My hubby and I came on a saturday evening. It was pretty empty. My hubby ordered the big kahuna with sweet potato fries. He said it was just OK and he wouldn't get it again. This is rare for hubby! I got the Mexican burger with hot green Chile sauce. It was actually really good, especially when I drenched it in chalula sauce and the red rocks garlic hot sauce. I did not like the fries however, the batter on it was too thick. My issue was our food took about an hour to get, even though the place was pretty much empty. I saw people who sat down after us receive their food before us. The waitress came and told us the system blacked out and that they lost our order and another tables order and she just found out. So she asked us for our order again. 1) she should have wrote down our order 2) she should have offered us a discount or free item to make up for the extra wait time. 1 hour for 2 burgers when there's only a few tables filled should not take an hour. After a four mile hike at Maxwell Falls my Mom and I were in desperate nourishment mode. As we were passing through Morrison we found Red Rocks Grill along the main drag and parked in the parking lot in the back alley (convenient for customers of the small strip of businesses). We quickly saw this place was a favorite of the locals, always a good sign. The menu offers classic American fare with some Tex-Mex classics mixed in as well. The usual items, burgers, salads, fried appetizers, and a few more. My Mom and I opted for the Chicken Fajitas for two. It fit our scenario perfectly. It was hot and filling and sounded yummy. The food took at least 30+ minutes to arrive and our tummies were growling so loud I was sure the noise was making the baby cry that I was hearing in the back. Finally our Fajitas arrived and boy oh boy was this a gargantuan portion, these Fajitas could easily feed three or four, not just two people. The grilled chicken, onions, and green peppers were sizzling hot and piled high. The side of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole (it was really just blended avocado), and spicy salsa was a good accompaniment to the sizzling plate of protein and veggies. We opted for flour tortillas but corn tortillas were also an option. We devoured two fajita wraps a piece and slowly nibbled on some of the remaining chicken and veggies. It was exactly what we were looking for, warm and filling and we were both equally pleased with our lunch. I ate here many times when I lived in Denver West. I moved away and revisited recently. I was pleasantly surprised. First, we ordered two 34oz Banquet Beers. They were huge and less than $4 each. She ordered Combo 1 -chili relleno, tamale, refried beans, smothered in green chili. I ordered the Monte Cristo. After tasting her dish, I did not really want mine. The gringo Mexican food is good here. However, as far as Monte Cristos go, this is a good one. Next time, I will go with the Mexican though, The servings are huge. Undecided between a 1 and 2. We are not regulars by any stretch but typically eat here a couple of times a year (we do frequent Morrison dining). Our experience on Saturday, Oct 24 was not good. Our waitress was very nice and we really have no complaints about the service per se, but we were inundated with flies at our table. We spent most of our lunch swatting flies; however, it appeared to be only our table and there were a bunch (8 -10) constantly on us, our drinks, and ultimately our food. We did mention this to the waitress and she though she acknowledged it, she did not offer any remedy (i.e. moving tables). It was especially frustrating that while we are constantly waving our arms swatting the flies, we got to watch a bus boy (mgr?) and a waitress (not ours) play cards at the bar. Our food was nearly tasteless. My wife had the chile rellanos with the pork green chile and I had the beef quesadilla...no flavor to speak of. It was so disappointing. We love the restaurants in Morrison and have made a point of supporting locally owned restaurants through COVID; unfortunately, we will not be returning here any time soon. read more

