Fabulous spot for breakfast!! I love the homey feel and the friendly staff. I always leave this place with a smile! Pancakes are fluffy and delicious! There are some gluten free options here as well, my sister raves about the gluten free French toast! Next time, I'm definitely trying the cinnamon rolls - they look great! read more

I've been going to The Red River Inn since I was a little girl, but things have most definitely gone downhill since my last visit. I was so excited to return and share this place with my husband, but it was a huge disappointment from start to finish. We stopped in during the lunch hour, and I was surprised to see only a couple of other people there. When I was younger, it was always packed. Unfortunately, the experience made it clear why that's no longer the case. The service was cold and unfriendly, and my pop was flat. We ordered the soup and salad bar with our sandwiches, and I was shocked by the lack of options and the poor quality. The salad bowl was nearly empty and full of brown lettuce--yes, brown lettuce. I managed to find a few usable leaves, but the dressing containers were dirty, and it honestly looked like they were just refilling them with leftover dressing from other visits. The containers holding everything looked like they hadn't been washed in years. My husband was excited for their pasta salad, which they always used to have, but not this time. I was looking forward to cottage cheese, but of course, it was empty. The soup was scalding hot to the point that it was burning on the sides of the pot, and I got a huge chunk of something burnt in my bowl--totally unappetizing. In the past, they always had fresh garlic toast from Cold Spring Bakery and a variety of desserts, but there were none of those either. The sandwich itself was mediocre at best, maybe a 6/10, but nothing could save this meal. I was also never asked if I wanted a refill on my drink. The decor hasn't been updated in decades--very 90s--and they keep a Christmas tree up year-round. It's frustrating to drive by in July and see a Christmas tree in the window of what used to be such a lovely place. Our bill came to over $50 with tip, and I'm honestly just mad we wasted our money. I don't know if this place is under new ownership or what, but it's sad to see an iconic spot in Cold Spring with so much history decline so drastically. Bottom line: DO NOT waste your money here. Drive the extra five miles to Richmond and go to Jill's instead. read more

PLEASE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!!!!!!!! If I could give 0 stars I would. I phoned in a pick-up order and placed it with the owner herself. I ordered a wrap and due to the inconsistently with their products, I asked what type of lettuce she has for wraps that week. Her reply was iceberg lettuce and proceeded to ask me why. I told her my honest feedback; that the iceberg lettuce gets soggy with the heat of the chicken in the wrap and that I'd prefer the spring mix if she had it, but obviously I would get it no matter what. She goes on to tell me this ridiculous story that the local grocery store she buys the lettuce from (Teals) doesn't carry the spring mix, which I know for a fact was a lie because that is the exact grocery store I get mine from. I conclude my order, pay for the meal, and was given a 15-minute time of when my order would be ready. About 5 minutes after hanging up the phone, I get a text from a random phone number. 'The cook forgot to turn the fryers on so we will need another 15 minutes to get your order ready." First off, it was unprofessional to take my phone number from the restaurants call history and text me from who only knows personal phone number. Maybe some people would disagree, but call me from the restaurant and at the very least leave me a voicemail. Secondly, I had a suspicious feeling (given she lied already about the lettuce) this fryer not being turned on was also a lie, because this establishment opens at 7am. I placed my order at 11:15 and for me to be the first customer of the day and realizing the fryer wasn't turned on was very hard to believe. The time came to pick up my order, the place was full of customers eating.. weird! Staff and owner were very unfriendly. Got to my car and started eating my fries.. COLD.. ICE COLD! Took a bite of my wrap.. COLD.. ICE COLD! AND the lettuce was extremely soggy - the exact feedback I provided. I am willing to bet with this owner's attitude and distrust - she probably spit in my food. I tossed the entire meal and went to buy food somewhere else. This is just one of the many examples this place is going downhill. I will not be a returning customer. I am advising anyone that I know not to give this place business. I am advising you reading this.. please take your business elsewhere. There are plenty of other small local restaurants in this area that are more deserving. They treat their customers better, provide better quality food and have consistent products for the menu items, and would appreciate the business. We came on a Sunday for lunch. They were offering a brunch buffet for 9.99. While the food wasn't bad it wasn't good either. For 9.99 you got about 7 hot options (pancakes, French toast sticks, sausage, scrambled eggs and sausage gravy with biscuits) they also offered a salad line and fruit. I feel like it's kind of what you get at a hotel for the continental breakfast. My youngest ordered off the menu and that seemed like much better diner type food. Next time I'll try the menu. read more

Stopped on Fathers Day for lunch. I was hoping we could order off the menu but $14.99 brunch was the only option. Horrible! The breakfast line consisted of cold scrambled eggs, french toast sticks, a few pancakes and waffles and some kind of bread pudding. No meat was offered. The salad bar had wilted lettuce but otherwise was okay. The dinner line had ribs that had absolutely no meat on them, a handful of little dried up sausages, roasted chicken that was just okay, green beans out of a can, and your basic potatoes and gravy and a few misc other things. Meh. We stopped during a roadtrip with our toddler. The food was ok (I'm still wondering why my 21 Shrimp Basket only had 10 heavily breaded and overcooked shrimp in it). Overall it wasn't bad, just not great. The service was excellent, though. read more

Totally Disappointed. Waitresses would yell across the room to customers. We were not greeted by the 2 waitresses standing 3 feet away from us. I had to ask if we seat ourselves, which is a yes. All the tables that were unoccupied were filthy. We chose the least dirty table. Our coffee pot was brought to the table with no cups to pour the coffee in. I ordered 2 mini croissants with chicken salad, I only received 1. After half an hour we finally got our food, my husband's eggs and hash browns were room temperature. No plans to return to this restaurant. read more
