Scott and his team did a great job of inspecting our building, identifying the root cause of some moisture issues, and waterproofing and sealing our bricks. Happy to report that we have not had any issues since they completed their work. And we have a warranty if the same issues come up again. It's hard to find someone who knows what they are doing and can back up their word. With Scott and team, you get just that. Could not be more pleased. read more

Honestly I wish I had a positive experience, but after over a year of working with Scott, the leaks on my roof was still there through rain and/or snow. It was a very stressful drawn out process and my tenant can no longer take it and moved out. Scott was always very responsive and came back out to reassess every time there was a leak, but I came to conclude it was all shoddy patchwork and didn't get to the root of the problem. Hired another guy who did it right once, no leak so far and thru this past winter. read more

Scott gave me a great bid on a weather related flat roof. He and his crew did a fantastic job! State Farm inspected it and told me they did a great job. I had them inspect it and check out a roof leak (under a satellite dish). Scott recommended some maintenance on the flat roof and repaired the shingle area, suggesting a gutter modification which was done. Great communication, craftmanship and price! Kindness of the whole crew! I highly recommend Scott and Red Sun Roofing!! read more

I recently came home to water damage on my ceiling due to some areas of the roof that required better sealing. I called Scott who answered the phone immediately, which is always nice, rather than getting an answering service. He spent time on the phone to gather information to assess the situation, request photos, and give me a speedy timeline for resolution. Not only did Scott come to my house the next morning but was able to identify the source of my leak promptly and seal the areas in question on the spot at a fair price. I have called Scott in the past about other roof maintenance and waterproofing questions. He has always been patient and generous with his time to hear my concerns and advise me of my options, whether over the phone, in person, or by email. Highly recommend Red Sun Roofing! read more

I called Red Sun Roofing when we noticed there was some water damage on the ceiling in our garage that needed to be fixed. Scott personally came out the very next morning to take a look at it, and was able to immediately identify the problem. He called his team of guys and had them on their way to my house within 20 minutes. His team showed up promptly, and Scott had already given them a run down of the problem and what exactly needed to be fixed. The guys got to work right away and was able to seal up the holes that Scott had determined to be the problem. Not only that, but he did guarantee his work for us for a year! I was very impressed with how quickly he was able to get out and fix the issue for us. Something that I was imagining would take weeks was able to be done in under 24 hours. Amazing customer service and Scott is a great guy to chat with as well! Very pleasant experience all around and I would highly recommend him. read more

Scott is fantastic at his job. He's the only one that has been able to seal my skylights successfully. He's also tremendously knowledgeable and helpful on all roofing needs. read more

Scott and his crew did a great job. They made sure to not just get the project done quickly and around our schedule, but also done the right way! We appreciate the great work and will definitely use Red Sun again in the future. Thanks again! read more

So, when we got the Crack House, one of the only things about it that seemed to be solid was the roof. "Hooray," we said to ourselves, "at least we don't have to worry about the roof!" As it turns out, we rejoiced a bit too soon... The previous owners put a new roof on the place 3 years ago but did not have the flashing done. Seriously. We figured this out after investigating all kinds of mysterious leaks and called Scott Siegmund at Red Sun Roofing. One of the great things about Red Sun is that they are happy to work on roofs even when the houses are really, really, really close together - a lot of roofing places won't as it's very difficult to do the work and somewhat dangerous as well. Red Sun is fully insured and expert at city roofs, so they were happy to help us out. Scott quickly identified what the problems were and let us know that our chimney was in danger of falling apart as well - we had no idea until he showed us the problem! Knowing that we were working on a budget, he suggested repairs that would extend the life of the roof another 5 years when we will need to replace it and save the chimney to boot - it was great, he didn't try to push services on us that we didn't need, but instead helped us find the perfect solution for our situation. He could not have been more friendly or helpful and he had a crew out to our house in less than a week! The chimney and flashing repairs were done very quickly and at an incredibly reasonable price. They also do rooftop gardens, which is pretty cool. 5 stars for being locally owned, honest, friendly and saving the Crack House from another near disaster! read more

