We went there strictly for the pho as we had tried some other dishes to go. We got the regular beef pho and grilled pork pho. First of all, the broth for both was incredible. Super rich flavored, well balanced, one of the best broths I've had, didn't even want to add any of the sauces or lime. The portion was huge, with plenty of meat for both types of pho. The service was very quick, both to get seated and for the food to arrive after ordering. And lastly, one thing that really stood out to me is that they had a very mild background music playing instead of the typical pop radio. Stopped by on a whim and I'm so glad we did! My bf and I were passing through and ordered the shaking beef since so many of yall were raving about it. It is a large portion and comes out sizzlin' on an iron skillet and served with a side of veggies & rice. The vegetables were super fresh and they steam the veggies perfectly. I must say it is one of the best shaking beefs I've had in FL. The meat was cooked tenderly with good cuts and the flavors were on point. The sauce of the shaking beef was so good that we ended up dumping the rice and veggies in to soak it all up. The manager/staff explained to me that they put a lot of effort into that dish and it's a complicated sauce. Where most restaurants use hoisin and oyster sauce, they use 15 different ingredients. We would have loved to try their fresh rolls but they were all out. Judging by their pictures it looks delicious! It is a smaller restaurant with slightly squished seating. Both were excellent. I drove up to the front of the reataurant and stood by the front gate. (You can't go inside) Someone came to the door right away, I told him my order amd it was in my hands in about 45 seconds! Wow! O immediately noticed how heavy my bag was, when he handed it to me. Hands down, this place has the best pho in Gainesville! I love the presentation of the pho in the hot stone pot, especially because it keeps the pho warm for longer. The broth is amazing by itself and doesn't need any added sauces. They also give a generous serving of meat and noodles. The only thing I wish they could do differently is add tripe and cartilage because those are my favorite parts of pho! The only other dish I've tried before is their red rice signature dish and I've been underwhelmed. I don't think a cup of rice and a piece of chicken is worth the price (~$11). I've been here a couple times years ago and remember liking everything I tried, which I believe were the fresh rolls and pad Thai. What brought me back to Red Rice years later is a recommendation from my Vietnamese friend (an avid pho lover) to try Red Rice's pho. I ordered the beef pho, and though it's probably the most expensive pho I've ever gotten in Gainesville (~$16 for the beef), the portion was very filling and yummy and came with a lot more beef slices than other pho spots would normally provide. It was served in a hot stone pot, too, adding a nice touch. To complete the meal, I ordered a Thai tea and the Vietnamese signature crispy rolls, which were both good and filling. The Thai tea actually comes in a large cup, which was more than I expected but a great deal regardless. Service was quick and efficient during my most recent visit! The staff is speedy with collecting orders, bringing food and checks out, and bussing and setting up tables. I also appreciate how clean the restaurant was when I went! We went here with friends and weren't quite as impressed and we expected to be. The food was just okay. I was really disappointed that the only things on the menu gluten free were some of the soups. I ordered the chicken pho and was very disappointed. The chicken and noodles were okay but the broth was pretty tasteless and they added fried onions (who does this in pho) that completely changed the taste of the soup- they put in about 1/2 cup of these! This was so strange to me. My husband ordered the pad thai and enjoyed it but he definitely prefers other restaurants in town for pad thai. I had previously given Red Rice Kitchen a valid two-star review for the lack of service and high price point of their food. The owner privately told a mutual friend about the review and requested me to remove it, simply because it looks bad on the business. The delivery was made in a timely manner, but that was the end of my satisfaction. The noodles are overcooked, the spice too light. Drunken noodles typically have a pretty strong basil flavor.. When I first heard Red Rice was opening, I was very excited to try a new Asian fusion restaurant. However, when I finally got the chance to visit, I was severely disappointed. The menu looked really good upon first glance, but when the dishes came out, the portions were way smaller than we expected. I ordered the signature royal fried rice, which I was looking forward to eating because it came with shrimp and steak. But when it came out, there were three small pieces of shrimp and an unimpressive piece of meat, while 80% of the dish was bland spinach rice and pieces of egg. I was especially upset because the dish was $14, so I expected a little more. My friends ordered other dishes like the lemongrass chicken and pineapple fried rice, and both portions were small as well. A few cucumber slices and a small pile of spring mix was placed on the dish as well for garnish, but it honestly looked like it was just thrown on there carelessly. In comparison to the prices of these dishes as well, the portions and qualities did not match up. The menu also did not clarify that the coconut sticky rice was extra; it made it seem like you could order either sticky rice or white rice without having to pay extra to go with your entree. We were only notified of the extra charge when the bill came out. (Sticky rice wasn't even worth it though, because you could barely taste the coconut flavor). In terms of environment, I understand that the venue itself has limited space, so I don't mind that the tables are a bit closer and smaller, but it was very hot in there. Even before we ordered, I was already sweating and very uncomfortable. Service was also poor as there was no clear system on which waiters took which table. We were asked for our orders multiple times by different people and we had to clarify that we were helped already. I will give them the benefit of the doubt though because they are still fairly new and it was busy. However, when we first sat down, we were promised the 15% discount that they were doing as a September deal. When they brought us the bill after, we reminded the waitress to apply the deal. She agreed, but when she came back with our cards, we were charged full price. We just let it go because it was too much of a hassle to have her re-ring us up, but as we walked out, the manager caught us to ask if we had gotten the deal. We said we hadn't, so he gave us two discount coupons for 15% off any time of the year. It was a nice gesture, but I didn't feel like the two coupons made up for the disappointing service and meal that the eight of us had experienced. Overall, I think this establishment has a lot to improve before I come back again. If these improvements are made, I think there's potential to be a great restaurant. read more

The food prices and portion sizes were decent, but to an average american one would say that they were a bit on the smaller size. It is true that they do cross things off the menu with tape as they run out throughout the day, which may be disappointing, but that shows me that they are making things fresh and have ingredients that are not easy to just grab. I also have enjoyed their fresh Vietnamese spring rolls in rice paper but they're not always available even though they're on the menu. All in all it's a good place.
