We had the absolute best experience with the catering and bartending team from The Red Schoolhouse for our wedding! From the very beginning of the booking process all the way through our wedding day, they were amazing to work with. Shawna and her staff were extremely thorough when helping us decide which packages and options would be the best fit for our wedding, and they made the entire process so easy and stress-free. With the million questions I had for Shawna throughout the entire process, she made accommodations specifically for me when I asked and I cannot thank her enough. Any extra additions, like cutting my cake (which was from a different vendor), including a special bottle of liquor for my father, and SO much more; The Red Schoolhouse made everything I needed for my big day possible without hesitation. On our wedding day, everything was handled perfectly. The staff was incredibly timely and attentive with our guests, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The food and drinks were a huge hit with everyone, and we received so many compliments from our guests! Big hit food items were the Swedish meatballs and penne primavera, my guests STILL talk about how good these were. We are so grateful for everything this team did to make our wedding day run seamlessly. They were professional, organized, accommodating, and truly went above and beyond. We couldn't recommend them enough to anyone looking for catering and bartending for their wedding or special event! Love dining at Red School house. The food is always delicious and well priced with a free salad bar for daily specials. Friendly staff, can get busy but the they're friendly quick and efficient. Our party of 4 had a reservation at 6pm. We waited at the hostess station for about 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. By acknowledging us, I mean the waitress pointed at a table and told the hostess to clean it for us. The hostess then began to come and out sort of wiping the table. 5 minutes in, we just sat ourselves down. The hostess brought us drinks. Then 30 minutes later, the waitress finally shows up to take out order. Service just continued like that. Food is eh. Other reviews called it cafeteria style. Agreed. Would love a place in the area that choose 12 things and did the really well rather than having 100 options that you pull out of a freezer or can. Skip the salad bar. read more

Family used to love this restaurant came here all the time every time we were up in NEPA. Unfortunately now we never know when it's gonna be open apparently it's always closed Sundays now. It looks like it's always closed on holidays. And a couple of times I came mid week and they were closed. In fairness, they do post early in the morning that they will not be open during the day so my bad for driving all the way there just to find out they're closed all those times it won't happen again. read more

The food was absolutely disgustin. me and my buddy ordered ribs and they came out as under cooked, and the outer crust was fully covered in charcoal. If I were you I would not come here. Not to mention the service was awful, it probably took a full half hour before the waitress even took our order of what we want to eat. Also, after we finished the meal it took ANOTHER half out to get the bill while I watched the waitress that was taking our table just keep looking at us and talk amongst her co-workers. We have been comming to this place for at list 8 years. never had a major issue with food or service .today we had a reservation at 6:30. and been waiting for food for over an hour for 4 people with just one more table ahead of us in mostly empty place . 3 out of 4 of us ordered prime rib , I ordered scallops which I always do. I got 6 and a half tiny overcooked shrunk to nothing scallops and send it back asing not to cook them to death. Was told - this is the size of scallops they have and it's $2 a scallop??? Really ?? . Waitress never communicated if I want extra- I will have to pay $$ for a bigger then a tiny portion ? had to cancel my order and went home hungry . We were visiting the area and a realtor highly suggested it. The place was cute and very bright when we walked in. We were seated immediately and our server came over to take our drink order. She came back and attempted to rest the tray of sodas on the table edge. She let go and three glasses dumped over and landed all in my purse and my friend's. My purse caught the majority of it. I stood up, grabbed my bag, and went into the ladies' room (someone handed me a rag), and proceeded to get everything out of my bag. There was a good 1/2" of water sitting in the bottom. Everything was completely soaked and all paper items were damaged. I returned to the table and no apology from anyone. Shrugged it off and ordered my food with a new waitress as our original server hid from the table. 4 of us got ribeyes 1 spaghetti and meatballs 1 Open sliced Roast Beef. The salad bar was basic but fine. It was very disheveled looking. I didn't have it and ordered a soup instead. Italian Wedding Soup. It was good, pretty sure it was not homemade but was still enjoyable. Roast Beef was deli roast beef topped with jarred Heinz Brown Gravy. Canned Brussels Sprouts. It was OK. Ribeyes were very thin, very tough, very fatty/lot of gristle. One of us didn't eat it at all. Another by the time they cut away the fat on his 16 oz ribeye was left with a hamburger-sized piece. Mashed potatoes were instant. Spaghetti and Meatballs - cafeteria quality, frozen meatballs. The new server was friendly but we finished eating at 8:00 and it took until 8:20 to get our check and then til 8:30 for her to return with the CC slips. Overall, it was cafeteria-quality food. I would not recommend it nor would I go back. The drink spilling did not affect the review, I was looking forward to a good meal but we did not get one. The response to the spill affected my review of the service. Two of us had been in the bartending/Serving industry for over 10 years each and we were shocked at how the incident was handled. We both felt we should have received at least an apology versus the waitress going, Oh it got in that lady's purse? Yes, it did. Oh. No manager came over to apologize, nothing. Where we worked, we both said any of our managers would have offered to pay for any damaged (Hello planner and checkbook!) items and probably comped a dessert or one of the meals. This place has been in business for many years. It was famous for their chicken barbeques and other good food, homemade by the owner, and it was memorable. However, the last few times we have gone there, the food was frozen. Frozen chicken breasts, frozen ribeyes, frozen calamari, watery nachos, and a sparse salad bar. Granted, the food tastes ok, for being frozen, but the place has list its self. I understand that this virus has everything and everyone messed up, but, the reputation of the place begs for fresh, not frozen or even microwaved food. We visited for the first time Saturday evening. Getting in the restaurant was a bit confusing, there are 2 entrances that can be seen from the parking lot and they're not labeled. To enter the bar area, go around to the street front entrance. To get to the dining room, go up the ramp. This place has a salad bar, which had plenty of options for toppings and dressings as well as deli-style salads. The menu is extensive, with sandwiches, salads, appetizers, dinners, and pasta options as well as a list of specials. Saturday evening specials included prime rib and a number of seafood dishes. I had the broiled haddock special and honestly it was the best piece of haddock I've had in a long time, seasoned and cooked perfectly. My husband had hamburger steak with onions and gravy. The hamburger steak was large and cooked through just how he likes it. The sautéed onions were tender but not overcooked, and the gravy appeared homemade and was flavorful. The dining room was no-frills, clean, and tables are well-spaced so as not to be crowded. I wouldn't say service was especially friendly, but it was polite, prompt, and knowledgable. We have been going to the school house for years. Unfortunately the new owners have sacrificed quality for greed. Tonight we had surf and turf. The steak was like shoe leather and they served butter that tasted like watered down butter with the lobster. The baked potato was boiled or microwaved. we will not be going back to say the least. And ....... no juke box until after 7 because of diner's in the back room. Don't they like music? or are they the only ones that count? Very disappointing after all these years read more