Decent beer on tap, decent food, reasonably priced, just a cool bar & grill to check out in Morrison. So, some fantastic MeetIn.org folks planned a group hike at Matthew's Winters Park. Amazingly enough, traffic was light, so we got there way too early and decided to scout out a post-hike location to beverage. We strolled into Red Rocks Grill, merely because it was closest to where we found parking. The chalk board outside read "$1.75 Molson's" and noted a couple of food specials. Nice! At the bar, we asked if they had any happy hour specials and the Molson was brought up as well as a 2-for-1 first draft. The regular prices for the beers were ~$3.50, so hell yeah on the 2-for-1! I had the Single Track and it was cold & tasty, just what I needed, a couple beers before hitting the trail, ha ha! After our hike, we headed back for more brew & grub. I had the chili rellenos and the rest of the table had monte cristos. I am not a fan of these ridiculous, fried, chimichanga things that ya'll here in CO call chili rellenos. Chili rellenos are supposed to be baked soft. But, nonetheless, they were pretty good. The beans were quite dry and not so great. But, I drowned them in the ample green chili and got them down. I heard nothing but good things around the table about the monte cristos. The bar area is cute and it certainly wasn't crowded either right after work during happy hour nor after our hike ~8pm. It says on the menu that they really don't want to split checks. But, since the restaurant was so dead, our server was totally cool about hooking us up with the split checks, thanks! This is just a cool, laid back spot. We will most def be back after another hike in the area. read more

We have been going to the Grill for over 15 years. The food is consistently good, green chili is the best. We love the Santa Fe omelette. Seasoned chicken in a flour tortilla topped with green chili, has browns and toast. They also serve bloody Mary's which we occasionally will have on a weekend. Say Hi to Anna the owner. Always a favorite when in Morrison. There's not a lot to choose from in this town, but the beer is cold and the food is solid. The green chili cheese fries are a must and can be a meal they are so big. Cheesy with chunks of pork in the chili, they are just good. Had the chicken taco salad and it was enough for four people. We thought we'd have a good breakfast before a day in the mountains. This place was a mistake. We got there shortly after they opened and was seated immediately. I had a Bloody Mary which tasted like tomato juice and black pepper (do not recommend). It took over an hour for our food. Our waitress had zero personality, but one thing she did have was a giant hicky on her neck that stared at us like it had a life of its own. My eggs Benedict was beyond disappointing. The muffin was so tough I couldn't cut through it, the ham was a cheap little piece that didn't even cover the muffin and the poached egg was terribly undercooked. How you ruin a poached egg, I'm not sure. My significant other had the country friend steak. The meat was hot and the rest of the food was stone cold. Yep, 3.5 stars is about what Red Rocks Grill should have. The food is pretty normal and the service is slightly above average, friendly and attentive. I tried the Combo #3, but traded my dad a 1/2 triangle of his Monte Cristo for the Chile Relleno because I never like them. This is your pretty standard Americanish Mexican food. The beans in the burrito were tasty and everything was engulfed with cheese. I'm not much of a cheese person, so I just moved it to the side, no problem. The guacamole tostada was strange. The guacamole was a blended, very smooth paste. I guess that freaked me out that it was store bought or frozen and thawed, so I kind of stayed away from it. The Monte Cristo is one hefty sandwich and the 1/2 triangle was about all I could eat, but if you're into that kind of sandwich, I think you'll love it. Especially with the jam. My dad's friends both ordered salads and when they say salad, this is not some frou frou healthy salad. These salads were HUGE, covered in meat and cheese for only $8.99, so it was a very good value. The decor is pretty awesome if you're okay with stuffed dead animals. They even have a jackalope named Spencer. Also, I didn't use the restroom here, but I was told that there is just a curtain that separates the stall, so if you're potty shy, maybe this isn't the place for you. read more

A great little place to stop for some food and drinks when in Morrison. I highly recommend the street tacos, burger or French dip as all are very good. The inside is decorated as you'd expect for a place like this so close to the mountains. The staff is great and always friendly. They have multiple TVs so you can watch whatever big game is on. I was pretty excited to go here, since I grew up in Morrison and I have never been to this restaurant. It also has some great reviews from friends and family! My experience was that it was a nice environment inside, but I ended up ordering the wrong meal. I am a huevos rancheros connoisseur, and it is my go to for eating out for breakfast. These were hands-down the worst huevos rancheros anywhere. However everyone else's food looked great and reported that it tasted really good! Yes, there is creepy, amateurish