When we were looking for our dream home the biggest concern for my companion was, does it have a mini dream home in the back, a.k.a., a garage? So when he laid his eyes on the large 2 car garage, with garage doors on both sides, flat roof perfect for future deck, glass block windows, a cinder block paradise, he was sold. He fell in love and wanted this garage to be his dream castle. We got the place and set up the garage to be the motorcycle emporium. As you may know the weather in Chicago can be something else. We had a brutal winter and a very wet spring. This being said our lovely garage started to let moisture in, our glass block windows started shattering, mold started sneaking in on the roof and the door to garage started to get very hard to close. Enter Scotty...who just happened to be in the area when I gave him a call for help. He was at our door in less then 10 minutes. I know we lucked out. He climbed, crawled, and inspected the garage thoroughly. His conclusion, cinder block is porous. He showed us all the damage that the moisture was doing. His solution, just do it yourself. WHO SAYS THAT? I wanted to give him a hug for his honesty. His mentality was "You don't have a lot of money, you don't want to spend a lot of money, you can make this garage awesome, you just need to water seal the cinder blocks and it will eliminate a lot of your problems". Scotty covered all the aspects of the repair work we might want to do. From eliminating the mold spots starting to appear, how to replace our broken glass block windows and were to put some support joints in the garage for the future deck. His only request was that we invite him over for a margarita once all the work was done. Not only was he very animated in his explanations, but he put everything in a down to earth manner without making the situation sound way over our heads. Job well done! I really need to buy this man a drink! read more

Scotty came out to our house to make a small repair to our roof after to terrible windstorm a couple weeks back. He stopped out to assess the repair then gave us a very reasonable estimate compared to another quote I got over the phone. He seems like a very busy guy, probably because of the reputation and work he does, so you may have to follow up with a phone call or two to set a time. But when he came out, he was thorough, detail oriented, and went above and beyond the scope of the job. After making the repair, he was walking around on our roof, looking for other quick things he could nail down or fix. He even cleaned out one of our downspouts while he was up there. He seems like he really cares about the quality of work he does, and an overall good guy to know. I'll call him back for any future needs. read more

I believe the summary of these reviews is a pretty accurate reflection of this company. We had Red Sun seal a wall on our condo. Scott initially was very responsive and seemed knowledgeable. However, there was some continued leaking after the project was complete and it took about a year (and many phone calls/emails) to get his team to come back out to tell us the issue was unrelated to his work. That could be true but we lost a year in this process. read more

3 separate attempts to contact Red Sun: First attempt, they/Scott replied (one week later), where we scheduled a separate call to schedule an onsite estimate. that day came and went, nothing from them. 2 later calls received no response. if they're that busy, good for them, but apparently, not good for us. its a shame considering they/he seems to be a quality contractor based on all of the other reviews here. read more

First off, let me say that Scotty knows his stuff. I called him up for an estimate as it was raining inside our new condo and we needed a better roof... well, yesterday. This guy comes over, takes one look at the roof, starts climbing on the edge of the building like Spiderman (no, I'm completely serious) and starts telling me about porous sections of brick and how the fascia of the roof may be effecting the rain runoff which then can lead to mold and drainage issues. Basically I'm sitting there listening to him going "...I have no freakin clue what you're saying, but YOU sure as hell do." We booked a time, he came out with his crew, rocked the installation of the roof and haven't had a single leak since. He's a bit of a character, that Scotty, but MAN does he know what he's doing. You will never meet another person so excited to tell you about roofing in your life. read more

At first Scott repaired our issue and gave diagnosis of a possible other problem...fast forward to another heavy rain and the leak was back. He did not return emails, texts or calls. So much for that warranty. I even said we would pay for him to come back out and fix another issue. Once finally getting him on the line he said he would be out in a few days...that was weeks ago. We are moving on and calling someone new. read more