Been over a year since I've been here so I thought I'd give it another shot. Prices are reasonable and the waitstaff is excellent BUT, the food is so-so. The salad bar is limited and much of the time, empty choices. They used to give you bowls , now they have small flat saucers that can't hold very much. And they have the nerve to charge extra for it. Visit, with friends, this Red School House at least once a month. Dinners are fantastic, have thoroughly enjoyed the haddock, scampi , buffalo chopped steak and the ever so scrumptious, 16 oz Delmonico steak. Once in a while appetizers, huge selection, and the side dishes are tasty. One huge plus, their salad bar..loaded with numerous delicious items, We never leave hungry !! Some of my friends and I rented a house in Honesdale and the owner told us to try this restaurant. It was better than we could have ever expected! The restaurant was able to make a reservation for 7 people last minute on New Year's Eve, even though they were obviously busy when we got there. The prices were unbeatable and the food and service was perfect. I left my purse there and didn't realize until we got home which was over 2 hours away. The owner mike was wonderful and generously shipped my purse to me. If I am ever in the area again this will be the first place I go eat; very friendly hometown restaurant and bar. read more

My family and I visit The School House whenever we're in the area. It's not fancy, but it's clean and has great food. Prices are affordable as well. I had the stuffed cabbage special, which was delicious. I wish it was a regular menu dish. On other visits I've had the roasted chicken, salmon, and eggplant parmesan. All were excellent. The waitresses are friendly and improvements are consistently being made to the restaurant. My only suggestion is to pave the parking lot. read more

Came here for the first time last night and enjoyed the experience. First tip-we called to see if we needed a reservation for 2 as we left our house and was told we did. They gave us a reservation for the time we expected to get there. Beautiful drive passing farms and deer. Had a table in the main dining room. Julia is a fantastic server and she made us feel like old friends! All the servers help each other-Jasmyn was a blast and so friendly and personable! My husband loved the wings (we had the mild ones which had a slight bite). My husband had the New England Clam Chowder and thought it was very good (he is from Boston). I enjoyed the fresh salad bar. Our dinner entrées included broiled scallops (great/very tasty) and stuffed broiled flounder (stuffed with crab, shrimp and scallops). You have a choice of potato and vegetable side dishes. We left room for dessert and were very glad-cheesecake was light and fantastic, carrot cake was very good also. We drove 35 min. to have dinner here based on a recommendation and were very glad we did! We will be back, I am sure. read more

I had a good meal here. The chicken cheese steak was amazing, but the one thing that would make this place better is good nachos. I know what your about to say how would nachos make a difference about a review. Well me and my family, we love nachos and I know a lot of other people for an appetizer love to get nachos. But when I got the nachos it was covered in salsa and there was barely any cheese or chips in the nacho. What I would recommend is to lay off the salsa and bring in more cheese and more chips so it looks like a descent plate of nachos. Thanks you read more

I went here and I got the pizza, horrible food, horrible service, it was too hot and too cold at the same time, way too expensive and they had basically no food.
