you do need to be a bit flexible with scheduling, and patient about getting a callback, depending on his schedule, but he made an effort to fit us in. I'd definitely use him again. read more

I called and spoke to Scotty based on some good Yelp reviews. He was due to call me back to come to my home for estimate. I never heard from him again. That's a clear enough sign for me. read more

As a homeowner you interact with many people to help maintain your property. There are a lot of "do-ers" but not necessarily a lot of "thinkers" who really understand the big picture and can offer a thorough (i.e., most effective, not most expensive) solution. My experience working with Scott was very positive, and whatever faults he has were easily overlooked due to the fact that he was smart and did not take advantage of my lack of knowledge about roofing. Is there another roofer who may return your call faster? Sure. But no small business owner is perfect. Someone who presents well on the phone may overcharge you, send an employee to do the actual work who will not be as highly knowledgeable, etc. I did have to call Scott 2x before I heard from him sometimes, BUT in this case I was actually fine with it because I knew he (he PERSONALLY) would do good, thorough work at a fair price and be pleasant to work with. In the end, I am happy to make a couple of extra calls if that's what I get. read more

Red Sun had already done some tuckpoint work on our building prior to my contacting them. So they already had a good reputation with our condo. association. After dismantling our roof deck, my neighbors and myself realized that one of the deck screws had punctured our asphalt roof and the screw that previously corked the leak had allowed water from the spring rain to slowly penetrate our roofs integrity. Red Sun was our first choice. They came out to give a detailed estimate very promptly (same day). The representative walked onto our roof with me and explained exactly what he would do. He was also honest enough to give me advice on future roof maintenance that we planned to do ourselves. His price quote was very fair. The work was completed exactly when he stated it would be. He extended his repair area well beyond the affected area to ensure we had no contaminated areas that were not repaired. He was cordial throughout the process. I would definitely advise using this company and plan on calling them first the next time we need roof related repair work completed. read more