taxidermy all over the place. Yes, the service is inconsistent at best, and downright baffling at worst. Yes, the wait for food is sometimes painful. Yes, there's no outside dining in a town filled with it. Yes, the interior hadn't been updated since Carter was in office. However, as bananas as the lady is that runs around in pajamas, this place has decent comfort food. RRG is a bit of an opportunity wasted in a town that is screaming for an affordable restaurant with food that won't make you sick (I'm looking at you Morrison Inn). They often close early because they just can't pull in the traffic they need to justify staying open. The same family owns the restaurant across the street (which suffers from the same maladies) and the liquor store next door and apparently these folks have zero aspirations to make any of these establishments more popular or profitable. It's a bit of a confusing conundrum when you consider what some motivated owners would do for that end of the Morrison town strip. read more

This was exactly what we were looking for. From the eclectic hippie/biker/log cabin hunting lodge vibe to the Mexican food. We enjoyed everything, but especially the guacamole tostada. My 5 year old ate most of my chile relleno, but picked out the chile. We also had the bean burrito smothered in vegetarian green chile. Yum! My husband's only complaint was no chops and salsa, but the menu is not totally Southwestern so that's probably why. There was a short wait because it was Sunday brunch time, but service was efficient and the food came quickly, which is what you want when you are with kids. I was really excited to check out Red Rocks Grill as it is a cool little restaurant in an absolutely adorable stretch of Morrison, but I left feeling a bit disenchanted than I thought I would upon seeing the cool taxidermy-inspired decorations. I ordered a bowl of the green chili (if you follow my reviews you know I do this anywhere they have green chili because I have a salt consumption problem), and it was served room temperature and topped with an unnecessary amount of cheddar that dominated the shallow bowl. The chili itself was bland and didn't have a high level of spice, though I expect this when I go to non-Mexican restaurants, but the fact that it was served cold was a pretty big turn off. This could have been bad ordering on my part because the other people I was eating with, who ordered right off the breakfast menu, ended up with heaping plates that looked delicious. The service had good and bad. Our server was nice and pleasant, even when people in our party were holding up the ordering process, which I really appreciated as I know that can be incredibly frustrating. We came right from Yoga on the Rocks though, so I drank my water pretty quickly and it sat empty for the remainder of our time there. All in all I was really underwhelmed. If someone suggested coming here in the future I wouldn't shy away from it, but I wouldn't be likely to suggest it myself. I would like to come and try either lunch or dinner, as some of the photos posted showed food that looked tons better than mine. This place has very mixed reviews and I'm not sure, I thought it was great! We started with some nachos, which were nothing special but the portions were definitely not small. I got he monte cristo sandwich and oh my god. It was so good. I'm looking forward to toasting the rest of it in the oven and eating it for dinner tonight. Sprinkled lightly with powdered sugar and served with raspberry preserves. I was originally wanting to order dessert, but the sandwich was practically dessert itself. My friend got the Dino burger and I am very disappointed that I didn't get to try it. It sounded VERY strange but also delicious and looked incredible. The atmosphere was very casual and relaxed. The interior decor was very lodge-esque, taxidermy on the walls, mostly wooden furniture. The only thing I didn't like was that all the servers were wearing shorts and random t shirts, not even restaurant centric or anything (I could be wrong). Wow, where to begin? It was clear from the beginning of the meal that this place survives on traffic from Red Rocks and it seems as though they are ok with knowing that most people are one time visitors. Our burgers and sandwiches took just about 40 minutes to come out and when it did, the food was warm at best and most dishes came out missing items (fries, sauces, salsa). The item that took the longest to come out were chicken wings. Chicken wings, folks. What could be easier to prepare? Sadly this meal came after a fantastic night at Avanti in Denver, but even if it would have come after lunch at McDonalds it would still be relatively terrible.