Our Merry Christmas was slightly dampened when we came home to find a big brownish water stain in our living room ceiling, beneath a balcony on our second floor. I called Red Sun Roofing after seeing the reviews listed here. Scotty came out the next morning (today), and I braced myself for the worst. I mean, a brown stain is always a harbinger of something unseemly or unhygienic. Scotty thoroughly analyzed the ceiling, walls, doors and windows in the suspected problem areas. He fearlessly climbed on railings and ledges so he could assessed the whole roof and the building walls (while I silently prayed for no wind gusts and his good balance). He then patiently explained to me the issues my building was having with moisture. Turns out, he is uber-knowledgeable about more than just roofing! He pointed out weaknesses in the tuckpointing, explained the type of brick used for my building, and listed out many options for helping the problem, including a few DIY options that might take some time but would cost next to nothing. He also said it made sense to wait before going forward with any major fixes, given that it's the dead of winter and certain things need to stay above a certain temp for them to set or dry correctly. I was very impressed that 1) Scotty was well informed about other aspects of building and construction...so he could tell me what my real problem was, 2) he risked life and limb, peering over edges and walking on ledges, to make sure he was giving me a well-founded analysis of the problem, 3) he didn't insist that I needed some trumped-up "fix" that wouldn't have solved the underlying issue, 4) he suggested preventive measures, including several that wouldn't make him any $, and 5) All of this happened during the "free estimate" visit! Crazy, right? All in all, his impressive knowledge and down-to-earth honesty are second to none. When the warm weather comes and we can do something about the moisture issue our building is having, we'll definitely be giving him a call! read more

Scotty and crew are efficient, professional, knowledgeable, clean, conscientious and respectful. Very detail oriented. Communication with Scotty and his crew was easy and clear. If you are looking for a contractor who is going to pick up the phone, this is your guy! No phone or email tag required with this company. Excellent customer service. Pricing, work done and materials used were exactly as what was promised in the estimate. The estimate from Scotty was thorough and specific. An unforeseen repair was also required because I had a huge hole in the p-trap of my sink. The detail oriented crew checked on the cost of the repair with Scotty and had offered to do the repair and quoted me a price within 4 minutes of letting me know the obvious repair was needed. The crew picked up the parts needed and installed it the same day they completed a very long list of repairs to my chimneys, waterproofing, windows, basement and all-season room roof. Can't stress this enough. Attention to detail was excellent. Would recommend Scotty and crew to my mother in law without reservation. read more

My boyfriend and I woke up one Sunday morning feeling like we were part of a Chinese Water Torture interrogation as drops of water were falling from our bedroom ceiling. I immediately got on Yelp and started looking for a contractor to come assess and fix the problem. Scotty was the only contractor that answered his phone on a Sunday morning and came by that afternoon. He realized what the issue was immediately, gave us a reasonable quote that day, and came back two days later to make the repairs. I would definitely recommend giving him a call for any roofing needs, he's professional, straightforward, and efficient. Hopefully, I won't need his services again in the near future, but if I do, he'll be my first and only call. read more

I had water seeping in through the bottom of a window and thought the flashing needed repair. Scott came out and showed me exactly what needed to be done and said he'd be happy to do it but said I could easily do it myself. He didn't charge me a penny for the visit and is a super nice guy and very knowledgable but most importantly, he's HONEST which is something I really appreciate. Call this guy with confidence if you're in need of any type of roof repair. read more

Back in May, my husband and I woke up to a pool of water near our front sliding glass doors of our condo. When I started calling around to roofers for an estimate, no one would get back to me because other roofers were swamped with phones from the recent storm damage. That day began my complete and utter hate of Chicago rain for fear it would continually seep into our walls and damage our interior and exterior. Scott returned my frantic phone call and stopped by to assess the damage. On his first visit to our condo building, he thoroughly assessed the roof, walls, etc and later presented us with two estimates My husband became our lead with Scott managing the process all the way through and informing our neighbors. As a condo building, we were slow to get back to him. He was patient with our condo as we organized the funds and votes to begin the roof work. Once the roof work began, Scott sent numerous emails and phone calls detailing the progress so we could have a detailed record for our condo association records. Our building proved more time consuming than he originally thought as there was nearly a decade of unfettered damage to repair. Despite the lengthy repair process, our building's roof and exterior walls have been repaired. Scott was a pleasure to work with because we were always informed of what repairs were taking place and when. With the extensive damage on roof and walls, he had to do much more work than he originally anticipated. He never changed the estimate despite the damage. Overall, we're very pleased with Red Sun Roofing and the repairs made to our roof. I can now handle a storm without being in constant fear that we'll have a lake in the front of our condo when I walk into the living room. read more

Scott was recommended to me by my roofer. He repaired cracks in the masonry and roof and waterproofed our condo building. He was incredibly responsive and respectful, especially given that we had to have work done at the height of the pandemic. He got it done quickly and have had no problems since! I would definitely recommend him. read more

I called Scotty from Red Sun after reading the other Yelp reviews. I wanted him to take a look at the flat-roof on my house and also the roof on my garage. For the flat roof I thought it needed to be torn off and a new roof put in. Scotty brought to my notice that it definitely needed some attention but not a tear-off and that I could get good life out of the existing roof if I did some necessary maintenance. He also brought to my notice that some other problems with the roof would be solved by waterproofing the brick walls of the house from the outside with no tuck-pointing necessary. He was also honest about the condition of my garage roof - I was concerned it needed to be redone as well. Instead he said that it was in pretty good shape. There was some minor damage from a branch falling on it and that was only cosmetic. Bottom line - He's a very honest and friendly chap. I'll definitely use his services again. read more

Wow, really impressed with Scotty! In the process of buying a new home and needed a Roofing Specialist to come out and look at our new roof (note: had a deadline of a day). After reading the reviews for Scotty and Red Sun I called in asking if it would be possible to send someone out the next day.. He returned my call promptly and agreed that he or his partner can come out.. He was able to make it to the appointment (after a long trip back from MI) and gave us really wonderful feedback followed by a very detailed email explaining what needed to be done (total roof replacement). His feedback most definitely helped us in our negotiations with the seller, they agreed to replace the entire roof! Great job Scotty! read more

I have hired Scott and his team on two separate occasions for projects on different houses - I have had excellent experiences both times. In short, Scott is the ideal contractor/roofer - he's responsive, honest, does high quality work, and does not overcharge. On both occasions, Scott and his team went above and beyond to ensure not only he completed the statement of work (including repairing my roof, fixing water leakage, sealing the building) but also to address any additional issues that his team noticed. I would hire Scott again in a heartbeat. He's my go-to person for any roof related issues or to seal split-faced block. Thanks again for the great work, you saved myself and my association a lot of headache. read more

Highly recommend Scott!! Not only did he correctly diagnose our roofing/leak issues promptly, but he fixed shingles, repaired limestone cracks and sealed everything all in one day. His prices were very fair and he kept in great contact via email, updating me on the process at every turn. Not only that, but he studies the weather and won't complete roofing repair work when there's the possibility of rain before the job's completion. It's the attention to detail that makes me recommend Scott for any and all roofing repairs. read more

I have used Scotty on 2 different projects. I just moved into a house and had a small but steady leak. Scotty came out diagnosed the problem and let me know that caulking a few spots in the roof would do the trick. The leak has gone away and Scotty did not charge for the diagnosis. Other roofers could have made it a project but Scotty gave an honest answer and let me know I could handle the repair myself. read more

This review is based on roof inspection only. Scott is soooo knowledgeable in this trade! He is very busy, so I appreciate him coming out so quickly to do a roof inspection for an out of state client. The inspection was detailed with photos, so both myself and the owner were aware of the repairs needed...and issues that could occur in the next few years. He's probably one of the most honest guys in this industry. Thanks Scott!! read more

Scott talks a big game.....asked for a quote to do waterproofing work on a condo building.. He provided a quote for work to be done and said he could do the work quickly on the following Monday/Tuesday. Then, it was radio silence. The following week he indicated that he was completing a project and would call with a new date. He fails to return phone calls and does not honor his commitments. read more

Called Scotty. Nice guy but never showed up for an estimate. He won't get a second chance, either!

Took almost 4 weeks to finally get him to come and look at the problem. Took another 3 weeks for him to come out an TRY to fix it. $175 to fix a valley leak. He did not fix it. Called a real roofer ( Hanson roofing) and they fixed it for $150. Scott is a personable guy, but I am not sure he knows what he is doing. Hanson Roofing (in Evanston ) gave me an upfront estimate and said that they might not be able to fix it. If so, then their estimate of $150 would be deducted from the cost of rebuilding the valley which was $750 ($200 less than Lindholm Roofing.) read more

Based on the positive reviews on Yelp we called Red Sun Roofing. Someone was suppose to come by and give an estimate on Tuesday. They were going to call on Tuesday with an exact time. No call. No estimate. Move on to another roofing company. read more

I contacted them about a roof repair, they went out and did the quote. I asked them to do the repair they quoted without negotiating the price at all. I then followed up with them literally over a dozen times over at least a month span and could not get them to actually do the job. The worse part is if you're too busy or just don't want to do the job just say that instead of acting like you'll do it and wasting a bunch of my time. read more

Scotty said he was going to come and give an estimate and he never showed nor did we hear back from him.

I did not use Scott for an actual roof repair. However, I thought it important to write a review for the simple reason of his outstanding and prompt communication. I had a last minute job on a building that my wife and I were purchasing. After reaching out to several highly-rated roofers to get last-minute opinions and quotes before we closed on the building, Scott was the ONLY one who took the time to review what could be wrong and actually DROVE BY the building the day after I reached out to him. He gave us an honest opinion that meant we did not need any work doing. When so many contractors are hard to reach and communicate poorly, working with Scott was a refreshing change. read more

This guy is a flake. I called to set up an appointment, and he talked my ear off for 15 minutes instead. He asked me to send him an email reminding him of my address and my need, which I did, and he never responded. Based on reviews, this person seems inconsistent and not professional. read more

Scott is so awesome! He really nailed our mystery water/rain leak issue inside of our house. We have had rain coming inside of our house for months or who knows how long it has leaked behind the drywall when raining....until we got to see rain coming down before our eyes and had two other companies looked at the issue, but they were suggesting either replacing the gutters or the entire roof which has nothing to do with the leaking issue after all. Scott was very persistent about finding the problem and made a total of three separate visits to get to the bottom of the issue and got it down completely. We were impressed by his positive and optimistic demeanor dealing with our frustration about the issue and assured us that he will do his best to find the issue. He sure did!!! I have dealt with other business owners about any sort of house related issues, but have not met anyone who is wonderful to work with and very honest with the customers like Scott does. He's professionalism is truly respected and we love to spread the words about him. read more

Scottie is a great guy to know, particularly if you are having roofing problems. He and his crew are one of those rare companies who are extremely knowledgeable, pay great attention to your needs and do it at a fair price. We have an oddly constructed combination flat and peaked roof, and had had water coming in for months due to poor design and construction. Another contractor tried to fix it and ended up making the our water leaks even worse. Scottie and his crew took the time to properly investigate the leak. They showed us the problems and explained precisely what was happening and why. They isolated multiple leaks, fixed them and did so in a way which ensures we will not have more headaches down the road. Lastly, he insisted on waiting until we experienced heavy rainfalls, to ensure the problems were fully resolved. THEN he finally billed us. After months and months of leaking, we now have no water coming in and no buckets in our living room, even after a recent one-day rainfall of 7 inches. Our place is bone-dry. It's very reassuring to work with a roofer who concentrates on doing everything right for the long-run, doesn't pile on the charges and guarantees his company's work for an extended period. I will absolutely use them again. Thank you VERY much, Scottie et al! read more
